We are Christian, but honestly this felt inappropriate in a restaurant, Then, immediately after the awkward prayer, he asked for us to donate money for families in Thailand and pointed out a cup he had on his cart filled with $20 bills. My family and I went there on a Friday night. We were immediately seated in the back and was not asked if we wanted to sit grill side. Highly disappointing for a hibachi grill restaurant. My daughter and I ordered calamari. It was NOT fresh. At all. Extremely chewy and also had a fishy taste. I was super disappointed. The fried rice and hibachi veggies were the only part of the meal that was good. I ordered an iced tea. When I took a big gulp of the tea with a straw a piece of rice and green onion came up through the straw. Gross. It was very empty for a Friday night. This rating is not a reflection of the quality of the food or the majority of the staff at this restaurant--we have ordered here many times and have always had great experiences. I'm sharing this solely to bring awareness to an incident that took place during our recent visit, in hopes that the owners can address it. We came in with several friends and children for hibachi. Our server was initially friendly but quickly became overly enthusiastic in a way that felt abrasive and uncomfortable. When he returned with his grill equipment, he attached a very loud portable speaker to his iPad and began blasting contemporary Christian music, accompanied by repeated "amens" and "praise God." While not personally offensive to me, it created a very awkward atmosphere for our table and the surrounding diners. Things escalated when, before even starting to cook, he said, "let's all pray for..." and named a political figure. By then, our toddler was overwhelmed and frightened--first by his loud behavior and then by the flames when he finally started the grill. We took her outside to calm her down, only to have the server place his hand on her empty high chair and say he would pray for her because "this has never happened with other kids." At that point, we decided to leave. I was genuinely appalled by how unprofessional this was. Again, this is not intended as a criticism of the restaurant as a whole or even a personal attack on the server. I've been here a handful of times, tonight will be the last. Me, my husband and our 4 kids (11 years and younger) were seated in the bar. Which was already an odd choice since the restaurant was completely empty.. and we got to watch Madden 2024 being played on their tv. We weren't offered anything to drink besides water- which never got refilled. The sushi was overloaded with avocado to the point where I couldn't eat it. The edamame was cold. The soup was mediocre at best. The yum yum sauce in our salad was almost completely watered down. And they charged us an 18% gratuity fee for my "large group" so I was up charged for having 4 children this has literally only happened at 1 other place which I also will never go back to. Word to the restaurant: DO NOT serve Teriyaki with baby corn and squishy vegetables! Seriously, the only thing Japanese about their food is the sushi and the Sake, otherwise a Chinese buffet interpretation of Japanese ideas. Horrible food. Bad service and stinky atmosphere. Tempura portion was pretty large, but after taking a few bites its pretty clear why.. there's a TON of batter/breading on the veg, like 1/2"+ all around. So much to the point that some of the batter inside didn't feel completely cooked, or just tasted oily. Steak and Scallop teppanyaki was cooked in the back since there was no hibachi chefs performing table-side, which was totally fine. The meats were cooked well and to my asking; medium rare/rare for the steak, scallops not cooked to death. Not sure what the two sauces were that came with it; seemed like mayo-y salad dressing. Came in on a Saturday afternoon after graduation, group of 21. Horrible service!!!! A group of 7 came in after us got service and their food at least 30 minutes before us. Did not even get our hot tea until 57 minutes after we ordered. Over an hour later our supposedly hot food is barely even warm when served, and the waitress didn't know who the order belonged to who when she specifically took the order in going down the line without going out of order. Salad came 15 minutes after the meal is served. At this point I can go on and on, but needless to say I do not recommend this place when service is this terrible. YUM!!! I was weary about getting the hibachi because of the reviews (even though almost all of them are from many years ago) but I decided to go for it anyway. I got the shrimp and scallop hibachi with yum yum sauce and they nailed it!!! My dinner was NOT good! I sat at the sushi bar