My bigger boy got lymphoma and Dr Bohn explained everything about my options he answered all of my calls during the last month of his illness. Unsafe, expensive, terrible customer service. I really don't think this place cares about our animals at all. I would never trust these people with my animals health. At least there was ONE receptionist who was nice enough to get my dog back for me. Nothing about this place is settling.. I watched many altercations with the receptionists there when I was checking in for my appointment in the early morning. They are just very rude for no reason.. they want owners to diagnose the issue when that's why we are there? They also just talk down to everyone. However, my situation was taking my puppy there to an appointment and they must be just WAY understaffed and disorganized, but they told me it would be approximately 4 hrs.. it took 8+ hrs with my puppy!!! when I called to see what was going on they fwded my call multiple times, then picked up and put me on hold forever, then gave me attitude about calling and said my puppy was 10th in line.. how is my puppy 10th in line when I was early for my appointment and all you're doing is an ear check? I had to just show up and say I want my dog back forget about it. And they hadn't even started his appointment! 8 hrs later.. additionally.. when I took him outside, he had so much pee. He's only 8 weeks and they need to pee at least every 3-4 hrs. I'll never come here again. Really sad they don't care about animals or their comfort. I've been taking my dog, Gunther to Banfield for almost 5 years now (between 3 states). I love that they're conveniently located in PetSmart and I'm able to get care for Gunther at any of their locations (more than 1,000 across the nation). If I were out of town and needed to take Gunther in for something, I could take him to the nearest location and my home location would send over his records in no time at all. So far, every location that we've been to, everyone (from reception to assistants to Vets) has been really nice, professional and efficient. I first discovered Banfield's awesome service while moving around with my husband to different areas of America for work. I compared their Optimum Wellness packages to local Vet services and found them to be very competitive with pricing and what was offered. For yearly dental cleaning at a local Vet, I was looking at $700. Under the "Special Care" wellness plan offered by Banfield, dental cleanings were covered, among many other things: Comprehensive Physical Exam(2x/year) Vaccinations Diagnostic Testing Fecal Exams (2x) Deworming (2x) Dental Cleaning Urine Testing (2x/year) Preventive X-rays (3 views) Eye Pressure Test (2x/year) Electrocardiograms (2x/year) Unlimited Office Visits I couldn't believe this package. I mean, vaccinations are expensive too and there was no way I was to let Gunther go without them. If I went local, I'd pay $700 just for cleaning and also pay a lot more for vaccinations and other treatments. I optimistically signed up for the highest care plan-"Special Care" (they have other wellness plans for dogs that don't include as many services. Also available are plans for puppies, cats, and kittens too). You can easily customize your plan and add other important services (ie. spay, neuter). I added heartworm preventative and flea meds to my package and ended up paying $66/month for the whole package. My flea meds are mailed to me accordingly and I go in every 6 months for heartworm meds. I'm happy to say that it was the best move I made for Gunther. Banfield has been on top of his health and I love that I don't even have to think about what he's due for because they notify me by phone and email (through my online account) when he's due for something. Gunther is always happy when he goes to his appointments because everyone is always nice to him. Dr. Salgo is his Vet and always takes the time to go over his health with me. Whatever question I have, she is always ready to answer. On a couple of alarming visits when Gunther was very ill, she was able to take care of Gunther. At my latest appt. I arrived with Gunther and had my two toddlers with me. I'm pregnant and had to go to the bathroom badly upon drop off. I knew it would be too hectic to have brought my dog to the restroom so I decided to ask a favor from the receptionist to watch over Gunther while I used the restroom. The receptionist was so kind and willing to help out. She even took initiative to weigh Gunther herself and check him in. When I got back from the restroom, Gunther was already in the back being worked on. I was so happy for her to have made life much easier for me. Customer service doesn't get any better than that. Like all of my other visits at Banfield, I'm highly satisfied with my service, care and attention to detail. We have been taking our two pups (Rey and Princess) to this office for about 6 months. Unfortunately we had to put one of our pups down a few weeks ago, the staff was really nice and gave us all the time we needed with our pup before and after. The Sparks office is 5 minutes away from where we live but we are always willing to make the longer drive in order for our pup to be seen by Dr. Bohn. Dr. Bohn is awesome. I brought my dog here and was charged a RIDICULOUS amount of money after gaslighting me into signing something without understanding what it was. They charged me insane amounts for a "wellness check" that I didn't even ask for and only brought him in for his ear. I strongly recommend AGAINST this company in Reno. We signed up for their program because we were led to believe it would save us money over time. We were paying $58/mo. to cover our dog. I had her in for some shots and a routine checkup. They called me after I dropped her off and said that they recommended some sort of additional expensive procedure. I told them we'd pass because it was too expensive and I believed she was just fine without. GET THIS ... They then called my wife, didn't bother telling her I'd already declined, repitched the ridiculously expensive procedure. My wife, of course, approved. They performed the procedure. When I arrived later that day to pick her up, they hit me with an enormous bill ... saying my wife had approved it! I told them to CANCEL our subscription because I wasn't seeing the value as being equal to or greater than the price we were paying. They refused to cancel and, since they had our VISA card info, they have continued billing us for another six months. Today I received another $174 bill for absolutely NOTHING. Our dog hasn't even been there for six months. Because they hit my VISA card, I'm unable to recover the money. Beware of this place! Huge ripoff! read more

