I arrived early and apologized for it when I came in--I would rather be early than late--but the receptionist seemed annoyed. I had previously explained that I didn't have my cat's records on hand, but that she has a history of chronic UTIs. I was told that without records, she would need a rabies vaccine, and I agreed to that without hesitation. The only documentation I was able to find between getting off work and going to the appointment was an email showing she was due for her vaccine about a month ago. I understand that this isn't official documentation, but they continued to emphasize that they needed her history. If she was going to get the shot regardless I don't understand why they had such an attitude about it. We were there for a completely unrelated emergency situation. The overall interaction came across as unfriendly and unwelcoming. In an already stressful situation, I did not feel confident or comfortable with the level of care or communication. Any business with reception knows they make or break your business. I have only seen the vet their once before. When my mom was alive she took her cat there. I don't even know why i tired because his medical advice for her cat at the time was terrible. She clearly has FHS and they had No idea!!!! I will not be returning

Hermoine had an abrasion on her back, which was getting worse, because she was licking it. Dr. Stotz was warm and welcoming. She has a great bedside manner with her patients. She communicates well with adults too and explained each step, as we went through the process. I really liked her. Hermoine got an antibiotic shot and some topical medication. The veterinary hospital is clean and full of pet decorations. They are in the process of adding more rooms. Healthcare is expensive, even for pets. But, as my mom would say," You get what you pay for." And, Hermoine was well taken care of. Thank you Dr. Stotz and the rest of the friendly staff at Kentland's Animal Hospital.

One thing that really stood out was the strong communication -- they kept me informed, answered questions clearly, and made sure I understood everything along the way. The services are definitely on the pricey side, which may be difficult for some people to manage, but the quality of the staff and their professionalism helped make the experience worthwhile. It's clear that the team cares about providing good service and supporting their clients as best as possible.

Ok Yelp... I'm frustrated…read more We rushed our 9-month-old Cavapoo into VRA Pet Hospital at 8:45 AM after waking up to him bleeding from his rectum, after already having diarrhea and vomiting the day before. As pet parents, that's terrifying. It is now 12:37 PM and we are STILL sitting here waiting for a doctor to tell us what's wrong with our baby. The only explanation we kept getting? "Other emergencies came in." I understand emergencies happen... but what exactly qualifies as urgent if a puppy is bleeding, lethargic, and clearly in pain? Our dog has been laying around miserable, not himself at all, and we've had to repeatedly get up and ask when he'll be seen. Meanwhile, hearing laughing and casual conversations at the front desk while your pet is suffering is beyond aggravating. The lack of urgency, communication, and compassion in a moment like this is unacceptable. I hate that this has been our experience because when your pet is sick, time matters. Right now, I'm just left wondering... where are the better emergency animal hospitals in the DMV?! Here's a more detailed and pointed update for Yelp that leans harder into the front-desk failure while still separating it from the doctor's care: Update: I want to be fair because the doctor deserves recognition. Once we were finally seen, she was excellent -- thorough, compassionate, and took the time to explain everything clearly. She even apologized for the lack of communication, which says a lot about her professionalism. But my issue remains with the front desk staff, and honestly, that part of this experience was unacceptable. As first-time pet owners rushing into an emergency with our 9-month-old puppy bleeding, vomiting, and clearly in pain, we walked in terrified. No one at the front explained the ER process, triage, or what to realistically expect. Instead, we were left sitting there for hours in complete uncertainty, repeatedly having to get up and ask for updates ourselves. Every time we asked, it felt brushed off with the same generic "there were other emergencies" response -- with no timeline, no compassion, no reassurance. What made it worse was the atmosphere at the front desk. While we were panicking and watching our puppy lay there weak and uncomfortable, the front desk felt more like a social gathering than an emergency hospital. There was laughing, chatting, snacking, and carrying on while families sat in distress. That lack of urgency and empathy was hard to stomach. No one expects immediate service in an ER, but basic human compassion and communication should never be optional. When people bring their pets into an emergency hospital, they are bringing family. The front desk is the first point of contact, and that first interaction sets the tone. In our case, it made an already traumatic situation feel even more isolating and frustrating. The medical team may have done their job, but the front-end experience failed us completely.

(In that respect, the doctor doesn't mind it wasn't me taking my pig to see her, very accommodating.) Regrettably, after my first female guinea pig that runs around and talks back to me died, I have little to no interest in the other girls that followed. I have one male who manages to have a cyst last summer, and Dr Hileman had to run a test. Everything came under control, and the pig is cleaned up tho a tad underweight. Tho I do have a dog that also sees her, but because this place is one that takes exotic small pets, I keep going back. The doctor is very gentle. She wonders why people keep quitting, but the truth is you either leave on your own (like I was fortunate enough to do) or you get fired for not being "perfect." You only get about 60 hours every two weeks, and there's zero room for growth--don't expect a raise or any kind of advancement. There's no direct deposit either. Your checks are mailed (sometimes late), because apparently the clinic "doesn't make enough money." Also, be prepared for constant political conversations whether you want to hear them or not. If you want to be respected and treated like a decent human being, this is not the place for you.

He performed dental surgery on my cat and there were no post-op issues. My cat was healthy and happy after the vet. The no-so-good? 1) One of the cats they let roam around had an eye infection, I was concerned the cat would spread it but the vets assistant took the cat away when a customer brought it to her attention. 2) If you don't ask enough questions, they'll surprise you with the cost of their services. This can be true of any service but I inquired about their grooming service and comprehensive wellness check. They said it would cost around $600 (because of anesthesia). When I picked him up from his appointment they charged me $1,900!! The vet performed 7 tooth extractions and did not even call to let me know. The vet said to me, "I didn't think money was an issue" Because my pet insurance reimburses me 80%. But I still had to pay up front. I was surprised each tooth cost about $50-$75 and wish they'd been more transparent. They took off $200 to make me "feel better". ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS and brush your cats coat and teeth so you don't need a vet for that. My lessons have been learned! 3) Another thing to keep in mind. The vet performed the surgery well, Koda had no post-op issues at all! However, because the vet has to stand while operating, he charges more. This is understandable given the vet seems to limp when they walk but again they didn't let me know that beforehand. I would trust them to perform an excellent surgery but ask as many questions about what to expect before you commit.
