We came for dinner somewhat late on a weekend and were seated without any wait. By that time, outdoor seating was no longer an option. They started off giving us a few pieces of bread in parchment paper. Definitely a pro move to save these for dipping, as recommended by CM Sophie. The sauces were by far the highlight for me. Scooping up the red sauce (along with the polenta, which I'm a sucker for) in the meatball appetizer dish and in the clam appetizer dish was the best part (especially with the additional oil toasted bread that came with the clams). I wasn't too hungry, so I just had a soup and salad as my main. Both were fresh. I liked that the soup had melted Parmesan inside. The salad was light and refreshing- with a good amount of acid on the fresh greens. It was a little arugula heavy, but overall very tasty- finished every last bit. Also had a tequila cocktail which was quite strong. Service was friendly and attentive. Chicken Milanese is the best food item this place has on their menu. Every time I go to Bar Cino, I'm either getting the chicken Milanese or I'm getting the Carbonara. When I order a carbonara from a restaurant that isn't Bar cino, the serving is just too small. So now whenever I want a big plate of authentic Carbonara I'll just come here. I would definitely recommend the Watertown location if you're looking for something nice and casual. However, if you're looking to go out with the girls and have a bit more fun, I would go to the Brookline location. Service is 8/10. They are wonderful people but not the most attentive. read more

We got 2 appetizers & 2 plates & 1 dessert. Half the food was good the other was shockingly bad. 1 appetizer - bolognese arancini (a classic), was overfried batter & not much else--it was all we could taste, the frier itself. 1 plate - the orecchiette came drowned in water on the plate which wasn't the end of the world, but the taste could not save the dish. Came here for the Restaurant Week special. For the appetizers, I tried the meatballs and asparagus--both were excellent, but if you had to pick one, I'd go with the meatballs (unless you're trying to be healthy). Was able to sample most of the entrees on the list, so here are my thoughts: - Fennel sausage pizza: decent thin pizza, but not my favorite. Comes with scissors to cut. A big portion of food though--we were able to comfortably make eight slices out of it. - Chickpea pancake: easily the worst of the entrees--it's literally just a (somewhat dry) pancake topped with chickpeas and other veggies. It's like a consolation prize for being vegetarian. - Spaghetti scoglio: came highly recommended, although the actual spaghetti itself seemed indistinguishable from regular Barilla pasta. It's a seafood pasta that was fine, but the shrimp was small (and I always judge a restaurant based on their shrimp). Fine if you REALLY love seafood, otherwise I'm not particularly enamored with it. - Braised pork shoulder: the star of the night. Super tender, great flavor, the polenta was nice and creamy. We got two of these to share because the server said this was the most popular item. Would definitely get this again. - Grilled salmon: it was fine. It was salmon. I tend not to get salmon at places because I can make it at home and it tastes the same, but it's good if you're trying to get in your omega-3s. It came with this polenta puree thing that was also good. - Chicken Milanese: also really good. The chicken is slightly breaded I think, and comes with a salad and a lemon you can squeeze over everything. I tried the salted caramel gelato and the EVOO lemon cake for dessert. They were an amazing pairing, but the gelato was superior. The lemon cake tasted a bit like it'd been sitting around in a refrigerator and gotten a bit dense, but still good--just not as good as the gelato. I didn't have the chance to try the panna cotta, but the friends who got it liked it. However, one person reported their friend tried it and it was dry. Overall, a great tasting menu and some tasty food! read more

I love Bar Cino! I go a lot. The atmosphere is great and the service is fast. I usually get share plates with my friends and bottles of wine. Some of their best is their Bruschetta with goat cheese and prosciutto, their calamari which also has fried lemons in it, and their Tristan Kale salad with sun-dried tomato dressing. The prices are reasonable too. Definitely a great place to meet friends, grab a drink, have a nice meal. read more