I make an appointment for my puppy one month ago , I forgot when the appointment was, so I called and whoever answered the phone just said I can not see anything on my system but when your appointment get closer someone will give you a call , so I have to come to the store and get food for my dog, so I decided to go and ask again , the girl who was a front give me an actitud and clearly said your appointment is by the end of the month 5:30 I'm guessing the 31 because is the last day of the month, so any ways we show up stand up right where the cámara is , no body came out, we were seating and wait for like 15 minutes , so I decided to called and they answered right away , I told her we want to check in for our appointment, she said that our appointment was yesterday, and I say but no one call me to confirm or remind me , I have no emails from bandfield , she assured that she call me several times, and the call when straight to voicemail and that the voicemail was full. Worse vet ever. I took my dog there for a check up, that went fine. Then I take him back a few weeks later for a chest x-ray to make sure it's okay to put him alseep for a teeth cleaning. They made we wait all day, called to tell me he has a heart murmur. Then I go to pick him up, the vet comes out with his phone showing us pictures of his lungs supposedly. They were filled with fluids, cancers, ect. We had to pay $100 for the x-rays to be sent to a radiologist. Then we waited three weeks for news! When they said it would take a few days and we found out he's perfectly fine. If you like being convinced to spend money and worried sick about your furry friend then this is the place for you. I don't trust them and will wait for the wellness plan to end. Biggest mistake ever. read more

We have three dogs and have been coming here for a while! My last visit was great. Dr. bell is who we see and she always provides options and gives great detail of what is going on whether it is a general visit or possible injury or sickness visit. She's so gentle with our anxious dog which helps him feel more comfortable. Thanks for all you do! Sometimes it can be difficult to get an appointment on the phone but they are very busy. Very few things have gone well at any Banfield I've been to. This is my first cat which I inherited from a family member with the wellness plan. They couldn't separate our accounts so I have gone through my family member's account for the entire year and they said it's impossible to separate, so I have had to use their phone number, email, Venmo monthly payments, etc. I am sure I am not the only person who has asked to separate accounts so I believe they should make this an option because it's been quite annoying. The day before my cat's spay appointment, I was called and told the doctor wouldn't be in office and the soonest appointment was over a month later, which is approximately when she would start heat cycles. Like, you're going to cancel on ME then not accommodate me with a sooner appointment? I called every Banfield within a 2 hour drive and got an appointment for 3 weeks out which I had to take off work for. So unprofessional if you ask me. Plus even on the monthly $55 package, still had to pay over $100 out of pocket. Ridiculous. Doesn't even end here. At her one year old mark, they encouraged me to schedule the exit wellness exam for the package I was on, and 2 weeks later I show up the the appointment. The line for check in is very long and one receptionist is checking in a dog who was brought in on the wrong day?? When there is a very long line for people who show up on the correct day... alright. My appointment was at 8:15am and I check in about then for a drop off appointment. I waited until 9:15am and I still wasn't called. I see the posters saying they are understaffed and I 100% understand. But when everyone has gone that was in line with me, people that have checked in much later have gone back, I am about to lose it because my time is being disrespected and my cat is obviously not happy being in the carrier longer than necessary. I ask someone if I was even checked in and they told me they thought she was already back there waiting. Nope, right here! I get called back next and they offer to do a "in-n-out" appointment where I could wait a little longer and get her back within 20 minutes. I said yes, I'm so over this place. I am told there would be no cost for the exam, fecal sample, and 2 vaccines. Cool, let's get this over with. Dr. Bell comes out (the only kind and professional individual I worked with this entire trip) and reports good things. Says I am ready to check out. I am led to another girl who says I am not ready to check out as they need to finish documentation and need to wait 5 more minutes. A third lady says that they can check me out and leads me to a fourth lady, who says the visit is $15. So.. nobody knows how to communicate here, am I ready to check out or not? Is this covered by my wellness plan or not??? Then, they say they have to schedule another appointment for the vaccines, since they didn't have time with the in-n-our style appointment. Nobody told me that! I will get the vaccines elsewhere, as I will never set foot there again. Now, my cat's eye is swollen, cloudy, she is squinting and probably in pain and I suspect she got something from this stupid place. She is an indoor cat and has had no problems previously with her eye. Avoid this place at all costs. It is worth a more expensive bill for people that can communicate and actually care about their patients and their families. read more

