    The Sticky Chick
    Sukhmani K.

Every trip to Philly isn't complete without stopping here for baos. The perfect snack for mid-day hunger or a pre-game bite before a night out. This spot was a college favorite of mine, and it still brings back nostalgia with every visit. The Sticky Chick is hands down my top recommendation: flavorful, satisfying, and consistently delicious. Quick service and fresh baos make this a go-to every time I'm in the city.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Bao Nine is a great, centrally-located lunch spot with a fun blue exterior and bright interior.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Place your order at the kiosk up front and find a seat (it opens up more toward the back).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our table's food came out quickly and piping hot. We were impressed with the staffer who brought it out from the kitchen, who was both very nice and spot on when matching order-to-diner. I tried the chicken bao on special that day and the Crispy Chicken Bowl--choose your base (rice, noodles, or greens--I went with the latter, 'cause I knew I was having rice with dinner) and add a spicy sauce to go with the teriyaki sauce that comes with. Will definitely return to try more offerings!

The concept is kinda cool: bao with diverse filling options, from teriyaki chicken to pastrami beef and falafel. However, the execution is not there. It feels bland overall.

The meat and ingredients were good quality. I enjoyed the items we got for takeout. I wish the food was a little more flavorful but I enjoyed the items. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a cute shop and the employees were nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I was Visiting my sisters from California. They kept raving about a boa bun place they knew I would love. Turns out they were right! I live in the Bay Area so we have bao buns everywhere. I have to say These were some of the best bao buns I had! The bun was super soft and prepared well. If I could just order that I would. I ordered the sticky chicky and the bang bang bun. If I had to pick I would just get the chicken one and be fine with that as I feel there was more slaw than Shrimp. Nonetheless chicken was super good and packed with flavor! I can't wait to come back here on my next trip to Philly :)

I love bao buns and these didn't disappoint. Soft bao and flavorful fillings. Pretty fast service. I'd say exactly what kind of buns I got, but they gave me the wrong receipt - which is a bummer when you have to expense them. Ordered takeout so I guess I'll have to make due. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute place - I'd go here a lot of I lived in Philly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The Sticky Chicky and shrimp bao, Shishito Peppers

Love this spot near Rittenhouse Square! They have a wide array of different types of creative baos, and some bowls and side dishes. My favorite is the sticky chicky, which seriously brings the A game in terms of taste and texture. Shishito peppers were also bomb. Their drink selection is a little limited, with mostly canned options. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table - every time I've gone it hasn't been crowded so service was fast. In terms of price, 3 baos will run you $15, which seems reasonable, though I wish they were a little bigger.

Deck the halls with baos of holly! 'Tis the season for trying new foods. I was super excited to try bao buns for the first time. It was great that Bao Nine had a few vegan/vegetarian options to choose from and a nice selection of sides as well. I got The Garbaonzo - filled with falafel, tahini and some pickled veggies. Taste was there, though the falafel was a little hard? Not sure if it sat too long or if it was supposed to be that consistency. Additionally, I got the plant based bao and that was amazing. It tasted like a cheeseburger! The buns on both were soft and fluffy. I ordered the spicy crunchy cucumber salad on the side. It had a strong ginger taste but nonetheless was enjoyable. Not that spicy either. I'm curious about their bowls and dessert so I'll be sure to stop over again when I'm craving something new.

    Noodle bowl

Fun combinations, but not always as delicious as you'd expect. We got a noodle bowl with the chicken and beef. The beef was overcooked but had potential, and the breaded chicken was pretty darn good. The noodles are the cold type, with pickled vegetables and quite solid. The bao buns were beautiful, the buns them self were perfect and the food combos were fairly inspired, just didn't taste amazing. I would normally not order the thanksgiving mash up, but my SO did and that was actually one of my favorites. The buffalo chicken one I would skip, but the shrimp was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was quiet when we arrived right at noon but several other small groups showed up by the time we left.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Oh and the bathroom is serviceable if you don't look at it too closely[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Food was absolutely delicious! My company ordered a variety of bao buns for lunch and they were a big hit with everyone! I tried the Garbaonzo and the Yenta. Both delicious, filling and flavorful. Some folks mentioned Prime Time was just okay. The side dishes are also something people should not skip out on. I loved the shishito peppers, spicy crunchy cucumbers and Brussels sprouts. All sides deserve a strong 10/10. I will definitely be back and highly recommend getting these catered!

