Recently however, this restaurant popped up in the Rewards Dining Program portal, allowing me to get airline miles per dollar in addition to my regular credit card miles. Slightly bland, but this allows you to season to taste. In a sea of phở, bánh mì, and cơm tấm restaurants, having a place offer bánh canh is a good addition to the Vietnamese food scene in Houston. It's a random hole in the wall place, but I don't think you'll be disappointed. There were only two servers working there when I came on a Friday afternoon, before the dinner hour. I am not over exaggerating when I say this... Hands down the BEST pork chop I ever had... as a whole dish, the pork chop is the highlight of it. I only got like 3 small chunks of crab meat & the ones I tasted weren't very good either. Then to top it off, they gave me 1 measly shrimp. To be honest, I could've gotten at least two, but the one I got was pretty big so I guess it wasn't that bad. What helped out the broth were their fried shallots, I just enjoy the taste and smell of it. Overall, food was alright/decent. Service was good-ish. Honestly if I had to choose my favorite udon place (within Houston of course), I would pick Banh Canh Tom Cua over Ishin (Mike Tran's Japanese Udon joint) any day. The menu actually has a huge variety of dishes, but are you really gunna come to a place and not try the very dish they named their restaurant after? The udon dishes, or "Banh Canh", all use the same soup base, just with different ingredients added. The soft noodles went perfect with the pork ribs, pork legs, and the sprinkle of green onions and fried shallots on top (no seafood in my bowl). The soup is a bit thick, like eggdrop soup, and had just the right amount of flavor. A rather cleansing taste. It's a dish that will warm up your stomach right away. The staff here are attentive and friendly. Me and my family were seated pretty quickly when we walked in. The place is pretty clean as well. I did appreciate them having their AC on a cooler setting than most places in SW. Sadly some Asian places don't set the thermostat down. The restrooms were clean at this place. The banh canh had good flavor but I felt lacked much protein. It needed more seafood/ meat. The com tam thit, tom and ga was very good but they do not have cha or bi here.
