I absolutely love the staff here and Dr. Kim. They are extremely patient with my reactive beagle and I can tell they truly care about the animals. I've been coming here for about four years now and it has always been pleasant. First of all I explained my point I don't think it's fair to pay so much money why? I returned some medicines that were being resold to me for $180 dollars when on Amazon you find them for $17 and she started talking loudly and saying that if we didn't pay we were going straight to Collection all this happened with Mrs. Angelica K Banfield 190 County Ave. My point is before doing something they need to talk about it and have communication with the person who is with the pet because he would have to pay so much money for the second time again if they didn't even do what corresponded to him the first time or am I just going to pay for saying that I was in a hospital? Honestly, I was very hesitant coming here after all the bad reviews. My dog (Bowser) only needed a check up to complete his registration for Banfield's wellness plan, but was worried that I'd have a bad experience with staff, long wait times, etc.. I finally decided to take a chance and book with Dr. Hatch based on all the previously raving reviews, and I am really glad I did. The only annoyance was that all Banfields were booked for 3 weeks to a month out, but besides that, everything went smoothly. The day of the appointment, I arrived 15 minutes prior to my scheduled time (there were 3 people waiting outside before me) and checked in through a walkie talkie at the door. The staff came out and brought Bowser in within 5 minutes while I filled out his paperwork, owners aren't allowed in the building yet due to COVID. They called me shortly after to discuss the reason for the visit, explained the wellness plan to me, asked if any vaccines were needed that day, and told me the doctor would call me when Bowser was ready. Dr. Hatch called me 10-15 minutes later to discuss everything that they had done (bloodwork, tests, check up) and told me since the plan covered a dental cleaning, I should schedule that since it's good preventative care. I had a few more health questions to ask and Dr. Hatch was patient/helpful and took his time to explain everything to me. A few minutes after that, Bowser was brought back out, I scheduled his dental cleaning, and we were on our way home. The total time from getting there to leaving was no more than 30-40 minutes. I don't know if I was just there on a good day but I had a great experience. All the staff members I came in contact with and spoke with over the phone were friendly. My original review was written for Secaucus Animal Hospital. However, that practice was unfortunately sold to Banfield. My first appointment after Banfield took over operations was VERY upsetting. I had scheduled an appointment with Dr. Hatch, my regular vet. This was during c*vid lockdowns, and the appointments were curbside. First, the technician who came out to take my cat was VERY pushy about vaccinations. My cat is older and I no longer do vaccinations unless absolutely necessary. The tech tried multiple times to get me to consent to vaccines and finally only relented when I said "I will discuss it with the doctor when he calls". Once my cat was inside, I was never actually called for the exam/treatment. I was only called once everything was done. I was told about an ear infection that she was diagnosed with and treated for - which I would have consented to had I been asked, but I brought the cat in for a chronic skin allergy and needed her meds refilled. The person who called me had an accent that I had a hard time understanding, so when I was speaking with the receptionist to pay, I asked that Dr. Hatch call me when he was free. I was then advised that Dr. Hatch was off for the week. "Well, then, who saw my cat?!?". The person who called me had been the vet who saw my cat. I had a strong relationship with Dr. Hatch, so I was not as upset that he didn't call during the exam because I trust him and he knows me. However, the fact that a vet I have never seen before administered diagnostics and treatments without consent, while also ignoring my actual reason for the visit, was infuriating. I went to this vet a couple of other times while Dr. Hatch was still there (and once for a euthanasia that I couldn't wait for an appointment on) but once Dr. Hatch was gone, I never went back. Dr. Hatch and some of his old staff were the only reasons to stay - Banfield ruined this veterinary practice. And charged a lot more for the experiences. read more

