So far, I've had a positive experience receiving veterinary care for my dog at this location. We initially booked a pet visit and were able to use a coupon for a free first exam, which was a great way to get started. My dog also had an echocardiogram with the mobile cardiology provider. The doctor was attentive, thorough, and took the time to explain everything in detail. I really appreciated how she answered our questions and made sure we understood the results. The male front desk employee was also very helpful throughout the process. He assisted with booking our appointments, applying the coupon, and even helped with medication price matching from Chewy. His customer service made the experience much easier. Veterinary care can still be expensive, as it is with most veterinary offices, but I felt that my dog was well cared for and that the staff genuinely took the time to help us. I would recommend this location for veterinary care and will continue using them for my dog's needs. read more

This place should be put out of business. You kept telling me my dog had allergies. He refused to do bloodwork and a sonogram on him. No matter how many times I said there's something wrong with him. I finally had enough. I went to another vet, and within less than 24 hours they got to the root of the problem and found out my puppy had cancer! This place should be put out of business. You don't care about the pets. He's just concerned with well visits and you rush us out of the office without a care in the world. If I could give negative stars for this company I would. I called to cancel my wellness plan for my dog who passed away. There was no compassion at all. In fact it is cruel to insist on paying a measly 100$ to pay out a plan until it ends even though the dog has passed. This is just greedy. I'm appalled and heartbroken right now at the lack of compassion by this establishment. My dog was a patient of Banfield his whole 13 years of life. I recommended them to several people. He was a patient both at Banfield and West Hills for his heart issues. He was in distress and having breathing problems on a Sat and I asked if they could see him as an emergency. I knew I my heart it was his time but really just wanted someone to tell me I'm doing the right thing. They had no appointments and couldn't fit him in as an emergency (although I have gladly waited several times in the past for them to prioritize emergency cases without hesitation) I guess cardiac distress isn't a true emergency. I brought him to a lovely new emergency clinic near my home. My sweet little guy was euthanized as I assumed he would be. I had to pay $400 for them to evaluate him and tell me what I already knew. Another $600 for euthanasia and $300 for cremation. Fast forward to trying to cancel my Banfield plan. Even though they were too busy to look at him and just validate my instincts that it was my sweet boys time, I was informed that I will have to continue to pay for a plan for my deceased baby boy for the next 8 months and they can't cancel the plan mid year even for a dog who is no longer alive. I am disheartened as Dr B who saw him regularly was so lovely and caring and the procedural passiveness and outright dismissiveness I felt has compounded my grief. Every month when I get billed from Banfield I will let a few more people hear my story. How awful. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO THIS HOSPITAL! Previously all of our cats were on their wellness plan but were mostly seen at the Huntington location until they closed. In July our 2 year old cat was taken here because she had stopped eating and appeared to have a cold. At first they diagnosed it as an URI and prescribed an antibiotic. After 2 weeks her symptoms had not improved so we brought her in again and the vet said she seemed perfectly fine and was most likely feline herpes even though she exhibited none of the symptoms, she was a perfectly healthy indoor only cat not exposed to the disease. About 3 days later something started to develop inside of her eye which was extremely concerning and caused me to believe this was a secondary symptom of something much more serious going on internally. She was brought in AGAIN and this time they did an X-ray and once again they said she was ok and sent her home after having her there for hours. They said no bloodwork was necessary because she just had it done for her annual and it was normal, the vet suggested she see an ophthalmologist. Long story short we took her for a second opinion the next day at west hills and found out she had lost half her body weight which was hard for us hear and she had an abnormality felt inside her abdomen. The vet then performed a sonogram and saw her kidneys were the size of baseballs. The worst part about this is banfield logged in her weight as her normal weight unchanged after each visit causing us to believe she was ok. Not only did this prove to us basic care was not provided but several people dropped the ball on our poor girl. They lied about her weight by never weighing her and never even performed a physical exam because if they had they would of felt the mass on her kidneys. She was diagnosed with renal lymphoma at the other hospital and she passed about 6 weeks later. She even needed to be hospitalized for 3 days because of the condition she was in. Do not give these people a dime of your money. I have never in my life experienced such incompetence in a facility. Not only was this malpractice but straight neglect. I pray people see this review and understand how traumatic this was for us and they never bring their pets here. Our cat suffered more than she should have for a month and if they had done their jobs then maybe her chemo could of been more effective possibly giving her more time. Unfortunately we started too late and she was not responsive to any treatment. She deserved better, no one could have prevented her cancer but they certainly didn't help her suffering. Our animals can't speak so we need to be their advocate and thank god I followed my gut instinct something was wrong because after bringing her in 3 times in 1 month they certainly made me feel like I was crazy, and it turns out I was right all along. read more

