DO NOT RECOMMEND!! I recommended this place to my mom for her dogs based on other people's recommendations. First I want to make sure everyone knows that the front desk ladies are very nice and understanding and just doing what they are told. But, the vet himself is a complete jerk. Mom noticed what looked like tape worm in both of her dogs feces. She took the samples in just to get confirmation on which type of worms they were so that we could treat for them. The worms were very clearly visible on and in the feces that were given. The lab test for both came back negative! My mom called and sent them the pictures of the feces with the worms and said there is no way! She requested a refund because they very clearly have some type of worms. Waiting for the vet to call back the next day, he called and said, I don't know why the test came back negative but your dogs do have worms. Well, Mr Rocket scientist. We already know that! What kind of worms? And why did I pay you to test my dogs so I could get a treatment plan and you tell me they have worms but they couldn't say which kind because their test didn't work. Just made a suggestion on the type. Are these people even sending the test out? Are the test faulty? And why am I paying you if you're not giving me the accurate results. The vet said, well, that's what happens sometimes. Well, that didn't help me at all. We want our money back because he diagnosed our dogs with worms based on his visual inspection of the pictures we sent to them. No confirmation on the type of worm. I call that stealing customers money. He refused to refund. Highly do not recommend this place strictly based on the arrogance of this vet and his unwillingness to make things right. We just threw away $100 for nothing. Can I give them no stars?! read more

I picked this clinic based on recommendations from the community. I wanted a smaller practice (I'd used a big practice with high turnover and scant availability in the past) on tap in case of emergencies between vaccinations. Unfortunately, AAVH did not live up to their reviews. My dog ate poison late one evening. The local emergency vet (who I called right after I discovered the dog ingested it) said I should call animal poison control, get treatment protocol before bringing dog in. Animal poison control deemed situation non urgent and advised to call my vet for the antidote in the morning. The antidote would be prophylactic based on the suspected amount dog ingested. since the antidote is a vitamin with minimal risks, Animal poison control believed the vet would see him and follow their protocol and issue the Rx vitamin. The antidote just needed to be administered within 24 hours. I arrived at AAVH upon open and provided the animal poison control number. The vets weren't in yet - totally fine as I was a walk-in. The vet tech advised she'd take my number down and then have the vet call me with instructions to get the meds. Now, I didn't care if the dog needed to be seen - hence why I brought him with me. Also want to make clear dog was not a first time patient of this clinic. Anyway, I digress. A couple hours later I called. The receptionist had not received the information that I'd been in that morning and said the situation was urgent and I needed to come in. I told her I could take the next slot but that it wasn't urgent, that they had the animal poison control case number (Vets regularly confer with this organization). She placed me on a hold and said that I needed to go to the emergency clink clinic for blood tests. I was furious. This was not part of the protocol and I told her that. "Well the head vet who's been practicing for 20 years says it is." I hung up and called another clinic. I described the situation and was immediately offered an appointment . The receptionist seemed perplexed as to why I wasn't offered one by my now former vet. I took the appointment. Out of curiosity, I called three other clinics. Two offered appointments. One could not see me because they didn't have the antidote on hand (Vitamin K) AND did not have an available appointment. I took my dog to the appointment at the other clinic. All they required was the animal poison control case number. They had already conferred with animal poison control at the time of our appointment. She did a physical exam and provided the antidote with an instruction to follow up in thirty days for a blood test to make sure the antidote had staved off coagulation problems. There was no blood test to prescribe the antidote. None. Nor was that the protocol offered by animal poison control. I've waited a few hours to post this because I was so angry this morning. And I've reflected. There is a small chance there was no vitamin K on the premise, but that's not what was implied and the denial for dog to be seen was "because dog needs blood tests" and "can't just walk in and get medication without tests." (Um I was literally on my way to be seen for an exam??). I fully believe this vet doesn't consult with animal poison control and doesn't know or care that there's standard protocols for different poisons. the vets in the area asked immediately for the animal poison control number. I had to continually offer it to AAVH. Fortunately, I was diligent enough to call around to emergency, animal poison control and other clinics so I understood all the puzzle pieces. AAVH could've cost me loads of unnecessary money by sending me to emergency. If I hadn't continued to call them today, they could've run out the 24 hour clock and cut off my chances of finding a non emergency (and somewhat more affordable) vet to take dog to. And again, my first inclination was to run him to emergency the moment it happened which is why I called them first and was directed to APC and then to wait for my vet to open. I will not return here. I don't know if what happened today was an anomaly or compilation of negligent acts but it certainly was quite ridiculous and not consistent with other clinics in the area. If AAVH doesn't treat non urgent poison cases, it should make that very clear while accepting new clients. read more