Yet another money hungry vet who doesn't care about animals. $700 later, no cultures were done, which should have been. Plus, I couldn't be with my pet during his examination, as they "take him to the back". Now I have to find another vet who doesn't automatically try to sell you on expensive diets I told him my pet won't even eat and he didn't even run the right tests to get to the root of the problem to even determine which diet the pet should be on. Plus, Dr. Kim, the only doctor there, speaks broken English & I couldn't understand most of what he was saying. So now I have to find another vet. It seems to me that the vet business in general is one of the most greed driven medical practices to be had, even worse than overpriced human doctors. Dr. Allam, who used to be at their other practice in Secaucus was the best vet I've ever been to, but very much to my dismay, he left. Brought the frenchies in for a doggie oil change aka gland expression. Re upped on my heart Gaurd scripts and picked up some prednisone for the chronically allergic dog. Dr Hatch is still a gem. He takes his time and is super genuine. He even cleaned my pooches ears free of charge. It's funny more than one person has mentioned the poor attitude of a male front desk person. My fiancee and I are first time pet owners and we adopted a cat from a foster home where she was living with 18 other cats. We feel so so lucky that we found incredible vet services so close to home. The initial check-up I was apprehensive because our cat was very under-weight and she was throwing up pretty frequently. Dr. Hansen calmed all of my nerves, she told me all of the possible situations, spent so much time with us, and she did not pressure me into getting any tests such as blood work or scans done - she encouraged me to completely make my own decisions. In addition, she showed so much love towards our cat - the doctor and the tech were fawning over her and giving her so much attention and love that it actually made me emotional. I was so touched and felt so respected during that visit. The second visit my fiancee took our cat back because the vomiting was continuing and this time we decided to get blood work. Incredibly, my fiancee said the same thing about feeling so confident in the veterinarians and techs, and said how much attention and love they showed our cat (and he had seen Dr. Hatch this time). My fiancee reported that he was extremely comforting, she was nervous and meow-ing constantly and he made her feel so safe, in addition to making my fiancee feel at ease about our concerns. We are so happy to have found this place as the Doctors and techs we've had experience with are competent and compassionate. Not as if Secaucus Animal Hospital needs any further praise, but here it goes. Dr. Danforth is amazing with my little old man cat/child Morgan. Since moving to the Jersey area, I have been bringing him here, and with that, he comes with quite a few health issues. His previous vet was unable to diagnose an issue, that she was able to do so with some blood work, and an ultrasound. It is noteworthy, that it was undiagnosed for TWO years, and thousands of $$'s later. Despite my loving our old vet, it seems he was not privy to newer technology, or plainly stated, couldn't figure it out. As an FYI - at that time, we were struggling with putting him down if he continued in such a state. Thank god for Dr, Danforth nipping that in the bud, as he's healthier than most cats 5 years younger than him now. Dr. Danforth's bedside manner is fantastic. She handles cats very well, and is extremely respectful, knowledgable, and loving. As well, her follow up, and level of communication is rare, and greatly appreciated. Throughout his treatment, I have had no issues getting a hold of her, and in fact, if I email her, I usually receive a reply within a few hours - if not immediately. Dr. Danforth is very knowledgable, and truly goes in depth in regards to treatment plans, and takes quality of life into consideration, and very seriously. Putting my little guy in her hands cart blanche is the biggest compliment I can give. You will feel at ease, and know your cat is more than well taken care of. read more

This place was disappointing. Honestly. I never do these reviews but it got to the point that I needed to say my peace for the next person who might be looking into vets. I just got a cat and took her here for the first time to get a full check up. They asked me to bring a sample of her poop so they could test her but when I picked her up I realized that they never even took the sample and never did the test. This was on top of performing the check up in less than 30 minutes. I'm not a vet or know anything about pet care since this is my first pet but a full checkup that took less than 30 minutes and one that they never thought to check the bag for the poop sample was disconcerting. On top of all that they finally did the test and called giving me the results of the test but they never weighed her so they don't know how much of meds to give her since it is based off of her weight. What kind of check up was it when they never weighed her? PLUS, to add a crappy icing on a crappy cake she is completely out of wack and they said it was because of the meds they gave to sedate her. How did they know how much to give her if they never weighed her? I am beyond disappointed. I don't even know how to follow up with this. read more

There are a lot of recent reviews regarding the switch from Secaucus Animal Hospital to Banfield. It is undeniably a different, less convenient experience in recent months between that & COVID-19 but it needs to be said that Dr. Hatch is unbelievable. He really goes above and beyond to thoroughly and patiently answer all of our questions every time we go (and we definitely ask too many). It can be stressful to leave your pet and wait in the parking lot, but it is well worth it to deal with Dr. Hatch. read more

