I agreed to take on a foster puppy that was coming in from out of town and I would be meeting for the first time at Blue Pearl. We had very limited information to give Dr. Marin but she listened to what we knew and started right away with a very thorough exam. She was extremely kind, compassionate, and very communicative throughout the process. Dr. Marin worked on the puppy throughout the night, called with an update, and met with me after already working for 12 hours to discuss the plan of care moving forward. Because of Dr. Marin, this little girl's future is very bright. I hope that if I have another pet emergency, Dr. Marin will be on staff! Also, to honor Dr. Marin, we've decided to name the puppy Maren.

We ended up in a situation where we knew our pup was ill and close to passing but couldn't get into our vet until the next day - they recommended Blue Pearl and we are so thankful they did. From the moment we called to the moment we left, we were handled with such grace and care. The staff went out of their way to make sure ours and our pups needs were met. I was terrified we'd be in a sterile room, but the room they placed us in gave us time to hold our old man and snuggle him while he passed. No one wants to be in this situation, but they really made it as comfortable as possible. Thank you for holding our hands through this process.

11/23/24 Called prior to arriving and reception stated there was only one other patient- Mentioned that our boy dog may have injured his leg when he was going out the doggie door.. Four stars because the staff was very welcoming..provided bottles of water while we patiently waited- Glad we were able to get him in quickly and examined. They do the triage in a separate room ( which I like as I get a little stressed out being in the room seeing him in a discomforting state).. Dr. came in after assessing him..and gave the options of getting X-rays- $$$ Decided to wait on the x- rays.. Before we could get any pain medication they would have to do bloodwork. Sent home with a pain medication and carprofen... Disappointed that the receipt did not have his bloodwork results nor did they mention about the results, and no after care instructions. Hoping it's just a sprain/ soft tissue and can be back to normal..

    We miss her.

I honestly don't even want to be writing this review. It feels strange to give five stars for something tied to such a heartbreaking experience--but the compassion shown to us deserves to be recognized. A few days before we brought our girl here, she had been battling a series of infections and was being treated at urgent care. Just before what would have been her third visit, I had a gut feeling something was really wrong. We decided to take her to the emergency vet instead. Tragically, she passed away in the car on the way there. We arrived at this clinic in complete hysterics. The staff ran out to help immediately, took her inside, and tried CPR--but it was already too late. They gently brought her back to us in a private room and gave us time and space to say goodbye. They were kind, patient, and incredibly compassionate. We arranged for her cremation, and when I returned to pick up her ashes, I broke down again. Once more, the team treated me with so much empathy and care. I never got the chance to use the actual services we had scheduled--she was supposed to have a CT scan--but I'm grateful I now know this place exists. In one of the hardest moments of our lives, they treated us and our girl with true dignity and kindness. Thank you to the staff. I will never forget your compassion.

This place is the last place I would ever take my fur baby again! I went in here because my dog needed emergency care due to her spay incision being infected and I looked on yelp and google for reviews and they had decent ratings but boy was I fooled.. I came in at 11:40 am and was shoved in a tiny room with my dogs and kids and didn't get seen until 3:40 pm. When given my estimate I had animal balance on the phone as they were covering our payment and when asked why we were quoted at $2500 the doctor (LAURA MARIN) grabbed my phone and hung up on the caller as she felt offended to be questioned why the estimate was so high. After I signed off for treatment and they said I could come pick her up they informed me that they didn't even stitch up her incision after realizing it was open in a few different spots so now here I am at another er waiting to finally get my baby treated. My dog has anxiety and is very vocal. They took my dog for every exam and would not let me come and observe and they stuck her in a tiny kennel as when she was returned to me her cone was broken. She has had that same cone for a week and never once under our supervision or even left alone has managed to break it. It makes me wonder how they were treating her.. please don't waste your time or your fur babies on this HORRIBLE business. If you want an emergency room that cares, provides coloring pages for your kids and fixes your emergency room trauma quickly and professionally please choose animal emergency center. They are AMAZING, patient and getting my dog the care she needs.

Our boy dog went out the doggie door and somehow threw his hip and started limping. Not wanting to wait too long, we came here at 8:30 pm. The staff is very professional and kind and took the injury seriously. He is getting blood work and pain management. Check it out.

