I was excited to try Bangkok after hearing SO much about it from the locals. Someone warned me that it's cash only (no ATM there) and also take out only right now. I ordered tofu Pad Thai, which is only of my favorite dishes. I asked for a little spice so the man told me he would do medium heat. Let me tell you, that was some of the spiciest food I've ever put in my mouth. At first, just a little kick in the pants but after several bites I was running to the fridge to guzzle almond milk straight from the carton! So if you like REALLY spicy food, ask for spice! Otherwise I'd recommend just ordering it without. The pad Thai didn't come with the usual garnishes: lime slice, sprouts, ground peanuts, but the sprouts and peanuts were mixed into the shorter than normal rice noodles in a perfect proportional medley. Although it didn't look as pretty as some presentations I've seen, it was absolutely delightful. The tofu was SO good, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The prices were fantastic and despite some comments I've read, the man working was incredibly nice and my order was ready within 20min. Easily best Thai I've had since coming to WallaW for college, possibly best Thai in Eastern WA. Bangkok 103 was closing when I called, and I was surprised when the owner picked up. I didn't get a chance to properly thank them; they were very kind. I asked for Phanang or Kaeng Phet Gai, (chicken curry), spicy, and received a heavenly takeout container as I arrived 10 minutes after. I don't know if I got the red or the panang, or a combination, but whatever it was blew my socks off. Everyone complains about having the curry stowed in a ziploc bag, but what they don't understand is that the food is made with love, and a ziploc doesn't change the taste or cleanliness of it. The curry was thick and had a bunch of galangal (a special ginger) in it. Chicken was cooked well also. Absolutely delicious, and perfect for plugged sinuses and rainy evenings. SUPER good tasting food--the best Pad Thai! Plus, what's not to love about this husband and wife team (just the two of them) who have been serving up great tasting Thai food for years at this same place? After reading the reviews, I called the day before to make reservations, but that didn't seem to be a problem, and then we loaded our pockets with cash (they do accept checks, with proper ID, but not credit cards) and prepared for a possible gruff encounter upon entrance. Instead, we were greeted by the wife (who is also the cook, owner, and tonight served as the waitress, dishwasher, hostess and busser because she was the only one there). Her husband had been called away "to see his mother." Sounds scary to me. This, however, wasn't the first time that I've been here. The fact that I have to drive all the way to College Place from Walla Walla (five minutes) and enter the land of the living dead on Friday after sunset has stopped me from visiting more often. Recently, there has been quite a lot of construction in downtown CP, and it always seems as if there isn't enough street lighting, but the reviews of Nicole H. and Mark H. had me driving the five minutes out of my normal radius for this great tasting food. This place is so unusual. It reminds me a little of Rethray Sekong in Phoenix. Tonight we were one of four tables that were occupied and it is lucky that there weren't any drop-ins as the whole operation was being orchestrated by one person. I know, sometimes there are two people there--one cook and one waiter. On a busy night, when all eight tables are occupied, one person, all alone, could not accomplish this feat! As can always be expected here, the food is divine. We ordered the pad Thai and a pineapple vegetable dish (the name escapes me). Both dishes were full of mouthwatering deliciousness. We devoured the pad Thai and managed to take a little of the pineapple dish home so we could enjoy the flavor in another meal. If you are visiting from out of town then this restaurant will give you an experience that you can tell all your friends about. But first, you have to find it! If you drive by fewer than three times and it is dark out, then you are very adept at sleuthing and you believed the directions on google maps!. There are almost no markings to inform you that you have arrived. The entrance is dimly lit and you may think you are approaching someone's kitchen door. I've been living in Miami for the past two years and have searched and searched for Thai food as good as this little hole-in-the-wall. I have yet to find it. The pad thai is perfect, the green eggplant curry is orgasmic, the thai iced tea is light and sweet... I actually never tried a dish here that I didn't love, and I've had dinner here at least 20 times. The owner/waiter will give suggestions if you ask, and he has yet to recommend a bad dish. Props to this little place for keeping student-friendly prices despite the utter quality of their food. I had the pad Thai for dinner the other night. My sister ordered it and I went to pick it up. Food did take a while to come out. I don't know if I got unlucky but about 10 minutes after eating it (I ate half the portion thank God) my stomach was churning. Had to throw up and was very sick. I've been coming to this delicious place for years, and thought I'd post some tips for dining here (some reviewers have already covered these points, but here we go...) : -- The food here is hands down the best Thai food in the area. -- Cash and checks only. -- Your order can take a really long time to arrive, yes. This place is owned and operated entirely by only two people: the guy who runs the front, and his wife(?) the Thai cook. If you order and it takes forever for your food to show up (happens often), that's why. (Even if there aren't a lot of people there, they're probably working