Dr. Hatch and his staffs are always supportive and caring. Although we do not live in the area, we still go to Dr. Hatch because we trust him. My dog has little bumps which is called sebaceous cyst (like a pimple, nothing serious) but this time, Dr. Hatch found a little tiny bump where it's easy to miss, very small in a place we almost never touch and It seems like this tiny little lump is something that we should be monitoring. I would highly recommend taking your pet to the Secaucus Animal Hospital. My JRT loves being here because she is well cared for. The doctors and techs are wonderful. I brought my JRT here two weeks ago because her stomach was bloated and I thought it might be something more serious. They took her right in and gave me the x-ray results promptly. Thankfully, it was nothing serious. The next day I received a follow up call from Dr. Hansen checking up on how she was feeling. We adopted our cat in 2013 and owe this vet clinic a lot. Along with our adoption papers we also received vet records. Our cat was trapped as a feral kitten with a severe eye injury and taken to Secaucus Animal Hospital for treatment where she stayed for about a month. I'm always touched by the technicians' kindness as I read their notes. At first, our cat was "vomiting, no appetite, and depressed" for several days, but then the notes change to "Seemed brighter than yesterday", "sitting in meatloaf position", "was purring through treatments". Her eye still has issues, but this hospital absolutely saved our cat's life. She is funny and smart and incredibly sweet, and we are eternally grateful to this vet. read more

I am so sad to be leaving this review. Unfortunately, Secaucus Animal Hospital was sold to the corporation Banfield and it's completely different. I've been taking my dog to Dr. Hatch, who is still the doctor on site, for 10 years. The last few times I've tried to get her in with an illness, the practice has been booked solid for a month. This is because the clinic itself has no control over booking handled by Banfield and Dr. Hatch is now run ragged by routine things like vaccinations and new puppy/kitten visits which are sometimes booked to over 40 patients a day (that's less than 10 minutes with each patient)! Previously, you accompanied your pet to an exam room and were able to discuss the pet's conditions directly with the Dr. as he examined them. Now, Banfield has a tech bring the pet to the back without you, and the doctor comes out to the waiting room to share findings. It's very uncomfortable and rushed. Imagine being told something difficult and personal like your dog has a certain time left surrounded by strangers waiting to for their new kitty to get spayed. I will be requesting my dog's records today to take her to a new vet. It's heartbreaking because Dr. Hatch is amazing, but he simply isn't afforded the time and leeway to give the level of care to his patients he once did because of corporate greed. read more

I called around different vets in the Hudson county area to see if anyone could take him that same day or the day after to get him examined and vaccinated but nobody was willing to take him at such short notice. The receptionist at Secaucus animal hospital actually cared and although they were booked for the day, she put me on hold and went to speak to a manager to see if they could squeeze us in and they did! Dr. Sposato did a full examination and called with the results and took his time to thoroughly go over the tests completed and findings. Both my dogs have been treated at the Secaucus Animal Hospital since they were puppies. Now they are 13 & 15 and I am left looking for a new Doctor for them. I did know the practice was sold until I called one day and the voice recording said Banfield Pet Hospital. I was unsure of what happened but left a voicemail, because no answered in the middle of the day. I called a few more times and always got a voice and never got a return call. So I emailed Dr. Hatch and he explained that he had sold his practice, but was still working there. He had someone call me within a few minutes. This was only to pick up medications. Then it came time to make an appointment. Again, I could never get anyone the phone! When I would call they were so rude and couldn't see my dogs for weeks. So twice I have had to bring them to emergency hospital in the MIDDLE of the work day! Now I have totally given up and have made an appointment to see new Veterinarian. Been taking our new puppy Bruce to Secaucus Animal Hospital since we brought him home two months ago. So far, I have no complaints whatsoever. Our baby had come to us with a dermoid cyst in one eye, giardia, and a skin infection that was unrelated to the giardia. Every staff member (doctors and assistants) we've worked with has been very kind and helpful with all of our concerns. Bruce is now 4 months old and looks great, no skin issues in sight. I am so sad to write a bad review. I've been taking my two dogs here for years and have always had great service. There was always a bit of a revolving door of doctors, but each one was wonderful and caring. All of the staff is kind hearted and really sweet to our pups. I don't know what has been going on lately, but things have been going downhill. Today my husband brought our dog there for an emergency visit. She was injured playing fetch and couldn't walk. Because of COVID protocols he couldn't go in with her. He sat in the parking lot for two hours waiting for her. He was told that the vet would call when she was being examined, but that didn't happen. He got a call from someone else when the exam was done simply telling him the exam was done and she has new medicine. When asked what the medicine was for the person had to go check. They also mentioned that she should get an X-ray, but their X-ray machine was broken. They did not give him contact info for another vet to get an X-ray. Our dog was sent home with new pain medicine, still not able to walk (she is 42 lbs btw so it's not easy to carry her around). I think it's irresponsible to send her home with no diagnosis and extra pain medicine. I also don't know how they get away with charging for an exam and not allowing us to speak with a doctor. I would normally chalk it up to an oversight as they were very busy, but this was the second time this has happened. A few months ago we brought our dog in for a tooth infection. They also said they would call us while she was being examined, but they didn't. They ended up doing some additional blood work that was not necessary (they had just done it weeks earlier when she was there for dental work) and if they had just looked at her chart or spoke with us over the phone while examining her we could have explained that it was redundant. I'm sad to write this review because the doctors and nurses are wonderful, caring people. But it's simply not okay to examine pets without speaking with their owners. Pets can't advocate for themselves and may not receive proper treatment unless a dialogue happens during the exam. read more

