We had the beignets - a brunch appetizer - which was a first. They aren't New Orleans style copycats, but they are very good. A good take on a Louisiana classic. I had the Charley breakfast - 2 eggs, bacon, and potato cake. Eggs are eggs, the bacon was excellent, the potato cake I'll probably skip next time. Not bad, you might love it, just not my cup of tea. My wife had French toast and it was A+++. Really good. We were very sad when it was gone. Daughter had the salmon Benedict - rave reviews. I tried her spring mix salad and it was so fresh. Delicious. Look, there are plenty of good things about Bar Charley that make it a staple in Dupont. The space is nice, there's a ton of bar seating, and the bottomless brunch is a good deal. Everyone working here is nice and the service is quick. We started by splitting an order of the beignets, which I don't think are all that good. They're on the smaller side, which isn't a problem, but they weren't fluffy at all. They were crispy on the outside, but the inside was close to hollow, so you don't get the experience that you expect with a traditional beignet. I ordered the farm egg omelette and a pomegranate mimosa, both of which were solid. Nothing stood out, except for the potato cake, which was crispy and not as dense as I thought it would be. read more

The food was forgettable, but the real insult came at the end with a sneaky 2.95% fee slapped onto the bill. Instead of paying their kitchen staff properly or having the basic integrity to price their menu honestly, this place hides behind a bogus "adjustment" charge and hopes customers won't notice. If your business model depends on quietly squeezing extra money out of people rather than paying your staff a fair wage, that is not clever, it is pathetic. Raise your prices like a legitimate restaurant and own it. Do not disguise it as some made up fee and expect customers to subsidize your payroll. My parents and I were there a few minutes before they opened at 10 am this beautiful Sunday and were immediately met with great service. The bartender invited us to sit down while we waited for the host and went further to provide us each an iced water during the wait. We started off with the beignets which were delivered fast and warm. I ordered the salmon Benedict which was delicious and came with a tasty spring salad mix. This was a great bar with cool drinks and food. They made it special for my birthday with sparklers with our dessert as well. The blue cocktail I got was so pretty and it was strong. I've only been here for bottomless brunch. I think this is an amazing option if you're not looking for something too fancy. Brunch items are basic but enjoyable. Definitely worth it if you're looking for a casual affordable bottomless option. Bar Charley's is a quaint but busy casual bar. It's located on the bottom level of the building and as soon as you walk in, you're hit with the delicious smell of Brussels sprouts. They have a HH menu that ends at 6PM and have a few bites on that menu, including the Brussels. We ordered the potatoes, pork shoulder, and Brussels which were all pretty good! I booked a reservation for my friends for a Monday night and it was perfect. They offer an all-day happy hour on Mondays with discounts on drinks as well as food. The best deal of the night was the Steak Frites, which included an delicious sliced steak with french fries and a large salad. The space is very warm, and not overly loud. The noise in a bar this size is always a concern. But we were able to have a great conversation and not be overwhelmed by the others in the room. Service was attentive and we never felt rushed. That is amazing for this city since I've felt shown to the door after just 1.5 hours at the table. I really enjoyed this spot and will definitely arrange other friend meet ups here. They were shocked when we asked for more champagne after paying for the bottomless, and refused to serve us after less than halfway through the bottomless. The decor is amazing inside the restaurant however it had an odd smell we opted to sit outside & the ambience on the patio is so cute. I loved the plants and lights. The service was AMAZING, The food was quality. We got brunch burgers and fries. They were cooked perfectly. Their brunch was ending and 20 minutes & They still sat us. We were still able to get the brunch deal which is one entrée and champagne bottles, $35. We had such a great time. All of the staff was really nice. The food is well made, but I find the salt level on the steaks to be consistently too high. Most of the cocktails are really great, but I find some of them to be too sweet even when sweet ingredients aren't listed. It tastes to me like some drinks have simple syrup even when simple syrup is not listed in the drink description. The service is very, very good. Really nice and helpful staff. The ambiance and decor are generally nice. Except the bathroom is absolutely disgusting. Most recently I went very late on a Saturday, so I understand that they may not have had time to clean yet, but the entire restaurant smelled strongly of spilled alcohol (not in the typical way bars/restaurants smell) and the bathroom smelled strongly of urine, like when it has been left to dry for several days. The floor of the bathroom was extremely sticky, and I can tell the room hasn't been properly cleaned in a very long time, because there was thick dust caked along the baseboards and within the corners of the walls. I should note the bathroom is very dimly lit, yet I was still able to see (and smell!) the lack of cleanliness. I wish I had seen this before I'd eaten at this bar, several times prior, because I do not trust restaurants that have unclean bathrooms. Attended happy hour here on Saturday - points for having HH on the weekend! Tried the Giggle Water which is like a Blue Hawaiian citrusy drink - it was delish! The bartender also made me a special drink called a Namayo and I think that might be my new go to - yum! This was our second time visiting Bar Charley for a happy hour. We didn't have a reservation, so they asked that we sit outside in the patio. They do have some sort of heating system, but I was seated next to the wooden fenced wall, so I was very cold. The funny thing was that the restaurant was practically empty the entire time we were there. I ordered two Moscow mules, to be honest, I wasn't very impressed. The Catalan fries didn't impress me either. Prices were pretty good ($7.95 for drinks, $8 for fries) but I don't think I'll be going back. read more

