This husband‑and‑wife team, Dr. Sharon Dose and Dr. Tom Dose, is truly exceptional: pragmatic, efficient, well‑organized, honest, and incredibly thorough. After visiting many veterinarians over the years, this is hands‑down one of the best places I will ever take my small dog. Our Bichon Frise, Aspen, came to us almost a year ago from a horrific puppy mill, and today was his very first anesthesia dental cleaning. I'm a huge fan of Dr. Karen Shaw Becker and her book The Forever Dog, and after reading her sobering statistic--"By age 3, 80% of dogs have periodontal disease, most of it below the gumline where bone loss, abscesses, and tumors go undetected"--I knew I had to get his teeth taken care of right away. From the very first visit, I was impressed. Parking is easy, the location is simple to find, and Dr. Sharon Dose personally handles everything from answering phones and booking appointments to performing thorough exams. She provided clear estimates without me having to ask (unlike many other vets in town), and she even took the time to show me exactly how to brush Aspen's teeth properly at home. No other vet has ever done that. The day of the procedure (early Sunday morning), their thoughtfulness truly shone. We received clear pre‑op instructions, a straightforward bill breakdown, detailed emails before pickup, a phone call with updates, and even a look at the decaying tooth they removed. Everything was handled with skill, excellent time management, professionalism, and genuine care. Their passion for keeping pets' teeth healthy is obvious. We're deeply grateful for the tooth extraction and the thorough cleaning. Aspen's teeth are now sparkly white, his breath smells so much better, and--most importantly--we know he was in the best hands possible. Their honesty, knowledge, and non‑predatory pricing make them absolute gems in the Reno/Tahoe community. I truly wish more people operated with their level of integrity and heart. 3/14/2024- Brought my boy dog in due to him itching his ear.. I fell behind with his allergy shot, and thus here we are with an ear infection.. I always learn something at every visit.. lol.. All I can say is I am so grateful there are experienced vets here that can offer assistance without costing thousands of dollars for canine dental procedure. No frills (front receiving area was basically a simple table and a double of plastic chairs, not the usual office furnishings) and no fuss: good old fashioned professional care from Dr Dose. She answered her phone during the early hour of 7am cheerfully and gave me everything I needed to know about bringing relief and care to my senior chihuahua. She indicated by phone that the dental procedures generally occur on Sunday but she made the decision to give my fur baby immediate care that same day. I am so grateful! I was very impressed with the outgoing report I received detailing the procedure my fur baby underwent. They are currently not taking new patients unless they have to undergo dental procedure and they serve pets under 30 pounds. read more

I was told that they now refuse to do business with us because we missed ONE appointment 6 months ago. Fur-ever thankful for the groomer that introduced me to Dr. Dose's Pet Vets. I had shopped around after receiving an initial estimate for dental cleaning and removal from my main vet and being told my doggie would need 4 teeth removed that it would cost $1200 (starting). Afterwards, a coworker recommended Fairgrounds animal hospital (their estimate was $2000!!) Definitely a hard pill to swallow but after meeting Dog City groomer (shoutout)! she suggested to check them out. After being explained the process and that it typically does not exceed $530 (with all needed teeth removal) I was on board. I really enjoyed chatting with Dr. Tom Dose, being that it was close to 5:45 a.m. on a Sunday morning, he was the most upbeat personality that I have experienced in a quite a while. I really like their forms of communication through email on how everything was going. I even got a lesson on my doggie's breed and that what I had been told through transfer of owners may not be fully accurate. I could feel that they truly care for the pets that come to see them and would love to bring little Bambino back for future vet care! read more

These people don't even deserve a star. Dr. Dick is their deserved name. If you are a new client and younger, you get treated like garbage. if you are older like them and are an established client then you get treated well. They are too cheap to pay for staff so they do everything themselves which takes away from proper care of the dogs. You cannot help a dog and answer the phones at the same time. Hire a receptionist !! Their practice is very ugly smells bad and is stale. When I went in with my dog, the vet was so bossy and nasty telling me what I could and could not say to my dog, and she said I was early for my appt and I wasn't. The vet thought I was someone else and was about to give the dog before me bloodwork. She can't even get it straight because you shouldn't be answering the phone and scheduling appts while working on a dog !! Hire a receptionist!! Stay away from these people. They are old grouchy bats that need to retire. They have zero compassion or empathy for anyone but themselves. read more

