This place came highly recommended to me from a new lady friend, and I have to say I left thoroughly unimpressed. It's a nice looking venue with typical accoutrement and an all female wait staff dressed in black. I was asked if I was a new customer, and when I responded that I was, there was no follow up as typically happens at nicer restaurants. That kind of service was echoed later. I ordered Thai dumplings and house combination yellow curry. The dumplings were decent, and the yellow curry had great flavor, but the vegetables were cut too large and the proteins were overcooked. Except for coloration, I couldn't distinguish the beef from the chicken. But the clincher for me was when the manager came out and went from table to table, greeting customers, welcoming them to the restaurant. And he completely ignored me. Yes, I was the only African-American customer in sight, and he blew right past me. The food was good enough that I'd be willing to come back except for that gesture by the manager. I don't beg people to take my money who act like they don't want me around. P.S. I have to concede I saw one African-American woman leaving as I arrived, and another was leaving with a to-go order as I pulled away in my car, but neither ate inside the restaurant. Make of that what you will. Also, when I was seated, the waitress informed me that I would need to scan a QR code to see the actual prices for the items listed on the menu. Still one of my favorite places to eat in town! We travel alot and have tried many Thai places. Bangkok is still outstanding in my book. Fresh ingredients, great portion sizes, and excellent service every time! The owners and staff are very nice! They have a variety of Thai and Japanese dishes and a very good selection of sushi as well. We typically order the crunchy shrimp, unagi dreaming and the volcano roll. All are very good and fresh. We get the beef and shrimp pho and it is usually so big and yummy! Another favorite is their chicken wings and papaya salad but I like it Laos style, and they'll make it just the way I like it! We have also had many parties in their party room and they are always so accommodating. Bangkok is one of the few restaurants in Spartanburg that we frequently come back to! read more

The restaurant adds subtle touches like roasting the peppers in the entres that makes these dishes next level. This isn't your corner Thai place. We had the cashew shrimp, fresh rolls, lettuce wraps, pad Thai, drunken noodles, teriyaki chicken, tiger rolls, Tom kah soup, and bang shrimp and every single dish was delicious and made to order. I ordered Bangkok the day after Mother's Day to celebrate for my mom. Everything seems fine until we got home and realized how small the portions of our food. We ordered the Bangkok duck which was $17.99 for a small. 7 small pieces of duck and the rest was vegetables. I called them and asked because I have ordered before and it wasn't the same. The lady told me it's how their small half duck. Which is not half. I'm so disappointed because I spend over $50 and all of the food was not good. Good solid Thai fare. My coworker had the pho and enjoyed it a lot. I had the green curry with scallops. Yum. The only thing weird is they bring fried wantons and no sauce. Bangkok Thai is definitely out favorite Thai restaurant in the Spartanburg area. I have had the red curry and drunken noodles several times and have never been disappointed. Pretty disappointing experience. When I placed my order I respectfully asked for clarification about animal products and explained I don't eat animal products of any kind. The waitress told me that the only item on the entire menu that does not have fish sauce is the fried rice and having an item prepared without fish sauce was not possible. I've never had curry with fish sauce but ordered based on her feedback. My fried rice arrived full of egg. Perhaps I could have explained my dietary restrictions better but I've never had this occur before. Everyone else enjoyed their meal so I am giving it a 3/5 but for anyone who is vegan or has dietary restrictions they want respected be aware. I will not be returning. read more

Got sushi to go. I honestly cannot fathom how this place doesn't have a two star rating. I guess I am impart to blame because I got sushi to go. Also, when I ordered they had said the sushi chef was out. This rating is not heavily based on the quality of the roll, but rather the quality of the fish used. The "spicy tuna sashimi" was a slice of gray tuna with a line of Sriracha down it. The shrimp was rubbery and had a smell/flavor that screamed food poisoning. I didn't eat either of those. The rainbow roll was the of grocery store (Harris Teeter) quality. That said, we did not try the Thai/hot food from the kitchen. Went here once and it might be the only time. Atmosphere was good, they were very patient with the 4 kids under 6 that we brought, and everyone else enjoyed their meal. So I gave it 3 stars. Advise- just don't order the Japanese dishes there. I ordered the simple teriyaki beef (to help my grandmother feel more at ease with this place.) It wasn't good at all. It tasted ok, but it was still the tiniest bit frozen in the middle. Like it was frozen and they didn't quite cook it long enough. Very disappointed. My daughter ordered the pad thai.
