We're from San Diego and were visiting family here in Oklahoma when we had to go to Banfield Pet Hospital in Norman on February 5th 2026-Address: 660 Ed Noble Pkwy Norman, OK 73072 United States to get Xanax (alprazolam) for my dog Stori's flight home because of how severe her anxiety was on the way there. Our primary vet told me to see a local vet and specifically ask for this medication due to not being able to help across state lines. I brought all of Stori's records and explained the situation thoroughly at the appointment. We saw Dr. Elizabeth K Steiger. She seemed understanding, but still pushed trazodone and gabapentin, which is what we used on the flight there and it did nothing. I explained again why my vet told me to ask for Xanax (alprazolam) and how severe the situation was, and that this was the best option to get Stori home safely. She then said, "Oh okay, great, let me go make sure we have that in stock for you." She came back out with a bottle and said, "Here is your Xanax (alprazolam)." Without double-checking the bottle, I was so relieved that I said thank you, paid for the visit and the medication, and left. When I got to the car with Stori, I looked at the bottle and realized it was Prozac (Reconcile). Prozac (Reconcile) is a daily anxiety medication that can take weeks of daily use to see results and is not used for severe panic. This was not the medication we discussed or what I was told I was being given. I went back inside and told the receptionist there was something wrong with my prescription and that I was told this was Xanax (alprazolam) but I was given Prozac (Reconcile) instead. His demeanor completely changed. He looked at the bottle, pushed it back toward me, and said, "This is dog anxiety medication." I told him, "I understand that, but this is a daily medication that takes weeks to take effect and is not used for panic. This is not what the doctor told me she was giving me, and I need this fixed." He rudely said he would go get the vet. When he came back with her, she said, "This is dog Xanax (alprazolam)." I told her, "No, this is Prozac (Reconcile) It is not used for severe panic, it takes weeks to kick in, and it is not the medication we discussed or what I was told I was getting." She continued trying to insist that this medication was Xanax (alprazolam). She finally admitted, "Well, Xanax (alprazolam) requires a written prescription to a pharmacy." So they lied to me--gave me a completely different medication and tried to pass it off as Xanax (alprazolam) to get me out of the clinic instead of being honest. I told her, kindly but firmly, to please write the prescription. She kept trying to make excuses not to. I brought up my primary vet and all the records I had brought explaining Stori's medical history and this situation, and asked if my primary vet needed to contact them directly. She got very defensive and immediately said, "No, no, I'll write it," and then wrote the prescription. I was able to get the medication my dog needed, but I would not recommend this vet. Talk about expensive!!! It is a " sign on for a year, pay a monthly fee" deal. I decided..no. The people are nice though!

Had a puppy plan for 2 years. I was charged for extra meds every time she had to have her nails clipped cuz she was a danger to the staff haha ya my local vet did it in minutes and didn't charge the extra fee for difficult dogs. Maybe get a tech that has some balls and can handle a scared dog.... Smh never will I ever go back. Also my dog has a history of yeast infections in her ear and they would make me swab every time even if I just ran out of drops. The drops were actively working... read more

Dr. Cunningham remembered our pet after a 2 year hiatus. She stroked him the entire time she was in the room and gave gentle words of encouragement to him. Our pet was born blind and she was very cognizant and respectful of that. We visited other vets in the 2 year hiatus but were most satisfied with the doctors at the Banfield in Norman. read more

Out of the three Banfield locations I've taken my dog to, this was my absolute favorite! The staff is very friendly and they walk through every step of the treatment your dog receives before he gets it. My dog usually leaves the vet with red eyes from crying lol but not this time. I had been looking for a good vet for my new kitten. Being I had recently moved to the area, I was not familiar with many places to go. I had brought him to a different veterinarian and always spent way too much money on over priced/unnecessary things for my pet that the staff told me I needed, knowing I was a new pet parent and didn't know much. The staff was never friendly and helpful. They made me feel stupid & we're continually rude. When I adopted my second baby, I knew he needed boosters and a lot of other things. I didn't want to continue going to the last vet, so I found Banfield. VERY sweet & friendly staff. Always willing to help, and the services are very affordable. I never dread going for my cat's check ups anymore.It's much more of a family environment & I know my cats are getting the best care. read more