Let me start by saying, they get one star from me just because Dr. Bell is the best human and vet we have had. If I'm just giving stars based off of customer service, and buisness practices, I wish I could give zero stars....or even negative stars. Now bare with me because this is a doozy and its going to be long. We have been with the vet for over 6 years. The only complaint we ever had was that the front staff was often rude, and the process of getting medication filled was almost impossible. We would wait 30-45 minutes for one prescription, sometimes over an hour, even after calling it in the night before. And if your specific vet wasn't working the day you needed the medication, your S.O.L and have to wait. Not to mention the ridiculous prices for the medication. My dog has severe epilepsy and is on two different medications. We finally moved him over to Walmart. Clearly they didn't like that because now there are "issues" with patients filling their meds there and had we just stayed with them we wouldn't have this issues. Except we would because apparently our doctor isn't there until Monday. They also said that we couldn't have another doctor refill it because he hasn't been seen for a year and a half....HE WAS THERE IN NOVEMBER!! Here's the kicker....that doctor that saw him in November doesn't work there anymore and was not authorized to give him the all clear. Excuse me?? You hired a doctor with no authorization?? Someone make it make sense! Please? After explaining numerous times that our baby will in fact have a seizure and possibly die at 6 YEARS OLD, we were told Sorry our hands are tied until Monday at the earliest. So if your made it this far...please pray for our baby. We will be seeing a new vet in a new office Monday and will NEVER return to this company. read more

When we got our puppy about 3 weeks ago, we purchased the 20 dollar puppy package from petsmart that included a free exam at a banfield pet hospital. Last week our puppy started feeling a little off and threw up, so we thought we might as well take him and use the free exam. We went into this banfield and unfortunately they told us he had parvo (often deadly for puppies) - we were very scared and decided to spend the almost four hundred dollars to keep him in the hospital for the day. This is A LOT of money for us.. We picked him up at the end of the day and they said that if we wanted to keep him there is would be 200 a day at least- which we can't afford. They said home care was possible (I did a lot of research online and asked vet friends to confirm) and so we said we were going to do that. They sent us home with one package of medicine to mix into his food, and we spent another $40 on special food that they recommended, and we said we would bring him in the next day if things were looking worse. Like I said, my friend is a vet so I called her and talked to her and she told me all of the things that I could do for my pup at home that would be just as good as what banfield was doing for him. Most people can not afford the hundreds of dollar a day vet bill for their pups, and plenty cure them themselves at home. So; as he was starting to do better - we didn't take him in. We called to cancel his appointment and they offered to work on the price with us - but their definition of working on it must have been much different than ours because we were first quoted 250, and then the girl on the phone came back with 350. We said no thank you, he is doing better, and I have a vet friend who is helping us. I also work from home so I'm able to be with him at all times. I could give him complete attention rather than him being alone in a cage and just being brought his medicine when it was time. We said if his health declined, we would bring him to an emergency hospital. The next thing we know, animal control is at our door threatening to take our puppy. Let me tell you, I understand that there are plenty of people who will neglect their animals the proper care and those animals must be protected at all costs. But Banfield was way out of line. I honestly feel like because they didn't personally really like US, they called animal control. Because we wouldn't pay THEIR price, they decided we were unfit dog parents. I love my dog. I would do anything for him. But we are a low income family. And we don't appreciate or support a medical or veterinary system that rapes and takes advantage of their customers thinking that they have no other option. My boyfriend is a disabled veteran and he has already had his struggles with this. So - Banfield called animal control. Because we wouldn't take the pup to THEIR overpriced hospital. We ended up taking our pup to one of the only open hospitals on easter, Sierra Veterinary Emergency services. They really did work with us, and for 246 dollars they did an exam and sent us home with fluids to give the pup through his neck, and two different other medications (metronidazole, cerenia) as well as some food. He is doing much much better now, but we will never go back to Banfield and we will not be recommending that anyone does. Support a local veterinary office that isn't a chain - I am sure your experience will be much more positive and warm. read more

