Two friends and I, (all men- 30's to 50's two black -one white all professional men) called Bar A on a the day after the 4th of July to check on the wait for dinner. We were told there was no wait and in 5 mintutes were at the door. We were greeted by an employee outside, obviously security, and told that begining at 8 PM a dress code was in effect and that all men had to wear sleeves on their shirts...I asked him if he could make an exception as we drove down for the day and did not have any other shirts we could wear..he could not. I told him we were there for dinner and he said he doubted we would get a table due to the crowds...I mentioned that we were told there were plenty of tables available...but no go. Be aware of bag policies before going in. I have been here several times with my purse with no problem. One time, an extremely rude girl working there on a Friday evening immediately tells me I cannot bring the bag in anymore due to the 911 laws and it was "all over their website". I went to their website and saw the following regarding purses: "All bags that are allowed, but deemed questionable, (including large purses) are subject to search prior to entering the establishment. However, individuals are free to refuse the bag search and enter the establishment without the questionable bag". Therefore she could have just done a simple search of my bag. I returned home to drop off my bag, and greeted the security workers, the same girl was not there. They expressed little to no interest about my inquiry on the bag policy. They basically said it was up to the discretion of whoever was working at the time. This absolutely makes no sense as the policy should be uniform. My family of five were INVITED guests to a party at BA. We drove four hours in traffic up from Delaware. We went in with no problems and got our wristbands. My sons are 24, 27 and 28. At 9, my two sons left to go get liquor right next store, to put in the car for later before the liquor store closed. They were told they couldn't re-enter because one had a TANK top on (a nice one ...not a T). They went to change, then a bouncer called my 27 year-old son over out of line to EXAMINE his license. YES, it was a duplicated license from DE but he had several other forms of ID. They wouldn't allow him back in to his own cousins graduation party. He was not impaired or anything. My son said he was from DE and the bouncer said, "Then you are stranded and you better start walking". I then went and tried to talk to them to show them my DE license and that he was indeed my son. They sent me out front. The ASS bouncer then gave me attitude and wouldn't allow my son back in. I told him I was just going in to get my expensive camera and would leave too. The ASS bouncer wouldn't let me back in to an INVITED party. He actually told a Bike Cop to get me out of there. I am 53 and have NEVER been told I couldn't enter a bar. I had two beers by this time so it had NOTHING to do with being impaired, etc. All of us had been at this party for two hours, had been ID already, had wristbands, etc. SEVERAL other guests from this party were treated rudely and not allowed in. To have INVITED guests, or anyone treated this way is shameful. DISGRACEFUL HOSPITALITY. I can promise you one thing - I would NEVER let anyone treat my family members or my INVITED guests this way. I would like to give this pathetic place negative 10 stars. Trashiest, most stupid low class place I've ever been to in my life filled with beer slugging kids. Like other reviewers mentioned, the guys working the door are A-holes (there's a reason its called Bar A) and they make up reasons why they won't let you in. In my case, it was because I'm from New York City and a bit older than their 21 year old clientele. I was with a large group of people ranging in age from 25-30 there to celebrate my cousin's 30th birthday last Saturday night. My group all had NJ driver's licenses and got in just fine. Then came me. I'm a very young looking 40 year old from NYC, very pretty, sophisticated, stylish....Door guy took one look at my NYC license and date of birth and suddenly decided he "needed to ask me (and only me) a few questions to make sure I wasn't too intoxicated to enter the bar". AGE DISCRIMINATION MUCH, BAR A!? Uh. I hadn't had one drink before arriving. OK. I was standing there and hadn't even said one word nor did he ask anyone else in my group any questions. I was then told by the bouncer to "recite the alphabet." I did so. The bouncer then told me I was "too intoxicated" and couldn't go in, and that I needed to step off the line and on the other side of the barricade away from the club to "sober up". My friends and cousins had already entered the club and didn't even know what happened to me. I was left stranded. I finally got on the long line again and went to another bouncer and got in just fine. Once inside, i noticed it was packed with obviously intoxicated college aged kids slugging beers out of cans (real classy!). But yeah i was too intoxicated to come in and had to sober up! LOL! I went up to the bar and asked for a Chardonnay and was told they didn't have any wine - at all. They don't stock wine. They didn't run out. They just never have it. LOL. Okayyyy. Like what the actual Fcuk! Is this a Jersey thing? OMFG. I