Don't let the name Hunan K scare you away. This restaurant serves Americanized Chinese, since after all, this. is. SPARTAAA(nburg). So, you may ask, what does a Chinese person order at an Americanized Chinese restaurant. Do I ask them to do some off-menu creation that more closely mirrors authentic Chinese food? Honestly, I'd never do that. Unless it's a spot like In-n-Out, I'm not one to participate in the secret menu shenanigans. No, I simply get the General Tso's Chicken or Sweet and Sour Chicken that anybody else gets. At just over $10 outside of lunch hours, prices are roughly in-line with what we find anywhere else these days. The "combo" version of these meals come with an eggroll, which is terrific. I... really should order one of their healthier options, but alas, I'm determined to remain fat forever or something. I have dined at Hunan K way too many times, and I'll probably average at least 1-2 visits per week for the rest of my time in my apartment. The food by no means hits greatness, but it's a very good option for the price range. chicken chow mein is no longer chicken chow mein.... it was a plastic tub full of mushy bland cabbage and onions....no flavor and no chicken...awful!!!!! not the same restaurant....i would gladly pay more for the food it used to be!!! read more

We ordered lo mien and egg rolls (roasted pork). Lo mien was very greasy making it difficult to eat. There were a few greens which were unidentifiable and appeared to be old and I picked these out of the dish fearing the age of the green? The egg rolls were also very greasy and part of it came apart showing the inner layer as a beige color as though it didn't cook/fry all the way through. Walked in and ordered food close to closing and they were very quick. I didn't feel rushed even though I walked in pretty late with an order for 4 people. The food was great and we didn't receive one bad thing. The sesame chicken was some of the best I've ordered. Would definitely order from here again! read more

This place appears to have new management and staff and the food is now horrible! I have ate here for years and now it is inedible. I ordered egg fu yong, fried rice and cheese wontons. The eggs were way overcooked and burnt. The wontons were different than usual and had a nasty sharp cheese taste and the "fried rice" was steamed with zero flavor. I threw it all away and took the $32 loss because I will NEVER return. This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my entire life!!!! read more

I used to enjoy the food here back when I was in high school (maybe my tastes have changed) but I didn't find my meal to be tasty. I ordered to go on a Sunday evening - plain lo mein and cream cheese wontons. I remember the cream cheese wontons being delicious but they were bland. It heavily relied on the sweet and sour sauce but that itself is bland and I'm not usually a fan of the sauce. Maybe it was my fault for getting plain lo mein (no meat or vegetables, just plain old noodles in the sauce). I've gotten plain lo mein from another place and it was good so I wasn't happy with this. Yelp is usually reliable but in our case, never for Asian cuisine. So glad we broke the losing streak with this one. I'm not a lover of Chinese deep fried dishes, as the quality of the proteins are always suspect. My go to dishes are usually just sautéed in the wok. I ordered a spring roll and a chef special which consisted of vegetables, jumbo shrimp, chicken and beef in a spicy garlic sauce. I forgot to say spicy please, so as usual there was little heat to the dish. Restaurant owners, cooks and chefs have to realize that the American palate has changed and that there are quite a few of us that can not only handle a higher spice level but prefer it. That said, the dish was really well done. All the proteins were tender and the shrimp, which were particularly large and plump, required a knife to cut in half. The vegetables were all crisp yet cooked through enough to enjoy. The slightly sweet sauce was perfectly balanced, there was no soy sauce, hoisin, or some other potent ingredient screaming out to be heard. The spring roll rocked. I really didn't think that this small crispy roll would pack so much flavor. After a bite, I noticed part of a wood eared mushroom peeking out. Certainly not a common add on to mass produced spring rolls. The only miss was an order of boneless ribs. The sauce was ok, but the pork had absolutely no porky flavor, and it was clear that the meat was not seasoned before being sauced. A sure way to result in bland food. If lived in the area, I would make it my mission to eat the menu but alas, we are too far away to enjoy that kind of a conquest. read more

This chiniese resturant is the only place my GF like. She normaly hates chinies food. She had ordered the veg in garlic suase and was suprrised withe the result. I was not too happy with my gen tso, it was soggy and too much suase. i dougt to was made fresh. Too bad. the people where very nice. read more

Hunan K is incredibly authentic. If authenticity does not scare you, I recommend Hunan. My favorite aspect of this restaurant is how fresh the bean sprouts are. The fried rice is yummy and the seafood soup was very mild on my palate and left me full and happy. read more

Absolutely terrible... I tried this place out because it was on the way to work and had decent reviews. I got the general tsos.. the sauce was the color of bbq, tasted burnt with some chili flakes in it. The egg rolls tasted like old oil and were soaked with grease. I've been eating from this restaurant for years. Tonight, I had the pepper steak with onions. As usual, they did a great job. Although there is sometimes a language barrier but the service is always pleasant. I can actually count the times I had a subpar meal from there.
