This newly opened gem fills a much-needed gap in Mitchell and Yancey counties: an affordable, good quality asian lunch spot, that doubles as a dinner restaurant with Thai and Japanese dishes, including good sushi! I've only been there once, so far, considering they just opened this week. I started with the spicy tuna salad, and it was full of beautiful chunks that I THOUGHT were diced tomatoes at first, the kimchi sauce and accoutrements were very satisfying. Because it was my first time there, I also ordered pad see ew, to try their hot food. The crab Rangoon appetizer was so light, crunchy, and flavorful, I wanted more. The food was average but the service was below average. We had a very tired and hungry 20 month old with us and when I asked if they happen to serve fries the waitress laughed at me in a very rude way and continued to speak rude the rest of the time making us rush in our ordering. The food was brought out randomly with some of our table receiving their plates 20 minutes before others. We also never received 2 of our sushi rolls and had to inquire about it. We've eaten here several times and everything has been very good. It has two sides to the menu--one is Thai and one is sushi. We have only tried to Thai menu, but it is excellent. The portions are generous, the quality is high, and it's very tasty. The ambiance and service are good as well. The hours are a little strange, opening at 2pm on Saturdays. The sign says they close at 8pm, but we heard them telling people at 7:20 that they were doing take out only, so get there before 7pm to be sure you can dine in. read more

So the good is great and the service is fine. The problem is that they close up whenever they want/ need to and simply put a note on the door apologizing for any inconvenience. The food was awesome. My boyfriend and I got the miso soup to start and it was yummy. We also got the lava roll. It was one of my favorite rolls I've tried. I wish I would have taken a picture but it was worth the price. I would re order 100%! We also got the chicken pineapple fried rice and that too was delicious. The portion was a good size. The Pad Thai was delicious and our server Emma was so pleasant and efficient. We received our food quickly and ended up loving the Shumai so much that we ordered a second dish. We have eaten here three separate times and have had trouble each time. The first time we ate there, we enjoyed our dinner and we each had three cans of soda to drink. They had newly opened and we had no idea how much the drinks cost until we got our bill. The cans of soda were $3.00 each, which came to an unexpected $18.00 added onto our bill. The second time we ate there, we got our food and then no one ever came back to check on us or offer refills. Our server was Emma. We ate there today and Emma was our waitress again. My husband got water and I ordered unsweetened tea and asked for artificial sweeteners. When she brought our drinks, she forgot to bring the sweeteners. I nicely asked for them again. She never brought them. The kitchen staff brought out our meal and we began to eat. After that, no one ever came back to the table to check on us. Had Emma chosen to stop by to check on us, I would've one again asked for the sweeteners. I never touched my tea and had to take some sips of my husband's water. Once we were done with our meal, Emma came to the table to take the plates. I asked her to remove the tea from the bill due to the fact she never provided the sweeteners and I never drank the tea. All she responded with is, "okay." When she brought the bill, she had taken that charge off. She laid the ticket down on the table and never apologized. When my husband was signing the ticket, she off handedly said she was sorry. I feel as if that was a very insincere apology and she was hoping she would still get a nice tip. It was VERY obvious she didn't care at all about what happened. We have given this place three tries and have now decided we won't return. read more

We have been waiting for this place to open for months. We heard there was going to be an amazing authentic Thai chef and then heard he was fired not sure what happened. The most important things to us are: good quality produce for example the that place in Banner Elk uses organic tofu. cleanliness in the kitchen and good portion sizes. We will have to go back to get a better idea of these things. Right now the servers were nice, the first impression was pretty clean (did not look in the kitchen yet) we have not asked about the produce yet, and the portion sizes were very small for Thai. $18 for a bowl. At our other favorite Thai places similar prices but very large plates of food so that was disappointing. But they are new and still have time to improve. Hopefully they will source quality ingredients and maybe there portion seizes bigger, fingers crossed . We definitely need it in this town!
