I loved the decor, very french meets Vintage Hollywood Glamour. I'd like a large room with a vanity area that looks just like Bar Chloe, yes, with the bar included! How fabulous would it be to have a vanity with a bar and bartender to tend your bar needs while you primp? Exquiste! Oh yes, and I'd like the dj's in my vanity room as well. Went here on a Saturday night but only as a second choice because the original bar we intended to visit was too busy. At around 10:30pm there was no line outside and we got in no problem. Once inside, I realized the place was way too small and definitely not what I had expected. To its credit, however, it felt very intimate. The dim light and small tables would have been excellent for a date or to hang out with your significant other. For us, however, the story was different. We came in as a group of about 12 and so it was very difficult to all hang out without getting split up or being in someone else's way. We did end up getting 2 tables but only because we were there fairly early. If you want a table, come early. As the night went on, though, it got more crowded. I was a little dissatisfied with service at the bar. First of all, drinks were $12 so beware because they were not on the cheap side. After I ordered my drink, it took forever to get it. I appreciate that the bartender was trying to be attentive but he was taking way too long to throw in a couple of shots and mix them up. And it wouldn't have hurt him if he had smiled a little. He seemed to morose and like he didn't want to be there serving me. In either case, the drinks were strong and delicious. And then there was the crowd. If you are a college student looking for a good time, do not come here on a Saturday night unless you like an older crowd. Older as in working40hrsaweekalreadyhavemylifeinorder kind of old. The music, however, was a good mix of old and new of popular and indie. In the end, it was a fun time but only because I had a strong drink in hand and was hanging out with good friends. It was our first time at Bar Chloe. I didn't even know it existed before tonight, but it's a great little bar just off the Third Street Promenade. The bartenders are very friendly and put a lot of effort into the handcrafted drinks with freshly peeled orange zest and cinnamon. The bartender even crafted a non-alcoholic drink for me with cucumber and basil. The decor is very nice with damask wallpaper and dim lighting, but they could definitely use some extra seating. My husband ordered the burger, which came out on a wooden cutting board with pickles (but no fries). He seemed to enjoy the burger. It wasn't massive, but seemed to do the trick since it was on the later side for dinner anyway. I ordered the artichoke and burrata bruschetta, which was measly to say the least. It was two slices of a French baguette toasted with some burrata cheese and a huge quarter of an artichoke heart on top. I would not order it again, especially since it wasn't all that tasty. All in all, we will definitely be back to Bar Chloe. The ambience, staff, and drinks were fantastic and it's a great little gem of a bar. We'll probably have dinner before we go though, so as not to rely on their small portions of food. read more

Last night's spot with two of my favorite ladies! What a great find! A place with bartenders who know how to make a real drink. (He was even juicing something with the juicing machine right behind the bar!) We had a few Happy Hour special cocktails with muddled cucumber, thyme simple syrup (?), and some other things. It was perfect! Tasty and not too sweet. I especially appreciated the lounge-y feel and how the seats are arranged. You can go with a group and have a "your own area" feel, but not feel separate from the rest of the patrons. There's enough space around the bar too to mingle standing. (We had stopped by Misfits first, but it was such an awkward layout with no available seating or standing room at the bar.) Really, really great service and the music (though it got a little cheesy Frenchy at times) was nice and quiet enough to actually have a conversation. I too came here for a private beauty event and had a great time. They had a different very eclectic mix of beers and wines in addition to the specialty cocktails. I think all reviewers can agree that it's cute, classy and intimate. LOL. This is not a place I'm gonna take a guy to but maybe a few girlfriends for yummy appetizers and fun drinks. Bar Chloe has such a wonderful atmosphere and the decor is great, but it's not a very large bar and not great for large parties unless you arrive early. It has happy hour until 8pm - so it's great for wine and other mixed drinks. Had a couple of red wines for about $7 a glass (Happy Hour price) with my friend and it was great. The happy hour food menu isn't as extensive as other Happy Hour places but it's good enough if you want something small to munch on. Should you be in the area looking for cute bar on the weekdays for well priced drinks this is the place to be. 5 stars for outstanding drinks and really chill bartenders. I'd heard of bar Chloe before and decided to stop by with my bf the other night. The bar opened at 7pm so it was nearly empty when we got there but quickly filled up. The bar tender helped us out right away, got us some drink menus, and chatted it up. I ordered a Side Car, and my boyfriend got an Alagash White. For the small list of beers , they had some pretty good picks. We only had time for a quick drink before dinner, but I'll definitely be coming back for more! read more

