Came here a 2nd time. The meat quality and portion was small but again the prices are unbeatable for an overall portion size for their com dac biet. The food came out warm and not hot was my concern.

I always get mostly togo orders due to my significant other never has a few minutes to spare on being on a waitlist thus we made most places to have it on the go its going to set us up to order ahead before going in, it's always a positive experience here whether you want to dine in even on weekdays there's a crowd of at least 15 people sitting down having a good time with the limited space but you got a few big screens watching while you wait for service! there are times when you get your special pho orders togo the chicken I request only to be all white ( up charged) now but never before so I believe it's an increase maybe it's inflation but still the quality is more what I keep on returning for. I love that any rice plate you get to choose up to 4 choices. It came out great even in togo boxes. What I see almost every other table there's a clay pot of caramelized fish steaks with the tamarind soup most of the people order off the menu and mostly chicken soups are the top most frequently ordered here! The size and the prices are great match with the amount of labor that is shown with the spectacular fresh fish that is just right on point with bringing out my memories as we always eat at my moms dinner table it was just like how mom made it coming straight out from the stove bubbling hot in the thick peppery sauce coated all deep within the fish steaks ( ca kho to)! let's try other ones that also might give you the chance to forget about cooking if you just feel too stressed out after ling day of work!

I was surprisingly not as impressed with their pho ga. I think I preferred the pho ga I had in Virginia. But overall, chicken was good, soup was fine, noodles also fine. Banh knot was fine too. Crispy and fresh. def felt that they freshly made it. Wings are good too, friends cleaned up the dish really fast

Their chicken pho did not disappoint! The soup broth was delicious and full of deep flavors. The customer service was good. All of the dishes were made with fresh ingredients and executed well. It was very busy on a Monday evening, so they must be serving up some amazing cuisine. We will definitely be back to try other dishes we saw locals were ordering.

The Dakao experience hasn't always been smooth sailing, but there is no denying its status as one of the most beloved spots in Bellaire's Asiatown. Known especially for their signature chicken dishes, Dakao has built a loyal following and remains a standout in the local Viet dining scene. Most restaurants are easy to miss along Bellaire Blvd, but their massive signage ensures that most don't. The dining area is spacious enough to accommodate large groups, but it's also consistently busy, especially during peak hours and weekends. Waiting is almost certainly a given, but a little patience and strategy (later on weeknights) are key. The decor is a bit all over the place, but frankly, that's part of the charm. Their menu has to be one of the most extensive I've seen. While it might be tempting to stick with familiar Vietnamese dishes, I'd strongly recommend focusing on what they do best: all things chicken. Their pho ga (chicken pho) is one of the best in the city. The broth is rich and flavorful and the meat portions are generous -- offering a hearty mix of dark and white cuts. The dry version (pho ga kho) comes with a bowl of the broth, which is utterly divine. The fish sauce wings are also a hit, which often come perfectly fried and are full of flavor. Equally impressive is the chao ga (chicken congee), a simple dish that is executed exceptionally well. It arrives with a thin, fragrant layer of chicken fat glistening on the surface of the porridge, adding depth and texture. It's topped off with fried garlic, onion, and fresh cilantro and remains to be one of my favorite items on the menu. Their beef offerings are decent but don't quite measure up to any fo the chicken dishes. The bo luc lac (shaking beef), bo ne (beef sizzle platter), bo xao (stir fried beef) are serviceable, but better versions can be found at other places. Speaking of service, this is where they tend to get in trouble with others. The large staff is everywhere, but the miscues can vary on the individual. I've had excellent service and equally poor service, and it's sometimes a gamble especially during their busiest service. In the end, Dakao isn't perfect, but it excels at what it's known for. With fair prices, an eclectic vibe, and seemingly some of the city's best chicken dishes, it's a spot that fans of Vietnamese comfort food (especially chicken lovers) should prioritize for a visit ASAP.

One of my go to favorites for Viet food. They've got a super wide selection and definitely something for everyone! I love their pho ga kho (dried chicken pho), that's my most ordered dish for sure. Everything from pho to family style dining dishes like canh chua and stir fries, Dakao has it all. I HIGHLY recommend this place and honestly everyone who I've taken here has enjoyed the food as well!