I originally came here when they were at their old location off Paterson Plank (I think). They are currently in a new facility off County Road, which is super nice. The building is bigger, brighter, and clean, with all state-of-the-art equipment. The waiting room is very welcoming, with everything from a water cooler, coffee, and fun playful cats to watch (and adopt!). There is also a parking lot to make your life easier. We hadn't experienced any problems with our cats since then, so I hadn't been in awhile. Unfortunately, when our little Oliver started having breathing difficulties a few weeks ago, it was time for a visit. While appointments are recommended, I got there as they opened. They took Oliver right away. The office staff was very warm and caring. Before I knew it, I was speaking with the fantastic Dr. Danforth about what our stages of action would be. She was helpful, courteous, and professional. Since our first visit, she has been amazing, whether it be with a follow-up call or a chat about recommendations for cats with heart failure. She will be very honest and upfront about your pet's health and will not bullshit you. Not once have I felt like she was just in it for the money or that she genuinely didn't give a shit about my favorite big orange cat. The prices here are very reasonable, and the staff will work with you with regards to these sorts of matters. You can find a clean vet building with fancy machines just about anywhere. But you may not find such quality people just anywhere. Thankfully, Secaucus Animal Hospital has an entire staff of awesome doctors, technicians, receptionists, and more, which makes even the most stressful visits a little easier. The new building is great, they have a parking lot which makes it much easier when handling a howling cat in a carrier. She has never had an issue with any of the vets and the receptionists are very nice. They make each animal and owner feel at ease. When we go away with the entire family we have them board the cat. When considering a new Vet for our two 10-year old bichons, I looked to online reviews as one of my resources. Fortunately, I found the most wonderful practice at Secaucus Animal Hospital and now it is time to return the favor. We have been taking our dogs, Spot and Rose, to Secaucus Animal Hospital for approximately two years now and in that time they have had regular check-ups, unscheduled visits, emergency visits, boarding and surgery, pretty much everything. We could not be more pleased with Dr. Hatch and the entire practice at Secaucus Animal Hospital. It is conveniently located, has parking, great hours and from the first time we entered their beautiful and clean facility I knew we were on the right track. Then we met Dr. Hatch, Dr. Danforth, the Vet Techs and Staff, and each and everyone has been genuinely caring, knowledgeable and professional. Now to the point of this review, Dr. Hatch, on his day off, and with the assistance of Dr. Danforth, Dr. Brown and the entire Secaucus Animal Hospital village saved our dog's life by removing a 3.5-pound mass, along with her spleen. From the moment we saw Dr. Danforth for the initial consultation to when Dr. Hatch removed her stitches two weeks later, everything was handled with the upmost care and concern for us as well as our pet. We were given detailed information to assist us in making an informed decision, followed up with a lot of support. In our last visit I told Dr. Hatch that even if Rosie had not survived the surgery, I could not have been more grateful for everything everyone had done, and I meant it. But she did make it (and so did we ;) So, if you are considering veterinarians, and if you are reading this you probably are, I would encourage you to make an appointment for a check-up. The hospital changed ownership and the staff has become more remote. Tried to get an appointment for a sick cat and they proposed waiting more than a week or sent to another office for treatment. Waiting a week for a sick cat? Seems that the new corporate mentality is far cry from the service Dr. Hatch provided. There are alternatives, including a much more modern facility in Lynhurst where the staff is less distant and more sympathic. read more

