Dr. Plateman is one of two exotic animal veterinarians here located at kings Row Pet Hospital. In truth there are not that many exotic pet vets in our area. I am thankful to have them. She was so knowledgeable about my specific tortoise. Very warm and talked me through the whole exam with ease. She scanned his chip and put it in their system for me. Our dogs are our fur babies, always giving unconditional love. We share our lives for such a short period that it's up to us to provide them with the best quality of life they deserve. The right vet is a cornerstone to that care. We've been going to Kings Row for years for that very reason. The team there is always welcoming, caring and professional. We've most recently have seen Dr. Champagne and she is top notch. Very thorough and personable, she truly cares about the well-being of our pups and treats the like they're her own. The staff reflects that same ethic and positive attitude, always feel like we're part of the family. On the business side, the place is clean and making an appointment is always easy, whether a checkup or vaccination update. Phones have always been answered promptly. This practice has lost their minds. $800 to spay a kitten, plus $100 for preop blood work? $900 is not close to the $500 I was quoted prior. They then treated me like I wasn't good enough for their "gold standard pet care" and offered to send all my kittens records elsewhere if I couldn't afford it. They tried to tell me it was higher because the laser therapy but it was only $20. lol. You may be able to bait and switch other people but it won't fly with me "Gold standard pet care" wouldn't cancel appointments same day and not be able to fit you in with a different provider. They are too "busy" to accommodate to keep a kitten on their vaccine schedule, that doesn't sound like gold standard either. read more

I had to move vets. I made a new patient appointment and brought my dog in. He's had 3 anal gland surgeries.. Dr. Lopez made my dog feel at ease, which is he's very anxious dog. She gave me all sorts of good ideas to try with him when being GlandX. Plus medicine for his butt. I had never heard of that before from my other vet! I bought some and we're starting him on that so hopefully that will help with the anal gland surgeries. I will be taking him back in a month to see Dr. Lopez. They are kind of expensive. Everyone was very nice and friendly from the front desk to Dr.Lopez. Glad I made the switch. read more

I love taking my kitty to Kings Row Pet Hospital. My cat came across the country with me from Virginia. I love her dearly and finding good care is so important to me. The folks at Kings Row have always been so kind and thoughtful. Today I had to take her in for her annual physical and rabies shot. My girl is extremely skittish. The vet tech, the vet, and the waiting room staff were all excellent! They were very kind and professional and didn't do anything that would've made me or my cat feel uncomfortable (well... minus my kitty receiving a shot ). I'm very happy with our visit and Kings Row is the only vet I'll see in the Reno area. I'm grateful for them and the sweetness they conduct themselves with! read more

My dog had a high fever and was shaking his head a lot last Friday, i called to ask if it was necessary to take him in and they gave me at home care instructions, along with an appointment on Monday. When his appointment came, they saw us outside( because of the outbreak ) then brought him in alone. He's really anxious when it comes to seeing Dr. Champagne but she does an amazing job making him feel better. They sedated him to give him a few shots he needed and to do a better job while while he was there. Turns out he had an ear infection. Dr. Champagne was really good at explaining everything, and even has flexible drop off and appointment hours! read more

This office has taken wonderful care of both of my cats. I have a five month old kitten who needed her final set of shots as well as FELV testing and worm testing and they were able to do all of this for me and the cost was reasonable. They also were able to vaccinate for rabies. I also have a 12 year old cat who had impacted glands and they were able to get him looked at and treated even though I did not have an appointment. While in their care I felt he was safe and never worried about him while he was there. They were also able to make sure he was up to date on his vaccinations, they checked his teeth and did a thorough exam. I have never waited more than a few minutes in their office to be seen by a vet technician and they treat my fur babies great! read more

Kings Row Pet Hospital has been so wonderful to me and my pup throughout the COVID pandemic. I got a dog last summer and was navigating my way through vaccines, physicals and the like and everyone at Kings Row Pet Hospital has been super helpful and on top of appointments. They are quick to schedule you and pair you with one of their many awesome vets. They can also schedule you for day-of appointments if you just need to get a quick shot and don't need a full appointment. Due to COVID, they are just having pet parents wait outside in their cars and their staff members will come outside and grab your pet and bring them back with all the forms/payment methods etc. It's super quick and easy and I'm so glad I found them for my little guy :) read more