on takeout orders.) -- If you want to eat within a specific time window, you're much better off ordering takeout. Consider calling ahead when it's time for pickup to see if your order is ready. -- The guy in the front can be kind of grumpy sometimes or even seemingly rude. But in my experience, at his core, he's not a mean guy, he just gets really busy and stressed. At the end of the day, he's always fair with you. -- Flip side is when they aren't that busy, the same guy can be incredibly loquacious and friendly with you. Sometimes his wife will even come out and join in. -- Decor here is pretty bad. It's a dingy, and in the need of serious deep cleaning and/or remodeling. But the decor is not the reason to go here. A calculated exercise in curmudgeonry and marital strife disguised as a Thai restaurant in College Place. I haven't been back in a while, but I visited several times in 2007. My first attempt: "Do you have a reservation?" "No." "I thought as much." He then told me that this wasn't going to happen tonight, so I left, made a reservation, and came back later. Because I'm tremendously boring I ordered the pad thai, which I thought was pretty decent, though I'm from Idaho and my standards, by extension, can't be that high. I tried to take people once, and everyone assumed that Bangkok 103 was some sort of non-restaurant business, perhaps a brothel, though I think this was a failing on their part and not the business's, since no one would be bold enough to open a brothel in College Place. The last time I ate here was good times. I got a curry, I think, which I again thought was pretty decent, but the high point of my evening was definitely watching the owner lecture two women on the differences between Indian and Thai curries for about two or three minutes. There are two other Thai places in Walla Walla, now, and I honestly don't know which one I'd recommend, if any. This one can be good times, though. read more

This is the best Thai food that I've had since moving to Eastern Washington. The place is tiny, so reservations are essential (they're closed on Sundays). When you arrive there will be a little card with your name on the table reserved for you so you can seat yourself. The food is prepared by a Thai lady in a regular household kitchen, so if your group is large, be prepared for the food to take a while and trickle out of the kitchen in phases. Your patience will be rewarded! The food is reasonably priced, the menu is impressively large given that the kitchen "staff" is a single person, and the portions are generous. This is my favorite Thai restaurant on the face of the planet, and I've eaten in quite a few including some upscale NY eateries. The food is tasty with the perfect balance between spicy and sweet. The owner seems gruff at first, but when you get to know him he's really a chummy guy. Try to snicker at his initial grumpiness, take it all in stride, and then joke with him, and you'll be in good spirits for the duration of your visit. Remember to make a reservation (the restaurant's small and only has one cook, so making food impromptu is difficult for them), and bring cash and a large appetite. I just ordered take out. When the owner picked up the phone I could barely hear him so I just started talking. I asked him what his most popular chicken dish was and he said there were 16 that are always going out. I tried a second time for little more information but it wasn't very successful, since i could barely hear him. So i asked about veggie/tofu pad thai, but he said pad thai doesn't come with vegetables, only bean sprouts. So I ordered Chicken Pad Thai, Vegetable/Tofu Red Curry, and two Thai iced-tea because I knew they were dishes that almost any Thai place would have. When i got there, the owner was behind the counter and asked if i was there for the take out. He was super friendly! he asked me about the weather, how my day was going; thanked me when i paid the bill; and carried part of my carry-out to my car for me. He even suggested a really common menu item since i was inquiring about the vegetable pad thai. I was so shocked. After all the reviews I was worried he'd be super rude--he was anything but! The food was delicious! the pad thai had a strong, sweet peanut taste to it, absolutely lovely. The curry was a little bit spicy and full of flavor. as an avid Thai food lover, and former hostess of a Thai restaurant. In my opinion the food is alright, nothing that will knock your socks off. Ask for pad prik it was decent but it was unbearable to eat with the heat. and yellow curry, there was only spice barely any favor was unbearable to eat as well. It's not like I'm a person who can't take spices or heat either I love spicy food, but this is something else I'm telling you. But my complaint isn't with the food it's with how the restaurant is managed. Terrible customer service experience when I first called in my order the man answered and seemed bothered to take my order. Once I told him I wanted the curry and the pad prik he didn't understand want i was asking for so he handed it his wife and she had an attitude as well and went on saying they didn't have that dish and I didn't know the number on the menu at the moment so I went on with the curry and thai tea until I got off the phone and went to look at their menu which was there A7 pad prik so I called back and added that to my order. Not once they worn me how spicy it was going to be nor it showed on the menu. My opinion I think they should ask their customers how spicy they want it since the food went to waste sadly. Also the rice wasn't portioned correctly. The next day March 24th I was seeing if there was any type of way to get the dishes remade, due to the fact the food went to waste, I didn't receive my money worth, and I just wasn't satisfied