Banfield, thanks for taking care of my little ones! Banfield has a great pet insurance program. I pay about $30 every month and it takes care of a lot of major expenses, well worth it. What I like about them is their great service too. They call me with appointment reminders and they are sweet to my dogs. The day after the dogs visit, they have follow phone calls to make sure everything is ok. It's also convenienty located in Petsmart so I can pick up some items while I am there. read more

I am upset over the fact that I had a puppy plan that renewed to the adult plan without having a call to inform me and I was not informed verbally about it when I signed up originally last year. Even since I have not used the plan, I only get one payment back out of 2. I will not use you guys again, because communication and friendliness has never been there. My dog gets so stressed when going in here and not other vets. I just don't understand why I cannot get a full refund. I barely used the puppy plan except for needed shots and neuter. I will not come here for vet services because all it ever seemed to be was about money and not making my dog comfortable. read more

Dr. Hennessy is awesome. She has been with my little man since he was a pup, and knows exactly what to do to make him better and always provides me with comfort and understanding. There have been a few vet techs at this location I wasn't in love with but the new girls very friendly and loving. read more

If I could give them minus 5 stars I would. They basically stole money from me. My cat has 2 lumps under her belly. They were to do a biopsy to let me know if they were cancerous. When I spoke to them the next day, there were no results. She said that there was not enough tissue taken to do the biopsy and she wanted me to bring my cat back. They wanted to do surgery and remove the lumps and test them then. They did however charge me for all that was supposed to have been done, even though it wasn't. Do not trust them with your pet. They only want your money. They scammed me out of a lot of money and then thought I would be stupid enough to go back and let them scam me out of more. I checked my cat and there was no tissue taken at all. DO NOT GO TO THEM. read more

Excellent clinic. Very nice and caring from Dr's to staff. Always call and check up on dogs after visits. No matter how booked they may be. They will still fit you in if needed. Also offer health plans for pets that save huge amounts of money. read more

I was charged for a service they will not provide for my cat, and will not cancel it. Every time i call they send back and forth between the hospital and an 800 number. Completely ridiculous and very unprofessional. Do not give them card information for a wellness plan or anything. They will scam you. read more

The pet hospital in Norman is a good hospital, however the plans and the corporate office is a total rip. Pretty much all you get for the plan is a 10% discount and unlimited vet visits. They prescribed me a $900 dollar...yes $900 prescription, and the were "too busy" to see my sick dog when I did a walk in. So the "unlimited vet visits" are not truly unlimited. The staff is nice and know you when you walk in, but they are just out to rip off pet parents and make money. I would advise you to go somewhere else. read more

I am extremely disappointed. This location used to have such great staff. Today, I my cat got a claw sheath stuck in his eyelid (so minor emergency). At least five medical staff present plus reception and there was zero empathy and no sense of urgency to even evaluate the cat briefly so I could take him to an emergency vet if needed. It's Labor Day and everyone is closed, so options were limited. After trying to check in and being told for the fourth or fifth time I would need to wait, admittedly losing my cool, sitting and crying for 30 minutes, the vet told me I would have to pay a drop off fee in addition to the regular exam and cost of care because she wouldn't be seeing me in a waiting room. Then, she said I had to check him in before she would see him (again, waiting there 30 minutes after having tried to check in once). I've had really great vets at Banfield in the past, but this experience was horrible. They didn't care about my cat at all. I ended up taking the claw out myself (he wasn't even bleeding) after sending a pic to a friend who is a vet. She was able to advise after seeing a photo; Dr. G at Banfield couldn't be bothered to figure that out and take the 5 minutes to fix the problem. I have no problem paying a professional what they are due, but to tack on an additional $20 because I didn't have an appointment is ridiculous. read more