I am not one to hop on yelp and write a review but the experience I had at the commack banfield location was an absolute disgrace these people should not be helping animals. I brought my very sick house cat who is also much older in to be checked out for not eating , using bathroom and very wobbly .. they refused to even look at him before telling me he needed an updated rabies vaccine. I have no problem giving it to him , but I'd like to find out what's wrong with him first before I start injecting him with a vaccine just incase it makes him worse: they refused me care and told me they can't help me and don't worry we won't charge you for the visit . like I said I was happy to get the vaccine after we diagnosed him and made sure he's ok, but they refused us. NEVER AGAIN, only reason I even went was bc my vet was closed on weekends . I'd recommend never bringing ur pet to this place read more

I have a French bulldog who has been coming here since she was a pup and I brought her to banfield back in March of this year for a wellness check and for a spot that we wanted biopsied. After the BX Dr. Valley? Didn't really discuss her BX. The discussion was really about her weight and to feed her smaller portions. She stated when you look down at my dog, her sides pop out and usually a frenchie should be more narrow towards their bottom...RED FLAG. But I'm not the doctor so I didn't think anything of it, my dog was examined but as a vet you would think since my dog has been coming here since she was a puppy, all examinations and wellness visits up to date that they would notice something was off. My dog got out of my backyard and someone found her and brought her to Deer Park vet hospital on deer park avenue and just having her for 5 minutes examined her and said get her checked because it looks like her organs are shifted. I bring her back to banfield for a sonogram for them to tell us "SHE HAS A HUGE MASS ON HER LIVER AND ITS CONCERNING"...She would need an xray and it'll be $500". Now it's concerning? Banfield, you need to do better. Did you not notice my dogs stomach was hard and one side was bigger than the other? Again I'm not a vet so WHAT am I paying you for? Beyond outraged and upset that the woman my sister and I spoke to yesterday seemed "concerned" but became chipper once I made an X-ray appointment so she can get paid. I made an appointment because I was panicking but I will be cancelling my appointment very soon. read more

Upon bringing in my two little dogs for check up and shots, we were not allowed the in examining room. When the doctor comes out to speak with us she is behind a plastic shield with a mask and is 10 feet into a room, so speaking with her was very difficult. She proceeds to tell me that my female has a heart murmur that on a scale of 1-6 she has a 3-4. Her tooth was broken and she told me a sonogram on her heart had to be done first before her tooth could be pulled. (all together a couple thousand for sure). She also stated my dogs needed booster shots for the ones they had that day. Never heard of that ,but ok. So I set out and went to another highly recommended vet (Sayville animal hospital) to get a second opinion. Well I was told that on a scale of 1-6 my dog was barley a 1! The tooth did not need to be pulled the antibiotics cleared up any problem. Also, there was no need for a booster shot & If the tooth does needs to be pulled in the future she doesn't need a sonogram!! Needless to say I will never go back to Banfield. read more