Nice, chill bar, presumably delicious cocktails. Only two beers on tap, but mellow vibe. So mellow, that you'd think the bartender would pop over and take your order. But nope. Not after 5 minutes, nor ten minutes, nor 20 minutes. So we left. And honestly, it kinda did match a somewhat hipster 'better-than' ambience in the place, which is unfortunate, because that's really not usually the case in my experience with the hipsterz. What better place to start with a review of a bar with the same name as myself. Every time I come here I feel like wearing a cute little designer dress because of its French nouveau design. The place is extremely small so you probably don't want to have too many people meet you here, especially if their guys. The cocktails are especially delicious and a good buy since I didn't have buy them myself :) It is extremely easy for me to really get drunk since it is a short cab ride away from my place. The people here are the Santa Monica too lazy to drive to Hollywood crowd. Its nice and all but they need to have a little edge to them. read more

Gut feeling when I walked in was that I liked it. Went on a Wednesday night, 9pm. Quiet, lots of seating - cushy couches, dark. Great place to meet friends for conversation and catch up over drinks and appetizers. There is no sign out front. Another reviewer wrote that it was small (but that's relative when you're from NY- this would be a big lounge) Good date place or catching up with friends place. This is a nice classy place. It is really small and the bartender is really nice. I had a ameretto sour since they didn't have midori sour. I was a bit skeptical to drink it since there was egg white in it but the drink was great!!! I loved it and the bartender was very helpful in helping me find the right drink similar to my midori sour. There is no cover and no one to check IDs. again, this place is small so on a nite that's happenin, it will b difficult to move around. the couches are comfortable with tables lit by candles. the ambience is romantic. Best to come in here dressed more on the nicer side but no need to. They do not turn away people wearing tennies. bathrooms is just 1 stall. one weird thing is the door is kind of a blurred see thru glass. you won't see right thru to the other person on the toilet but u can see colors. so like the color of ur clothes right thru. Made reservations here for a friends b-day just this past weekend. I must admit, that it took a few e-mails to get my reservation held, however, after some frustration, the service that I received (both via email in in person) TOTALLY made up for that bit of frustration (from not being replied to via e-mail). I think Bar Chloe is prime example of what service SHOULD be. They know how to take care of their customers and that really does make all the difference. The place is SUPER cute, & intimate. A small tiny lounge area makes for a space that you enjoy being in. Awesome set up, cute booths, yummy drinks and very friendly staff! The crowd was cool too, groups of girls & guys, all lookin' to have a few drinks with one another and have a great time. We tried a couple things off the menu: the tuna tartare & the meat plate - both were tasty and presented very nicely. The night we came to Bar Chloe seemed to be a slow night, but I could never hold that against Bar Chloe itself. Of the many places in Santa Monica that I have been, I really look forward to coming back here. Well... I give it 5 stars because its extremely nice inside and the drinks were good. Great place for a date. Cons: i went during happy hour and ordered a $6 mixed drink (which is their happy hour price for that). When the bill came, the bartender charged $10 each and i said that it was wrong, because it was. He said my bottom shelf mixed drink wasnt included in the $6 happy hour special... Um in mexico the drink would have been $2, I actually thought he was joking. Nope he wasn't. He took one of the $10 drinks off my tab after he told me i was wrong (redemption). I don't even want to know what their $6 mixed drinks are for happy hour because I ordered the lowest possible drink known to man. Hope this helps! read more

The ambience of the bar itself it a plus. But here form loses over function. As the night goes on! The bar get's packed and with a dj, and standing room only crowd it' gets a bit tuff to be comfortable. Grab a couch early cause the kiddies will hog'em up. 6 cocktails, tuna tartar, lemon seasoned avocado, and calamari will set you back about $100. I enjoyed the bar but I would recommended it as a warm up to the next location or the final destination. Food is so so, but drinks are awesome!! I wish they had some jazz in there. This place is a great spot to get drinks/cocktails the way they were meant to be made.... On Friday and Saturday nights before it gets crazy busy around 11pm, be sure to tell Greg (bartender) what base spirit or flavors you like and ask him to make you a drink, he will always create you something delicious. I personally LOVE his Clover Club. Anthony (bar manager) is also fantastic and the vibe these guys set is really great. I love the dark atmosphere with just candles and low lights. Chloe is a perfect date place, but also great to go with friends...some other reviews have been negative about the bartenders and on prices but as long as you're the kind of crowd who doesn't mind spending a little extra for great quality you'll love it here. If however you want shots of Bacardi and don't know what a real drink is..then this is NOT your place. Dark and loud later, but more loud because the music will be louder and the place is pretty small. Love the place for its cool, small place vibe. When I'm looking for a chill relaxing night out, usually I arrive early and bail by midnight as it gets busier. . Clientele will be classy upscale and sophisticated with an occasional hipster. Hollywood comes to Santa Monica. This place is chic for the Santa Monica Promenade but hopefully, this will up the hip quotient of the neighborhood. The seemingly all female service is nice and attractive but also gets the job done. This place is small but big on character so make sure you get their early, make reservations, or know someone important. As far as the food, it is just like the size of the place it is small but good but by no means will it make you full. Too early to tell about the crowd; it was alright when we went there but then again we brought our own crowd. A warning that my review is slanted because I am a big fan of "Magnolia" and "The Bar" By the way, like most places in Hollywood there isn't a sign so you may miss it. I love this place. This place was recommended by friends we trust and so we had to try it. The Sidecar, the Lavender Gimlet, the French 75, the Bellini, the Imperial Berry.. every single drink I've tried was AMAZING. The bartenders were very attentive, answered all our questions, etc. Yes the drinks are a little on the pricey side, but its worth it for how great they taste. Never had a problem at the door, everyone has been nice.. of course I've only gone in 2s. Even when the place was incredibly crowded the 2nd night we went in the bartenders were attentive. All I have to say to the bartenders, is GFY. If you ever make the mistake of going there you'll see why. They make a point to say you're not welcome there and to leave. I'd recommend the Misfit. I love Bar Chloe for many reasons, the main one being that their happy hour goes until 8 PM, much later than many other places.Wine was around $7 per glass, and they had $5 calamari and other cheap apps. In terms of food, my date and I went with a cheese and meat plate. They only have three, set selections of each (not a multitude of different cheeses and meats to choose from) however, everything we were served was outstanding. They have something for everyone including a brie-like cheese, a sharp cheese, hot cappicola, ect. The interior of the bar is really dark and has more of a romatic, date-night vibe.-- A stark contrast from the traffic and feeling of the sunny Promenade. There also isn't a ton of open seating in the bar, so come here early! I would definitely come back to try out some of their happy hour cocktails. read more

