Solid place inside Reading Terminal Market! Would recommend and would get again. It can seem overwhelming at the choices. When you have foodie fomo, you want to try all of the delicious-sounding baos, but most people will be satisfied with 2-3. I opted for a combo platter, which came with 2 baos, 1 drink, and the option of wonton "chips" or boba ice cream. "A side of ice cream! How fun!" I thought. Rookie move. It was delicious, yes, even with my kids pilfering bites left and right. The problem is the market place is so crowded, a lot of the ice cream will melt by the time you've sat down. If you don't mind it a little melty, then no big deal. The baos are decent. It's a small operation, so the baos are clearly a mass-produced situation and so not as fluffy as you might get elsewhere where it could be steamed to order. Compared to other pre-made baos I've had, these were good. The fillings were ample and delicious. The pork belly special was fantastic and the Mongolian beef was great as well. Not much to say here. It's a shop in the middle of Reading Terminal Market, and service was relatively quick. As far as Bao goes, these are definitely a more of a "bao-inspired" soft taco. I got a pineapple curry chicken bao that I'm unsure if it had any pineapple in it. Flavor was muted, and the portion was on the smaller side. It's unfortunate since I do usually have a weakness for good buns. My wife had a pork bun that was probably close to 90% fat that she picked out, not leaving much left at all. I got two pillowy vegetarian bao buns for lunch from here yesterday - curry cauliflower and Kung Pao tofu. For $16, you can get the combo meal which comes with two bao buns of your choice, a side and a beverage. I feel like this is more on the expensive side, but it does fill you up. Out of the two bao buns, the cauliflower was my favorite. The fillings are pretty hefty and messy to eat, so make sure to grab some napkins on your way out. The coleslaw was fine. A little bland for my liking, and it was a big portion so I didn't finish all of it. Service was great and quick. I vote they add dessert options to their menu! You might think $6 for a bao bun is ridiculous. Then you take a bite in your $6 bao and realize the amount of flavors, and food that comes in one bao. The flavors are wild. It was wild that I even found this place to begin with. I already hit my normal spots in Reading Terminal, I literally passed this placed 8 times before I saw someone eating a bao. So of course I had to try it. Tiny little place. But they offer some many good treating choices. The servers make each bao right there in front of you. With baos like these you have to eat them fresh. I was shocked my little bao bun could hold all the protein and condiments in it without breaking. I was so disappointed with my recent visit here. I looked at the reviews and the pictures of the menu options, but this was the worst bao bun I've ever had. The bun itself was unable to hold up to the toppings and it was hard and cracked when I tried to take a bite. It was absolutely delicious and a great deal for six dollars, but the pork belly was so hot that it was practically inedible at first. This is NOT a Taiwanese bun at all. We made a special trip to the Reading Terminal after seeing a news report about a Taiwanese shop opened in the Reading Terminal. It is a shame. It is not Taiwanese food at all. The claimed Taiwanese Classic Bao Bun does not have Taiwanese flavor or traditional ingredients and uses a cold straw, instead. It is terrible. Tried this for the first time today when from a pop up at Herman's and it was delicious. I tried all the bao they offered for the pop up which was the pork belly, chicken satay, chicken Mongolian and the chrysanthemum bun. Everything was delicious; pork belly was thick and juicy, chicken as well. My favorite was the Mongolian chicken, I really liked the tang and the kick of spice. It was delicious. The chrysanthemum it's probably something I could have skipped. It is not bad by any means but probably just not necessary. The bao itself was really good - crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and the best part was sesame icing but the chrysanthemum taste itself, I personally could not taste it. It's a good ending but if you were to skip it, it's not the end of the world. Unfortunately, their home location is a bit out of the way for me. But if they do another pop up at herman's or somewhere close to it - I would definitely go again for the baos. Yum! read more

This phenomenal chef was a guest chef at the Philadelphia museum over the past weekend. The food was so good that he was selling out of a lot of stuff quickly !! I was amazed at how many people were rushing to try the food!! So I had to wait in a bit of a line to get mines but it was well worth it. Also, he was quick and efficient and even with the way he had to rush the food was still put together beautifully. I ordered 3 Magnolia bao buns which came out to approximately $16 . It had an amazing soy honey glaze, spicy shallot and cilantro. The spice was just enough to give it an edge without being overpowering. The meat was perfectly juicy and tender and he was very generous with the amount of meat he placed inside!! From other people who ordered I was told the wings and the sweet cinnamon buns were a bit. This place is going to have hipsters , foodies and influencers jamming the streets to taste these amazing baos. They might be based in a shared commissary but can order for pickup and they will Come to gate to give you the food. My recommendation is to send someone from Your social bubble and buy a few for each person from as many types as you can. They have about 6 and they all looked good. I got the pork , general tso chicken and Rock shrimp. They all came wrapped nice fluffy bao buns, had a decent amount of protein and just the right accompaniments. Three filled me up Nicely for lunch and at 5 dollars per not bad considering quality. They have a couple combos that come with 2 baos, a salad and water perfect if ever get back to the office and want to order for a group. Got the Korean chicken wings, Taiwanese style beef burrito and jumbo shrimp burrito. The chicken wings were flavorful and crispy. I would definitely get them again. The beef burrito was our favorite. The beef was seasoned well and tasted incredibly fresh The shrimp burrito was also delicious. It's a nice twist having it wrapped in a scallion pancake. They are much more filling than they look as well. I would definitely order from here again if I were in the area. I wouldn't recommend delivery unless you were super close otherwise you would miss out on the food being as delicious as designed. My parents ordered delivery for this meal because they wanted to try somewhere new so the food was a little cold and soggy, but the flavors were all still there. read more

This place is amazing!!! Having eaten at Buddakan and Sampan and seeing that the Bao chef came from both, I had very high expectations for Bao & Bun Studio. My expectations were not only met but exceeded! We tried five baos: pork belly, kung pao cauliflower, fried avocado, kung pao shrimp, and chili fish. Every bite was perfect. The buns had a just-right chewiness, the ingredients were super fresh and warm, even after a half hour trip home, and the seasonings and sauces absolutely divine! I can't wait to eat the kimchi chicken burrito I am saving for lunch tomorrow! Wonderful food! My family and I ordered the buns and they loved it! They were pretty quick with the order as well and they texted us when it was ready. We called and they came out with our food. The location was pretty hidden but I believe there's no store front. Just a commissary kitchen where they cook and you just have to order for takeout or delivery. It's still fresh and crispy when I took my food home. We ordered pork belly, beef shank, Kung Pao chicken, and black pepper buns! The pork belly bun was one of my favorites out of the ones we got. I didn't love the chicken ones as much but my family loved it! For me the actual meat was dry but the flavor and coating was delicious. I can't wait to try the rest of them! read more