Great bar, great atmosphere, and decent restaurant. Bar Charley has a really nice intimate atmosphere. In terms of setting for a date, this is a really nice spot. The drinks are outstanding. I loved the Holy Shishito - a cocktail with tequila and a Smokey shishito pepper. Strong and delicious! I had the burger. The burger itself was very well seasoned, came on a really nice bun, and the cheese was melted perfectly. However, the burger had not properly rested after being cooked - so a lot of the juices leaked out. Given that they primarily serve steaks, and they don't even rest burgers properly, I would definitely not order a steak here (which would be a much bigger deal if not rested). Also the thick cut bacon I added to it was undercooked and chewy. If they're going to serve such thick slabs of bacon like this on a burger, they should either be slowly cooked or fried. Overall, it was a good burger, but certainly not great. The Gruyère and bacon fritter appetizer was absolutely delicious. A must order! This bar is owned by the same people who own Little Cocos - a phenomenal Italian restaurant in Petworth. Pasta is definitely more their forte. Would I come back? Probably not. Lucky Buns and the Imperial, both only a few blocks away, are much better. But it was worth the try! read more

I'll start with the positive, bottomless mimosas with a variety of flavors to chose from (classic, pomegranate, pineapple and peach). That's about all I have when it comes to the positives. Now let's talk about the food... Cheddar and chive biscuits with honey butter - Dry. Where is the cheese? Where's the flavor? Chicken and Beignets - The chef most certainly did not understand the assignment. The chicken was all bread hold the meat, but let's overcook it make it super crispy and hope they don't notice. They forgot to add some flavor when mixing the dough for the beignets which would potential explain why they were doughy. The maple syrup, let's be clear the supermarket brand probably delivered more of a pop than this concoction. Last but certainly not least the experience... Midway through the meal the heat was cut off so it got very cold, our reservation was made for the enclosed heated patio. There's no ambience, it's past the 1st but we're still staring at Christmas Decor that left a lot to desire. The table was rocking to the beat of the music not playing but perhaps to the beat of the things floating in the complimentary water. We attempted to order a bottle of wine because we thought this would mitigate the bad service (wouldn't need to order another round after we finished our first glass); then our waitress forgot to put the order in. Super friendly staff and a great atmosphere inside with a classic pub feel and a modern twist. The cocktails are great but a bit on the pricier side (they do have a happy hour deal but we just missed it). Thankfully, they have plenty of great local beers that are about half the price. The food was really good too. I almost always order crispy Brussels sprouts when I see them, and these were a step above the rest--not drenched in some sort of sweet sauce like some others I've had. My wife's steak frites was cooked perfectly medium rare and had a good wood fire flavor. The Charley Burger I ordered was a little greasy, but, I did order a burger with wagyu and cheddar, so I probably should have expected some grease.
