Best broth ever & great service! Will be coming again next time I visit my friends in Philly

I've tried to give this place multiple chances, but I'm done. I have a strict dietary restriction and have ordered food without pork several times. At least four separate orders have come out incorrectly with pork included. We do love their food and order 1-3 times a week- but they JUST CAN NOT GET IT RIGHT! While it was remade in the past, it's frustrating that such a basic request continues to be ignored. Tonight was the final straw. My order was once again made incorrectly, and when I brought it back, instead of correcting the mistake, I was told I was lying. That response was not only unprofessional but incredibly disrespectful. Avoiding pork is not a preference for me--it's a religious requirement. To have that repeatedly disregarded and then dismissed so rudely is unacceptable. I will not be returning. Would give 0 stars if it was an option. read more

This place has a very cool ambiance. I stopped in after work to grab my favorite Vietnamese food - banh khot (mini crepes filled with shrimp, scallions and coconut milk). The dish comes with lettuce, mint and pickled carrots and daikons. These are so delicious!!! I also ordered their iced coffee. It was a perfect balance of sweet and bitter. It was on the pricey end but the flavors were worth it. I don't think I can afford this consistently but definitely a place to check out if you're in the Rittenhouse Square area. read more

This restaurant claims to serve authentic Vietnamese food, but it misses the mark completely. We ordered the Bún Bò Huế and Bánh Canh, and honestly, instant noodles would have tasted much better. I am a big Ramen fan, and so when I heard that Vietnamese food can be similar, I tried Banh right in my Neighbourhood. Needless to say, the pho at Banh was similarly delicious and packed with flavor. The restaurant is stylistically simple and clean and the service was fantastic!. 4.5 for me - coming from jersey, this place is definitely better than some of the Vietnamese places I frequent. I got the bun bo hue (beef spicy noodle soup)- it was very delicious and the portion was fairly large! I also got the summer roll too, which tasted pretty standard. The food came out fairly quickly and the server was nice. It had a simple, bright and modern vibe to it. Seems like this would be a good place to go for lunch too if I was in this area. read more

Decent Vietnamese food in Philly city center. I really like the taste of their congee, I think it is because of the ginger. However, I don't really like the dồi. Bún thịt nướng is okay and portion is huge. This bánh bèo is probably the best I have had, but homemade is still better. cute neighborhood vietnamese spot in rittenhouse square/center city west! this little restaurant is a gem near me, the food here is consistent and delicious. my go-to item is the vermicelli rice bowl, it hits every time. the pork is so flavorful and the bowl is generously sized, i had leftovers to take home. the summer rolls were also on the larger end, neatly stuffed with shrimp on one side and pork on the other. my friend had the grilled pork banh which was also filled generously with meat. service was my main complaint. while the staff were friendly, they didn't pay much attention to the tables. our waters were empty for most of our meal, as were the waters of the table next to us. i learned that banh has happy hour 230-430 M-Th which seem to be quite affordable. i haven't been to their happy hour, but will have to check it out sometime. good experience overall! read more

Gah was really hoping for a win here, but the bun bo hue fell completely flat - so unfortunate because i've been scouring center city to get my bun bo hue fix but nothing has been doing it; including this spot, where the broth didn't have any depth of flavor, let alone spice. The beef inside was just okay and the noodles felt a little more than al dente. Even the chili oil they had was more oil than chili and didn't do much to help. The reason for the 3 star rating is solely based on their banh mi, which saved the day. It's great when a place gives as much attention to their chicken as they do their pork - the chicken was seasoned well, the accoutrements were fresh, and the bread was toasty. Only downside being that it was a bit dry - really needed more pate or mayo. read more

Banh Philly is a fantastic newer spot on Chestnut, serving up super authentic Vietnamese food. I stumbled in on a snowy day, looking for some warmth from a bowl of pho, and it did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious, and the servers were incredibly attentive. If you go, don't skip the peanut sauce with the summer rolls--you won't regret it. We tried the curry and pho, both vegetarian with tofu, and they were so flavorful and comforting--truly warmed my soul. Plus, the portions were very generous, so you're definitely getting great value for your meal. We also tried the Beauty dessert, which was... interesting! Probably a one-time order for me, haha, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. The cheesecake was delicious though!! Decent Vietnamese food. We visited Banh Philly early on a Thursday afternoon, and it was about half full. Acoustic guitar played over the speakers during our visit. The chairs are unique and there is ample Vietnamese decor around the restaurant. There are two televisions with one television playing a children's movie and the other television playing a video of street vendors preparing food in Vietnam. I tried the crispy and savory pancakes. Food is brought out as it's ready, so I ended up receiving my food about 10 minutes after everyone else. The pancakes were piping hot but were a bit bland for me. Overall, I had a decent experience at Banh Philly, but I would try another dish if I return. read more

This restaurant just opened and it's pretty good. Apparently it replaced another ramen restaurant and there were renovations inside. I got only two things, the crab spring roll and the banh mi. The spring roll was really good. It was very crispy on the outside and "juicy" on the inside. There were definitely good flavors and it was served with lettuce and pickled vegetables. And it also came with some kind of mint. The Banh "Pork Hoagie". I though it was funny they had to name it that, since most people know what a banh mi is. The banh mi had a couple of ingredients: Jalapeño, Pork, Cilantro, Cucumber, and pickled vegetables. The pork was pretty good. I enjoyed it, and it had a good flavor. I liked all of the vegetables too. It was a simple sandwich. One thing though, is I think the large piece of jalepano cut lengthwise was a bit too thick and spicy. I had to take it out because one bite would overpower the rest of it. The bread was OK. I felt like it was a bit too chewy or something. So the bread-food ratio was too much bread, even though the portions were good, and price was good. I might be back to try the Pho. It's not a pho place though, generally, as there is only 1 option for Pho. Service was good and fast. read more