DO NOT VISIT!!! I visited here in November and had to wait 3 weeks just to be seen, VCA recommended us here and wanted Chubby to be SEEN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE for her condition at the time. First off I am 20 when writing this and Chubby had to be euthanized due to the conditions she was in. I had Chubby since I was 12 and she was euthanized on my birthday and passed in my arms. I tried the best I could with her I stayed up with her did medication we got from VCA and tried to make her comfortable. When we had gotten to BP the receptionist felt cold and had ignored me when I was checking out. We had seen Laura Quilling and she did a $280 exam and basically told us that Chubby had an infection somewhere in her ear or a tumor behind her eye. She also shoved a q tip swab in Chubbys ear which caused her to cry. There was an assistant there with Quilling who had explained procedures that could be done with Chubby and had a more in depth talk with Chubby's health history. She was more compassionate than all the staff I had seen there, I didn't get her name. Quilling recommended that we do a ct there and a neurology consultation that day which seemed unnecessary and wanted us to pay $407 for medication which she didn't sound too assuring would work. So a week later we tried to go Animal Emergency & Specialty Center on South Virginia (I highly recommend that place over this one) where they said her eye would need to come out and should be placed on medication immediately or they recommend euthanasia due to the state she was in, so I made the call that she shouldn't suffer any more than she already did. SO PLEASE DONT VISIT HERE FOR HER SAKE!!! THIS PLACE WILL TRY TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF YOU!

Had a wonderful experience with this pet hospital. My dog Plato had a stroke, and great compassion was shown to me. They allowed me the time needed to be with my pet. To also see how much he would or would not improve. They checked in with me frequently. Plato lasted 2 more months, after he tried really hard to get back to himself. Alas it was not to be he passed away at home with us. We took him in to Blue Pearl where the staff put us in a room to hold him for a while. They never rushed us and checked in with us until we were able to give his body up. The took care of all his after life arrangements, cremation etc. Highly recommend this place, they made a heart breaking experience more bearable.

After visiting many veterinarians over the years, this is hands‑down one of the best places I will ever take my small dog. Our Bichon Frise, Aspen, came to us almost a year ago from a horrific puppy mill, and today was his very first anesthesia dental cleaning. I'm a huge fan of Dr. Karen Shaw Becker and her book The Forever Dog, and after reading her sobering statistic--"By age 3, 80% of dogs have periodontal disease, most of it below the gumline where bone loss, abscesses, and tumors go undetected"--I knew I had to get his teeth taken care of right away. From the very first visit, I was impressed. Parking is easy, the location is simple to find, and Dr. Sharon Dose personally handles everything from answering phones and booking appointments to performing thorough exams. She provided clear estimates without me having to ask (unlike many other vets in town), and she even took the time to show me exactly how to brush Aspen's teeth properly at home. No other vet has ever done that. The day of the procedure (early Sunday morning), their thoughtfulness truly shone. We received clear pre‑op instructions, a straightforward bill breakdown, detailed emails before pickup, a phone call with updates, and even a look at the decaying tooth they removed. Everything was handled with skill, excellent time management, professionalism, and genuine care. Their passion for keeping pets' teeth healthy is obvious. We're deeply grateful for the tooth extraction and the thorough cleaning. Aspen's teeth are now sparkly white, his breath smells so much better, and--most importantly--we know he was in the best hands possible. Their honesty, knowledge, and non‑predatory pricing make them absolute gems in the Reno/Tahoe community. I truly wish more people operated with their level of integrity and heart. If you have a small dog, do yourself a favor and go see them. You won't find a more hardworking, caring, or trustworthy team. Highly recommend for your fur babies!

For a long time I truly loved this clinic. The staff used to feel very welcoming, attentive, and personal, and you genuinely felt cared for when you walked in. I'm really sad to write this review because I normally don't leave negative reviews, but after giving the clinic several chances I felt it was important to share my experience. The clinic seems much busier now, and while I understand that is a sign of a successful business and I support that, it has started to feel like they may be taking on more than they can handle, and that change is noticeable in the overall clinic experience. Most recently I called because my dog's paw was swollen. Since there were no appointments available, I was told I could drop her off in the morning and they would try to fit her in. I waited about 2.5 hours for a call back and received very little guidance beyond confirming that her paw was swollen. The conversation quickly shifted to recommending x rays on both paws along with other items like vaccines and tests that didn't seem directly related to the reason I brought her in. I also asked about switching her dog food due to past urinary issues and never received clear guidance on that. It left me feeling like the focus was more on adding charges rather than helping me understand what was best for my dog, and this has been my experience the past 3-4 visits. This clinic used to be a place I trusted deeply, which is why this is so disappointing. I'm only sharing this in hopes that the team might bring back some of the personal care and attention that once made this place feel so special.

Our kitty was ready to go but there was no way I was going to put her in a carrier, drive her to the vet, and make her last hour stressful and miserable. I called my Vet, VCA Feline Medical Center, and they provided me with the information for Dr Bufkin. I called her right away and she came same day. Most of the experience is a blur and something I don't want to remember, BUT I do remember opening my door to Dr Bufkin and receiving the biggest hug filled with so much compassion and comfort. A stranger. Not my vet. And it was exactly what I needed. She came in, assessed the situation, explained what was going to happen, and was in and out in less than 15 minutes. The grief that occurs with the loss of a pet is significant. Should you find yourself in need of end of life services for your pet, do yourself a favor and call Dr Bufkin. Give yourself the gift of grieving in the comfort of your own home, not at a vet's office, and skip the stressful drive (for your pet and you!) in the final hours of your pet's life. They deserve that and you do too.