and ordered toro nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, and chicken fried rice (which came with miso soup and salad). I also ordered hot tea to drink. The spicy tuna roll is a simple classic and pretty hard to screw up but this was the worst one I have ever had. It was an unnatural extremely bright red color and the fish was warm (I hope I don't get sick). I also did not like that they added tempura flakes to the inside of the roll. I only ate a couple of pieces and left the rest. The toro nigiri was not tender like it should be (I could not bite through it) and the rice did not taste fresh. The ginger was dirty with bits of some other sort of food or condiment that had gotten mixed in (dirty food prep - I really hope I don't get sick). The wasabi was lazily thrown onto the plate in a messy way. The salad had brown wilted lettuce in it and a very giant dollop of dressing slapped on top. The miso soup tasted like it came out of a package that you can buy at the grocery store. The tea did not arrive until AFTER my soup, salad, and sushi. Not the best service. I tried to ask one of the guys behind the sushi bar if the tamago was made in-house and he was too busy texting on his phone and didn't hear me. The waitress was passing by and asked if I was talking to her. When I asked her the same question she first didn't know what tamago was. When I told her that it is egg she said she thinks that they buy it pre-made. The chicken fried rice was the worst of all. The chicken was sour. The vegetables looked like they came out of a frozen bag of peas and carrots. The rice was thickly coated with some sort of brown sauce. I had 3 bites and couldn't eat anymore. The server did a pretty good job in getting our order, bringing food out, and checking on us. The atmosphere was quiet but there were not a lot of patrons in there. Good service with friendly staff. The chef has some good tricks when cooking your food. Watch out for his squirt bottle full of saki. He will squirt it right in your mouth. The food is pretty decent. Called in an order to feed 13 people. Many children but many with large appetites. Total bill was around $250 which I do not consider bad. The food was good; however, we did not get all of it. We were missing 2 rolls, all the broth for 2 Ramen, and the Pad Thai. Due to how busy the place was, they turned off their phones. If I could only say one thing it would be "Don't go here for sushi.", but I have more than 1 reason. My friend decided to take us here for some lunch today, and I haven't had sushi in over a year. Which I LOVE. Normally I judge a new joint by it's spider sushi roll. This was not available, no biggie. Neither was Masago or Uni Nigiri sushi. I've never been to a sushi joint without Masago. My friend got a Hibachi style (no hibachi chef posted on sign at door) meal. We shared the fried calimari. Which the meat was excellent. I normally don't care for it, turns out I have only tried it overcooked. However it was lacking flavor beyond that. The Panko style breading was cooked well but lacking flavor. It was also a bit thick/rough on the mouth. The dip was good. Nothing good to say for my portion. I ordered from the lunch time sushi menu. 3 rolls. I ate 1 piece of each roll and pushed my plate away. The New York roll with fried salmon skin was not a pleasant texture, and the salmon skin was not fried crispy, it was soft and limp. The Tuna in the Tuna roll was almost room temperature. There was nothing pleasant about the experience. The meat was not fresh, and given it's temperature and condition of my next roll. I did not want to risk getting sick, just for the sake of eating something I ordered. The Yellowtail Tuna roll. Talk about a disappointment. I deem it either NOT yellowtail, or more likely. BAD Yellowtail. It is supposed to be a bright whitish color with tints of pink. This meat was YELLOW. It should have a firm crisp bite to it. Similar to the bite of properly cooked shrimp. This meat was flaky. There was no crisp fresh bite that I was so looking forward to. Oh and it was also warm like the tuna in the tuna roll. As in barely colder than room temperature on the back of my finger. Back to my friends meal. Hibachi. Not great at all. The the chicken fried rice had a very odd texture. It had some bite as if it were undercooked, but was dry and grainy as if it was 2 days old and microwaved. He claimed the flavors of everything had a lot of salt, but the flavors were off/lacking. 3 rolls. 