Placed an order via Minibar.com. Ordered early in the day for a Zoom cocktail party that evening (yes, I've become one of those people). Prices were surprisingly reasonable. Delivery fee was only $2.99. They were out of the vanilla whiskey I wanted... but they called promptly and gave me some options. Best of all, they were here in about 30 minutes. In a pandemic! Delivery can't necessarily be contact-less as they need to see your ID, but the delivery guy maintained proper distance and was efficient and friendly. What a terrific find this place is! I only started coming here after the renovation but I remember this spot being in the neighborhood for years. I've made it a sort of weekend ritual, picking up coffee from Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and walking over to see what craft beers they have in stock. In quick glance, the have a huge selection of spirits, liquors and wines. It is nicely organized and lit and their prices are comparable to places like Bevmo and the supermarket. For anybody who make it a point to support local businesses like me, this is one to check out. What I dig is their selection of single bottle and cans. It cool to sample something before buying a whole case. I have found a few of my favorite brews and have came back the week later to buy a case after sampling it. read more

What impressed me the most on my last visit was the vast selection of chilled white wine and high end whiskey, where just about everything is good enough to score points on a date, or fine enough to impress your well-heeled mates. I discovered reasonably-priced luxury brands that are usually found in neighborhoods five times the rent. This is a place where the selection is curated by the owner, who seems quite knowledgeable, and has tailored the customer experience to attract persons of discriminating taste. You'll find Mid Town in a nondescript strip mall, in the triangle that divides San Vicente and Olympic, just East of Fairfax, caddy-corner to Shakey's Pizza. The two cousins there (sorry, I forgot your names) was so helpful. I found that the place was conveniently located in a perfect spot that has easy access to go in and out and ample parking space. I stopped in yesterday to grab a couple of things for my birthday celebration, and this place has it all. I struck up a conversation with the owner and he was very knowledgeable, and friendly. Beyond that, they have a 300+ craft beer selection, wines, and quite a lot of spirits. Notably great Scotch, and Bourbon. As a bartender, I can definitely get lost in their selection. The location can be hard to spot, but it's worth finding. They have a great selection of beer here and the owner was really friendly. I don't mind spending a couple more dollars on a good beer and it's nice to find a place with a good variety. When I was there they had two ladies selling jewelry inside the store. But I was most impressed by their craft beer set (nicely curated and refrigerated, to boot). I see very few covid safety measures in this store, despite the appropriate signage. I've been several times and every time there has been a worker, stocker, as well as patrons not wearing masks and loudly non-stop talking... Even after a frail very elderly person walked in to shop, they just spewed hot air right over her. Hey owners, you should at least try to set an example and protect your older more vulnerable clientele. Many walk to your store from the area. read more

Sometimes sketchy and the owner doesn't seem too friendly. I'm guessing it's the owner's son that works sometimes, he's much more friendly and welcoming, but the old guy is a freakin' crab. Prices can fluctuate from one visit to the next ($5.25 to $5.50 to $5.25 to $5.40 to $5.25 for a pack of American Spirits?), but it's within walking distance to home. 23May2006 update: Maybe the old crab read this review. He's been more pleasant, but it still skeeves me out when he decides to wear the latex gloves. The prices still fluctuate. Last week I went to buy a pack of smokes and I gave him $5.25, not sure what the price was that day, and he sort of shrugged, I sort of shrugged, and the deal was done. The next day I went back (my cat can't keep his paws off of them, he coughs like a maniac) and he said "$5.40." And some new guy is in there now and then and he tells me $5.25. Fuuuuuck. read more

Pretty good beer selection and Sierra Nevada six-packs on sale for $6.99. Pretty poor food selection but I'm rating it as a liquor store so we'll overlook that. Why the one-star rating? I bought said $6.99 six pack today and my total was $8.90. I asked why it was so high and he said, "Tax and CRV. You go to Ralphs, you pay $10." You know why I'm not at Ralphs? Because I don't want to pay $10. I said that that seemed high to me and that they charge less at the liquor store I frequent on Hauser and San Vicente. He went to grab money out of the register to give me more change (a sure sign of guilt if you ask me) but I just said not to worry about it and left. Just did research. Here's what he should have charged me: $6.99 - six pack 6 x 5 cents per bottle CRV = 30 cents CA sales tax 6.99 x 8.75% = 52 cents TOTAL: $7.81 So he overcharged me by $1.09 Times are tough but you know what? Great selection, this guy keeps his finger on the pulse of what's new in the beer and liquor industries. If you've ever read a beer/liquor magazine/website and saw something in there that you thought "man, I wish I could find that", he's going to have it. This is a hidden gem in the area that deserves more love, because when you walk in there you'll see how much love the owner puts into the place.