think maybe this could have been a scene straight out of the movie DELIVERANCE. I wanted to kiss the soil when I got back to NYC. My friend wasn't let in because in her license her hair is long (mid back) and she recently got a hair cut (above the shoulder). They not only didn't believe it was her (she's months away from being 25), but they told her it was duplicate license (because she had her wallet stolen and had to get another license) and they don't allow people with duplicate licenses in the bar. NO where does it say they don't allow duplicate licenses. So, because she got a hair cut and got her wallet stolen and had to get another license, she's not allowed in? Might be a good outdoor dance spot with the right DJ. If you like being treated like just another idiot then go here, that is pretty much their attitude towards you- the customer. The place is huge, has pretty good food and the best part is Beat the Clock (0.50 little beers at 8 PM, increases 0.25 every hour) on Tuesdays with a $10 cover charge after 8 PM. I had a lot of very fun nights here, mostly on Tuesday but we also decided to rent a Cabana on a Saturday for my 27th BDay here last year, about 14 of us. The total bill was almost $1,000 and we had such a good time that every time Bar A or my birthday has come up in conversation in the 11 months since, everyone who was there says how they can't wait to go back. Not anymore.. I had a similar situation to a lot of user reviews I read on here . Their attitude is pretty much they will do what they want and let people in based on ...? I don't know what. After being told my ID was a "duplicate" I stood there DUMB FOUNDED, everyone on line looked like they just turned 21 or 22, I am 27 and don't look any younger than 23 or 24. After sounding like a complete idiot trying to explain their "duplicate ID" policy the slower than James Franco bouncer told me I could speak to a manager. I stepped outside of their rope and saw my GF and 21 year old friend waiting also, so 3 out of the 4 of us had an ID problem. The manager examined my ID and the GF's ID and was going to let us in he could see we were clearly old enough- so why were we turned down in the first place!? He then examined my friend's ID who works in plumbing driving Trucks so has a commercial truck "Learner Permit" he was told Bar A does not accept permits, only driver licenses. So if you are over the age of 21 but don't drive, you are not allowed at Bar A. Don't forget EVERY single photo ID you have ever taken in your life if you "anticipate" getting in here. The door policy doesn't make sense because they turn down people who are obviously over the age of 21. I still can't figure out why they turned down our ID's the "duplicate" thing is just stupid, I challenge any BAR A employee to comment on here and explain it because the bouncer I talked to was just very dumb or just still hasn't come up with a good way to BS his way through their "duplicate" policy/ excuse to turn down people they don't like based on the way they look . I asked if the cop could prove if it's real so I would be allowed in and they laughed. I spoke with the police officers outside and they said they have their own policy and consistently kick people out. My boyfriend ( a 26 year old teacher) had a federally compliant duplicate ID and when we tried to discuss the authenticity of the ID and alternate ways to further prove his age, the manager Tim told me to "shut my mouth". I would rate this place ZERO stars if I could. My friends and I came to Jersey and heard about this place. One of my friends (who is Black), attempted to get in with her STATE-ISSUED ID (she doesn't have a license because she doesn't drive). The bouncers asked her if she had a license or another form of ID and she told them no that she doesn't drive but she has her debit card. They refused to let her in. However, my other friend (white male), was asked the same thing yet he was let in. We were all livid and we called the place and kept getting hung up on. I went to the all you can eat seafood event that occurs every Sunday at Bar A. We got there at about ten of five and were told that there was an hour and a half wait. So we had a few drinks and stood by a table where a few friends were eating their crabs. As it got closer to the hour and a half, we went to ask the hostess when she was going to call our name, where she then told us that she thought we were going to join my friends table, and thats why we havent been called yet. When we told her we had no intention of joining that table, she told us just to take that table when they were done. As my friends were paying the check and we were getting ready to sit down, this bald manager with a cocky attitude tried to take one of the tables from us. When I explained what the hostess had said he didnt believe me and said he would go and take care of it. When he returned he said we could have the table but insisted we put our names in with his hostess, even though I told him numerous times that we had done just that, he wouldnt listen and kept repeating himself. I guess it was too complicated for his thick skull to comprehend. We waited another 15 minutes before our waitress finally came over to take our order. We ordered 5 all you can eats and the remaining people ordered hamburgers. We