We shared a sushi boat with a soup & salad; it was overflowing with rolls, sashimi and sushi. The complementary Thai donuts were delicious. We all enjoyed our reasonably priced enormous meals. The food exceeded our expectations- & the owner brought us an extra appetizer. We had the Jumbo Shrimp Shamai - (see pic) the Beauty & the Beast roll and the yummy Spider roll. Food was alright here. It's a large menu consisting of Japanese, Thai, & Sushi. We ordered chicken pad thai and mussels dynamite. They were both ok to me. The sauce on the pad thai seemed like it was heavy on the peanut butter is my guess. The mussels were ok as in so so ok. The server was nice and was helpful as much as possible as well as accommodating. I asked to move tables because it was hot. They have a fan that sits on the ground but since it's an old building, the ceiling fans they have mostly do not work. In terms of ambiance, I didn't see until I walked back to the restroom, but the back is extremely cluttered with anything you name it and that was a huge turn off for me. On the right side was a a few tables that were stacked up mountainous with random stuff and to the left side, the kitchen was open and eek it didn't look pretty. We usually check out restaurants before dining in them, and since I didn't walk through the back, I missed that and would have definitely not gone. In addition, it appeared the restaurant family's kids were there with their friends and it was loud like a Chuckie Cheese. I didn't find that appropriate in the restaurant. read more

On a Monday, I waited outside to try this strip-mall sushi restaurant to open. The sign on the window says they open at 11am. They close after lunch and re-open for dinner. I came in through the doors at 11:01. The family owners were busy in the back room. A friendly gentleman greeted me after 30 seconds. They post the menu outside on one of the windows so I was prepared to order when I sat down. I orders their lunch sashimi meal which comes with 12 pieces of sashimi, miso soup (before the meal), rice (with the meal), ginger, wasabi, & 2 half slices of an orange. I ordered without rice. The meal came at 11:12 and the miso soup around 11:05. . The soup was hair and flavorful. The sashimi was fresh and neutral smelling. My favorite was the salmon sashimi. It melted in my mouth and left me wanting more. The other owner, the host's wife, came out of the back (with a smile) and refilled my water. She was pleasant. While I was enjoying my meal, another guest came through the door and let the host know he wanted to order take-out. After I finished my $17.07 (with tax but before tip) meal and paid, I was walking out to my car at 11:24. Quick service, clean environment, friendly staff, and fresh sushi. I'll be back. read more

One of the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in the Melbourne area. I stopped in for a late lunch the other day not really expecting to much but, was so suprised and glad I did. I had the Terryaki chicken and it was a big piece of freshly grilled chicken slice in about 6 or 7 slices. The sauce was not sickly sweet and had more of a ginger taste to it. There was a scoop of rice, 3 pieces of steamed broccoli and a few big sliced carrot pieces. All very flavorful and tasted fresh. Then I had sweet mango and sticky rice it was really good too but, could have had the coconut sauce drizzled over the mangoes as well. All very good and filling. read more

Food came out after waiting for over an hour. No explanation. When asked, the reply was "that sushi would have been faster than Thai". Have eaten here several times and wait was never this long. We decided to try a new sushi restaurant tonight and based off the 4.5 stars, we selected Banzai Sushi and Thai. The restaurant atmosphere was immediately off putting. The floors and ceiling had noticeable damage, and the back side of the dining room was filled with items as if it were storage. We put judgment aside and waited for our food to arrive. We ordered a ginger salad, shrimp Shumai, Beauty and the Beast Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll. The salad and the shrimp shumai were okay. Both sushi rolls were not rolled tight and falling apart. I have never had a sweet spicy tuna roll and the beauty and the beast roll was not memorable. The kids meals and the Thai donuts were the best part of the experience. Overall, it was an incredibly disappointing sushi experience. We will not return. read more

Let me start my saying we don't eat sushi unless it is made by Andy; period. We have lived many places and have eaten a lot of sushi, but this is the best. We have never had an "unpleasant" piece of fish and we have been coming here for four years. Andy and "M" are incredibly hospitable and friendly. No judgement here. Would leave zero. My husband got shell fish poisoning, threw up a couple times, had 102 fever off and on for 2 days, started in middle of the night, lasted 3 days total and missed a day of work. If someone had told me 30 years ago that some of the best sushi in Melbourne could be found at a Japanese/Thai restaurant hybrid, I would have laughed in their face and called them a bald liar. Well, had that occurred, I would be gobsmacked today and apologizing for calling them a liar as I have just had some of the best sushi in Melbourne at a place called Banzai Sushi and Thai (a Japanese/Thai restaurant hybrid). The decor is an ascetic combination of Thai and Japanese art that blends together flawlessly to create a welcoming atmosphere. My server was an extremely charming fellow from India named Darban. He was exceedingly professional, personable and knew the menu inside and out. Along with an order of my go-to sushi restaurant barometer of a spicy tuna hand roll, I also placed an order for one Four Seasons roll and one JB Roll. Fresh out of the gate the rubber hit the road as I took a bite into one of the best spicy tuna hand rolls this side of Tokyo. The roll was done to such perfection that it crunched as I bit into it. Hands down, this was one of the better spicy tuna hand rolls I have had and the chef certainly hit it out of the ballpark with this roll. The Four Seasons roll was an old school roll with three different kinds of masago (smelt roe) on top and scallions, salmon, tuna, escolar and avocado mixed in. The exquisite flavor combination had my taste buds performing an Odori within seconds. Last, but far from least, was my order of the JB roll. I don't know who or what JB is, but they should be proud to have their name associated with this creation of culinary delight. It was a dazzling concoction of salmon, cream cheese, scallions and sesame seeds. If you're in the mood for an incredibly globalized meal (where else does one find a person from India serving Japanese food in a Thai place?), some old school sushi where the chefs greet each walk in with the traditional, "Irasshaimase" and the owner's wife darts around like a butterfly checking on customers and staff alike, with fish so fresh you can almost see it draw its final breath, then Big Boy says, "Get yourself on over to Banzai Sushi and Thai in Melbourne and soothe your savage beast with some Far East tradition." read more

