So far, I've had a great experience with Banner Carpets. I stopped in today and met Richard. I told him what I was looking for and he took me straight to the exact product. I asked about taking samples home and he handed me the entire sample board and said, "Take it home, figure out what works, and bring it back later." So there I am, walking down the street with an umbrella in one hand and a big carpet sample board in the other. It took about ten minutes at home to know which one was right. I drove back, told Richard my choice, and he immediately called his supplier to confirm availability, did the math, gave me the price, and we were good to go. I asked when they could install and he said, "Eight days, first thing in the morning. That work?" Yes, it works. For context, I actually take Yelp pretty seriously and I try to leave detailed, helpful reviews. Recently it has been rough for home improvement. I had a highly rated HVAC guy completely screw up a job, refund me, and leave me hanging. I ended up calling someone I met at a punk rock show almost a year earlier. He drove down to the beach, fixed it on the first try, and gave me a genuine punk rock bro deal. Then for carpet, I reached out through Yelp to South Bay Carpet & Hardwood. They messaged me saying to ignore other companies because they had my back. After that, I got a canned email, no follow up, ignored calls, ignored texts, and eventually a message about being a family business dealing with a sick grandma. I was sympathetic and told them no problem and that we could reconnect Monday. Then nothing. Total ghosting. Not trying to be heartless, but grandma would want you to take care of your customers and keep your business running. Another company on Yelp declined the job upfront, which I actually appreciated because they didn't waste my time. All of that is why Banner Carpets really surprised me today. Based on their Yelp reviews they were not my first choice. After today, they are at the top of my list. Friendly, fast, direct, and actually helpful. If installation goes as smoothly as the rest of this experience, I will be happy to update this and lock in the five stars. Stay tuned... *Update - Install day - the installers arrived on time and did a beautiful job. They were in/out in about 1.5 hours (installed carpet in a bedroom), respectful of my home and courteous. They are very good with customer service when they sell you the products. I was told to get more just to be sure I'm not short as I could always return the excess product. When the time came they told me not to bother as the restocking fee would be nothing as the restocking fee was so high. This was NEVER conveyed to me when they told me to buy extra product. Although I had my own measurements the gentleman who I believe was the owner still came out to measure and I'm glad he did because my measurements were wrong lol. Now that we are moving we just want to help other people who have overseas contracts staying in Torrance, California for few years and want nice cushioned carpet in your place for your family, there's so many options I cannot recommended here. Banner prices are more expensive than any competitors, just try searching online and call around you will see. My main reason for the 1-Star is because sales guy wouldn't honor the 10% off for checking in, he said he did but just added on other charges that are bogus from what competitors say when I show my invoice. It says ANY carpet by the way, but it's not. I came here because my neighbor recommended them and I really liked their carpet that's good for dogs and didn't shop around especially because the sales guy Manny Danny, I think it was, he was so nice at first. I had to save up for the nice carpet so once he realized I can't pay right away I felt pushed aside. After my first pay I came back and he didn't recognize me or he did but gave cold shoulder. When I said I had saved and can afford the nice carpet now, he was all smiles again, very sneaky. It was only after when I shared with coworkers they showed me many options and I realized I was ripped off and there's a few squeaky spots too which is bad because my downstairs neighbor already complains about the footstep noises. From my experience I really can't recommend Banner, maybe I just got a greedy salesman, but then the installation was terrible too, makes me wonder. read more

