The hubs and I love this little spot! We (me- husband by default) are brunch people, and when we saw there was a place in Edmonds with a couple good looking benedicts on the menu we had to check it out. It more than exceeded expectations and still does every time we go. It's a small restaurant, easy to miss in a wannabe strip mall, but when you walk inside, the ambiance is completely different from the outside. It's Asian fusion, and the decor and menu reflect that, but it's really really good, unlike a lot of fusion places where "fusion" actually means "confused about what to serve". The bloody Mary's are great, and I'm addicted to their shrimp and avocado tempura omelet. I don't even like omelets, but this one is amazing, so I make an exception. The hubs likes the bacon benne and the crab benne, and the crispy potatoes are deep fried crack. They put a lot of work into everything they make, from the drinks to the food, and it shows. Staff is always super friendly, and I love that it's not always super packed with a line out the door. It's a quiet, local little secret that I'll keep coming back to. Worth checking out! read more

Food is very good. The fact that it's in a strip mall is OK but I think that they need to do more. There's something missing here and I can't quite put my finger on it. The price is too much for the service and location. Also, the fact that you can see back to the kitchen where the staff go to convene is a bit unprofessional. The atmosphere feels like a Chipotle with outrageous prices. I've had better drinks at other restaurants down in Edmonds - but they aren't THAT bad either. I guess I just expected more. Have always wanted to check this place out and decided to stop in last week. It was pretty slow when we went, which is a shame, because the place is so good. Our server was wonderful and the food was excellent. We shared the miso salad to start. It was really small, but so flavorful that it was the perfect start to our dinner. We were also brought some toasted garlic edamame as a little appetizer...yum. Husband ordered the pork belly bowl and cleaned his plate, so it must have been great. I ordered the red curry, which was more of a soup than expected. The broth was amazing, perfectly tangy,and just what I wanted. Can't wait to go back as I wasn't able to try the cocktails although they looked really good! I went with my boyfriend and here is what we ordered: Fried avocado Coconut prawns Salmon NY steak The fried avocados are delicious but wish we would have had more people with us because they are a big portion! The coconut prawns are a must - really delicious and the mint sauce was a new pairing for me. The salmon was cooked perfectly and I liked that it had a kick to it. So many places overcook fish so it was nice to have it not dried out. The steak was served with asparagus and some sort of squash that was amazing. read more

My wife and I Ioved everything about our dining experience. We have often felt we need to go to downtown Seattle to get this level of food, drinks, service and ambience. Bar Dojo is much closer to home for us, so we are happy. Food was delicious. Cocktails were much more sophisticated than we usually find around here. They carry a wide variety of liquors and ingredients and can therefore make very interesting cocktails. Holy cow. This place is amazing. Took a bit long to get sat and the location of the hostess stand is terrible. It is right next to a table, so you feel like you are sitting in the diners lap while waiting to get sat. With this being said, the food and drinks were phenomenal. I ordered the Geisha mixed drink which was so delicious. Light and refreshing and a bit stronger than it tasted. My friend ordered the Asian Pear Bourbon drink and it was amazing. I absolutely despise bourbon, whiskey, and scotch, but this drink was delicious. The bourbon flavor was muted down a bit and was just balanced perfectly. My friend and I shared two dishes, the Ahi Tacos and the braised beef. The ahi tacos were just delicious. A bit spicy, but not overwhelming. But boy of boy....the braised beef. Worth every penny. It was around $25, but worth it. The waitress dropped it off to the table with no knife to split it. I was a bit annoyed that she would overlook something like that until I tried to use my fork.....my fork cut through the meat like a hot knife through butter. Amazing. And the flavor was a thing of magic. Lastly, we tried the black sesame gelato and it was phenomenal. Don't let the term black sesame deter you, because it was so rich, it was almost chocolaty. This place did not disappoint. 3 drinks, an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert ran us about $85. Worth every penny. read more