Visiting here from California and I was craving some Vietnamese food. My uncle suggested this place down the street for some family style dinner. The restaurant was cutely decorated and very spacious. Plenty of seating and kind customer service. Ordered: the ca canh chua, rai muong, ca kho tau, and goi ga I've had better but it was still good and great pricing.

Came in around 11:30 on a Saturday, and the place was already packed. We waited by the door for a bit before a server came over to add us to the waitlist--about a 10-15 minute wait. The space is huge with lots of seating, and the interior is nicely done. The menu is massive--18 pages with lots of photos--so it took a while to go through everything. Unfortunately, the waitstaff were pretty pushy--three different people came by within the span of a few minutes asking if we were ready to order. We ordered a lot, but really only the chicken soup was a home run. We got the chicken noodle soup with dark meat, gizzards, and livers. The broth was flavorful, the noodles had a great texture, and the whole bowl came together really well. The Bo Ne had great pics on Yelp, and the food was good, but in the end, it felt like a dressed-up DIY steak and spam banh mi. Not bad, just not sure it was worth the $17. We also got a jellyfish and shrimp salad, which was light and refreshing, but there were only a few thin slices of shrimp, and I couldn't find any jellyfish. This place is known for having amazing chicken dishes, and I wholeheartedly agree with that. They'd be 5 stars if the rest of their food matched the quality of their chicken soup.

Visited with relatives and they recommended this place. I was told they are known for their pho ga and I did see pho ga kho (dry version) and gave that a try. I would say the sauce isn't similar to represent pho ga besides what goes into it. However, it was still delicious. Service was decent, fairly busy around 1/2 on Friday. Very spacious inside too.

Despite the mixed reviews about the chicken pho, I wanted to give it a shot because it was mentioned in a few reviews. I thought it was good! The chicken, well, tasted like chicken! It wasn't dry and had a nice touch of ginger (I think). The broth was nice to drink by itself and tied it all together. Bonus points too that my youngest son enjoyed it. I did really enjoy the egg roll here. Great flavor and has a nice crispy bite without the burnt edges. The service was decent. No major complaints. Some of our orders were mixed up and they tried to bring something we didn't order, but no big deal. Interior seemed clean and has an attempt to be trendy. I just came for the food. Go pho it!

I love this place, my stable restaurant. They have a wide variety of dishes. My favorites are com tam and com ga hai nam.

Picture this: You walk into Dakao, and it's like Santa decided to set up shop in a Vietnamese kitchen. The place is decked out with holiday vibes and a ceiling so whimsically painted that you half expect a reindeer to fly by. And the staff? Let's just say they're the elves of efficiency--our food came out in record time, like they've got a hotline to the North Pole's kitchen. Now, onto the feast! I got the special chicken rice for the kids. Imagine tender dark chicken meat, a little adventure with livers and gizzards, and a cabbage salad that adds a crunch of holiday magic. As for the seafood clay pot--well, let's just say it was more like the elves accidentally got a bit mushroom-happy. It wasn't bad, just not the star on top of the tree. Mostly mushrooms and a few seafood bits playing hide-and-seek. Next time, I'll stick to the popular dishes that Dakao clearly nails--like that chicken rice or maybe the shaking beef my friend's kids were smart enough to order. In short, if you want a holiday meal where Santa's Vietnamese elves serve up a sleigh-full of options at lightning speed, Dakao's your spot. Just be ready for a menu longer than Santa's gift list and a few hits and misses if you go too off the beaten path.

    Com Tam with short rib
    Alex N.

This was a great casual place to get a quick lunch. We were seated and served very quickly even during lunch rush. The Com Tam and Bo Ne were both pretty good, not the best of either I've had, but still high up on the list. The meats were very tender. The portion sizes weren't huge, but fitting enough for lunch. The price is also a lot more fair than other Viet places around there.