Banner carpet is involved in theft, Be extremely careful when doing business with them. They stole $2,600 from me.... I sadly hired them to do a job for me a year ago and payed with my card. Scheduled an appointment for today and the guy couldn't come out until the end of the day. So I was killing time waiting 5pm 5:15 5:30 5:40 so I decide to call. The guy answers and says "hey Mark what's up" that is a true sign your in trouble right away. Clueless about our appointment. I was trying to give them some business as they just opened 2 months ago. He said they were busy and couldn't get over today. I arranged my day to be there to meet him but I am an organized guy. If you have an appointment you keep your appointment and tell whoever popped in that you have to go OR call me at least to tell me you are aware of our appointment and will be over at X time so I know we are still on. Why am I calling YOU? Don't give me this hey "Mark what's up" BS. Told him this is a sure fire way to lose business and go out of business. You unfortunately get one chance to impress me. My experience with Banner Carpets in Torrance was horrible. The sales associate Dan is not very kind or customer service oriented. But I'll give him one piece of credit, he can push a sale. Other than that, the sales rep is a real A**hole. We have learned that the warranty on the workmanship and material is not guaranteed by Banner. For example, today we went to the Torrance store to seek advice and guidance on the carpet they installed. Certain sections of the carpet is starting to bubble and it looks horrible However, Dan offered no guidance or assistance on the issue. His reaction to our concern was the carpet issue is not their problem. So my advice to you is, if you want to spend your money wisely, do not go to Banner Carpets in Torrance to purchase flooring or carpeting. Wow, I hate writing these 1star reviews but I believe people should know what happened here..... my roommate and I recently moved from Venice to Marina and wanted to redo the dreadful black/blue carpet that existed, who does black carpet?! One of my co-workers actually recommended this place and said to ask for Richard. When actually had a guy come and do an estimate, Danny was kind enough to answer all our questions, mind u, we have no idea whether what is best hardwood, engineered, laminate, the list goes on... we were given a quick tutorial on what's what and decided to go with laminates since we both have a dog. He gave us an estimate and we signed some forms and bada-bing-bada-boom! After, we were excited and shared our joy with co-workers and friends. When people saw the estimate though they were iffy saying that you can do it yourself it's not that difficult and the labor is too expensive. So we decided to call and ask if we can get just the laminate materials and we are going to do it ourselves with a friend who did his entire condo floors himself. No problem they said. When we went to pick up the materials, that's when everything started to go really south. Long story short, our original estimate of $2000 ($1400 materials and $600 labor) was changed to $1800 materials and $200 labor. We even showed them a piece of paper that Danny himself wrote down on front of us in our apt and he completely denied it, then where did we get these numbers?! He laughed it off saying "Hey our labor was only $200, it's a steal but you didn't want it." If it was $200 we would've just paid and saved the trouble, but now we have to pay $400 extra? The thing we signed only said the total and not a breakdown and he claimed he never gave us those figures, but it's two against one Danny, we were there, so were you, I'll know better to record things or get a breakdown with future businesses or contractors, but just cause we're beach blondes doesn't mean you can talk down to us and blatantly lie, he made us feel so cheap like we were asking him for a discount. Definition of a pushy sales rep. We tried our best to get our original $1400 in materials and go, but the conversation was not going anywhere... we ended up having to pay the $1800 since they ordered the materials and we signed the thing, we were not happy campers. He said he would help load the materials into our rental truck, but we had to do it ourselves, seriously?! Half way through the owner Richard helped us out, but we thought it was super weird and suspicious that he didn't take responsibility for his employee's actions saying that it was his deal, not his and he didn't know what was going on, are u sure u're in charge? Wow, if I had a business I would not allow my employees to cheat customers and take responsibility, not stand idly by. I could go on and on about the entire ordeal but I hope others look around because materials are a fraction of the price they sell it for online, you just need to DIY or find a friend who can help. The redeeming 1star for this review is that the laminate was very pretty. After installation we were really happy to see our new beautiful floors, but then again this is the worst sales experience I ever had, it literally made me cry because I felt so helpless that we were victims to such a criminal markup :( read more