This was my first visit with this location, considering I am new to the area. I had to find a place where I could take my precious little buddies... I have an English bulldog and a pug who both suffer terribly from allergies. I brought them both in and the doctor was able to treat them and informed me of ways to help ease their struggle with all the grass and pollen that is around this area. After receiving the medications and following the vets advice both my pug and bulldog are healing beautifully and the itching has subsided. They will definitely be returning for their check ups as needed! read more

I absolutely can not say enough to praise this veterinary clinic! I had such a hard time finding a good vet in this area until I found them. They are always responsive, they go above and beyond for their patients, always very kind and accommodating, and they give excellent care at a great price. I go for routine appointments, but I also had to take my dog Ace for surgery to get a large lump removed from his chest. The staff was so kind and knew this was a very anxious day for a pet owner. They gave me regular updates, they did a pre-anesthesia work up to make sure he would be safe, and they performed the procedure impeccably well. Ace recovered so quickly with no complications. I absolutely love going to them and am so happy to have found a vet Ace and I both really like! read more

I have had several pets over the past 30 years so I have dealt with a lot of veterinarians, and although I have nothing negative to say about any of them, this veterinarian hospital stands above all of them. The way that every single employee here treats your pet, you can see the compassion and care that they have for animals. I took my puppy there for an ear issue, and they had to do 2 treatments a week apart. My baby did not like anyone touching her ear but they were able to get the treatment in and she was not scared when I took her back for the 2nd treatment. When I had taken her to another vet when she was a puppy for her shots, by time we went there the 2nd time, you could tell she was unhappy as she started whining as soon as we pulled up at the place (happened 3rd & 4th time too). They were good to her, but she did not like something about it and the only treatment she ever got there was her shots. Anne Arundel Vet has given her shots, cut her nails, spayed her, and treated her ear infection, but when we pull up to it, she cannot wait to get out of the car and wags her tail happily as she goes over to the building. That tells me that she gets a very good feeling from the staff there, that even though she is there to have different treatments done to her, she knows they care about her. I've been using this vet for 7+ years now for my dog and several cats and can't think of a single complaint. The only time I had an experience I would consider "bad" was with a doctor who I think mainly dealt with cats, seeing my dog and generally not seeming to understand the tone of voice/manners used around an unfamiliar dog, but, he has since retired (I think) so it's a moot point anyway. Every time I've called to make an appointment or to ask a question the staff is friendly and accommodating. They are patient with my dog who can get squirrelly around "strangers", especially ones poking and prodding at him. Our oldest cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes and Dr. Bean has been wonderful and extremely helpful with getting us prepared for and comfortable with this new set of challenges that come with caring for a diabetic cat. What set them apart for me was that they're not just out to drain your wallet like some places..several years ago when one of my cats needed emergency surgery they immediately knew what was wrong and didn't give us a run around or tell us we needed to have a bunch of bloodwork and tests done; they got her right into surgery, which not only saved her life but saved us a lot of money. I've tried a another vet that claims to have the best prices, but didn't really find them to be significantly less expensive, their wait time was ridiculously long, and we had a cat with an upper respiratory infection - a serious issue, for sure - but right off the bat they wanted to keep him overnight and run all kinds of tests to the tune of about $1300. We declined, but did have them give fluids, took him home and mixed Pedialyte with his food and he was fine within two days...Pedialyte is $6. I feel like we would have had a much faster, more reasonable experience had we just stuck with Anne Arundel Veterinary Hospital in that particular situation. read more

After spending $400 plus, the veterinary doctors here still cannot tell what's wrong with my dog. Therefore, I have to spend more money for their incompetence. Kudos to me, I am smart to know what could possibly be wrong with my dog without going to a veterinary school. I will never bring my dog here ever again. I need a dog smart veterinarian. read more