The filling is placed in a pan and then a thin layer of batter made with tumeric and coconut milk yellow batter is poured on top. You wrap the lettuce around the bánh xèo/bánh khọt and dip it in the fish sauce. I got the bánh khọt and the bò né. Bánh khọt is like a mini, thicker version of bánh xèo and came with nine pieces. Their bánh khọt was crispy, sweet and savory, and went well with the fish sauce. Although the portions initally look small, they are very filling. The bò né was filling and sizzling when it came out. It also came with a side of salad. The meat was tender. I really liked the bánh khọt and would definitely come back for them. It's nice having an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in our area, close to us, so we don't have to make the trek to Bellaire every time we crave some Viet food!

I couldn't have been more wrong. Xeo Yum (#1) as it turns out is one of the most legit Vietnamese places in Midtown serving up some of the city's best banh xeo and banh khot. Located inside of a Food Hall (#2) in the back corner, they have low-key become a destination and without question, the most popular stall in the entire place. The fan base didn't happen overnight but is a direct result of Chef Cuong Nguyen's commitment to quality Vietnamese fare. Banh Xeo is their signature item, which is also known as a sizzling crepe or pancake made of rice flour, tumeric, and coconut milk. The banh xeo holds well, is perfectly crispy, and is nicely stuffed with an assortment of beans sprouts, shrimp, and some of the best grilled pork belly I've had. Another specialty item that doesn't get enough mention is their banh khot, which is similar but has a mini muffin / cupcake like appearance made in a specialty cast iron mold. This version is wonderfully crispy and pairs perfectly with fresh greens and fish sauce with some funk. It is my favorite item here. Some have argued they also serve one of the best bo ne (#3), the Vietnamese version of steak and eggs served in a skillet. The chunks of beef are nice and tender with just a tad of char, served with two fried eggs, and a banh mi baguette with a mix of butter and spare. Normally I think of spam or sausage included with the meats, but Chef Cuong's spin is with cherry tomatoes. It's a different approach and I'm not mad at it. Folks not looking for this can shoot for bo luc lac, aka shaking beef, which is also recommended. The staff here is sweet, hard-working, and very friendly. They also make a mean Vietnamese coffee and offer free iced self-serve water. The prices are what I would expect in a Midtown food hall, and there's plenty of seating. Anyone checking out the food hall need to make Xeo Yum as part of their eating itinerary. __________ (#1) A play on the Vietnamese sizzling crepe, Banh "xeo" and yum" (#2) Previously the Conservatory and now Stestí Food Hall. When I arrived there was nobody dining in the restaurant, that was a bit worrying, but I figured it was a bit early for the dinner crowd and late for the lunch crowd. Food & Drink - 4.5* First up was the noodles, I enjoyed them, but I wouldn't say the hype I'd heard about from some others was there. They had nice flavor, but there just wasn't anything "special." 3.5* Then it was on to the crawfish, and my oh my. Superb, the flavor is delicious and unique. This more than made up for the noodles dish. The potato and corn was good too. Service - 5* Solid. When I first arrived the owner was quietly reading a newspaper and eating his own lunch. He paused to greet me and advised that I could sit anywhere. He provided water and adequate time to determine what I wanted to order. The food came out quickly and he checked in a few times to make sure everything was ok. As time went by, the crowd of folks showing up increased quite a bit and he still managed to check in on tables consistently. Pricing - 4* This is where it was odd. Always subjective but I found the noodles to be overpriced for not only the size but what I felt was a pretty simple dish. The crawfish on the other hand was priced very competitively and made up for the overpriced noodles. I provided pics of the menu for someone to make their own assessment but in general I thought many of the dishes were pricier than they probably should be. I know inflation is certainly killing many businesses and consumers but even these felt a bit off. Overall - 4.5* This is definitely going to be one of my go tos for crawfish when in the area. The flavor is fantastic, the pricing is good, the size of them were solid. There are a couple of other dishes I may try on the next visit. The restaurant is clean, the owner is very nice, and it's a nice low key space to just enjoy a good meal with friends or family.