We had to initially bring in our newly acquired puppy on our second day of ownership due to diarrhea and vomiting (on a Wednesday morning). After testing it was determined that he probably had Parvo and they tested for parasite load. The vet we saw sent us home with sub cutaneous fluids and anti nausea meds. She told us she was off Thursday and Friday but had briefed one of the other vets that would be there those two days about the case. At 4:45 pm that afternoon I called back to get the results of the parasite test. I was put on hold for 18 minutes and when the front desk worker picked back up at 5:03 pm she told me they had results but were now closed so I would have to wait till the next day to get the results. Come Friday morning he was in a world of hurt and needed IV fluids at a minimum. We raced to Kings Row as they opened and explained it was an emergency and that he needed fluids and care to stabilize him. The front desk girl went to the back to speak with the vet in question who told her to tell us to go somewhere else, as she was "too busy with appointments". I then pointed to the sign on the front desk that explained that emergencies take priority over appointments and asked was this not true. The response was "not today, we are too busy". The vet in question had come up to the front desk to get some paperwork from the printer and would not even look at me, never mind speak to me. At that point we rushed our puppy to Animal Emergency where they kept him most of the day, gave him antibiotics and fluids to stabilize him and gave him great care. The complete lack of care at Kings Row verges on criminal and is most certainly dereliction of duty to treat an established patient. I had hoped to use Kings Row after Valley Vet closed last year and we found one of the vets had moved to Kings Row from there. After this complete disaster and zero care when we needed it, I feel that Kings Row is the worst vet we have ever dealt with. I would only suggest them if you needed the nails of your pet clipped, as they won't provide any medical help when you really need it. read more

My boyfriend had a rabbit when we started dating, and I quickly fell in love with having a house rabbit to love and spoil! Many people may not realize that a pet bunny should to go to a vet just like a dog or cat. With that being said... it is somewhat difficult to find a veterinarian who has worked with many rabbits. Dr. Cassie Ho is the resident bunny doctor at Kings Row Pet Hospital. Dr. Cassie has helped us with 2 different bunnies. The first was Buster, and he was an older rabbit that started to have some health concerns, so we started going in every 6 months for checkups and medications. When an emergency arose, she was more than attentive and empathetic with us. She maintained contact to follow up with a diagnosis after Buster passed. Based on her outstanding care with Buster, we decided to have our new baby bunny, Hamilton, see Dr. Cassie as well. If you have pet rabbits (or are considering getting one), Dr. Cassie is knowledgeable, and she has a true passion for bunnies. I am late with this review but I haven't been on Yelp long and I'm catching up. We had been longtime patients at Kings Row Pet Hospital for many years back when Dr. Dose and his wife first owned it. And then through Dr. Ditsworth. We loved them for many years. It was discouraging, because we would hear from people repeatedly how Kings Row was one of the most expensive vets in town. They are notorious for nickel and diming you to death. And every time we came in, we saw an entirely different vet. No one was consistent, or they would leave for another practice. What was going on? But my complaint is specifically with Dr. Champagne. That woman should have her veterinary license revoked. I have never been treated so shabbily by a vet in my entire life. We went in to go over my dogs allergies. She starts in with these expensive tests, expensive treatments, on and on and on with this long list of stuff that would cost a fortune. When I tried to explain to her that I couldn't afford what she was asking, I could see it in her face. She immediately changed. After that, we were scum to her. When it came time to examine my boy, she made my son and I hold him. Okay, until things weren't going the way she wanted them to and she started yelling at us. Um, we're not vets, nor are we vet technicians. We didn't know what we were doing, but we did the best that we could. The more she screamed, the worse it got, by then my dog was scared to death, and was fighting us. We were down on the ground, trying to hold him, while she screaming, by then it was clear that we need to put an end to this circus. My son stood up, and said, "ENOUGH!" We took our dog, and left. That should've been the last time we went, but we didn't have another vet, so we went back and saw someone else. I can't remember her name. She was nice, but I could tell that Dr. Champagne was mad enough at us that the staff treated us very coldly. Like we were a problem. Seriously? She made our dog so frightened of the vet that every time we took him to any vet after that, he would pee all over the place, and growl. This is a dog that never growls, but she traumatized him so bad he did. Now we have a wonderful vet elsewhere. My boy actually looks forward to going into the new office, because he loves how kind they are, how good they are with him, no more peeing, no more growling. He practically rips my hubby's arm out of its socket to get into the office to see his "girls." His new vet gets kisses. Dr. Champagne must have gotten her license from a cereal box. I'd avoid this place like the plague. I miss the old King's Row. read more

I give 5 stars to this Veterinary Hospital as have only had positive experiences and the best of care for my dogs. Many years ago, my dog was quite famous here as he was a big black lab who ate 16 lbs of chocolate bark prior to Christmas. We were told he probably wouldn't survive as he sat there wagging his tail and with the best breathe in town. Well, he did make it and lived another 11 years! My most recent visits were for a dental on our small dog. Hugely expensive but not marking them down on that as the price is the same all over town. If that entails the best of care, particularly when under anesthetic, then worth twice the price. Calling in you will be greeted by extremely pleasant and helpful staff and equally so when you walk through the doors. read more

