Bai Toan was fabulous! I messed the reservation up somehow but we got there at 5:30 and they accommodated us at the bar. Whew! The actual restaurant is beautiful and the moody lighting and colorful decor was cool and hip. Do kids still say hip? Whatever, it was hip. The cocktails were fabulous and we order waaaay too much food. I have to say, everything was amazing. See pics for what we ordered- the green papaya salad is my favorite and they did it right! Ask for their house made pepper/fish sauce to drizzle on top Coming from Atlanta where the Vietnamese is exceptional, I've really struggled in Memphis to find that amazing spot to get my Viet fix. Absolutely delicious! The tofu appetizer was so good, I decided to get the vegetable pho which came with more tofu. The pho had some of the best broth I've tasted in a Vietnamese restaurant! Cannot recommend the egg coffee enough, creamy beyond belief. The ambiance was classy and the service authentically warm. I have heard some really great things about this place so I was able to swing by and check it out for myself. The restaurant decor is very lovely and well thought out from the vibrant colors and textures down to the tables and chairs. I was warmly greeted and my waitress provided some guidance with the menu options and shared with me some of her favorite dishes. She was great! I ordered the Beef Pho and lemonade. I feel a little bad when a restaurant is hyped up because it's beautiful and food is subpar but This is not the Case! The pho was delicious, it was flavorful, rich with tender slices of beef floating throughout the most delicious noodles. I just wish I had a larger stomach to try more dishes. I'll have to come back. Man, is the decor in this restaurant beautiful. They really thought about everything. It was gorgeous! As well as the bathroom ha The whole vibe was so fun and the staff we met were very nice and welcoming. Our waitress was very helpful with navigating the menu and gave suggestions as well. We had reservations for a Friday night, and I would recommend doing that, because they were relatively busy. The main downside of this restaurant is it's bit on the pricier side for the meal, as well as the drinks. So it wouldn't be an all the time place that I could visit for dinner. But my food was flavorful and I enjoyed it. I do wish it was a little cheaper for what I got, but no complaints on the meal read more

I really enjoyed Bao Toan which is located at Crosstown Concourse. This aesthetically pleasing restaurant caught my attention when the wait time was 2 hours when it first opened up. I finally was able to book a reservation to see what the hype was about. You will receive a text message the day before explaining the reservation expectations, they allow a 15 min grace period after your allotted time and you only have 2 hours to dine. So make sure you get there on time. Parking wasn't bad, levels 2-4 in the parking garage are free for 2 hours. My friend and I were greeted and seated quickly. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and gave us some recommendations to try. We ended up ordering food we could share such as the crab fried rice , spring rolls, and the fish sauce wings. Let me tell you, we left no crumbs !!! I've never had crab fried rice before, didn't know that was a thing. You receive a big bowl of rice topped with crab meat and a circle fried egg. I which was seasoned to perfection. The fish sauce wings were sweet, you didn't need any dipping sauce to eat it because it was using that good ! Bao Toan in Crosstown Concourse it is 110% worth checking out! My friends and I came and split a bunch of things to eat and we had an incredible experience! I cannot stop thinking about the food. We started with a house made baguette and butter. It was soo fluffy and delicious. We also got the temple tofu which is lemongrass tofu made daily at the Buddisht temple down the street. So fresh! Incredible. We also had the beef carpaccio which was slices of beef with Pho spices. Yum!! For entree we split Ma's Ribs, Thit Kho, and Banh Xeo. The ribs were sauced and charred and fell off the bone, very good! Thit Kho is saucy braised pork dish over rice with hard boiled egg. It was very tender and juicy - comforting dish made with love. Banh Xeo is an egg crepe stuffed with meat and vegetables that you dunk in sauce. It was divine! Our server was so helpful and made recommendations for what to order! Dessert was a Pandan (Asian vanilla) crème brûlée which was an amazing blend of crunch from the Brulé sugar and creamy from the custard. We licked the bowl clean- great flavor! The interior is beautiful with plush seating and gorgeous art! There are many spots for pictures inside and outside. There is a full bar with craft cocktails and Asian flavors. I would recommend this place for a date night, eating with a large group of friends, foodies, and those wanting to try something new! This is a great option for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free. The foods were pretty darn good! The fish sauce is flavorful compare to most other viet restaurant. The flavor profile was mainly made for the banh cuon. I guess more different profile of dip sauce is needed for each different dish. We ordered banh cuon, bo tai Chanh, bun cha Ha Noi, ma ribs, BT platter, banh xeo, bo luc lac and tiramisu, braised bass, tamarins crab, ube creme brûlée etc. The herbs were extremely fresh. The banh xeo and banh cuon batter is little too thick. It would have been perfect if it was thinner. The grill pork was a little dried. The Vietnamese tiramisu was phenomenal! I stopped by Bao Toan and was really impressed by the vibe--chill, stylish, and great for a casual night out or a foodie date. I ordered the Bao Bao Shrimp, ribs, and truffle fries, and everything was packed with flavor. The shrimp was crispy and, the ribs were tender, and the truffle fries were amazingly good. This one is bittersweet. The ambiance is very good, the service was excellent, the food was pretty good but the prices were outrageous - the value isn't there. A party of 4 with 3 apps, 1 well cocktail each and an entree each came to $234 before tip - $284.00 total. For all 4 of us, while the food was good (not stupendous) the cost didn't come close to justify the value. I'm in the food business, a "foodie" and hate to be the price person, but I simply won't be back. I compare value at pricy places Flight Restaurant downtown where we could've had a flight of fine wine, salads, apps and meat based proteins and desserts and spent the same $$$ or less. This place is amazing! Perfect for a date night, catchup with friends, or a place to take the parents to try something new! We didn't make reservations and planned to grab a seat at the bar. It was a Saturday night and we were lucky to grab the last two available. Our bartender was incredibly nice. He helped us pick drinks and then walked us through the entire menu. We both ordered The Coconut Village. It was refreshing but watch out because it does have a little spice to it! My husband got the baguette as a starter and I got the coconut sticky rice. I love coconut sticky rice and theirs did not disappoint. My husband loved the baguette so much that he at the whole thing! We split the BT Platter for 2 so we could try an assortment of things. We had such fun creating our own spring rolls. The presentation was beautiful. The bartender walked us through the platter and while we couldn't eat quite the whole thing, we gave it our best shot. I seriously have never felt so anxious about a dinner reservation in my life. The frequency of the lengthy text message reminders is absurd. I get it, people don't show up and that's rude, but unfortunately, that's also the business. Once we actually got there, we saw the place is really very uniquely beautiful. We ordered cocktails and then waited and waited and waited some more. They were finally delivered by someone we found out later was the manager on duty. We were not fans of the cocktails. They are 4-5 oz and $14-$16. The only prevailing taste is sour. My husband sent his first drink, Vibrant Soul back and got a Terraced rice fields instead, and really was not any more pleased. I tried the lantern lit cakes. Not a fan, but I sipped at it anyway. My husband enjoyed his Fish Sauce Wings, saying they were "good", but not crispy enough. I like the seasoned shrimp chips they sat on. When it came time for the main course, my husband ordered the Thit Kho. He said it was good although the smell of the fish sauce was overwhelming. When he was almost finished was when my entree was finally served. This is a major pet peeve of mine that is becoming very prevalent in Memphis- "we serve the food as it is ready".I am a retired chef and I can tell you what that means - our kitchen staff doesn't bother to communicate or concern themselves with firing ticket times! This is really unacceptable and is a sure sign of an inexperienced chef. I ordered the Cà Ri Sài Gòn, a curry dish with tofu. As soon as I got it, I realized why it took so long to arrive. The chunks of food on it were enormous- huge pieces of not great tofu, carrots that were at least two big bites each, and a couple of potatoes. Pro tip - everything cooks quicker when cut into smaller pieces, say maybe, bite size. We were already unlikely to ever return, but when we were done, our server walked straight past us without a glance over to a table of 6 . She was there for over 12 minutes. Meanwhile, we finally flagged another server who fetched our check for us. There is absolutely no way we would waste our time on this place again. read more