We've been going to Bar Dojo now for a few years now and it remains one of our favorite places in Edmonds. Up until recently, we would have given the restaurant a 5 star review, hands down. We continue to love the atmosphere (especially given the strip mall location) and the service is always lovely. We used to be able to walk in and get a table or a spot at the bar without a reservation or much of a wait but that is nearly impossible now, even going early or late. But what's really disappointing to us is that the prices have slowly increased while the quantity/quality of food has decreased. For example, we LOVE the ahi poke tacos appetizer but the tacos mostly consist of cabbage with a minimal amount of ahi at an $18 price point . . . sigh . . . also the yummy sweet & sour chicken wings have changed to a garlic recipe which just isn't as good. This is a great addition to Edmonds eats. They are different and executing well. The Pork Dumplings were succulent and delectable. The chili sauce complimented them well. The coconut prawns were as tasty we've ever had. Cooked perfectly and served hot. The avocado rice was satisfying but going for the jasmine rice next time. Here is why I only gave them a 3 star rating; the salt and pepper baby octopus. It came deep fried. I asked the waitress if she accidentally brought us calamari because that's what it was. She assured me it was octopus. I've eaten octopus many times and it wasn't octopus. It was calamari. If it wasn't, they need to change up their recipe because there is no distinguishable difference. The server was super polite even when she appeared to be super busy. The place is small but exudes charm. The menu is super interesting and refreshing. We're coming back for more! We're not ordering the octopus though. ;) read more

We came for the first time on a Wednesday night to hear Enrique sing. He's amazing! The service was good. It's a good place to bring a date. I had the risotto with smoked duck. The duck was great but I didn't like the citrusy risotto. My wife had the shrimp salad with green papaya which was too spicy for her and the shrimp was mushy. We'll probably be back to hear Enrique and try something else. The place seems worth a second chance. read more

Came in w/o reservations looking for a table for 2. They said it would be 30-45 minutes. I see two open tables but assume they are for reservations. We went next door to get a drink. Five minutes later, right after we get our drinks, we get a call saying our table is ready. We finish our drinks and pay quickly and go back 10 minutes later, then get seated at one of the tables which was open when we came in. ??? We got some drinks which were good. The fried tofu appetizer was cooked well, but wasn't flavored much at all -- just a bowl of fried tofu and very tart picked vegetables. For dinner we got two dishes -- in one the rice was VERY overcooked, and in the other the rice was undercooked. For a place that does Asian(-ish) food, having rice this bad is really disappointing. Would've told the server if she came back, but she was nowhere to be found for at least 20 minutes after we finished our meal. There was practically no one in the place at this point and our server walked past us at least three times without looking at us. Also, there was a guy playing guitar and singing there. I gave him a dollar and he said loudly "I love rich kids!" This was more confusing than anything. Around 15 minutes into sitting around waiting for our check he takes a break and then comes over and talks to us...and talks to us...and talks. I'm often up for talking to a stranger, but he didn't seem to notice that we weren't really looking for his life story at this point in our night. All in all, a mediocre to not great experience from the time we came in the door to the time we left. read more

My favorite curry noodle soup seems to never fail me. There's some kind of secret ingredient in that broth that I can't detect. Only complaint I have is this: the first time I ordered this dish, it accompanied a beautifully made tempura squash on the side. 2nd time, I got few scraps of "old" tempura squash. Now you're serving the squash directly on the charger. Presentation is part of the oooh's and ahhh's of going out to eat. Maybe if you listen to your reviewers, you would correct this faux pas and go back to serving this dish the original way. read more

Our server, Shubert (as printed on my receipt because my memory sucked as dinner was all a blur after some drinks) was very accomodating and entertaining when he took care of us. We were a party of five and were all first-timers at Bar Dojo. He introduced us to the restaurant's history and was very knowledgeable of the chefs' intentions with the food; he was also very patient as we wanted to try as many drinks and plates as we could. Shubert was also the bartender of the restaurant so we were especially well cared for when it came to our drinks! Every dish was delicious. Some of our favorites were the Black Cod Kasuzuke, the Pork Belly Bowl, the cocktails, and the Almond Cake. I also liked the Avocado Rice that Shubert had offered to us on the house. So creamy! The restaurant did very well to adapt to the changing times with COVID-19 regulations. The ambiance and the service remained pleasant regardless. It is difficult to even wear a mask all day long, let alone to work a restaurant with them on! We're very thankful to be able to have a dining experience, especially at Bar Dojo. If you're looking for something more special, this place will definitely fit the bill. The flavors are amazing. It looks so unassuming from the outside but you would be surprised.