whatsoever. He acted like I was asking for half the business and made it seem like it was my fault, for not knowing those dishes are impossible to eat, then tried to give pointless hindsight advise of putting coconut milk in at my house to balance out the heat.... i hung up and I was over it.. 5 stars don't do this food and unique experience justice! Our family loves Thai food and is often disappointed by the small-town attempts at it. Not here! An unexpected find in Walla Walla and beyond delicious. We enjoyed the charming couple who single-handedly cook and serve as if you were being hosted in their own kitchen. Hospitality was amazing. The wife, who is the cook, grows much of the fresh ingredients used. The dishes are well-flavored and unique. We especially loved the papaya salad and eggplant (unique Thai variety) in green curry. Just leave time for the wait for made-to-order food and some conversation afterwards. My son is very happy to know he has good Thai food a stones throw from his dorm. read more

The owner/waiter/ maitre'd prefers if you make reservation, not because he is a elitist snob but because there is only one cook and one waiter and he prefers to avoid a rush. When I call to make a reservation I like to feign an accent and come up with a quirky name. Immature, I know, but I get a kick when our group shows up and we sit at a table with a little placard that reads "Thor" or "Octavius III." The owner is normally very affable, has a couple good jokes (ask about the Panda Bear and the Irish immigrant), but until you get to know him he may seem to be a bit of a curmudgeon. Our friends made reservations and told me about how the husband and wife team will sometimes kick everyone out of the restaurant if they are fighting, or the food will get spicy the longer the fight ensues and the madder she gets at him. NO CREDIT/DEBIT. (Just to let you know). My boyfriend ordered his combo pad Thai medium. The waiter snickered (which should have been a sign). I ordered mine medium as well. Let me digress and state that I work near 4 Thai food eateries and I eat Thai food at least once a week and I have been to over a dozen Thai food restaurants. At every restaurant have gone to....if I order it medium...the waiter always informs me that it is either Hot Medium or normal medium...always gives me the heads up if they make their food super spicy. Well, lets say when I got my Chicken Pad Thai...it was COVERED in red. I ate about 6 bites, and couldn't eat anymore. Thinking that I was wimpy, I asked the whole table to try a bite...my medium was WAY spicier than my neighbor's medium. It was so inedible that it literally burnt the sides of my tongue and my taste buds. The waiter avoided our table like the plague until we asked for the check. He knew that it was inedible and didn't care. I don't take kindly to restaurants that don't say anything to patrons about the spiciness of the dishes or the fact that she must have made mine last and added more spice on top of the spice that was in the pan. Please save your money and go to the other Thai restaurant in Walla Walla. Avoid this place like the plague. Bad service, bad attitude, and bad food. pros: i think this is the only place to get asian food in college place (panda express doesn't count). cons: inconsistent food quality, consistently bad service. if you live in college place your options for asian cuisine are pretty much limited to just here (unless you want to go downtown). like others have mentioned this is hit or miss. I have met people who had satisfactory experiences here. unfortunately, for me it has always missed. I tried this place several times. it's not just the service, it's not just the food, it's really everything. I will say that sometimes the food is alright. other times it's not. I see it has already been mentioned, but one other thing is that rice is charged per scoop and the price is disproportionate considering that the "scoops" are roughly melon ball sized. OK, so maybe the man who runs the front might be able to get along with a few people on occasion, but generally speaking, he should probably not interact with the general public in a service industry position. If he was gruff but gave good service that's okay. if he gave bad service but was friendly that's also a compromise i might make. but in my experience, he was unnecessarily rude in addition to largely ignoring you except to take the order and charge you a bill. my one star is for the sometimes-delicious food. it could be upgraded if the following changes were ever made. 1) grumpypants guy manages behind the scenes and hires someone part time to interact with customers. 2) nix the "full service restaurant" act and just convert to a food stall or food cart so that everything is to-go. that's trendy these days anyhow. We came several days later to this gem which actually looks pretty trashy. We started with a free surprise, a salad. Who knew what dressing was on it but it was a great start. I was actually giggling because I felt like we were finally at the right Thai place! Next we ordered the chicken satay which was nothing short of savory and sweet and perfectly saucy and juicy. My fiancée and I both decided to order our dishes in medium. We like it hot but medium here is actually pretty hot most other places. On my hot scale of 1-5, I would give their medium a hot rating of a 4. (I've been to maybe a hundred Thai places now so let's say I am a self proclaimed hotness expert). Order the squash red curry. It is something unique here on their specialty menu and their red curry is thicker than most. Also, we almost always will get a pad Thai just as a marker of the basics... This one was perfectly done with just enough sauce and not the usual cheap peanut butter flavor you find at other places with less experience.