Incredible new addition to Rittenhouse. One may not expect authentic Asian food outside of Chinatown but Banh is amazing. The space is open, clean and welcoming, menu is huge and carries some great Vietnamese classics as well as Vietnamese street food. We tried a lot of food and the chicken Banh Mi was excellent, the chicken wings, veg spring roll and Banh Khot which were both delicious. We tried the grilled chicken with broken rice and let me tell you the grill chicken is flavored to perfection. Service was awesome and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. Pretty good. Torn on whether I would go back or not, though. Had the rice vermicelli with pork and the appetizer salt and pepper chicken wings. There was an ample amount of pork in the vermicelli but I probably would have liked more of the pickled chopped veggies with it. The food here is absolutely fantastic. It also travels well. My favorite is anything with shrimp as well as the thaw as well as the bottom me. I feel like everything we ordered was amazing. I've already been here 4 times since discovering it last month . Really really really good food and the owners are sweet as hell . The food is a little more "cleaned up" than your gritty Washington ave establishment, but in the best way possible . And can still get a little more authentic if you're more advanced with a little prodding of the server ("do you have blood cubes ?" The answer is yes but they don't have them on the menu ) Their bun Bo hue, pho , tofu banh mi are amongst the best I've had . Brisket still has just the right amount of a touch of fat to it , which I love . The rice paper on the summer rolls is unparalleled and extra firm and chewy . Please help this place make it !! They also own a nail salon on 15th and JFK Which I'm keen to try as well . They took this over from a friend I understand and have improved things . The owners mom , I'm told , cooks all the food in the kitchen . Every time I think I ate the best thing in Philly, something else becomes the best thing I ate in Philly. This place is it!! I ordered takeout from here. Ordered the Northern Vietnam vermicelli with grilled pork, spring rolls, and a grilled pork banh mi. The vermicelli bowl was packed with every level of flavor - some spice, some sweet, salty, savory.. It honestly had everything and more. This was hands down the best I have ever had. The spring rolls were also good and basically all pork inside. Had the banh mi later while I was at work, and even eating it cold from the fridge hours later the flavors were incredible. It was like a 2nd act from the vermicelli. Everything fresh. I could not get enough of this food. I will be back next week when I'm in town for work again!! read more

We tried a decent amount of food from the menu and thought that everything was pretty good! My personal favorites were the pork bang mi and sugarcane shrimp. I also didn't take a picture, but did try the Ube smoothie and thought it was delicious!! There was one waitress and she was super nice and attentive. Overall, it's not that big of a spot, so was there for under an hour and thought that was pretty good. It's clean, cute, aesthetic and reasonably priced in my opinion. I was excited to try this place since I love Vietnamese food, but it just didn't measure up to the greats like Nam Phong and Pho Ha. The banh mi roll was nicely crunchy, but it was a bit tough. I bookmarked this place a while ago and was finally able to give it a try when my daughter wanted Vietnamese food. It's a small-ish fast- casual restaurant that offers byob. We arrived around 6 pm and the place was empty but by 7:30 it started to fill up. The food was very good. I ordered grilled chicken with broken rice and added an egg. The chicken was grilled to perfection and the egg was such a nice addition. My kid ordered the grilled pork with rice and her food was equally tasty. We also ordered the lotus stem salad with shrimp that was delicious! The flavors were popping and the salad was loaded with huge shrimp. My daughter also ordered a taro shake and I had to reserve myself from continuing to ask her for a drink. So good! The service wasn't great. It may have been due to the server being the only one on the floor but she was pretty unhelpful. I'm going to keep the four stars, though because the food was delicious . read more

The prices are reasonable for the area and the amount of food you get. I'd recommend the spicy beef noodle soup. Terrific spot for a fast-casual business meal near Rittenhouse--small dining room with 2- and 4-tops available for dining in--and it looked like it was doing a fair amount of take-out orders, too. To start, we shared an order of spring rolls--piping hot and crispy. I then tried the pork Bánh Mi, which was awesome--great roll and balanced flavors. My fellow diner tried the grilled pork with broken rice and had no complaints! Service was friendly and it was impressive that one server was covering all the tables plus take out orders. I got takeout from banh recently. This place is super close to where we live and it used to be a ramen place which closed down so we were excited that there was a new Vietnamese place that took its place. We just ordered a grilled pork banh mi to go and it was delicious! I would definitely say it's worth the price because it so big and it was 10 bucks. My boyfriend and I shared one for lunch. It was a Sunday afternoon and we did have to wait 20 minutes for our banh mi, but it was well worth it. It was very tasty for a reasonable price so I'm excited to try their other menu items sitting in. They are also byob which is always a plus! read more

A group of friends and I came here on a Wednesday night and were instantly able to get a table. The restaurant has a modern and clean look and the wait staff was very attentive and frequently checked in on us. I had the tofu banh mi and the tofu summer rolls. Both were very good. The banh mi had a nice toasted bun and had a lot of fixings in it. The tofu was seasoned well in the summer rolls. The others in the group also enjoyed their meal. This place has got to be one of my favorite Vietnamese places in Philly. The food is delicious and carefully plated. The pork vermicelli dish is amazing. I love how well the meat is seasoned and it comes in a sauce to keep it moist and not dry. Everything is super fresh. The ambiance is beautiful, they have beautiful bamboo walls, lantern lighting and cute tables and chairs. The service is wonderful as well. All the staff are super friendly.