I just left this place with my sick kitty. I was so worried about her and the staff was so sweet and caring. It didnt cost me as much as I thought it was going to either, which was a plus, and I still can't get over how nice they were there. They weren't judgmental or pushy about tests. They were packed and I still got in and out of there in good time. A busy vet's office is a good thing. It means people like this place. I've been to two other vets in the area recently but this place made me feel at home. I immediately made an appointment for another one of my pets as I will definitely be going back! read more

We had a bad experience with this Vet as well. I had been a client of this office for over 15 years but with various Doctors as they come and go over the years. I had taken my dog in for a regular check up and he had swollen glands on his abdomen that had recently appeared. The Vet that saw him did not even give him a head to toe exam. She just looked at the swollen area and said lets get blood work. After going back again because the course of treatment was not working and about $600 later and x-rays, they said to do more blood work. Still she had not examined him from head to toe. I ended up taking him to the emergency vet in Annapolis, the vet got on floor with my very very very sick dog, started at his head and went to his tail to examine him to determine what glands were swollen and why. This vet did nothing like this at all except order blood work and x-rays and an x-ray specialists to view the results. Really!! Don't you know how to look at x-rays.....the emergency vet did and found unfortunately that my dog had other swollen glands in other places as well with a diagnosis of Lymphoma. We since have lost our beloved dog and $1,000 later I wish I would have choose the emergency vet to begin with. If you have a serious health issue with your animal, I would not recommend this vet. I would have saved $600 by going to the emergency vet and had the answers to help us deal with end of life care for my dog. It has been 6 months and my sadness is slowly subsiding but my companion of 8 years is surely missed every day. read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Shrank and the rest of the team here. After having multiple bad experiences at a different vet office I decided to switch to Anne Arundel Vet which turned out to be a great decision. Not long after switching vets my fiancé and I found out we would be relocating to Hawaii which was not an easy task by any means but the team here helped with that transition. Dr. Shrank double and triple checked all of the paperwork to make sure all requirements had been met to help ensure a direct airport release instead of having our pets stay in quarantine. We arrived in Hawaii and with just a bit of a wait we were in our new home with both of our pets and a huge sigh of relief. I highly recommend them as every one is friendly, helpful, and great turn around with appointments. When we return home I plan to continue using this vet hospital. read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!!! When my pit bull puppy got "happy tail", a very common tail injury, I took her to Anne Arundel. They simply put a bandage on her tail and gave her some antibiotics. I had to go back about a dozen times to get her tail re-bandaged. Her tail was slowly getting worse. They had no advice or suggestions. After about a month and $300 later, I went to Paradise Animal Hospital for a second opinion. They took one look at her tail and said "you need to get surgery ASAP". Anne Arundel had wrapped her bandage too tight, repeatedly, cutting off circulation to the tip of her tail and her tail began to die. PAH said there is no way that they didn't see the necrotic tissue the 3 days prior I had taken her. PAH also said she was in a great deal of pain, Anne Arundel said she was fine. Long story short, I had to get my baby's tail amputated because Anne Arundel doesn't have a clue what they are doing. Anne Arundel cost my dog her tail, but in the profession they are in, she's lucky they didn't cost her her life. Stay far away from this place!! Not only will it cost you a ton of money, which probably isn't even necessary, they will NOT look out for the well being of your animal. This place should be SHUT DOWN!!!! read more

I have to say from the ratings I was scared to go to this place, but all of the places that I call for x-rays were over the top, but this place was cheaper and I needed to see if my Boston terrier ACL was torn; one thing I have to say the place doesn't have carpet for dogs to sit on, and my dog love rugs to sit her bottom on when it's cold out, but other than that I really was ok with the place they were nice and assured me that my dog was safe in their care, my dog doesn't stay any where that is just me nervous Nilly, I am, but she was fine, staff was nice, but at the end they did quote me a price at first, but it changed at the end of service, I asked about it and they changed it to what I was quoted. I have no negatives at this point. I look on this site first before going, but it didn't help, but it did turn out for the best. Thanks guys for taking care of my dog and she is now on a eight week plan to get better without surgery. read more