I walk past this place all the time and finally decided to pop in. A nice light lunch treat mid day. I opted for the Threesome which feels like a good deal considering the variety of bites. Got The Hot Motha Clucka, The Crispy Chick, and last but not least The Bang Bang. Each one was better than the last, but you really can't go wrong here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a dine in or to go spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great. The buns came out fast. Again great for lunch.

    Brad H.

Was looking for some quick food when in Philly recently and stumbled across this place. One of the more unique foods I've had in awhile. Their bao buns are all made perfectly. Super soft and flavorful. I had the hot motha clucka, which was a buffalo chicken style one, and the prime time, which was a cheeseburger style. Both were incredible and loaded with flavor. They are slider style so not super filling, which is perfect because you will want to try more than one.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm not a big fan of the Wawa style ordering screen at a restaurant. It made for a weird vibe in my opinion - like "we just want to do online orders and not interact with customers."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Anyway, the baos are small - you'll need three, so get the combo. They were fine compared to others I've had over the years. Not the best actual bao buns, but the fillings were decent and creative. I would highly recommend the mango black tea - that stuff was delicious.

I do prefer the shrimp to be more plump & flavorful, & my favorite ones tend to have sauces other than soy to drizzle on. My trio of items were a steal at barely $20. Nom Wah is an excellent pick for quality dim sum at rock-bottom prices. I arrived early to a mostly-empty restaurant which allowed their staff to be extra attentive. The waiter described what sauces & dishes he was placing on my table, & the waitress offered to fill my water bottle before I left, as it was a 90° day. A lovely first impression!

The sticky rice in leaf had a good consistency although small with minimal ingredients. The shrimp dumplings are a staple but maybe too much flour which made the outer layer too doughy and chewy. The pork dumplings are good although smaller and tasted more like the frozen variety. Service was slow although there was only one waitress for the several tables. She did fill my water but I had to ask. And seemed to be somewhat frugal when I asked for extra napkins and only received ONE?!? She did come back later and gave me one additional napkin without being prompted. The biggest advantage for this place is it offered shrimp rolls but there are many other options available nearby.

We ended up having to move another table that had just seated to get our preferred table sizes next to each other, but the staff accommodated it with some back-and-forth. Once we were there, there were carts going around. Enough to be regularly getting food without being too interrupted, but would have liked to have a few more options every once in a while. We also requested some Chinese broccoli early on in the meal, but it came out pretty close to the end. Seems like a la carte orders are not handled in a timely way during dimsum hours. Otherwise, dimsum food is standard quality, as good as expected, but nothing too wow-ing. Solid for the price and the vibes. It ain't too fancy here, but a solid choice for dimsum if you're craving it.

Food is ok, has certainly decreased in quality after COVID and is more expensive. There are other dim sum places within a few blocks that are much better quality. As others have said, the situation with their staff demanding 15-20% tip has made it so I will not come here again. A tip is not legally required. It is only legally required to cover the cost of your food as stated on the bill. I think the BBB needs to be contacted to investigate their practices surrounding tips and almost harassing customers into paying more than they wish. In addition, they have loud trucks every day disrupting the quiet street behind. Many elderly live there and are woken up by the loud beeping from the truck alarms, as well as trash truck coming VERY early and waking up residents. No consideration for those who live right there. I will be contacting the city about this issue as there was a similar problem in Fishtown and now that restaurant is no longer allowed to have trucks outside of reasonable hours disturbing residents. The trucks are also TOO large to safely turn into their loading station and people park their SUVs making the space even smaller. They constantly case a problem with traffic blockages because of the trucks unable to turn into the loading dock.

This place immediately came to mind after I read the reviews, and I ordered takeout tonight. I am very pleased to say that this was an amazing experience! I opted to do fairly simple dim sum, mainly because a restaurant that has "dim sum" in its name should shine in this category. I was able to place my order online, and had the scallion pancake, the pork, soup, dumplings, the chicken and shiitake dumplings, and the shrimp shu mai. The order was prepared, extremely fast, but very attentively. The packaging was thoughtful and protective, without being wasteful. They included a small container of delicious black vinegar/soy for dipping, and some chopsticks. All of the dishes were fantastic! My favorite was probably the shrimp dumplings, and I was happy that it was two for one night. Everything tasted very fresh and well-made. The seasoning was spot on, without being overly salty. My only regret was that after going to pick these up, I noted that the inside of the establishment appeared to be quite quaint and comfortable, and would definitely recommend that people check this place out for dine in options. The staff were very friendly, and made the pick up experience a positive one. So, if you're in the area and really want to have some dim sum, I would definitely recommend this place. I will most definitely be back in the future!!