I love the Dose's Vets. This is the sweetest couple and so attentive to my babies Jada and Bella. I don't trust any other doctor. I literally call them every time I panic about my babies and they reassure and check just in case it's just a hyper mom or something serious. I have heard of horrible experiences with expensive other doctors here in Reno and I can honestly say they are fair and work with you regarding treatment plans. Jada is older for example and it only cost about 600 dollars to extract and complete a dental cleaning as opposed to the 2k dollars another Reno vet was charging. I just love their care and customer service. I can call or email and I know they will answer and have my babies best interest in mind. read more

I have been taking my dog to Drs Dose since 2017. Nothing but the best! If they had 6 stars on here I'd give it to them. Last week I had an emergency with my dog. I thought she had the flu. Dr S Dose checked her out and through her 44 years experience she diagnosed a very infected uterus. It required emergency surgery. They prepared and completed the major surgery perfectly. Pup is healing greatly and is already back to normal minutes one giant infected organ. read more

For someone who is supposed to be in a field with good bedside manner, the female dose is very rude. If you're not taking new clients, you should probably have a website or update your google/yelp page to reflect that. When people call to make an appointment, it's usually because they're stressed about their animals. Instead of being rude you should learn to say "we're not taking any new clients at this time, you can try xyz though" literally every vet I call gives me some kind of advice or recommendation and dr dose was so rude on the phone I was shocked. I wouldn't go here even if they were taking new clients. Seems to be other reviews saying how rude she is so seems pretty common! read more

Drs. Tom and Sharon Dose are fantastic. When I moved to Reno in July, a colleague recommended them to me. I have two cats, one of which regularly needs a corticosteroid injection to keep at bay her chronic skin condition. The first visit fee to get one's pet in the system is $25, plus the $25 regular office visit fee. The injection that my cat receives every 6-7 weeks is $20. Such reasonable prices! Before I moved to Reno, I lived in Atlanta and paid a $50 office fee and $40 for the shot each visit. Drs. Tom and Sharon run the show all on their own, and as much as I understand and appreciate the roles of vet techs at larger practices, I am glad that they do everything relating to my pet rather than have the vet tech do the intake. The initial visits for each of my two cats was thorough. I learned that one of my cats had a pet recovery service microchip implanted in her because Dr. Dose scans the pets. I'm the second owner of my cats. Why didn't my vet in Atlanta scan the cats so that I would have this information?! I appreciate that Dr. Dose did! Dose's Pet Vets has great hours: they open at 7 am on weekdays and weekends. And whenever I have called to schedule a shot, I have been able to get the cat in on the same day. I appreciate how prompt but thorough Dr. Dose (I usually see Dr. Tom) is with my cat. He's also really funny, and it is clear that he loves animals. He grew up in Iowa and had his first practice there, and I love his laidback Midwest attitude. In short: I highly recommend them! read more

They have not been taking on new clients for years, something they do not disclose on their voice message or web site. The vet with whom I talked was rather terse and misunderstands the issue I described and then draws conclusions from her misunderstanding: NOT a good sign and not the kind of compassionate veterinary clinic pet owners would want--but because they no longer take new patients, having them as a (primary) veterinarian is not an option. I suppose this a good way avoid petty veterinarians. read more

Dr. Tom Dose is a wonderful, laid back person. His wife is good but doesn't sugarcoat it. We no longer live in Reno or we would still be taking some of our pets to them as they only take care of smaller animals. Prior to moving, they took care of all our animals vaccinations: our Tuxedo cat Lily who at 18 pounds is overweight and desperately needs weight control, our shih tzu Apa, our chihuahua Mollie, and other animals that have since passed, our orange cats Leo, Ringo, and Zackafur. Since it is just the two of them running the place, they are extremely affordable and don't gauge you like some places. You do have to call during business hours and can't leave a message, which is the only inconvenience I ever experienced. read more

