I'm going to start backwards on my review today. If there is one thing I don't not like it is for gratuities to be added on and not inform the customer. I literally tipped 35% on my lunch that was just ok and for service that was less than friendly today. Yes that's partly on me because I just paid and didn't check my ticket but I mean who expects it to be added on for a party of 3. So moving on, we were in a search for an amazing Cuban sandwich and this place had good reviews. The bread they bring to the table is really good, the empanadas were tasty and the sandwich was just ok. The two men working seemed more interested in the soccer game on tv than anything else and I was just overall disappointed. We were the only people in there, maybe that was our sign, who knows. What a gem ! Spanish cuisine with a Spanish chef. We have been looking for a traditional paella plate and there we are ! We chose the seafood option but they also offer many others. Look at the generous shrimps they cooked ! Plenty for the 4 of us and even leftovers. They also offer many diverse tapas. This time we got to have tortillas and they were tasty. The chef came out and shared a bit of his story with our table. Very friendly and really passionate in sharing his cooking. The restaurant is simply decorated with paintings and you'll recognize some key spots from Spain. Area is good enough for small and bigger parties. Parking is ample too. I'm a little sad that it requires a bit of drive, coming from Houston. We submitted a request for the chef to move closer and/or open a second location in Houston. To be continued ! Just visited the new location tonight and loved it. The food was great, the waiter and staff was amazing, and the new building is nice. I unfortunately never got to visit their previous location, but them moving to the area was a wonderful surprise. As a Spaniard it's nice to have a Spanish restaurant in the area, let alone in Houston. Especially after so many have come and gone. We had some croquetas, a tortilla, the seafood paella, and flan. It was all really good. I can't wait to go back and try more. read more

Why 5 stars? Because this was my favorite Cuban food in Texas so far. --- --- --- After living in Tampa for nearly 15 years, I've eaten enough Cuban food to become Cuban. I think that's how that works? Since moving to Texas, the amount of Cuban restaurants has been cut by approximately 98%, and the few restaurants I've found just don't compare. It's similar to Mexican food in Tampa - there are basically two good places and they are both owned by the same person. I planned on ordering a couple Cuban sandwiches and calling it a day, but when I was looking at the menu, I noticed paella. It said to please allow 25 minutes to prepare, so I was heavily debating whether to actually order it. I looked up paella within the reviews and noticed a pretty universal love for it. And I overheard an employee telling a patron how good the paella was. So I dove in and took the paella plunge. The bad news is that 25 minutes actually turned out to be an hour. I ended up just placing the order and then heading back to my parent's house to wait for it. While the wait time was kind of crazy, it was pretty solid paella. I've had better, but not much better. And the Cuban Sandwiches were also the best I've had in Texas. Again, not as good as Florida, but close. The bread was much thicker than any I found in Florida, even after being pressed. We ordered plantains and a guava cheesecake for dessert and both were great. The cheesecake was very unique - its texture was similar to some kind of soufflé, which I did not expect. It was heavy and rich, so my mom and I didn't even finish one slice when sharing it. Granted, I just ate a whole serving of paella, a very thick 1/2 of a Cuban sandwich and several plantains, so maybe that contributed. Kudos to Mr Sabor for bringing the Cuban flavor to Texas. Even if they had to borrow Paella from Spain, they did a great version of it. read more

This place was an unexpected find. My friend brought me and other friends in and we were pleasantly surprised. The empanadas and croquettes were good, though I preferred the empanadas more. We also ordered extra plantains because we cold not get enough. The cuban sandwich was sooooo good. The bread was nice and toasty and the insides were nicely warmed. The sandwich is also larger than you think, I could not finish one on my own. Will definitely be returning because I want to try the paella! read more

I'm giving it 3 stars based on my entire experience, not just the food. First and foremost, this is a hole in a wall Spanish - Cuban experience in Webster that I am grateful it is there next to my parents place. However the food kind of fell short. You walk in and it decked out with plants and photos of Cuba. I was really excited about this place! Our server greeted us but he did not seem excited, like at all. It was kind of disappointing because we expressed excitement, sharing that our family was from Cuba but he did not seem interested lol. So that kind of ruined the time there. I ordered the arroz con pollo and it was pretty good except the salt fell short. I tried the other dishes and was impressed with the ropa vieja and how flavorful it was. The picadillo had an interesting taste I could not get behind. My mom's Cuban sandwich was thick and the bread was overriding the flavors inside. I ordered the Seafood Paella and a takeout of Flan this past Wednesday night. Both were very delicious, juicy, contained good ingredients and were authentic. The entree had a mild, but tasty rice with a great amount of moisture. The saffron note and use of some tomato aroma seemed noticeable and the meal had a lot of various shellfish. The shrimp, prawns, mussels, clams and squid were all very fresh, thoroughly cooked and tasty making a great match with the rice. As for the takeout flan, I have to say it was the best flan I ever had. I am picky about flan, bc I've had several decent to good ones, but not exceptionally great like this one here since 2011 when I got it from Cafe Red Onion when they were still in Houston. This flan was amazing, ideal in sweetness and moisture being very tasty with supple use of egg yolks, sugar, etc. I would recommend this to anyone. I'm very excited to have a really good Spanish restaurant in the East Side. They also serve Cuban food which I haven't tried. Everything we've sampled --paella, Spanish tortilla, patatas bravas, ensalada rusa, y mas--has been delicious and authentic. Where do I start? I was out on this side of town and decided to look up a Cuban restaurant and to my surprise I was within two miles of this place and thought to myself that it would be good to try some Cuban food. I arrived at the location and I should've known by the fact that the place was empty that this was not going to be a good experience. Also another sign that this place was not going to be good is the flashing lights on the windows that made this place look like a brothel. I decided to go in, contrary to my better judgement and checked in the menu. I was surprised at the prices, which were on the high side for Cuban sandwiches, around $14-15 dollars. I ordered a cafe con leche and several empanadas and pastries, hoping to get a good taste of Cuba. What I got instead was pastries that I swear came out of a Goya frozen box that you find at the grocery store. How doi know? I've bought these pastries at the frozen section of my grocery store. Also the fact that it was super hot in areas and cold in others told me that this was microwaved from the box. Another thing that I found incredibly sleazy and indicative of the quality of this place is that they automatically add a tip to the check without telling you. It was only two of us therefore I don't understand how they add a tip without telling you. I guess they need to do this because they know most people will not come back to this place therefore they need to make a few extra dollars while they have someone there. I really feel bad for this side of town if this is the only exposure to Cuban food they have. Trust me, this place is garbage. You're better off eating at taco bell. Go on to Houston around Hwy 6 Bear Creek area and try some real Cuban places. I would be surprised to see this place in business in two years. Overall what would I say? This is by no means a place I recommend as the food is no where near authentic or even of good quality. Save your money and seek something of higher quality such as Taco Bell or go to HEB and get the frozen Goya Cuban food there. It's the same stuff they're serving here. read more