I decided to try them out because of the great reviews from my fellow Yelpsters. No dining in just yet, so I ordered a J1 Sushi Dinner A ($21) over the phone. It featured a California Roll and 9 individual pieces of Nigiri Sushi (Chef's Choice). Drove by to pick up 20 minutes later and came back to begin my feast. They included a complimentary tea as well as some teriyaki style fried rolls to sample. Nice! The miso soup was the standard recipe and had good flavor. The chef's assortment of Nigiri included imitation Krab (I never order this), 2 Salmon, 1 Tuna, 1 yellowtail, 1 eel (I never order this either), 1 Shrimp (Why bother with so much Shrimp in Florida!) and some other items. The freshness and flavors were good. The CA roll was large and filling with fresh tasting Avocado. It was a decent sushi lunch. But I would much rather dine in for sushi. Good, but not great. We've had take out three times now from here and they've yet to get our order (family of four) correct. We've never actually got the spicy sauce on the "Spicy" rolls we order (at least one each time), and so they were just the regular versions. I do understand sushi is supposed to be eaten at the counter and not supposed to be eaten later, and so is probably much better than n house; but that doesn't excuse the lack of precision on the orders or the missing ingredients. Also: WAAAYYYY too heavy on the avacado for me, (bigger chucks than the fish on some of the rolls), but obviously that's subjective. Again... good, not great. read more

Its Mothers Day and Im surfing the net on my Droid while Niki enjoys a pedicure at her favorite spa. While I am waiting we are texting back and forth. It is on our way and we have been many times. Once you enter Banzai you are greeted nicely and promptly directed to a booth or table. Drink orders are fast and refills come without asking. Ordering comes shortly after the drinks arrive. Niki orders an edemame starter with a sea of love roll as the main course. I order about 6 pieces and a spicy tuna roll. After a short wait our meal came on a big boat. I understand that its mothers day anx the want to impress but I prefer my own plating. I wont knock them for that though. The sushi is fresh, visually appealing, and very tasty. The quality here is very consistant and the service is always attentive with cheery smiles. For dessert we ordered the deep fried cheesecake. This was not so great. It was deep fried but still very frozen hard on the inside which made it very hard to enjoy. So when you get that craving for the cuisine of the far east. I recently started commuting from Orlando to Melbourne for a new job, so Yelp once again is proving to be an incredibly valuable tool in my quest for a delicious lunch. I ordered the hamachi nigiri to start (see photo) -- I love it, and I've found that it often accurately portrays the overall quality of the restaurant. I have to admit I was a little concerned when I saw that 2 pieces cost $3.90 -- The average going rate for 2 pieces in Orlando is around $5.50 or $6, and I've seen as high as $10 (!). Happily, it didn't disappoint! The pieces were above average in size, they were fresh, and the taste was better than average without being too oily. The texture was soft and delicate, exactly how I like it. Shockingly great nigiri for that price! My main plate consisted of the Four Season Roll and salmon maki (see photo). Like the nigiri, the maki was fresh and tasty, but the Four Season Roll really was the shining star on the plate. It was a beautifully presented, very large 8-piece roll split into pairs and covered with four different kinds of masago. I loved it, despite the fact that I probably looked pretty stupid trying to maeuver the large pieces into my mouth. Four slices of starfruit also adorned the plate, which acted nicely as a palate cleanser between pieces. The service was fantastic. My waitress was friendly, smiling, and helpful throughout. I can't wait to come back and try something else on the menu. read more

Upon being seated, we were given a warm moist towel that smelled wonderful and a complimentary bonsai salad that was delightful. We ordered hot sake by the recommendation of the friendly waiter, an order of dumplings, a golden snapper salad, a Tom Kha Kai soup, and a hurricane roll. My friends and I stumbled on this place while we went to pick up our new car and I was pleasantly surprised. They offer a very extensive menu of not just sushi but Thai dishes and some Chinese ones as well. If they offered dumplings I'd probably be here every week! I got the eel and rice bento box. My friend got the veggie bento box (which was huge!) and my husband got a side of fried rice. Everything was delicious. The sushi was comparable to the ones in Northern California's hot spots, the staff was attentive and upon arrival of our bill we got slices of fresh Watermelon (which was great to beat the heat outside)! If I'm ever in the area, I will definitely be back here. And! They're open all day, none of that break after 2PM stuff! read more