again waited another hour before the waitress decided to come back over to us and inform us that there were no more crabs left. (despite seeing many plates of crabs going to other tables). The dumb bald manager said he would comp what we had already ordered which was only four hamburgers and a few drinks (most of us had been going to the bar for drinks since we rarely saw our waitress). When we asked the low life manager what the five of us were going to eat, he said he couldnt comp us anything because he didnt want to give away expensive food. He said the best he could do was take 40% off of whatever we ordered. The manager also tried to blame us not getting seated or any crabs on the previous customer! I have never been anywhere where the manager doesnt take the blame and tries to pass the blame onto a customer! At that point we left as i was fed up with Bar A and did not want to give any more money to that establishment. I went to Bar A on Memorial Day with 6 of my friends who are all over 21. We ended up waiting in line for an hour and a half and when we finally got to the front of the line, they would not let my friend in because she could not provide a second photo ID (even though she had various other forms of identification). She was immediately kicked out by the HORRIBLY RUDE staff who seemingly wanted to embarrass her. One staff member (a woman with blue hair) was genuinely terrible and would not let us speak to my friend who got kicked out, and threatened repeatedly to kick us out as well. She was so condescending and mean that my friend started crying. When I tried explaining the situation, this particular staff member simply laughed and threatened to kick me out with my friend. Because of my experience with this one horrible staff member and the clear indication that this establishment cannot hire decent staff members, I will not be returning to this place any time soon. read more

GREAT place for happy hour, especially if you are over 30.............. HAPPY HOUR, not saying it's great afterwards, actually when they start playing the horrible dance music after 8:30 it's time to leave. But if you are looking for a FUN happy hour, this is it! Drink specials go to 8pm (what is up with some happy hours that END at 6pm, alot of us workers are just getting there) and they have a huge FREE buffet every Friday afternoon with very good food. Also there are passed appetizers that are going around. The local radio station G-Roc 106.3 is usually there giving away CDs, t shirts and other stuff. The trivia contests are a blast, depending on the category that week-TV, music, sports, history you can walk away with some cool stuff-T shirts, FREE BEER, passes to local activities..........you should see my t shirt collection! Bacardi Artie is the host asking questions and making sure everyone is having fun. They have different themes most weeks if there is an upcoming holiday or big movie coming out. Beat the clock is the only night worth going for. Tuesday nights, arrive before 8 to get in free. $8 to get in after 8pm. Beers start at 50cents and go up one quarter every hour until midnight. When I say beer I mean 3/4 of a can poured into a small plastic cup. Miller light ONLY, which I don't prefer, but you really have no choice if you want to participate in beat the clock. It is extremely crowded, so much so that you have to slowly walk everywhere constantly pushing you're way between crowds of people. Drinks WILL get spilled on you as you're making your way through people, and forget about getting a beer quickly. Everyone orders 2-4 beers at a time so that they don't have to return to the bar again for a little while. In the meantime you will have to pee about 4-10times during the night, and I'd say get in line at the first feeling of having to pee, because you WILL wait in line anywhere from 5-15mins each time you have to go. By 11pm, there are people passed out in the bathroom stalls, people are falling over (not being able to stand straight). One good thing I can think of is the shot wheel located in the far back of the bar, and the sand area with private cabanas in the back. Cabanas are expensive, but may be the only way to actually enjoy personal space in the bar. Dancing is limited because everyone just stands around and talks, but there is a DJ under a tent in the back, and usually a live band inside the hot indoor bar. Casual dress only, nothing too nice because it will be drenched with beer by the end of the night. The only reason I gave it any stars at all is because I LOVE people watching, and there are plenty of opportunities there. The shot wheel is also worth checking out. read more

