The place is a small fish market style with outdoor seating. Over all this isn't terrible, but it was cold. We ordered a lobster roll, sword Fish Special and lobster bisque. We sat at a table that was barely touched by the sun under an umbrella. I was looking to see how the umbrella worked before I was asking if I could take it down. Before I even asked one of the workers leaned out the window and kind of told me off asking me what I was doing. This already put out a weird vibe. The person who took our order didn't hear me order the lobster roll, which happens. We noticed this after checking the receipt, so we went back in to order that. Time goes by, waiting for the food. The previous guy calls my name. I go to the window as he pulls the food back in. He then my sister's name, then another name, as he hands those food orders out. I ask about mine and he says he didn't call my name. I literally sit there as 6 or 7 other people get there food and start eating. This is literally like 35 minutes. He opens the window and asks if I'm sure I didn't get my food... He said they made it, so he doesn't know what happened. I eventually get my food like 15 minutes later. He did apologize, so that was good. Maybe I was already in a bad mood, but I didn't enjoy the food at all. The vegetables were completely unseasoned, the fish was bland, and the potatoes were just basic. I tried to keep eating it because I was hungry, but it wasn't really worth it. Stopped by for a quick lunch. It was hot outside but the lunch was delicious. The lobster roll with butter was good, probably the best I have had outside of Maine. Bar harbor has a great lunch window with lobster rolls and empanadas and specials and they always do a good job there, but that's not where the magic happens. The real magic is in their market. It all started with a time when I was looking for live lobsters to cook, and they do live lobster by the pound which is well priced. I love taking them home and cooking them. They also have an awesome selection of fresh fish including tuna and salmon and such. I've done a special order with them before and they are easy to work with and will help you get things that they don't always carry that their suppliers can offer. They also have a pretty great caviar selection, and it was great to get to try that. But the real magic for us is in the oysters. 90 cent blue points are a steal, and these guys also did a special order of wellfleets for us at a buck an oyster for New Year's Day. On a tip from a friend who is a chef, we went here for lunch on a Saturday. It's a seafood wholesaler that also sells seafood to regular consumers and also serves lunch (M-Sat). The eatery is in a warehouse area but there was plenty of parking. The ordering counter is pretty small and is inside where the menu and specials are listed. You can also order seafood to go and cook at home. There's a sign on the door that says only 4 people inside at a time but it wasn't crowded for ordering so we got right in. There's a regular menu as well as a daily specials menu. After ordering and picking drinks (cans and bottles only), we went outside to wait. It looked like all the outside picnic tables were full but I asked a couple if we could sit with them as the table was large enough for us to all sit and still feel separated. Luckily, it was one of the tables with an umbrella because it was pretty hot in the sun. We actually waited a pretty long time for our food as I realized that while all the tables were full, almost no one had food. I guess we picked a bad time after a crowd had come in. Every few minutes, one of the employees would open the serving window and then yell out 3 to 4 names to pick up their food. Finally after 45 minutes, our name was called. My husband got fried scallops, about 6 of them, with fries and slaw, and I got the Maine Lobster Roll but substituted Hush Puppies for my fries and slaw. We thought the portions were small but after eating everything, I'd say it was just right. My roll was buttery and perfectly toasted and there were big pieces of lobster meat. And the hush puppies were yummy. It's funny because after leaving, we were thinking we might not go back because of the wait and the portion sizes but we are already planning on going back because the food is so good. read more

We came to Bar Harbor Monday the day before Christmas Eve! Our daughter really wanted Oysters and this year and we had no clue where to even purchase raw oysters. When you come to this spot at least during the holidays you're going to be met with a line out the door to the market. They will service everyone all the way to the minute of close. We bought the canned jumbo lump crab and a dozen oysters. Both were the stars of our Christmas meal! This is a happening lunch spot that's known for inexpensive seafood that presents a good value. The lobster rolls are tasty, but the portion sizes are modest and reflect the price. The biggest downside here is the service. However long you think is a reasonable time to get a lobster roll, double it. Then maybe add a few minutes. We came on a weekend this time and it was such a beautiful day to eat outside on the picnic table. My favorite hidden gem. I found this spot a few years back and love both their seafood counter and lunch. All of the food is fresh and the fish and chips are lightly fried. The lobster rolls have a decent amount of lobster. I've definitely had a hit or miss but overall it usually is still a good deal. I recommend following their Facebook so you can see different specials they offer for the week. The employees here are really nice and answer all my questions. Whenever there's a new fish I definitely like to ask what way they recommend cooking it and then trying it at home. They haven't steered me wrong yet. Shout out to the employees here! There was a time several years ago when I stumbled onto Bar Harbor Seafood "Wholesale to the Public Retail Market." I couldn't have been more excited to find a local take out counter where I could get my fill of Lobster Rolls. A near perfect copy of Red's Eats here in Orlando. Bar Harbor offered it all. Either for a picnic lunch or take home these were pure perfection of lobster meat served on a big grilled top-cut hot dog bun. Along with the roll came fresh hot french fries and creamy coleslaw. It might be 1600 miles from Bar Harbor Maine but here in Orlando was a source of fresh ocean goodness. Today all this came to a screeching end when I unwrapped my lobster rolls picked up at Bar Harbor this afternoon. Now I warn you, stay away. They have completely ruined the lobster roll. No longer chunks of Lobster meat it's mashed goop on a little 5in roll. There was absolutely no resemblance to Maine Lobster except the pinkish white color of the mash. First time visiting this establishment. Won't be the last. Huge facility and distribution center with an impressive fleet of delivery trucks. The actual retail space is relatively small. They limit the number of customers allowed inside at any given moment. Nice variety of seafood and sauces and other "goodies" for sale in the retail space. Cooked, whole New england lobsters. They sell individuals for $6.95. They have a deal of buy 5 get 6th for free. So we bought 6. They are small, barely legal. But, in Florida, beggars can't be choosy. They aren't bad but, for someone who grew up in new england, they don't quite measure up. It's hard to complain at this price. But I'd rather pay more and get a great lobster. Stay away from their whole belly clams. They are small, nothing like what you'd get up north. We tried them here a couple of years ago and ate outside at the picnic benches and ended up walking back to the counter to get our money back. The food was good the clams with belly could have been bigger. I cannot compare the clouds with the belly onto the ones that I have gotten up north especially in the Rhode Island in Connecticut area, but they were good seasoned well. The lobster that we have were steamed today special. The lobster was a little chewy which means they overcooked it a little too long but otherwise these flavor and the seasoning were OK. The lobster was very sweet as far as succulent and juicy, but they overcooked it. Otherwise, in all regards I would recommend you at least come give it a shot. Maybe something else on the menu will be more to your liking and taste of what I've had. This is just good. It's not excellent. It's just good.