The Vet and Assistant were nice people yes, however I needed the Vet to clearly outline an "initial treatment plan" for my feline who had diarrhea and lethargy. My cat probably just had a basic upset digestive tract. I had to reign in the Vets rambling on about all the tests that could be done, explaining to her " lets take it one step at a time, what would you suggest as first steps ?" I didn't want to throw $500 all at once up front. The initial protocol was; 1.Fecal Test. 2.Antibiotics 3. Probiotics 4. DeWormer 50ml dose. The Assistant while trying to administer the liquid DeWormer to my cat, he did not know how to hold my cat properly so she would open her mouth (there is a proper technique, see it on youtube) to fully administer the 50ml of medication. Rather he just squirted like 5ml into her mouth when he jumped back thinking my cat was gonna bite him, and he said thats enough.. I asked him are you sure you barely gave the cat anything, he said yeah thats enough (My Cat was just trying to swallow the liquid)... Today I looked up on you tube how to administer medications to cats, and found the known professional techniques which this Vet and Assistant did NOT use during my cats exam. Go elsewhere for proper treatment and having someone teach you the proper techniques on how to administer prescribed medications to your pet. The Vet & Assistant did NOT explain one thing about how to deliver the medications to my cat, and what delivery options I could try. read more

This place needs to be shut down! It's so poorly run it's actually horrendous. I couldn't rate it even remotely decent if I tried. For starters nobody answers the phone EVER. We had a OWP that included neutering & "due to staff shortages" they pushed our appointment off so long he aged out of coverage and they wouldn't honor the plan to cover it when we showed up for the appointment (we obviously left). For 1+ year I have told them to remove my MIL's phone # as a contact for my dog & every single time they call her pertaining a dog that doesn't belong to her. This morning I tried calling while my dog was there 3 times, no answer. My husband filled out a form changing the contact phone # & they still called the wrong person. 8 hours later my dog has been waiting to be picked up all day in a crate and the pets proper owners were not notified. Tried calling EIGHT more times throughout the day with no answer, then I finally get in touch before closing and they want to try and charge a fee for late pick up when they didn't properly notify the pet owner he was ready for pick up. You would be better off leaving your dog in an abandoned trash can than at the care of this facility. Shut the whole place down because nobody there is competent read more

The price they give you is not the price they charge you, and if you can't afford the meds they want to give you they will not give you any alternative options. I brought my senior dog in for a check up and because I wanted to put him on arthritis medication because his joints are pretty bad. I asked for them to cut his nails, check his ears, and eye pressure, and was given a price. I approved. Then they came back and told me if I wanted prescription medication I would need blood work and it would be $100 more than the original price they gave me. I said that is fine. Two hours later I finally spoke with the vet, they couldn't do the eye pressure because their machine was down, but they cleaned his ears, cut his nails, and did blood. Then I went to pay and the bill was more than twice what I was told it would be!!! One of the medications was VERY expensive, $80 for a 1 month supply. But even with the medications subtracted, the price was $100 more than I approved. The invoice showed 2 different charges for blood work, meaning it was twice as much as I was told. When I told them that wasn't the price I was told they didn't care and basically said that's the price. Also, I asked for a different arthritis medication because there was no way I could afford $80 a month. They wouldn't give me anything else, even when I asked for the one my previous dog was on. They said that medication has negative long term effects. MY DOG IS 14 and I know the medication would have helped him have a more quality end of life...instead he left with only a pain killer and NOTHING for his arthritis. To add insult to injury, after I paid and she handed me the invoice and I was looking it over and she asked if there was anything else. I said not yet. She said, have a nice day and went to the back. They ALL left and went to the back to wait for me to leave. I called corporate and filed a complaint. I now have to take my dog to another vet to get him on the medication that I can afford, but now I can't afford to take him to the vet at all because Banfield ripped me off. I will never go to Bandfield again. I also want to mention that I do rescue and have literally been to dozens of veterinarian offices and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. No regard for my dogs well being, no compassion for what I could afford, no effort to make it right. read more

