Really enjoy this spot but the woman at the front cash register is quite annoying. My girlfriend, who is a club member of bar and garden, and I enjoy coming here every now and then on a Sunday for their wine tasting in the back room. I got to the shop ahead of my friend and asked the lady at the register if I could purchase two wine tastings and that one would be for a member. She said that she could not look up my friend's name and that she would have to pay in order to get the discount. So rather than letting me do a nice thing before she arrives I have to now wait for my girlfriend to show up. As I was walking away, the gal then asked me for her name, which wouldn't that go to prove that she is a member and wouldn't that have allowed me to purchase the two tastings? She even said "I'm sorry to be annoying" to which I replied yes, that is very annoying. The woman doesn't have much flexibility, obviously and says that people try to take advantage of the discount by saying their friend is a member.... Blah blah blah. The whole thing in general just doesn't make any sense. Don't be annoying, especially on a relaxing Sunday. The discount is what, a dollar or two!? Just look up the name and ask her when she arrives if she is who I said she was. Beyond f-ing annoying and bad customer service. Will be suggesting in the future to go down the street to Hi-Lo or somewhere else entirely. read more

Nice little wine and spirits shop in the quaint little village of Culver City. The shop has an interesting selection of wines and spirits. Megyn is super nice and knowledgeable about the Whiskey offerings and helped me to make the best choices for my taste. Tried the Frank August and I really like this sipping whiskey Perfectly Balanced and a fine recommendation. I then tried the Kings County and this Bourbon is SMOOTH. Great spot for buying small batch liquor from around the world! Love coming here for their $15 wine tastings on Thursdays and Fridays, they also have a pizza stand at the back to grab a bite with your bevs. The service is great! Super cool wine and unique goods shop. I had discovered the place on accident after stopping by a shop down the street from them on accident. Great selection of beers, natural wines, liquor and snacks. The guy working there was super helpful, helped me navigate through their wide variety of unique beers to find a hazy IPA that was absolutely delicious! I definitely want to come back for their wine tastings and to pick up a bottle of bourbon . I have been buying my wine exclusively from Bar and Garden since 2020. Since the peak of the pandemic. I also have been in their monthly wine club for just as long. The wine selection is great. Like most people during the pandemic, we were buying a lots of wine. That said, since the store has reopened to allowing the public inside the whole vibe there has been different. Sometimes they have tons of inventory other weeks bare shelves. The main owner Ryan moved away to Ventura. He really knows his stuff and could talk you through the selections they have when he was on site. Since he has departed, but still is an owner, the other staff/owners are subpar in comparison, often rude or indifferent (Chris has always been kind). For a small business, one would think customer relationships would matter to them. I guess not. I'm happy to take my business elsewhere, perhaps just down the street to Hi-Lo wine store and just maybe after 3 years of giving them my money every month, they will be polite and remember my name with my credit card on file. This place has an amazing selection of wines and a lot of them dry and relatively affordable, just the way I like it. They have a small and great selection of beers and some hard alcohol. We actually subscribe to their monthly wine club which gets us two bottles for $40. They have different versions of the club, we get the "Zebra" white+red combo. And they've almost all been amazing! I have not been let down by their selections. The wine club gets you a 10% discount on everything in the store also, which is great because I go relatively often. A super cute and quaint wine shop. I came here on a Friday for their $5 for 5 tastings. It was a blast. I enjoyed the wines and hanging with my friends. It's small shop so there isn't much seating, but we were able to snag a couple seats. It was crowded, but not to the point where it was uncomfortable and getting our tastings didn't take that much time either. Parking was easy, there were lots of metered spots. This is honestly the best wine shop in LA especially if you like low production and low intervention wines and unique spirits and beer. The staff here is always helpful and the selection is super diverse. They also have multiple price points for wine so you can walk out of there with a nice bottle of wine that is natural and minimally processed, usually biodynamic and/or organic, for like $12, sometimes less. They also have higher priced hard to find wines from obscure places too! I'm local & frequent another high end liquor store & usually get beer but figured I'd check about gin here. Pretentious douche there proceeded to mansplain to me about gin although he didn't even have nor hadn't heard of the two English gins I mentioned originally looking for. A one stop shop for people who like quality alcohol. May it be single malt scotch, whiskey, rye, beer, fine spirits or variety of local and international wines. This place has something unique to cater needs of the customers of different alcohol taste. The staff here is amazingly friendly, they helped me find some California Zinfandel and all the wines they carry are sulfite free. I would like to attest again, it's a very interesting store as mentioned by fellow yelpers. B & G stores the information of every purchase order per customer so the next time you need not remember what you bought and they can recommend you similar stuff based on your choice. It's a great way to serve and retain the customers. The price is very affordable for the kind of organic, chemical free alcohol range they carry. Cool boutique alcohol shop and event space. The event space is actually down the street from the shop ( I believe they call it the bar and garden annex). The collection of alcohol here is quite limited, but its well curated, everything they have here is small batch, organic or limited edition. Lots of unique stuff you won't see at most liquor stores or even large places like BevMo or Total Wine. They also host cool events at their event space, I went to a Mezcal tasting here and it was awesome. They had a mezcal ambassador who guided us through about 20 different kinds of mezcal's and then we did a cocktail making class afterwards. Very well done and fun. read more