My wife & I went in to Banner Carpet's showroom last June to select vinyl flooring for our condo's common area (living room & kitchen) - appx. 450 sq. ft. 'Banner's Owner, Richard Bortsuk, recommended & sold us flooring that looked nice in his showroom & fit our budget (even though my wife expressed concerns about the apparent softness of the product - which Richard assured her would not be an issue.). The day the flooring was to be installed, Banner's installer installed the material over sub-floor at our entryway which was rotten & should have been replaced first. Instead of halting the installation as soon as the rotten sub floor was discovered & notifying us & his boss of the subfloor's condition (unsuitable for the installation), Banner completed the entire installation. When we came home that evening, we discovered this problem. We called Banner immediately to let Richard know that our landing felt unstable and spongy when we walked on it, etc. Consequently, the freshly installed flooring was pulled up by Richard's crew revealing a sub-floor area that obviously needed to be replaced so a suitable surface on which the new flooring would be installed was in place. We immediately contracted with another builder to replace the subfloor at our expense - which was done 2 days later. Instead of ordering new flooring & simply starting over to ensure a proper result, Richard assured us his crew would be able to re-install the same material (including the section that had to be ripped up) properly & seamlessly. We should have insisted on new material. Now, there is a jagged seam showing from where the flooring material had to be cut away from the rest of the installation in the area where the sub-floor had been replaced- not in a corner mind you, but in the same landing/entry area at the entrance to our home. To "add insult to injury," the new flooring showed signs of heavy wear, i.e. dimples & depressions everywhere. This additional defect should have not had anything to do with our occupancy and these defects were present from Day #1 and they were pointed out to Richard, too. Additionally, when cleaner was used on this surface, the flooring became permanently spotted in several areas. We pointed this out to Richard who did come out to see these issues. Unfortunately we had a death in the family (really) & we were unable to keep the appointment. A few months later I decided I had to revisit this matter, so I called Richard back. He was not happy to hear from me, nor was he nice. I was told that a manufacturer's inspection needed to be ordered. After waiting patiently for several weeks for the inspection & having the inspection done, the inspection co. (representing the manufacturer) denied our claims of poor installation, lack of wear-ability & spotting. The 1st inspection company had promised their findings in 10 business days - it took a month. We were shocked that our claim has apparently been denied. We were never sent a copy of the findings. To Banner/Richard that should have been the end of this matter as far as he was concerned - at least that was his attitude. But, I called Richard and let him know that I wasn't letting "this go," so he agreed to bring in another inspection co. Finally, 3 weeks later, this was done & again our claim was denied based on the inspector's findings that the damage to our flooring was no fault of the manufacturer. My wife & I work 60-70 hrs. a week off site. We are home to sleep and on weekends. We are quiet neat people & our impact on our home is minimal - we even dine out most of the time. Our home is also professionally cleaned 2X/month. After I called Richard to discuss this situation again, he coldly suggested we purchase laminate flooring from him but he told me it would cost appx. $2300. If I were Richard, I would have offered to replace 100% of the flooring at HIS cost & waived the labor charge & informed the manufacturer of these obvious problems & TAKEN UP THESE MATTERS WITH THEM. At Richard's insistence the installation had to be redone with the same material so now an ugly seam is in our entryway which we see every time we enter & exit our home - so do our guests. Contrary to Richard's promise, this brand of flooring is NOT durable & it also stains permanently when anything but water is spilled on it. All along Richard was aiming to get the flooring manufacturer to pay ALL the related expenses to replace the material including his labor costs. Now that he has documentation he thinks he is in the clear. His position is I can start over & buy more flooring. If I were Richard, I would have contacted the manufacture and insisted they cover the flooring quality issue & I would have also "fessed-up" to my co.'s part in the botched initial installation on top of rotten sub-floor. Just be honest and make this right & do not put the blame & cost for this mess on a trusting customer. Like Nancy B stated, "Be warned." read more

They sold me a houseful of designer carpet that was 60% off in the exact color I needed and having saved so much money we were able to tile our bathroom. We recently decided to replace the carpet in our living room with porcelain tile that looks like wood. After two pricey quotes from other installers who under measured our square footage by over 100sq ft (still not sure how that happened), we hired Banner carpets for the job.
