What a great little place in Memphis. The ambiance and decor is comfortable and chic. Service was fabulous and food was very good. I had the salad with big juicy pan fried shrimp. The 5/5 was because the bar and selection of bourbon was amazing. They had some top shelf bourbon including a selection of Pappy's!!! If you are in the area and want good food and drinks - check this place out.

River Oaks is classy restaurant with quality food. I tried their "jumbo" crab cakes and pan seared halibut. Surprised that the two crab cakes were not larger than two meatball and is a bit misleading to call them "jumbo" as how they are served in other parts of the US. The pan seared halibut is a well balanced entree with a high quality piece of fish, perfectly cooked green beans and homemade fried potatoes. I love that both appetizer and entrees are well balanced with protein and greens and vegetables.

I'd call this a true fine dining experience. It can be a special occasion or a quest to have delicious food prepared by amazing chefs. The moment you step inside, you're welcomed by an atmosphere of sophistication and elegance. You can tell the chefs here are well-trained and take pride in their craft. One of the chefs, and this is the really neat part, painted a massive, breathtaking fish painting that's a centerpiece in the restaurant. It's like having dinner surrounded by art. I mustn't forget to mention the salmon. It's so succulent and perfectly prepared that you'll swear it's the best you've ever had. And for those who are health-conscious or just looking for a unique twist, the cauliflower rice is an absolute dream. It's a testament to how this place blends classic elegance with contemporary tastes. So, there you have it, River Oaks Restaurant - a fine dining establishment that's like a time machine back to the refined dining experiences of yesteryears. They've got a mix of the old-school charm and modern culinary delights that'll leave you with a truly memorable dining memory. Bon appétit!

The food was very good, my entire family enjoyed their meal, and the waitress that our table was very nice (he deserves a promotion immediately his name is) (Ahmad) he was very attentive and literally the best waitress I ever had, my experience was the best here 10/10

    Chocolate Dessert, yum!

My wife and I celebrated last night where she enjoyed a chicken dish with beet salad. I had what I consider the best tuna I've ever eaten and it was perfectly prepared. Warm chocolate dessert was awesome. Photographs are attached for your review. Pleasant atmosphere where the service was great. This restaurant is easy to pass by and I don't recall any advertising. I assure you we will return. Though pricey, this was a wonderful meal. Thanks, River Oaks!

Chef Jose is a genius. This restaurant is absolutely stellar. We were lucky enough to dine in the private room. The set up was welcoming and cozy. Our server was charming. The food was incredible. Truly. And the presentation was gorgeous. The salmon appetizer, jumbo lump crab cakes, scallops, the duck, the filet, the apple purse for dessert. I can't say enough. We had one vegetarian in our group, and she was well catered to by our server. We were a lively group of 12. We ordered different wines for each course, and our eyes popped out of our heads at each pairing. This was my first trip to Memphis. Shall we return, we shall seek out Chef Jose!

Baked Brie with that amazing rustic bread

My take away impression is Meh. The food is really hit and miss. The tuna tartare was beautifully presented (as are all the dishes) but completely void of flavor. We also had baked Brie, short ribs, and tuna nicoise, key lime pie for dessert. The only thing we ate that night that was anything approaching outstanding was the rustic cranberry & pistachio bread served with the baked Brie. Everything else was just standard fare, not a place I'd go to again to drop $200.

Would rate 0 if possible based on service & lack thereof. I spent a week traveling in Memphis for work and had a semi free day on a Friday. In the midst of an errand filled morning I thought to begin planning my lunch around 10:30 considering most establishments open at 11. Good restaurants answer their phones whenever any staff are present and even better ones provide quality service whether business hours are present or not, yet BAD restaurants give customers and potential customers the exact attitude they allow & facilitate in house no matter the hour or occasion. Having never visited River Oaks but often passing and seeing it come up on Yelp I thought to call and inquire about their burger as I'm always on a quest to find the perfect one to suit sporadic cravings. Upon calling at 10:30a a woman answered the phone and I asked if they serve a burger, what is the price and what is it made of. She hastily said "We don't open til 11" to which I replied "I'm aware yet I'm trying to decide where to eat for lunch". She again repeated "We don't open til 11, YOU CAN CALL BACK AT 11", with a harshly disrespectful tone. She stated that her name was Melanie and I thanked her for helping me decide where NOT to EVER eat at. What a disgrace to humanity! Subsequently I called The Butcher Shop in Cordova moments later and was met with EXCELLENT phone service and an even greater experience once arriving. Their burger & service was impeccable. So glad I went there!

