Like the other reviews have stated, cute little Viet sandwich shop with limited hours in the Les Marais area. Arrived around 12p and the interior was dark with no lights and got worried that maybe they weren't open. Rang the buzzer and within seconds, the cheerful owner welcomed us in. She already knew I wanted the pork belly since she states that's what most people go early for. It's a generous portion and can easily be shared. As she was making it, a line of customers started forming. She seemed to have some helpers, so the orders came out quickly. Just as good as places in the US. First of all, small one woman restaurant means patience is a virtue. So, we walk up to the restaurant around noon and have to wait outside because there is already 3-4 customers inside. We finally enter and the owner is working frantically to churn out the banh mi sandwiches. The wait is of no consequence since this is part of the appeal of this unique restaurant. Wife had the chicken banh mi and my son and I had the pork. Even the picky eater that my son normally is, enjoyed his banh mi. Was not sure what to expect since these sandwiches come on a French bagette but it was a nice crispy exterior that really complimented my spicy pork sandwich. The amount of spiciness is based on your liking and the banh mi maker will cater to your heat index. Don't let the space fool you. The food is legit! My boyfriend and I stayed nearby and found this place had great reviews. The first time we stopped by, we thought the place was closed (it has little lighting so it looks like it's closed, but check their hours to make sure!). We came back the next day with determination. We each ordered the Porc Caramel banh mi. It's huge! The bun is crispy on the outside and warm on the inside, and the flavours are out of this world. It is packed full of ingredients. Highly recommend this one if you eat pork (even if you're not a fan of pork, you'll like this one). The restaurant owner is super nice and talkative, and speaks several languages fluently. My boyfriend and I tried to come back again another day, but we were too late and they were closed. The final day of our trip in Paris, we came back and ordered the Porc Caramel once again, and a beef bo bun. All of this was delicious. I unfortunately was not feeling well and couldn't indulge as much as I wanted to (but this benefited my boyfriend as he ate pretty much all the food). Adding my voice to the accolades about the great banh mi sandwiches here. My husband and I tried the pork and the chicken sandwiches (spicy), made fresh after ordering with quality ingredients. Both were delicious! Baguette was excellent and warm, which really made the whole package extra satisfying--and bread to filling ratio was just the way I want it. Banh Mi has the most delicious Viet sandwiches in Paris! The bread was toasted to a perfect crunch. The meat was juicy with flavor (ask for spicy or extra spicy if you dare!) and the carrots were yummy fresh! The store is very tiny, can fit max 5 people maybe and usually she runs out of ingredients around 4-5pm. The bahn mi we had here was amazingly delicious. It is quite spicy (more so than average), but you can always ask her to make it less spicy or not spicy if you want. Adding to the amazing experience here was the proprietor, who was talkative, funny, and wonderfully sweet. She clearly cared deeply about how we liked the food, as well. It must be noted that most the of reviews generated before August 2013 are for the location on volta street and this new location looks different from the pictures on here and the menu is different as well. There is no pork belly bahn or anything of the sorts. There is chicken, bbq pork, pate, and special and the prices range from 5.50 to 7 EUR per sandwich. I think the owner might be the same or somewhat related. I have to start with the fact that is is nowhere near the "best" bahn mi i have ever had. In fact, i've even had better bahn mi in paris, let alone the rest of the world. The homemade spice that someone recommended you get a lot of, is indeed homemade, but the flavour is overwhelming and takes away from the sandwich...which i think is fine since the sandwich is just mayo, shreded asian pork, viet sausage (the white one), and maggie soy sauce. Not much flavour at all to begin with. The sandwich maker is extremely friendly and nice and this hole in the wall shop that has no signs whatsoever on the outside is clean and proper. But the food? I honestly can't say it was that good. I didnt even finish my sandwich. Sorry folks, maybe this place needs some time to shape up to its previous glory? Yelp has disappointed me on this one :( By the way, there is a review for the new location in french, that does a comparison between the new sandwich shop and the old one - apparently the person says that the ingredients have changed. Friendly service Multi-lingual Cheap (yay!) Big portions (yay, again!) Hole-in-the-wall but clean! I was dying to try the banh mi porc (pork), and today, I have finally fulfilled my wishes! The resto had been closed for some weeks (French holiday season) and re-opened today (I had it marked on my calendar). The reviews did not disappoint! The porc is really flavorful without being overpowering or salty. It literally melts in your mouth. The accoutrements, pickled carrots and cilantro, are fresh and lighten the pork belly. Ugh--so good! I asked for a little bit of spice, but next time, I will pass on that because it was really spicy. The owner is a Vietnamese lady who is super friendly and speaks English very well. True to form Banh Mi was the best sandwich I've had since I've been to Paris. I ordered the pork and wanted spicy but not too spicy for my sandwich it turned out delicious! The filling was perfect! It has cha (thinly sliced pork sausage), ruoc (marinated shredded pork) and pickled veggies with Asian mayonnaise spread and pate. It was probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had and I'm Vietnamese so I've had many banh mi in my life. My only complaint was that the bread, although slightly toast was a bit hard and it cut both of our upper palate. So good I wanna end my vacation in the US and come back to France ASAP. I whine a lot about not finding my favorite foods in Paris. While I still can't find a decent taco or burrito, at least there is Vietnamese food. And