Fantastic experience here. Fantastic food - got the fig jam and prosciutto bruschetta, chicken pesto pizza, and pistachio gnocchi special. Outstanding! Sat at the bar on a busy Saturday night. Our bartender was awesome. Drinks super! We had the fritto-Misto app. Amazing! Hubby had the salmon: cooked perfect. I was very excited to try Bar Cino after months of driving past it! I have been twice now and both meals were excellent and an interesting take on Italian food. The first time I had the short rib which was really tasty and I appreciate the olive oil mashed potato's as I am lactose intolerant and usually find a limit to my options, especially with Italian. Second time I had the NY strip and it was cooked perfectly and came with awesome roasted potatoes. Drink of note is the black pepper lemonade which is a trip! Great Service and atmosphere.. but food was mediocre at best for the expensive bill . The antipasto was just good , the best part was the prosciutto and fig jam . The cheese was just Parmesan nothing special, and the salami was not good at all, very greasy and fatty ($22). For dinner, both of us got the carbonara($40) because we were in the mood for a dinner that felt like Italy. We both took a bite at the same time and both said wow way too salty. Yes I know there's salt from the meat and cheese in it, I have cooked it before but definitely way too much added in the kitchen. Also, the couple sitting next to us got the carbonara and I overheard them say it to each other that it was way too salty and we agreed together. Been here a couple of times and I would say it is ok. Had a pizza one time (flat bread style and they give you scissors to cut it). Food is plated well and tastes fine. Recently had had kale/bean. soup and SO had beet salad. Ambiance is just one big room with bar in middle and some nice tables along the window. However, if you are going to charge $13 for a straight liquor on the rocks please pour more than a thimble. We've been to the Bar Cino in Newport many times, it is consistently fantastic. This was our first time in the watertown location, the service was fine. We ordered the bolognese arancini and it came frozen in the middle. My fiancée ordered the Cacio e Pepe, it essentially was just buttered noodles with no flavor. I ordered the Gnocchi mushroom ragu, the pasta tasted like it just came from the supermarket and the mushrooms and peas were also a bit frozen. For the prices of these dishes, not even being able to heat the food up past frozen is unacceptable. This was a disappointing visit from a restaurant we usually rave about. I hope it was just because it was Valentine's Day and it was busy, if this location stays like this there is absolutely no way we're going back. Last night, Tuesday, June 18,2024, three of us made reservations at Bar'Cino for dinner. The menu was nice and we ordered a variety of fair. The food came in a speedy manner and it was desent. I would rate the service as less than satisfactory. However, in the spirit of full disclosure, I have just read Unreasonable Hospitality and my expectations have grown just like the prices of dining. Unfortunately, service is the same or worse than before the resent meteoric rise in prices. As I was eating the Tiramisu and filling out the check, a rather large rodent ran across the floor near us. My wife who has a phobia with rats and mice looked at me in horror. She held it together and did not scream for the first time in our 35 years together. When the waiter returned to our table, I let him know what had happened. His response was the reason for the low review. He acted like this was not a new thing for this restaurant and told me he would tell the manager. We sat there another 10 or 15 minutes expecting to hear something about what had happened. Needless to say, we did not hear from the manager or our waiter again. I understand that these things do happen, but this is not how to handle it if staying in business and making money is the goal. Saw a couple of reviews recommending the Meatballs & they lived up to their billing. delicious mixture of meat and cheese. For entrees I had the sausage pizza and my birthday girl had the braised beef. The pizza was a generous single portion and was a delicious mix of sausage, scallions & onions. The braised beef had a spectacular flavor and so tender that a knife wasn't required. Polenta was delicious as well. For dessert, a chocolate tort that was rich & savory. I've been here a number of times and always have had a great experience- food, service and atmosphere. Recently had a birthday gathering with 20 people and Vadim and the servers went out of their way to make it all work despite a change in seating. Atmosphere is great. It's nice, bright and inviting. Staff superb. Rating A+. Food is 'ok'. We learned from our meal it's not fine cuisine, it's comfort food. Potato chips rating: A. Crispy cauliflower rating: A. Beet dish rating: B. Margherita pizza rating: D. It had so many scallions on it. To me, that style of pizza should not have onions on it or call it something else. Yes, it does say right on the menu it has scallions, we just figured I'd give it a shot and it was far from our liking. We took a bite and didn't finish it. Tagliatelle pasta rating: C. It tasted 'ok' but clearly the pasta is not freshly made there, which is what I was expecting. It was clearly tried pasta that was boiled. Carnaroli risotto a C. It tasted 'ok' but the amount of butter in it was quite overwhelming. Would we go back there? Sure. It's convenient to us, service and atmosphere was great, etc. We just know now what to expect. We are regular patrons of this location of Bar 'Cino. However, last night. We were concluding our meal when three rats crawled up from a crevice between the built in seating and wall and crawled near our head and upper back areas. While this is deeply unsanitary and we have already pursued reporting this to the health department, the reactions of the managerial staff was the most alarming. First, my credit card was still run. I had to advocate for a refund. Second, the staff mentioned that this wasn't the first time. Third, the managerial staff was, in no way, apologetic and, instead, somewhat rude and dismissive toward us--diminishing the criticality of a such a hygienic failure. We won't be revisiting this establishment which is deeply unfortunate because it was once our favorite in the area. read more

Service service service, and then some more! Food, ambiance, decor, drinks, outdoor seating, beautiful wooden booths...they have it all! First of all the waitress we got was a sweetheart, even when she was wearing a mask her smile radiated throughout. She hands down gets top scores from me and my friends. Her suggestions were spot on, she was knowledgeable about all dishes especially the gluten free options , made sure to update us on the status of our drinks and food, and gave us the space to eat and talk while still checking on us. She also got me my hot pepper flakes immediately when I'm used to my pepper arriving after I am done with my food in other places! Top marks for the chef who invented the broccolini with pesto dish...delicious!!! So generous with the pesto, and the olive oil they have on the table is gorgeous. Oh, also let me tell tou about my mock-tail spicy drink, it was actually as spicy as advertised! The bartender definitely delivered on the spice, it was super delicious (notice I love my spice lol!). The Oregon red wine choice they had on the menu was multilayered and flavorful with yummy plum and cherry after notes. My friends enjoyed the salmon and couscous, it was a well done dish indeed! While we were full had didn't order desserts, the table beside us ordered desserts and we were eating them with our eyes, some sort of multilayered cake with pistachio. Top top marks Bar'cino folks!