We have enjoyed this vet in the past and have been going here for a few years, but sadly it seems their ability to maintain a professional practice is declining. This last time after forty-five minutes and five phone calls trying to see if I could get an appointment and some medication for my dog's abscessed tooth, being told my dog was a new client (which she wasn't, but they got names wrong), being hung up on before verifying an appointment time, I realized that they were unable to provide assistance in any organized professional manner. We typically request Dr. Ditsworth and absolutely love him. He takes such good care of us. Dr. Ditsworth is very thorough in his explanations and makes sure that discharge instructions are doable and understood. Extremely knowledgeable and professional. I trust him explicitly. He is the best. The front office staff is exceptional! They are upbeat, courteous, and extremely kind. The office is very clean and kept and we are always greeted and welcomed in. My 12 year old dog loved it here! The front desk staff was very nice & helpful! The vet I saw was really sweet, she made sure my dog was comfortable with her before she did anything! He was very happy with the way he was treated (he's had issues with the last vet's office he was at). They even told me about a low cost vaccine clinic they had coming up. When I took both my dogs to the vaccine clinic we were in and out within 20 minutes! I will be going back here for all of my vet needs! read more

I love this place!!! The vets and the entire staff are SO nice!! They have always been able to accommodate me and get my animals in. So many other offices DO NOT do that. When my cats teeth got really bad I took him to another vet that is much closer to my home. They told me how much pain he was in and how he needed teeth removed etc. They didn't have any openings for 6 months though. If he has an oral infection he could DIE by then! I called Kings Row and explained what happened and even though I had taken him to another office for his exam, they were SO kind. They didn't have any actual openings so they had me drop him off in the am and kept him all day so they could get labs done on him. The following week they had me do the same thing and they squeezed him in for his dental work in between patients. I am so grateful for their kindness and understanding. My cat has been a patient there for 18 years now and they have never done me wrong. They are worth the drive for me. read more

I have brought both of my kitties here for a few years, and I cannot be happier with a veterinary service. Dr. Cassie treated an abscess on my cat Archimedes's ear after a fight she had with our local cat gang. She was compassionate, careful, and quick to drain the ear, and gave me instructions on how to do it at home...which was a strangely satisfying task. While there, I updated my vaccinations for nominal charges (approximately $35 for two), and received an antibiotic for preventing further ear infections for another small charge. Dr. Cassie even re-checked the ear ($26) a few days later when this paranoid cat mom wanted to make sure it was healing properly after my in-home intervention. In the past, I had brought the same cat in for the first time to treat an unknown stomach problem, which was quickly diagnosed as a toxic reaction to eating a succulent plant (get rid of your Desert Roses!). She was kept for two days in-house, and I ended up paying $500 or so to treat pancreatitis, an inflamed digestive tract, and monitoring progress from the infection. I was terrified to leave Archimedes there, but the staff took exceptional care of her, and she powered through, against the odds. I hope I will not have to take either cat in for severe illnesses or injuries in the future, but if they get into trouble, I feel as though the staff at Kings Row will do everything in their power to give them another chance. read more

I cannot state strongly enough how much I love King's Row Pet Hosp. Not just b/c of their reasonable prices and pragmatic approach to patient care, and not just b/c they always answer my questions when I call, or find a way to work us into their busy schedule, but b/c of the amazing people there. The front office staff are very welcoming and sweet. They don't dilly-dally while patients are waiting and they treat everyone so kindly. Even more impressive, Dr. Ditsworth, Dr. Ho, Dr. Kingery, and Dr. Cook. Dr. Ditsworth had to handle an emergency with my senior dog (also my heart dog) and he did it with compassion, depth of knowledge, and a realistic yet caring approach. He called me when he said he'd call me, he ran through all the feasible scenarios and why he suggested option A vs option B. He was wonderful during a very stressful time. Then There's Dr. Kingery; she really understands Canine Cognitive Decline and that's not something all vets 'get'. She takes her time, gets on the floor to make your pet more comfortable, and seems to tune into the dog and what he or she is trying to say. Dr. Cook is pretty good with the large breeds (we have a Newfoundland) and was able to pinpoint the mysterious cause of my pup's ails. She followed up every time she said she would and formulated two treatment options for my girl. Large breeds can be tricky to handle - their systems are more sensitive - but she owns large breeds and knows how to handle them AND their people. ;-) Dr. Cook has a more direct, no BS approach, but sometimes you need that and you shouldn't in any way take it personally. Lastly, there's Dr. Cassie Ho. I will never be able to articulate my gratitude for Dr. Ho's treatment of my senior dog. When he stopped responding to his previous course of treatment, when I thought he'd experienced a stroke and I was desperately worried I'd have to let him cross the bridge, Dr. Ho is the one who suggested Gabapentin as a double whammy to treat pain AND cognitive decline. Her out of the box thinking gave my dog back to me. He is less anxious at night, he's more alert & excited and wants to play with his sister often; he even made a run for the car the other day to beg for a ride. He is back to being my lovable goofball and I cried when I thanked her. Also, she is a pocket-sized little mama who doesn't take any crap and deftly handled my cat (with an abscess from a fight) when he was being pissy. As someone who works in healthcare, I know what good care looks like and Kings Row offers excellent care to pets and their people. I love my pets like I love my children; to say that I absolutely trust KRPH with my pets speaks volumes. read more