1 was not pleasant enough to eat. The other 2 were possibly food hazards. I politely and simply stated that I did not enjoy it when I was asked if I wanted to have them make something else. I declined and instead ordered more sake. Which was very good I might add. But I was not going to trust another item that came out of that sushi kitchen, and had already tasted the results of the rest of the kitchen. So I was not interested in a replacement meal. At the end when my friend was finished with his meal. They actually had the nerve to ask me if I didn't enjoy my sushi because it had raw fish. I didn't know if I should laugh or scoff in response before my friend was dismissing the absurdity. I was trying to be humble and polite with my complaints when asked. The plate would have given me food sickness and I didn't want to say it. I love sushi. I introduce others to sushi. Not a connoisseur. But what I know about sushi, I KNOW ABOUT SUSHI. What sums up the experience perfectly to make sure we will NEVER come back though. They never offered to refund my meal, or even a discount! I had 1 piece of each sushi roll that each had 6-8 pieces. They charged my friend (lucky for them) FULL PRICE! This is what infuriates me beyond the belief that I was served luke warm sushi meat. I've never asked to have a full meal refunded before in my life, but I expected it here. At the very least a 50% discount should be entitled here if not a full refund. I did NOT eat the food. I didn't eat half of it and change my mind. I tried one bite sized piece of each thing I ordered and pushed my plate away. I was disgusted to the point of not wanting anything else from the facility. I was polite throughout the entire experience, as it was my friends treat. If it were me paying however, THAT CHECK WOULD HAVE CREATED A SCENE. Not that it would have been too bad considering the place was so empty the waitresses were leaned back chatting in the bar when we came in. I think 1 other person/group came in during the entire meal. They must have been really busy before though. The dirty dishes cart pushed against the wall on your way out the door was stacked with nasty dishes. I guess they are out of dishwashers AND hibachi chefs. So it was just a disgusting from first bite, all the way to the door. To throw some less important complaints on the platter here. Why was there a salad in my dumpling soup? There was a handful of literal salad in it. Not just green onions, but lettuce! The soup was good, dumplings were bland. The wasabi was a giant ball that I thought was a funny portion size. But I mixed it in the soy sauce and could barely taste it, explains why it has so much. The ginger also had shavings that had brownish portions. There is a Benihana style table area where the chefs cook (and amuse and delight and wow) right in front of you. We will look forward to trying that next. We ordered one of the sushi appetizers and Hibachi main dishes as we really wanted to try their 'grilled' items. The meal started with a typical Japanese salad - plain lettuce with dressing. But wait...this dressing was awesome. Savory, flavorful...made you wish there was more lettuce and dressing. The lettuce was a wee bit soggy in places, but the dressing was great so we decided to overlook that minor detail. Then came mushroom soup. Can you say, slurp, slurp, slurp? The soup was gone for us all in seconds. Everyone inhaled it. Light, flavorful broth with bits of mushroom and green onion. Perfect! Then came our appetizer. Crisp, juicy cucumber slices rolled around delicate crab meat and avocado floating in a salty sweet sauce. Really different. Again, loved by all at the table. Next came our Hibachi dinners. I was excited to try out this new hibachi/sushi restaurant so I recently went there for a business lunch. While it looks very nice inside and the wait staff were very good, the food is a disappointment. I ordered their lunch bento, teriyaki chicken, since it tends to show me how both their kitchen and sushi bar work as it includes a sushi roll, fried gyoza and the grilled teriyaki chicken. While the sushi was a tasty California roll with decent sushi rice, I noticed the pieces looked half the size of normal sushi. I'm used to the sushi cylinders being about 1" high, these were more like 1/2" or so high. The two pieces of gyoza were also pretty small and not terribly tasty; more like something you'd get frozen at Grocery Outlet IMHO. The main course, teriyaki chicken, was also a puny portion (I'm seeing a trend here) and sat on a pile of random cooked veggies. Now I have seen this done before with cooked onions but those give the dish some flavor while these veggies were just veggies taking the place of chicken. I swear the chicken had been boiled at some point and then maybe thrown on a grill for some minor color but it certainly wasn't freshly grilled. Its teriyaki sauce was pretty mediocre and there wasn't much of it. Overall, a pretty mediocre bento dish with smallish portions for the $$.