Food was out of this world with a unique take on presentation. Whipped Ricotta is some of best in the city. Service was great and ambiance is pretty solid!

Seared Tuna Salad. Beautiful and delicious!

Excellent food! We had a fantastic lunch. The crab cakes were perfectly done. Best crab cake I ever tasted. The chicken dish was amazing. The greens with the chicken were super fresh and delish. The lemon caper sauce with it was light, citrusy and balanced. Highly recommend this restaurant. The tuna salad was so pretty I didn't want to disturb it but drove in and loved it!

The ambience is always beautiful, with light jazzed and quiet conversations. But I would love to recognize Riley, who was my server. She was just the sweetest, kindest and the most thoughtful host. Every year that I've come and they ask what are you celebrating, and I mention my birthday was in a few days. She took the time to bring out the birthday duck with a candle, and it was just beautiful. She also helped me out with a solution to self parking. So kudos to Reilly please someone give her a raise. So onto the food, stellar as always there was only two things that I noticed, I missed the butter that goes with the scone, which I'm sure if I asked I would've received, but honestly, it was tasty without it. The only other thing is with a tea it gets weaker every time it gets refilled. Given that tea service price has increased to $65 plus the 9.25% sales tax and the 20% included gratuity came to about $90 (which was a little more than I was expecting, but inflation right). It would've been great to get the leaves changed out after the third pour, but other than that it was a 10 out of 10.

The chargrilled didn't taste chargrilled, because I could only taste the Parmesan, no garlic butter flavor at all. Oh as for appetizers, the bone marrow and crab au gratin, were great as well. I have tried so much in those two visits I can't remember everything! Fried oyster salad is full of oysters and less salad with blue cheese dressing that does not overpower the dish. A prime location for a prime steakhouse. The service was strong as was the pacing. I found the server a bit too eager to explain the restaurant and the menu. I'm a ribeye eater so I had a pretty good idea I was getting a ribeye before I went in. I think the talking is used as a way to upsell and push guests towards opaquely priced off-menu "specials" which from my understanding are always on offer (such as their deviled eggs and bone marrow sauce). We started with the beef tartare and duck ravioli. I preferred the tartare, which had a nice spicy seasoning throughout. The duck ravioli had an excellent sauce on it, too. For our mains, I got the prime boneless ribeye ($68) and my brother got the prime strip ($56). We also shared the Yume A5 Wagyu experience ($225), letting us try three different cuts of Wagyu side by side. For sides (about $15/each), we did the fontina potatoes, truffle honey tots, and carrots. We also added the gulf prawns ($21), foie gras ($14), and bone marrow sauce (~$20) which was prepared table side and was plenty to share. It was very rich and peppery, though a bit of a salt bomb. For dessert, we shared the French toast bread pudding with maple butter ($14) which is one of my favorite bread puddings I've tried. They also brought my brother a dessert since it was his birthday, it was something like a raspberry mousse with coconut foam and a sharp raspberry sauce. Excellent. The Yume experience was a big motivation in coming here, as getting to try cuts of A5 Wagyu next to cuts of regular (albeit prime) beef is unique in the Memphis area and really for hours around. It was priced as an experience rather than a food item. It did not disappoint, nor did the prime steaks. The A5 is so unbelievably tender by comparison. My favorite was the ribeye, but I'm biased. My brother, normally a strip guy, agreed with me there. The potato sides were underwhelming, particularly for the price. I don't know how I let my brother talk me into buying him $15 tater tots for his birthday. I could get the carrots again, though. My total was $800 for the two of us for the above food, six cocktails, and tax and tip. A big chunk of that was the Yume experience as well as the drinks (we were celebrating!). If we were to go back, it would be closer to $350 for the two of us, and I would go for the prime ribeye with foie gras again, no need for Wagyu or sauce. I enjoy the sister restaurants in this restaurant group (Coastal Fish, Flight, Southern Social) and frankly I'd bet Porch is the cash cow of the group due to the relatively poor value proposition. We had a great experience exploring the finest steak and accompaniments one could wish for. But, for my money, Coastal does a pretty good steak too.

I think the croissants are store bought nuked, they're a bit soggy and became rubbery as they cooled (not buttery/flakey). I ordered my side of eggs over-medium and they arrived over-hard. The breakfast, is over-priced. The location and ambiance should/could be exceptional. I'm clearly disappointed. (They might want to look at The Capital Hotel in LR for ideas.)