I love KRPH and I live in East Sparks. It is worth the 30-minute drive to come to this clinic! I have been to several vet hospitals in our area, and used to work at one, so my standards are high (sorry not sorry). Our pets (we) have seen Dr. Cassie (has since moved), Dr. Champagne, Dr. Ditsworth, and most recently, Dr. Sherman. Dr. Sherman is a new doctor (~2 months) at KRPH and is amazing! I was a little nervous to see a new vet, because our elderly dog has several health issues going on, and we lost our cat unexpectedly a few days prior to the appointment. So, I was a bit of a wreck going in. To my relief, Dr. Sherman was thorough, answered all of my questions, and didn't pressure me to purchase anything. Instead, she gave options of what to do, and left it up to me to decide. She didn't rush the appointment, either, which I really appreciated. Thanks so much, Dr. Sherman. read more

I called at 4:45 after calling every other avian vet in town, all of whom refused to see my bird. KRPH doesn't close until 6 PM and they still refused to see my very ill bird, nor would they give me enough medication to see her through to tomorrow morning. She has conjunctivitis in one eye, is breathing hard, puffed up, bedraggled - likely psittacosis. She is unlikely to make it to the morning. I have not had a sick bird in literally decades. I was shocked to discover that at some point Nevada has seen fit to make the livestock medications I used to buy for chickens and pet birds no longer legally available over the counter. I have no idea when this happened, but it is very clear that the avian vets in town are taking full advantage of this situation. Not seeing a sick bird like this is a death sentence. I expect my bird will be dead by the morning and every other bird in the house is at risk. I WILL NOT be taking ANY of them to a vet who is so uncaring - and can't be bothered to see a very sick bird over an hour before closing time because they are ALREADY PACKING UP TO GO HOME at 4:45 when they don't close until 6PM. And that is EXACTLY what the receptionist told me - at 4:45, they are packing up to go home. My little girl won't make it until the morning. Kings Row and their avian vet - killers. read more

He truly understands what hunting dogs go through out in the field. I feel very confident my four legged friends are getting the BEST care possible!!!! We went here for about 3 years with our two dogs. Honestly, it started out well. People were nice, dogs were seen. Then I started noticing how much the front desk people forget, chalked it up to being airheads. No, these people are idiots, not just one of em either. Idk where they hire them or why. You can tell them something and they immediately forget. I basically had to yell at a poor girl, but tbh I didn't feel bad, after saying something 4 times about my sick dog, she finally remembered and doctor took care of something. I tried to avoid the front desk people, just talk to vets. Then after a while, I felt like they were just cranking out animals instead of taking their time. Our dog has been recently diagnosed with diabetes and people couldn't care less. We switched vets, turns out one of our dogs was overweight, had dental issues, etc. KRPH staff never said anything. The place also overcharges compared to other vets in the area. Shop around, just cause they're popular, doesn't mean you'll get good service. read more

What a Difference! My (now former) vets office is open ONE saturday per month, doesnt take ANY appointments after 5pm and are extremely unhelpful (Sierra View Animal Hospital...nice people if you arent a working person). Kings Row is open every other saturday AND has a vaccination clinic (think less than $10 for a rabies vaccine) that you can walk into. They don't pressure you into a checkup (like most vets offices) they just get you in and out quickly and efficiently. I would highly recommend them to ANYONE who is looking for a great, easy vet experience. read more

We were visiting from out of town when one of my dogs ate a "lucky" rabbit's foot. Our vet at home told me I should get her in somewhere for x-rays ASAP just to make sure there weren't any bones that could harm her stomach or intestines. Kings Row Pet Hospital was our choice based on convenience to where we were staying, being open at 8 am, and previous reviews. They were wonderful. I was told to bring her in immediately. They fit us into their already booked schedule and saw us within half an hour of my calling even though, most likely, this wasn't going to be a life or death situation. I base a lot of my impression of a vet on how my dogs react, and Maggie was totally comfortable in the office, completely relaxed with the vet. They did x-rays, then kept her for a few hours for observation just to be on the safe side. I am completely grateful that they were willing to see us on such short notice, fitting us in between existing appointments and surgery. It shows a concern with the well-being of animals above all other consideration. They didn't have to accommodate us, as we probably made them fall behind a bit, nor do they have an expectation that we will ever use them again since we are from out of town, but none of that mattered. They took care of us when we needed our dog to be seen. To me, that's the mark of a good veterinary practice. read more