Went for a "Meet Up" event with a friend. The place is a cute little wine shop with very friendly staff (couldn't tell who the owners were), but I don't think it's conducive to a wine tasting event. There is no seating except for a couple of, um, pieces of wood (really). So the back room where the "bar" area is gets crowded and very warm very quickly. And you're just standing around holding wine. There is no "flow" to the room. So it's a cute place, but they need to put in a sofa or some other comfy seating if they want to encourage more wine tasting events. Right now, it's just not set up properly for that. read more

After leaving my usual, large, westside, holiday go-to wine + shop on Cottner due to aggravation and the decision to not give them my money, I came to B&G and picked up just what I was looking to bring to my friends' home for Thanksgiving: a French Champagne, a French Burgundy, and a California Cab-Merlot blend. Wow! All were excellent and well-received by my friends who have particular tastes, and my husband and I both thought they were great as well (we do not always agree.) Not only good wines, but I spent half of what I had budgeted to spend at that other place. B&G is my new go-to for different and fun labels. Pet-nats, biodynamics, natural wines, orange wine, vin de gris, and Eastern European wines flow here like water. Exotic, but not pricey, that is, there's no magnum Laffites on the shelf. There is not a Parker point shelf talker and shit. All kinds of props for having a refrigerator large enough to hold lots of cold wines. Why is this notable? Shelf space in the fridge are definitely dictated by large distributors who know that impatient alcoholics will grab whatever's cold on the fridge, and so retailers are 'incentivized' to put big hulking wineries garbage in the fridge. Great, cute spot with unusually nice decor for a liquor store, and an outstanding selection of wines and liquors that would be impossible to find at most places. And at pretty reasonable prices! The guy working the counter when we were there was also great. He was very friendly and helpful, although the place was crowded the evening we were there, so we weren't able to get as much in terms of personal suggestions as we would have liked. But I can hardly blame him; he had lots of people to help. I will definitely be back. Along with Bar Keeper and Wine Expo, this was one of my favorite liquor shops in LA. read more

I defy you to not love this shop. The owners, Marissa and Lauren, and everyone who works within the establishment are complete stars. It is ALWAYS a pleasure to go in and have a chat and learn about some new vino. The tastings are also really fun and a lovely chance to try a few new varietals and have a blether to some of the Culver locals too. They also have an excellent selection of spirits, non-boozy drinks and cheese and chocs. All of which are devoid of horrid chemicals and pesticides (so basically you get no hangover at all, EVER). (Ok, maybe a little- but not AS bad). There really is no downside, except for the fact that you may intend to dash in to grab a quick bottle of vino for a friend and instead depart with a drink or three on board, some newfangled knowledge, a friend or two, and three or four bottles in hand. They also do the odd social occasion at a premises down the road with eats and drinks galore. Definitely something much needed and appreciated in the community. If I had one bug bear at all I wish it didn't close quite so early. However I am a person that works rather funny hours so I am quite sure servicing my personal requests wouldn't necessarily serve the business. Utterly brilliant shop. Proceed without caution. What a perfect spot. These owners so thoroughly get it, it hurts. From the concrete floors to the rustic shelving to the old wooden crates used as wine bins, everything is stunning. I love the wood. They seem to really appreciate Bourbons, Ryes, Gins, Amaros, bitters, and shrubs.... all the good stuff. It is a thoughtful, curated selection.