Great Spanish food. The paella is really good and made in the tradditional way. The Sangria was also very good! My only recommendation is towards the end with teh bill. The service gratuiti was automatically added which I didn't noticed until I review the bill after paying it, so I ended up giving more gratuiti than what I should. I did return a couple of times after teh firs one as I really loved the food and in teh otehr visits I re--read teh bill to ensure I didn't double-tip. Just be aware of that and enjoy the tastefull food!. read more

My Strategy when trying new restaurants is to go hungry so that the meal would be honest with my taste buds. Was excited when I initially found this authentic Restaurant boasting cuisines from Spain & Cuba. My review will be pretty short and direct. I was not pleased with presentation or what was received. Ordered to-go, dear host when customers ask questions sell them on your best sellers. Garlic shrimp for the pricing was absurd was given a little bit of shrimp and sides looked as if the plate was empty. Lets just say as a cook who takes pride in every dish I couldn't believe they gave a meal like this to a customer. Their chicken in creole sauce was horrible and an insult to creole cult my picture will show why. It literally tasted like it was cooked with lemon juice absolutely no flavor. I'm only glad that I order the soupa de Pollo or else my day would have been worse. The cheese cake although tasty after removing the burnt outer layer. Again I am baffled that this was even served to anyone to the point where I now find myself searching the web for Spaniard/ Cuban dessert to see if being served burnt is a thing. All in all between service, presentation and food quality 2 Stars at best. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I wanted delicious Cuban food and went way out of my way to track this place down. I went early (before lunch) and no one was there as to be expected. The waitress was extremely nice and prompt to greet, seat and take my order. The location was in a pretty busy area and at the end of a strip. Very clean and nice. The waitress brought me 4 small slices of toasted/grilled bread with a side of aioli...or straight up mayo acting as aioli. The bread was fresh and a nice simple starter. I ordered the Masas de Cerdo con mojo - Pork chunks with Cuban creole mojo, black beans, rice and plantains. The plate came out and looked nice, not the way I have had it before, but a nice presentation (I wish I would have taken a picture.) The black beans were in a bowl, the pork was in a dish with very little liquid and the rice was nicely plated in the middle with the plantains fanned out next to it. There was also a rust orange sauce drizzled on the plate. The rice was fine. The beans were ok, nothing that I would order again. The plantains must have been super ripe because they tasted exactly like bananas. The pork, what a mess. It was dry and overcooked. The sauce tasted like they had only squeezed lemon in some cooking juices, not the tangy sour orange that I expected. The drizzled sauce on the plate really did nothing for the dish. I could not taste garlic in the least bit and had to track down a salt shaker. I ate a couple of different size chunks of pork to see if my first bite was an outlier. They all tasted the same, dry and plain. I poured the little juice off of the pork onto the rice and tried it, but no punch that I expect from this dish. One thing that did irritate me, they have a sign about one check per table and a 15% gratuity, I assumed that meant for large parties. When I got my check, the subtotal was $20 with $1.45 tax and a $3 service fee totaling $24.45 (diet coke also in this total $3.50). I went to the counter to pay and when I got my receipt to sign, I had a choice of - No Tip, 15%, 20% or 25%. Why put that on there if you have already charged me for a tip? I am a traditional 20% tipper, if you charge me, a single customer, a 15% "service fee", that is what you are going to get. If I had not checked my ticket, I would have ended up unintentionally giving a 35% tip. My favorite thing to order when I get Cuban food is pork, so there is really no reason for me to go back. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem amongst Spanish cuisine. Definitely on the pricer side but most worthwhile. The atmosphere is amazing and rustic. The list of food is huge and definitely try them all if you ever have the chance but my favorite item is the sangria! It is so fresh it is crazy. They forgot to include the congri, there was no dipping sauce for the yuca fritas (which were chewy, btw), and the ropa vieja is the worst I've ever had in my life. It tasted like ketchup. I married into a food-loving Cuban/Spanish family and Mr. Sabor gets their seal of approval for authenticity. As for me - I just know the food is delicious. Want paella? They have 4 versions plus fidegua, which has noodles instead of rice. Cuban sandwich or croquettes? They've got you covered. If you love seafood, you need to come here for excellent Spanish shrimp and squid. Even a simple meatball dish has a sauce that made me want to lick the plate. Save room for the flan or the guava cheesecake. They are both excellent choices and go nicely with a cup of espresso. This family-owned business is now our family's favorite.