The setting here is appealing so it was a big disappointment that nothing else was. Ordered a whiskey sour with a soda splash, my drink of choice, and it smelled terrible. It was clearly from the glass - a poor wash or something - but the server said it was from the egg whites. I disagree but to be easy I asked if I could have it without the egg whites (hoping it would be in a new glass which would solve the problem). She said "so just the whisky and soda?" I assumed, since I had ordered a whiskey sour that the lemon juice was assumed. What I got back was a whiskey soda. No on drinks. Ordered apps. Bleu cheese stuffed dates and calamari. The calamari was edible but soggy with grease to the point that the breading was falling off. The stuffed dates were served cold - which could be their spin but itis different than any other place I have ever had them and the entire texture was different. Warm it! Melt the cheese and soften the dates! Oh, and we are eating over a coffee table so the least you could do would be some plates and silverware. No on food. read more

Not really my scene in terms of the crowd, which I will refrain from describing, but I loved the music Friday night. It got extremely crowded which in most cases would be fine but I literally could not enjoy my drink with my girlfriends without rude arms reaching over me constantly to leave their empty drinks on the bar top. The bartenders weren't too friendly at all, was not digging their energy. There was an elitist vibe I was getting from the bar top crowd, but a fun vibe from the people standing and sitting on the lounge seating. Came into Bar Chloe on a Tuesday afternoon for the very first time. Upon walking in I heard Bridgette Bardot and Serge Gainsborough music playing. Just because of that I was already in love with this place. Kim was our bartender this day, and he was a pleasure to sit a the bar with. He really made the ambiance ever that much better. I had the happy hour grilled cheese, it was $5. I was nothing mind blowing, but it took care of my craving. Kim made me a classic sazerac and it was fantastic! I love Chloe! This place is cute, intimate and has the best drinks! I will never forget the day I came here for happy hour and discovered the Pimm's Cup. Mmm so tasty and refreshing, it's like a citrusy iced tea. I had 2 of these before happy hour ended, leaving me wishing that I had ordered 5 more and kept them lined up on the bar. They also make an interesting lavender gimlet which was indeed, oddly flowery, but but very good. Try to stop by for the happy hour food specials too, only $5. I would pass on the chicken satay, but the calamari and risotto balls were nicely crisp and salty. Next time I'll have to try the mac & cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches. An even smaller lounge in the Santa Monica area. Nothing special or that stands out after coming here. Sure its lounge you may want to experience before you head on out to a better lounge later on the evening, but you won't miss anything after coming here. It's a small but spacious bar due to less tables and less seating so more floor space for you to stand on. Though being in a lounge would assume that there would be more of place to sit on. Drinks are on the high end (after happy hour prices) that ranged between $11-14. I asked the bartender is there anything on the menu that is kinda sweet and refreshing...so he told me don't worry about and I'll make you one. After a few minutes, he came back with with his own mix. I had to admit, it was pretty good, sweet, yet a bit tangy. So I then asked him, what's in it? His response..."I don't know...I don't remember" Wow...you expect me to believe that you just forgot what you made me only a minute earlier??? I used to come here often, but since I'm not on the westside as much as I'd like, it's unfortunately been a while. The bartenders are very friendly and one got me hooked on a Strawberry Vodka Lemon shot which I am thankful for, it sounds weird, but its amazing. The decor is gorgeous, very 1930's inspired, mellow, but always busy on the weekends. They also make a mean grilled cheese.