This new spot is definitely worth the hype! All of the food was delicious and introduced me to some new flavors. The ambience is beautiful and well-curated. Our server was incredibly knowledgable and helpful. She was able to recommend a variety of dishes and was honest about which dishes would be best to share. We tried the egg roll platter, the thit kho, the crab legs (which was a daily special) and the mango sticky rice for dessert. If you are sharing with one other person or a group, you will need to order a few appetizers or maybe two of the main dishes. I felt the main dishes were a great size to share. This restaurant is beautiful on the inside, the decor provides a unique experience and ambiance. So many details from the colors to light fixtures, really nice. Our server gave us a lengthy overview of the menu and backstory of the restaurant. The fish sauce wings were really tasty, nothing your tastebuds haven't had before but definitely a safe option if you're not sure what to order. The crab fried rice was really good! The top of it is covered with egg & the fried rice is under it, it was soo good, lots of flavor, good portion. The drink I had was the coconut village and it was really good, definitely could taste the Thai chili kick. I ordered the $50 pho and it tasted old to me. The oxtail in particular tasted a little funky like it was in the freezer or fridge for a few days too long. Also while I apprehended rice noodles, packaged is better in this case. They're too mushy and the texture isn't quite right. The soup also lacked some flavor. The wagyu did not look like wagyu to me either. Presentation was nice but would not go back for this. I have been for lunch before and the bho kho is not bad. read more

I appreciate the Vietnamese dishes that are probably not offered at other Viet restaurants such as the yellow curry & thit kho (braised pork belly w eggs + rice). The food was pretty good for the most part. It's a beautiful place, especially for special occasions, date nights, etc. The ambience of the place was very nice and welcoming. I would definitely recommend people to visit at least once, it's much more of an experience place. However, as someone who's Vietnamese, the dishes don't quite match the overall atmosphere of the place in terms of quality + taste. The prices are very high for what is offered. I feel that if the food's flavor and quality can step up just a bit, it might make it the upscale Vietnamese restaurant it's trying to be. For example, the BT Platter for two is about $50-52. It comes with a variety of fresh veggies, vermicelli noodles, and proteins to be wrapped in rice paper to customize your own spring rolls. Although good, I don't see it as worth the price for many people. I've eaten at plenty of viet restaurants and have gotten a lot more in a similar dish for a much lower price. Our Ca Gi (yellow curry) was good enough, but again we were given maybe 2 pieces of chicken and a lot of taro pieces. Ours didn't include the carrots and potatoes that were also meant to be in there. It was nice, though, especially when you're craving viet yellow curry. You can't find it in most places around here! Also, Ma's Ribs were my favorite! Tried several cocktails and they were all great. The house in the clouds was perfect, not too sweet. A clarified milk cocktail was also delicious at the end of the meal. Food is served "tapas style" so it is not coursed out. They will bring out whatever you order right when it's ready so I would recommend ordering a few items and then ordering more.