First off this place NEVER picks up the phone. Never ever, it's absolutely insane. Do yourself a favor and never start their plan, find a real vet. My dog recently got diagnosed with an enlarged heart and I was told I couldn't get a dental cleaning for him which was covered in the plan that I was paying. I asked if they can set a future dental cleaning to be covered since I have been paying the higher price plan literally his whole lifetime as a courtesy and they said no. Since then he's had one tooth fall out, they seem to be rotting, some are loose and his gums are hurting him as he refuses to play like he used to and seems to struggle while eating. I believe they're going to cause other health issues if not taken care of. All I'm told though is yeah his teeth are pretty bad, nothing we can do, like how is that possible. When you go into the office its about 15 minutes typically before someone acknowledges your existence and 45 minutes overall trying to check your dog in for a drop off....which if I'm gonna wait 45 minutes at both drop off and then another 45 minutes at pick up.....whats the point.....might as well stay there and do a whole normal visit. There have been times where I've driven there directly just to get a solid answer on something because I cant get through on the phone or a call back. If it wasn't because my dog has been on their plan since the beginning of time I probably would've looked for a different vet by now but this location wasn't his original location and they've just been getting worse and worse. The previous reviews about getting one price over the phone and being surprised with a different amount at the register absolutely happens. I feel like this place only out to make money and they don't care for the dogs at all. read more

I got to give these guys five stars very nice this day after is pretty good the doctors are pretty good the prices are very very very very good give me a contract for your pet everything that they really need and should have out of very very very economical low cost the big issue with having the dog is the teeth cleaning it really is just for the teeth cleaning is probably $500 or more but it's part of the Banfield service contract you're running about four hundred fifty bucks a year for the total maintenance of your pet and that includes the teeth cleaning the shots the heartworm unlimited visits candy has epilepsy and so she's very veterinarian intensive she goes to the vet all the time on my last visit to the visit with her she got her shots she got all the stuff she needed she got an exam she got a fecal exam she had everything that you needed to have done and it cost me zero out-of-pocket the veterinarians are very nice and I think boring going to a Beverly Hills exclusive big buck Dr I think this is about the best you're going to get on Long Island everybody's pretty nice the staff a really good the place is clean and they do get to you pretty close to your appointment time overall I don't really have many complaints with them I would give them 5 stars and I would definitely recommend if you have a dog going for the contract will they bill you maybe $40 a month and you dog is fully covered from toe to nose they sell most of the products you need so it's pretty much a One-Stop shopping and it's an extremely pet-friendly place my name is Bob I have two Pomeranians both are special need rescue dogs and I've had pretty good experiences over the last 5 years I don't actually remember the Veterinarians name cuz I'm bad with names but she's a nice lady and she takes very good care of my pets overall to get the thumbs up read more

I brought my 11 year old sick cat in to see the vet. Our previous vet recommended euthanasia due to my cat's medical condition. The previous vet faxed over the medical records. Dr. Maria Gonzalez did not look at the COMPLETE records. She would not give my cat the decency of euthanasia (we recently started to come to Banfield with our puppy so we brought our cat here for care. In addition euthanasia was 1/3 of the cost at Banfield). She told me to bring my 11 year old cat to a shelter so someone who could afford more diagnostics (we had already spent thousands on diagnostics and medicines) could give him a second chance. I explained i would not abandon an 11 year old, sick cat at a shelter if I could even find one to take him. He had been throwing up every single day for over a year and had lost 6 lbs in 3 months. Our previous vet determined that he was very ill. He has also become very aggressive with my children since he was in pain. Dr. Gonzalez was extremely judgmental and rude towards me. I've been taking my now 9 month old puppy to this location since the day I got her. Never were we disappointed in our services and the prices were very good especially if you do the package/ payment plan. All her shots were done on time and they always called us to ask how our pet was doing which I always appreciated. Recently we brought her in (Monday September 19th) for her spay surgery and they explained to us exactly what would be happening and explained the paperwork for us and what they would do. We came home with a sleepy little girl who's already just about ready to start her normal routine again! The office was always clean and always had very friendly assistants there. They made sure my pet felt safe each time we went in for a vaccine of something bigger like her surgery. I am very pleased with this office and will continue using them for years to come! read more