it's done right, especially here. The woman who owns this tiny shop is my food hero. I suspect she is the only person who works here. Preparing all the meals with chopsticks, she pleasantly chats and gossips all day with customers in Vietnamese, English, and French. I really wished I had time to go back for more! One of the best food I've had in Paris. The little lady is busy making her sandwichs and its funny to watch her yell downstairs for more meat, run all over the place, while serving her many customers. Everything is good here. I had the vermicelli with chicken. Bit on the salty side for me but I loved how she put so much veges like cilantro in it. We left but then realized the owner was probably telling us about the pork that was sold out and thankfully went back. The pork was sold out in the first hour, but not the chicken or beef. We got one of each, "spicy". We had to wait however, as she was sold out of bread and went down the street to get more. The chicken was extremely flavorful and a great sandwich. The beef however was way too salty. We sadly removed the overly salted beef and still enjoyed the rest of the sandwich. The owner is extremely friendly. The name of the restaurant says it all: Banh Mi. If you are ever in Paris and are craving banh mi's or Vietnamese cuisine, I highly recommend taking the time to visit this restaurant. During my first trip to Paris I knew I had find a place that sells Banh Mi because let's face it, Banh Mis are Vietnamese sandwiches largely influenced by the French! Let me add to my credibility as I have tasted many a Vietnamese sandwich growing up in Southern California with many Vietnamese restaurants and shops. Banh Mi definitely takes top honors. What made my special banh mi so great were the fish flakes that she (the owner) added. She also has a special sauce slathered between the amazingly fresh baguette which was oh so delicious. The pickled carrots was the icing to the cake. I tell you, I loved this place. The owner is quite wacky and she does speak English well. While dining at her establishment, there were customers that seemed to frequent there which shows that she knows what she's doing with her sandwiches. She cautioned me about the spice level of her banh mi (which you can do without). I recommend not making the sandwich spicy if you cannot tolerate spicy foods but if you do, I highly recommend it as it really adds pop to the sandwich. I'm sure it would have tasted great without the spicy kick but the chili powder or chili oil that she used was a great addition. I also ordered the taro bubble tea which was refreshing. She even gave us the option to add soy milk as she knows that some people do not go well with lactose. This place does not have a huge sign outside of the building so keep an eye out as you're walking down rue de Turbigo. Amazing experience. Me and my gf are in Paris and wanted our Asian food fix and we tumbled upon this place via yelp (thank goodness). We got there when the doors opened and it's this small shop ran by one lady who knows English Vietnamese and some other languages to boot. Let me tell you, best banh I've ever and my gf agrees. Ingredients are fresh with the mouth watering pork belly prepared for hours. The baguette is a perfect compliment with the right amount of aioli and condiments. We had Banh Mi at this cute little shop. We honestly found it because of Yelp, it was our first night and we were already a bit overwhelmed by the metro ride and trying to understand everyone's French. Hopefully we'll have time to go back to the shop to try the few remaining options on the menu (the beef banh mi and the more traditional pâté banh mi). The pork was soooo fatty that it was virtually all fat... not fatty neck pork that one would eat in Thai cuisine. There was nothing spectacular about this place; a true dive that's for sure, but not in any way did it live up the glorious reviews that yelpers left for this. I don't really get the the other reviews since we mostly watch reviews before we tryout a place. Anyways me and my boyfriend are banh mi lovers but it didn't fill up our expactations. Its a OK banh mi. We tried the chicken and bbq ones. The chicken was good and the bbq was ok but none of these can compare with the one's we tried in New York, China Town. Since the banh mis from NY we always tried to find similiar one's in Sweden (we live in Sweden) and around the world. I guess it's like that when u have tried better stuff u can't stop compare with the better ones. But if this is the best u had then u will give it a five stars. And I know the reason why ppl give it 5 stars. We tried other places that sold banh mi in Paris but really.... the standard is either superlow or we just hit the worst places during our stay (we didnt watch reviews for the place before we tried since we didnt have wifi). Had a banh mi pork pâté when it was 1000 degrees outside. Place has no AC, small fans so I don't recommend eating there especially during hot days, and the kitchen is out in the open, but it is a great place to go take away. Sandwich is ready in two minutes, quite big, comes with a drink so also super cheap. Very tasty, veggies, sauces, pâté, great stuff all around and about 5-6 different sandwiches to choose from. I will go back for sure, plus the staff is nice and generous on fillings. Only little thing I have found is a NY equivalent restaurant would probably receive a grade B or C, despite being all nice and all, due to the kitchen style... would be nice to have them fix up the kitchen a bit to look more... sleek. Honestly, I can not write a review positive enough for this place. The women who works the front is so incredably friendly and helpful (in both French and a little English!) and just brings life to the store. As for the food - it is incredable. I have been living near by for a month, and I have been there three times already, because I start to crave the sandwhiches. My personal favorite is the porc caramel - if you can only go once, you MUST try this. then the resteraunt itself is lovely. It is small (seating for maybe 10 people?) but so many people stop by and get sandwhiches to go, that it is always full of energy. The walls are decorated with post cards people have sent from all over the world - Yes, the sandwhiches are so good it makes you want to send them a post card from afar.