Thanks Yelp! Best vet I've been to since adopting my golden 4 years ago. Dr. Danforth took the time to answer all of my questions and I could tell she really cared. Rylie is super scared of being at the vet. She did alright with Dr. Danforth and actually gave her kisses. I've only been here once, but I've emailed Dr. Danforth several times with questions and she's always answered promptly and thoroughly. I really appreciate that I can ask a question on the weekend and get an answer. I'm new to NJ and thankful to have found a great vet relatively close to home. read more

If you like going to the DMV or post office you are going to love this place. My husband and I recently moved back to New Jersey after living in nyc for five years. We have two pups and one of them was due for vaccinations. Since we are now full-time nj-er's we were looking for a new vet. I yelped for a couple of days and found Secaucus Animal Hospital. Most of the reviews seemed decent so I made my appointment and came here. Let's start with the walk in the door. There were no other people in the waiting room and my husband and I were the first clients of the day. There were two receptionists. When we walked in the door we were not even greeted with a hello. The male receptionist didn't even look over his computer monitor. We waited about 20 mins to see the vet and vet tech. This first wait wasn't ridiculous (but little did we know that was just the beginning!). The vet and vet tech were nice and knowledgeable enough. Throughout the visit we told the vet and vet tech several times that we needed a prescription for our dogs allergy medication. After we finished the appointment with the vet, the vet tech walked us back to the waiting room. I then again asked the vet tech for the prescription. She told us the receptionist would help us with that.. i waited to pay my bill. The receptionist told us the amount due. And it was close to $400. When we asked to see a breakdown of the bill we were told repeatedly that we could not see a breakdown until we paid it. We paid the bill and the saw the breakdown of the charges. We didn't understand the charges so we asked about it. The male Receptionist shouted something from behind his computer screen explaining part of the bill to us. It was quite embarrassing because the waiting room was now full with dogs and their owners. This $400 bill was for three vaccinations and some gel put into his ears and the pet visit fee itself was close to $100. Coming from the upper east side of manhattan this bill would have cost us between $170 and $250. We paid the bill and asked about the prescription. The receptionist told us that is something the vet tech would help us with. I told her the vet tech told us that she would help us. The receptionist seemed so annoyed with us. She told us to wait. We waited a total of 45 minutes. we waited with our poor dog that had just received three vaccinations and should have been home resting at this point. We were made to wait a whole appointment as the vet took and saw a dog while we waited for someone to simply write out a prescription. The receptionists did not have a care jn the world. Every ten mins when we asked what was going on we were greeted with a sigh from each of them. The prescription finally was written and given to us. Even though my dog takes one pill a day we were only given a prescription for a one month supply with with a couple of refills. I told the receptionist that this was not enough. We waiting while she got in touch with the vet. The vet told her that she would not write the prescription for more. When we asked for a reason why the receptionist told us we would have to wait to speak with her. No way! We left with the inadequate prescription. Story doesn't end there. We lost the paper prescription we waited 45 mins to be written. Ugh, how annoying!! So we call Secaucus Animal Hospital to get a replacement. We had to wait a day for a new one to be written. We asked if they could mail it to us. We were told the fee was $3.50 to mail this single sheet of paper. Like seriously!? We just paid close to $400 and you have the nerve to try to charge us $3.50?! I seriously can't with this place. I am shocked this place is still in business with all the competition around. Save yourself the aggravation and money and go some where else. I'm giving this place 2 stars because the vet was nice and seemingly knowledgeable. I have been lucky over the years to find very nice and knowledgeable vets thankfully. So to me going to this place to see the decent vet is not worth it. I will never ever come back here. read more

On Oct. 23, my sweet cat Olive was over medicated (four shots!) at another vet and she was on death's door for weeks. I took her to three more animal hospitals, seeing a total of six vets, to try to get her well, and my experience with Dr. John Hatch outdid them all. He's truly the Dr. House of animals. His skill, smarts, and most of all compassion, makes him so superior to everyone else I saw during this ordeal. All of the other vets were kind and professional, but Dr. Hatch treated Olive as if she were his own. It's hard to put into words for some reason, to explain just how special he is, but now I know why so many rescue organizers love him. Olive has recovered physically for the most part, but she's been left with a type of PTSD, which she's being treated for now with the help of a cat behaviorist, who Dr. Hatch has been happy to accommodate. I'm so thrilled to have found him, and Olive loves him too! :) Thank you, Dr. Hatch! read more