Personally I wasn't a fan of the paste-y texture of the banh nam but that is a personal preference! Service is not the most hospitable but very quick. We were reseated after spotting a cockroach under our table. But even so I would come back to have this amazing food any day.

Came in to eat on a Saturday night around 8PM. They take walk ins, but we made reservations and I…read moream so glad we did. Upon arriving, every table was taken except our table w a reserved sign on it. The restaurant was bustling, but I could still hear my husband over the music and noise. The menu is huge!!! I didn't know where to start. But our server, Vanessa, helped us make a few choices. We started off w bánh xèo tostadas, bánh béo, & carpaccio. Then we had calamari and their steak special. I asked for a side of papaya slaw for some veggies. My favorite dish of the night was the carpaccio. So many flavors perfectly melded together. Loved the crunch of the fried onions and peanuts. 10/10 dish, in my opinion. Authentic banh xèo usually has an airier, crisp crepe, but theirs was more crunchy - great for their tostada take. Very flavorful. Each piece had one shrimp, but plenty of pork belly bites. The nuoc mam drizzled on it was tasty. Fried calamari - this is a big dish for, I believe, $'19. I prefer the dipping sauce on the side so that the batter doesn't get soggy. This did happen here, but it didn't stop us from finishing every last bite. The green sauce was good, not the usual dipping sauce for fried calamari. Steak special - they have another steak dish on their menu, but this one was pepper crusted w smashed potatoes. The potatoes were super crispy and flavorful and the steak was perfectly cooked - a beautiful pink medium rare. The portion was huge and justified the $39 price point. The staple steak dish came with a papaya slaw and I had to have it. It was bright and limey - I can see why they serve it with their steak. Bánh beo - my least favorite of the night. A bit thicker than I like. Still good, but there were a lot of other great dishes that I could easily pass on this one. Try their hibiscus artichoke tea.

We got there 15 minutes before to make sure we could find parking. They have a small lot but all the spaces were taken despite being before 6 pm on a weekday. And a few spots had noticeable broken glass so be careful. We fortunately found street parking close by; double checked the signs because I ain't getting towed for nothing. Then I double checked inside with staff to make sure where I parked was ok. On to the food: we got several happy hour appetizer items: soy garlic wings, Brussels sprouts, bao bun, roasted oysters. All was good but not amazing. I then ordered the pho tai chinh for myself - I was quite impressed with the portions and the price! Wifey got the lemongrass pork banh mi - good but not amazing. Overall I would say the food taste and portions were good, but note this is elevated Asian cuisine, so it'll run you $20-$30 minimum. Now the service - definitely super friendly staff. It was our first time there so maybe they brought out the extra friendliness. Even the chef came out and greeted us to make sure we liked the food. Waitress was very kind and checked on our table a LOT. Almost too much. Overall a good experience, yummy food, not a fan of the parking (a common problem in the Heights), and expensive for Asian food but that's expected. Enjoy!

My friends ordered the filet mignon and the chicken and they were equally as impressed! I ordered the espresso mousse for dessert which comes out in the shape of a coffee bean. Cuteeee and perfect! This place didn't disappoint and it is a must visit.

This is a higher end fine dining restaurant so you should expect the portion sizes and price to be pretty comparable to a lot of other finer dining restaurants. Overall the food's flavor was fantastic. I ordered the king salmon clay pot. I thought the salmon was so tasty! They added pepper and sauce to the salmon - It was tender and flavorful and paired nicely with white rice. The quail (not pictured below) also was super flavorful and was cooked so well it tasted like beef. The soup was also light and refreshing, similar to a west lake soup. It was thicker consistency and had cilantro and chucks of lobster. The drinks served were also super balanced. We ordered the mojito and the dragon fruit cocktail. The mojito was the right balance between minty and sweet with just a hint of alcohol flavor. For the dragon fruit cocktail, it was very fruity, on the sweeter side but not overpowering and was topped with egg whites to give it a little bit of frothiness. I will say, we are slightly underdressed to enter this establishment. Everything seemed so luxurious and many people were in formal business wear! Keep this in mind if you go! There is a parking deck right next to the location as well, both self parking and valet!