I could tell with how they handled my two kittens that they have had plenty of experience in what they do- something my previous vet lacked plenty. I feel very sad to have to write this review. I contacted the owner via e mail where I was told I would hear from them but it did not happen. I brought my 16 year old cat to Banfield with a runny nose. I assumed he had a respiratory infection. My husband lost his job and I am on disability. They offer a free assessment. I asked for antibiotics. The tech said she would call us. About 20 minutes later she calls me and says my 16 year old cat needs his teeth cleaned, very expensive, needs thyroid exploratory surgery for a nodule, has a heart murmur. I say I do not have money for anything but antibiotics. So she then says well he is in lots of pain so must be EUTHANIZED. I say No Way are you killing our cat. I hand the phone to my husband who says the same thing. She is yelling you are cruel. We hurry back there. She ttells me the cat needs to be killed and that she is calling animal control on me right now. I say go ahead I am calling the police. I kept DEMANDING they give me my cat back. It was not until my large husband came in that they finally gave our little boy back. The doc came out and said the tech would be talked to...that she cares about animals. I said to him so I can't afford to let you CLEAN my cats teeth so now you want to put him down? The girl was having what amounted to a temper tantrum. Period. The doc actually sold me antibiotics and kitty tylenol for around 100 bucks but not before he put the Hard Sell on me that I should absolutely spend thousands of dollars on my 16 year old cat. A cat that in my opinion is too old for any anesthesia. I am still dumbfounded by this horrible treatment. My cat is taking his medicine and feels just fine now. read more

I got a new puppy. she was 3 months old and i got on contact at banfield and they reminded me of every appointment she needed until i fulfilled my contract. they did not tell me she needed her last 3 shots at the end of november 2022. it was now december 2,2022 and now they told me there was a qliche & i wasn't reminded and now they r charging me $168 for the shots after i paid them $50 a month for a year. so no reminder and would not say it was their fault. so horrible i want to give them crooked stars so i gave them 1 star. I called the corporate office about a half hour ago and Jessica said there is nothing they can do but renew my contract or talk to a vet. which i already did. and i was angry bc the vet was not going to do the right thing and told me if i'm going to call her ridiculous then she is not taking my dog for shots. by the way this is northwest reno location. they just called and my dog is ready to pick up so i'm going to go pay the $168 for the shots now!!! read more

It didn't leave a good feeling about trusting them to treat my dog. They also over promised on obtaining test results in a timely manner. I have been on hold for over 10 minutes.... and I am placed on hold every time I try to call. I just want to get my cat enrolled in the special care plan like I was recommended to do. Your corporate office told us that they couldn't enroll over the phone because she is having sneezing symptoms... even though shes been seen twice now! Instead, I get to cough up yet another $50 for an exam fee PLUS enrollment fees. I guess that's the penalty for needing some time to think about enrolling... if most other vets weren't extremely over booked, I'd be going elsewhere. Then yet again, that's what we get for dealing with a corporation instead of a locally owned practice... ugh read more

They scheduled my pets for a "drop off" appointment but neglected to tell me that that meant it would be several hours before my pets were even seen. As a result I waited for FOUR HOURS, having checked in twice about whether they had seen my pets. Finally, the receptionist, (who was very nice) told me this details of what the definition of "drop off" meant which should have been communicated from beginning. (Had I known I had to wait that long I would never have made the appointment. I expressed my frustration, and waited for a reply and got silence. I explained to the vet as such and got silence... there were no apologies from anyone despite my making them aware of how I felt about my experience, and she simply said that I could "leave." Bad customer service, terrible communication, a four hour wait.... with nothing to show for it but fours hours of wasted time not to mention travel time to even get there. AND to mention my pets were STRESSED by the time I got them back. I could tell they hadn't been given water or bathroom breaks that entire 4 hours either because they were both incredibly thirty's and had to use the bathroom immediately after. Not ok. I would advise against this place 100% until they create a better system for cycling through and caring better for, both people and their pets. Really really disappointed. read more

Worst vet experience in Reno. I had to go to this vet because my normal vet is closed on the weekends, next time I am either going to wait till the weekend is over or pay the major bucks and go to the emergency vet. My dog had skin irrigation with a possibility of having an infection, all I needed was a checkup and some antibiotics, but instead all the vet and the vet tech did was try to sell me their useless vet plan, which is a major expense for not a lot of service. In addition to selling me the plan I waited 1.5 hours for a office visit that should have taken only a few minutes. I only actually met with the vet for less than 5 minites of my total time spent at the office, I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

We have only had great experiences. The staff is kind and empathetic and knowledgeable. Sometimes it is hard to get appointments right away, but they are one of the only places still taking new dogs and cats so I am sure they fill up quickly for that reason read more