We have been coming to the Banfield for quite a few years. We have seen doctors come and go and they have all been great. We had one bad experience, but didn't let it stop us from using this facility. The doctor who misdiagnosed my kitty felt so badly that after we had put him to rest she went above and beyond the call of duty taking care of our other kitties. Currently, Drs. Juarez, Simonian and Johnson are all really wonderful as is the staff. I would list them all, but I just know I would leave someone out and I don't want to do that. Everyone at Banfield knows our kitties and do their utmost to make a trip to the vet as painless, for us and our babies, as possible. Keep up the good work!! read more

Just came home from visit. Have been using this location for seven years. Never had any issues till today. Desk and vet technicians were great. The doctor was friendly however the treatment she recommended seemed a little more than I thought warranted however was told the bill around$ 200 so I went with it. The piece I questioned was on a screen with a list of all different treatments some with numbers some with zeros next to them. Since the fee she said wasn't that high I approved the treatment. When I checked out the bill came over $300.00 so I questioned it. My son remembered the doctor saying around two hundred.When the tech in the room came out and I said to her, I thought the doctor said around $200. and she agreed than looked at the screen and said $292. I said there's a big difference from around $200 to over $300. The doctor came out saying she hates when people call her a liar. I told her I have been using Banfield for years and they quote the price. She said she never gave me a total of the cost. When I told her my son remembered her saying around 200. she said "what does he know he was on his phone." The manager asked if I signed for the treatment I told her know no. She confirmed that I was suppose to. Although she knew I was suppose to sign to authorize treatment before it was done, she could not adjust the price since the treatments had taken place already. The doctor's behavior was over the top. It makes me question whether what was done was totally necessary and how many people have had issues with her since her first comment to me was, I hate when people call me a liar., since I never used those words. It makes me wonder how much of the doctors salary is on commission. I have decided not to use them again. The cost is as much as other Vets in the area and they have many more years of experience. read more

This is my first experience with Banfield Pet Hospital and it will be my last. The Tuesday before Thanksgiving I brought my seven year old 12 lb Maltipoo in for an ear infection. She had not exhibited any symptoms but a few days before I had her groomed at the Pet Smart groomer (won't be using them again either). Her ears do get really dirty and I had asked the groomer how they had looked he said dirty but ok. A few days later she was scratching, shaking and tilting her head, the infection may have been brewing and the grooming may have made it irritated and worsened was already brewing.. I brought her into Banfield (my friends say it might be a bit cheaper then the vet we had been using, as my husband lost his job six month ago and every bit helps) The office visit was around forty dollars not bad. then they charge for everything else 26 dollars to clean her ears 50 to swab them and see if it is fungal or bacterial plus the ear cleaner and the meds. I walked out of there spending over 200 dollars. Then had to follow up a week later for an ear check; another 40. I was told to stop the antibiotics and just use the cleaner for another week. I bring her back to day now The Vet wants to do a 2nd level ear cleaning without even looking at her ears that's 40 dollars plus the 40 dollar office visit. I explained my financial situation and asked if she could do minor cleaning and take a look as she had the week prior. She said no. My pup was taken in the back supposedly looked at by the vet as well as four other vets she said were back there. I was told her ear is still to swollen to see inside and I can buy an anti inflammatory for $19.99 they also want to sell me antibiotics made else ware to put in once a week as well as oral antibiotics for her to take that I could buy from the Target pharmacy for $75.00. I am so angry. The vet was useless and unsure of herself as well as changing the directions on the anti inflammatory and not telling me so when I went to pay I wanted to know why it was less .I feel all they wanted to do was charge me for every little thing and did not really care about my animal. The only reason I gave it one star is that they didn't kill her during the exam. (Actually hit it by mistake and couldn't get it off.) DON'T USE THEM IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET. I will be be starting over with a new vet tomorrow. read more
