Always great and consistent food. We'll definitely be back. Welcome to Woodville! Now we don't have to drive to Livingston.

Late review: We…read moretraveled to Lake Charles and had planned to sample some carnival/fair food at the Louisiana Pirate Festival. However, the food choices were very limited. We researched restaurants in the area, but most were closed or had limited hours on a Sunday. Umami was the only restaurant with good reviews that was open at the time. The food was ok. It was definitely better than Hana Japanese Sushi Bar & Grill in Natchitoches, but not as good as Geisha Sushi Bistro in New Orleans. We ordered: Tuna tartare Spicy tuna roll Spicy salmon roll Hamachi nigiri Tuna nigiri Steamed shumai There's 24 photos that should be posted with this review.

Starting with the atmosphere -- when we were seated, the table was noticeably sticky, which immediately set the wrong tone. The overall space felt dated, and several tables showed visible wear, including warped wood. It gave the impression that maintenance and upkeep may not be a priority. We decided to move forward and hope the food would make up for it. The quality itself wasn't terrible, but it wasn't memorable either -- fairly average and not something we'd go out of our way for. The biggest issue was the portion size and service flow. The sushi arrived in very small increments -- two pieces at a time -- with long pauses in between. It made the meal feel disjointed and unnecessarily drawn out. For the price point, the portions were extremely small, and I actually left hungry, which rarely happens. For three people, the bill ended up being over $125 (including a couple of beers), which felt steep considering the portion sizes and overall experience. I understand how challenging the restaurant business can be, and this isn't written to be harsh -- just honest. There's potential here, but improvements in cleanliness, presentation, portion sizing, and service pacing would make a significant difference. With several dining options in the area, I would likely explore other restaurants during our stay.

When family comes to town for the holidays, there's one spot that always makes our restaurant…read morerotation--MX Sushi . We're a family of sushi lovers, and owners Macy and Eric never miss a beat when it comes to delivering fresh, flavorful goodness. You'll find them in the food court at Parkdale Mall, and trust me... they're worth the stop. I ordered my usual favorite, the Obe Roll --a perfectly rolled beauty stuffed with spicy crab meat and shrimp, then drizzled with just the right kick of sriracha. One of my granddaughters went for the fried California roll, filled with avocado, cream cheese, and crab meat--crispy, creamy, and absolutely delicious. I also grabbed egg rolls for hubby, and everything came out hot, fresh, and spot-on as always . But listen... the true star of the night --the one we could NOT stop talking about all the way home--was their cheese-filled rangoons . This is Macy Ding's recipe, and baby... it's a flavor explosion! Crispy, golden wontons on the outside with warm, creamy deliciousness on the inside. No surprise at all that they didn't make it home to share . These bite-sized beauties are an absolute must-try--so good they're what I call "drop folk" good . So if you ever find yourself craving sushi, I highly recommend MX Sushi . Tell them Best Bites sent you--and whatever you do, don't leave without ordering the cheese rangoons and one of their refreshing strawberry or peach drinks . Trust me... you'll be planning your return visit before you even finish your meal. They are Best Bites approved.

So I got this delivered. I ordered the beef filet with salad, fried rice and vegetables. The beef…read morewas tougher than a fillet should be. It was cooked medium rare as requested. The vegetables and rice were very good and I enjoyed the salad which was green leaf and not just iceberg. I also ordered the melon tuna which was a piece of tuna on top of watermelon (nicely ripe) with a slice of jalapeño on top. It was something different and I really liked it. Again the filet was disappointing, I wouldn't order it again. But everything else was great!

The service is also fast, though not perfectly attentive. The food is mediocre. It's sushi in Beaumont, so you have to curb your expectations, as the fish in East Texas is never great. We went with cooked rolls and they were tasty - the Cajun crawfish and the eel rolls are good choices. I would recommend avoiding the steak. I really enjoy Japanese steak skewers, which are usually made with good cuts of high quality beef. I expected nothing less in East Texas, but the skewers here are absolutely foul. I had two bites, both tasted like old urine. Additionally they were overcooked. I couldn't stomach any more than two bites. I would have come back for just cooked sushi but in addition to the bad steak, the restroom smells strongly of raw sewage, which the restaurant tries to mask with spray. There are unfinished toilet holes where I assume this stench is coming from. Very off putting.

The sushi is always fresh and not fishy, soft shell crab is never pungent and always fresh tasting! Bento boxes are a great deal, the noodles are really good from the side dish noodles to the udon! The drinks have always been cold and tasty especially the last one I got which was the Scorpion Bolw! It was huge and very tasty, even comes out on fire! The service is usually pretty good but sometimes the waitresses disappear for a while but everyone there is always willing to help. The building is definitely a bit older and we'll kept inside, tables are clean and covered with fresh paper between guests, the sushi bar is nice with no weird bar smells and the bathrooms have been decent. We will continue to go to Tsubaki as it has become one of our favs here in Lufkin.

It's Friday , I'm off, and I was feeling adventurous!! Well, I popped in at 2:30 in the afternoon, and it was pretty quiet, with only myself and two others there, which would have given me cause to pause had this been a Houston Japanese bar, but this IS Lufkin yall, so I wasn't gonna jump to conclusions regarding the sparseness of patrons. I went straight to the bar and started trying to place my order. Unfortunate for me it was a very young, and brand new waitress helping me who had ZERO familiarity with anything on the nigiri menu , which is what I wanted, nor did she even know what nigiri meant as opposed to sashimi or maki rolls and I had to explain to her what a hot saki was when trying to order my drink.. ( bummer) But I was patient with her and she was trying , and was overall a sweet girl, so I just pushed through.. At any rate, the food finally was prepared by the sushi chef who was there behind the bar, who was not very friendly considering he was not busy at all and I was the only person sitting at the bar, but to his credit he wasn't rude either, and he did manage a smile my way. The sushi was very average , but it was edible and overall fresh, not fishy or blah, which I was happy at least for that , however there were no premium selections of fish available, ie; blue fin tuna, fatty tuna, king salmon, or uni options.. But I won't be too hard on them because I'm pretty sure they get more requests for there cooked options from the kitchen , which were endless by the way, and their selection of maki rolls, more than anything else, making there nigiri options an outlier. So I gave 3 out of five stars..