Admittedly I can't talk about the bar itself because I never got the chance to go. That said, the reason I never got the chance to go is because their ID policy is infamous for being ridiculously obstinate. Basically before going, I knew they wouldn't accept my license as sufficient ID because it was a duplicate. On the website, it says the only type of ID they would take is a license(non-duplicate) or passport with a photo. Knowing that I had neither, I thought it might be wise to call the place myself and discuss the issue. Over the phone, I explained as clearly as possible that I only had a duplicate license but multiple forms of secondary ID, with a photo which they seem to stress. First I talked to some woman in the general questions area about the problem... Frankly, I probably would've gotten further talking to a brick wall. I described my situation and kept getting the same generic response,"look at the website" over and over again. This person is in general questions and can't give me a simple yes or no response to my question? Frustrated that I got absolutely nowhere, I looked up the managers name and called his line. That was also a mistake because although the response was slightly different, the end result was exactly the same. He kept telling me it was at the security guard's discretion as to whether I would get in or not. When I asked for something a bit more definitive since I wasn't ready to drive an hour out of my way for nothing, he only became more and more condescending despite my obvious willingness to work with him. In the end, I didn't go since I wasn't ready to risk not getting into the place but some of the stories I've heard since make me scratch my head even more. I've heard multiple people tell me that even a passport with photo ID didn't work for them, which would be contrary to what their website says... Everything considered, I can kind of understand the reasons for such a strict ID policy, especially since this place is so well-known. What baffles me though is how ambiguous the staff seems to be about the policy. The fact that they seemed more willing to let me drive an hour out of the way and possibly not get in, instead of giving me a straight answer over the phone is what irks me the most. Nonetheless, in time this place will lose its popularity since all good things always come to an end. Unfortunately though, that's probably what it'll take for them to loosen up and smell the coffee. Went for a late lunch and the service was terrible. We waited 15 minutes for a menu. Food came out slowly and all extra things we requested (multiple condiments) were forgotten at least twice PER ITEM. It was a hot day, the first round of water brought out had a bug in it. The next round took literally 25 minutes and two requests (1 request was answered by my waitress with a rude comment) before it came out. Instead of waiting those 25 minutes I went to the bar and filled my own water up by asking the bartender (nice girl). I pulled in the parking lot to pick up my girlfriend and 2 bouncers approached my car screaming that I pulled in the wrong entrance. I apologized, they called me an idiot, moron and proceeded to put there hands on my car, faces in my window and antagonize me to step out of the vehicle and fight them so that their actions could be justified. My girlfriend works at this bar, I pull in the same entrance 6 nights a week for 5 weeks now. The 2 bouncers then said my girlfriends job is now in jeapordy because "I'm too dumb to read a sign" Today I was disrespected and antagonized. If this bar is trying to bring people of class inside they surely will never do so with people of that character and aggression working in the front. I'm a local, going to this bar for over 12 years I've seen the trash 21 year old kids destroy that disgusting bar and not a word has been said to them. My girlfriend works 7 hours a day 6 days a week with a 3 year old daughter, she picks up extra shifts, works late and this is how staff treats her and I for simply making a wrong turn? Disgusting. I wish I could give zero stars. This is the worst experience I've ever had trying getting into a bar at age 23, and after seeing the other similar reviews I felt like I needed to write about my experience. It was my first time going here and my friends were excited to take me as I heard that it is a fun place. Unfortunately I was WRONG. The bouncers clearly pick and choose who they want to let into the bar because my girlfriend and I got in with just our licenses, meanwhile one of the guys we were with was required to show a second form of PICTURE id because their license and credit cards weren't good enough. They didn't let our other friend in who has a passport and they tried to say "we need documentation proving why you need to use a passport instead of a license to get into a bar". My sisters husband is a cop and it is completely illegitimate to require that for getting into a bar to drink alcohol. They were complete jerks about it and when they said "there is no chance you are getting into this bar tonight" my friend raised his voice and a woman bouncer comes up to me and says "ha, if he didn't start yelling he probably would have been let in, but now he definitely won't be" but I said to her that the only reason he started yelling was because they said he has NO chance. It's a psychological game that they try to play with people and they really do pick and choose who to let in based on the guy to girl ratio and it is completely unacceptable. My friends and I ended up going to LEGGETTS SAND BAR with NO problem and had THE BEST TIME EVER! The bouncers gave us no issues and told us that they used to have a similar policy, but that the owner changed it a few years ago because it is an unfair reason to deny someone with a PASSPORT. We will NEVER be going back to bar a and my friends and I plan to steer anyone who wants to go there away from such a terrible establishment.