We have been going to Dose's Animal Hospital for years and have had a Love/Hate relationship with them. We loved Dr. Tom and couldn't stand Dr. Sharon. Her rudeness and condescending manner to her clients is beyond words. It's like she is trying to pick a fight for something or anything the minute you walk in the door. Today she refused treatment on our cat because she said she didn't feel we had the capabilities to care for our cat after he was discharged. That insult is typical of her bedside manner, arrogance and lack of compassion for the pets she sees and the families that just want treatment and care for their little loved ones. My friend referred me to this veterinarian. This place is located in a shopping center, very unassuming and you might just miss it if you are not looking for it. It is run by Dr. Tom and Sharon Dose - there is no front office. They answer their phones, schedule appointments, conduct the exams and perform whatever else is necessary to help their patients. The no frills helps to keep their costs reasonable. I have been going to them for about 5 years now. They took great care of my cat Meow Meow and was very compassionate helping her crossed the rainbow bridge. They also did a fantastic job checking on my new cat Milo when I brought him home from SPCA (he had a kitty cold). Although this place has its quirks - their hours are different than most veterinarians, you can't leave voicemail, doctor may take a call while conducting an exam, etc.; both Dr. Dose provide great vet care at reasonable prices. Being new to Reno I was referred to the Dose's by my neighbors. I checked out their reviews and wanted to give them a try for my Pom baby, Jada. If anyone knows me, Jada is my Child. Very well loved and spoiled. I called the Dose's on Wednesday and was able to immediately get a response. Had a wonderful conversation with Mrs. Sharon who assured me of the process for my doggie's teeth cleaning. She mentioned while they weren't taking new patients she would squeeze me in for a cleaning on the upcoming Sunday! She met me the next day to check Jada out in prep for surgery. She answered all my questions and explained everything very detailed. I met Mr. Tom day of surgery and had an amazing conversation who eased my fear with Jada's surgery. He could tell I was nervous but his bedside manner was amazing. He took longer to answer all my questions and explore other concerns I had regarding my baby. After surgery he called to let me know everything went well. I can't tell you how much it meant that he followed everything he said he would regarding information on the process and what my cost would be. By far the cheapest in town. They put the puppies under anesthesia to make it safe for the baby and they. I was excited to see Jada was happy hours after waking up. She was her normal sweet tempered playing self right after. I am thankful to a wonderful experience and even following up after surgery. It's important to have a rapport with your vet and reasonable prices. I've been dealing with them for 12 years with two dogs. They are both very caring. Sharon can be a bit brusque at times but it doesn't affect the care she gives. Their prices are reasonable because they have low overhead, no other staff, just the husband and wife doctors. I recommend them highly but because they are so good they have their hands full and are not taking new patients. When they are taking new patients it is for animals under 30#. read more

Oh I can't rave enough about this clinic ... this was our first visit...they were recommenced by my grandson's girlfriend... I had my Chiweenie, Ammi's(7.6 years) teeth cleaned ... Dr Sharon had Ammi for less than 15 minutes initially and told me MORE than the other vet I have been going to for 3 years ... Dr Sharon Dose was very thorough n detailed ... during the surgery she took pictures of her declining teeth(2 to be exact) emailed them to me plus other information, surgery report, ... put her on medication to keep her gums healthy... again can't thank them enough and I will be returning for any other medical needs Ammi might have ... oh and I saved almost 25% of what I was expecting from other clinic's ... read more

My experience was back in September, but I needed awhile before I could write my experience with Dose's vet. My dog had been seeing both Dose's throughout the years. They offered good care, once my dog started having seizures they prescribed medication to help lessen the amount seizures. They have no front the desk...which some seem to like since there's no middle man but it makes contacting them difficult. It also means that they'll answer calls during your appointment sometimes...I'll get back to this. It had come to the point where we had to put our dog to sleep. We made an appointment for the end of their work day. Without going into too much detail our experience with Sharon Dose was traumatic and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone for end of life pet care. She seemed to want to go for the cheaper route with an injection. She tried and failed multiple times while my dog was clearly in pain. She finally opted for the gas mask after I told her this was not working. It would have been beneficial to have a vet tech to assist..or for her to call her husband in because an extra set of hands was needed. The second it was finished she said "that will be $45". Maybe try collecting copays at the start of appointments like this? On top of all this she answered the phone 2 times during the procedure. I understand cutting corners to reduce cost but when providing such a poor treatment and customer service, I think it's time to step back and reevaluate your clinic. This was completely unacceptable and I highly recommend going somewhere else. read more
