Surprisingly large space with an elegant art deco meets speakeasy vibe to the decor. A lot of seating options, from the standard bar seating to tabletops and booths. Service was impeccable and our server, Rachel, was so sweet and well informed about the menu items. She was able to recommend some excellent drinks and food options for us. We had the chicken tenders with Thai sauce, truffle fries and pretzels - all excellent. The specialty martini menu is outstanding: standout drinks were the lemon drop martini and the purple reign. OK, I now know our first visit impression was a fluke. last couple of visits were marginal, but last night was horrific. We were sat in a corner booth. after 20 minutes of server no show (not even in the section to flag down) we moved to the bar. At the Bar the woman was as friendly as a tax collector. no smile, not greeting, when I mentioned we moved from the table because of no server , she said "well I just got here'. Well trained staff would say "i'm sorry, let me get you fixed right up !" she was quick to demand a credit card however. we ordered drinks and appetizer, and never saw her again. food was delivered form the kitchen, but by then the drinks were empty. no bartender. we tried to flag a guy down, but he "was doing inventory" so he asked the guy at the service bar to pour. , lots of employees scurrying around but getting nothing done but talking among themselves. we never got a chance to order dinner, so we flagged the service bar guy down and asked for the check. he looked annoyed at having to come to our side of the bar. Long story , made short. Horrible service tuned to ignore customers. Management should be ashamed. read more

After all the stress, effort, and years of hard work, this day was meant to be special. I chose to celebrate it with my family at Bar Louie in Gainesville, VA, thinking we'd enjoy a nice meal and some recognition for a major life milestone. Instead, it turned into one of the most disappointing, frustrating, and honestly infuriating dining experiences I've ever had. From the second I walked in--with my cap and gown on, clearly fresh out of my graduation ceremony--not a single employee acknowledged me. No "congratulations." No smile. Not even a polite nod. I wasn't expecting confetti or free dessert. Just basic human decency. Instead, I was met with cold, blank stares. The staff actually looked annoyed that we were there, like we were an inconvenience on their shift instead of paying customers here to celebrate something important. It didn't stop there. We sat down and waited. And waited. And waited. It took almost a full hour just for our appetizers to show up. One hour. For basic starters. And when they finally came, they were barely warm and clearly rushed. They also got multiple orders wrong. No explanation. No apology. Just dropped off food we didn't even ask for and moved on like nothing happened. The service overall was honestly embarrassing. It was so poor, so dismissive, that it made a baby at another table start crying. The energy in the place was tense and uncomfortable. A plate was dropped nearby, adding to the chaos. And worst of all, members of my own party--family who came to celebrate my achievement--ended up walking out because the wait was so long and the service was that unbearable. I had to sit there, on my graduation day, watching people leave the table because Bar Louie couldn't do the bare minimum. It felt like I didn't matter. Like my graduation didn't matter. Like my family didn't matter. This wasn't just bad service. It was personal. I left feeling humiliated, disrespected, and honestly heartbroken that such an important day ended like that. There were no congratulations. No smiles. No thank-you for choosing to dine with them. Just silence, indifference, and borderline hostility. I've worked hard for years to get to this point, and Bar Louie made it feel like none of it meant anything. So no--I will not be returning. And I will absolutely not recommend this place to anyone, especially if you're trying to celebrate something meaningful. Go somewhere that actually sees you as a person. Somewhere that will appreciate your presence. Bar Louie had one job: provide decent food and decent service for a special day. They failed miserably. Needed a midnight dinner option and Bar Louie was the only one still serving food in town. They serve food until 1 am which is great when looking for a late night snack! The bar and restaurant is very big and also pretty upscale (comfy seats!) They only had the late night menu option considering it was midnight, but I was still surprised by all the different burgers and appetizers they had to offer. The chicken and nachos were a hit, the dressing and cheese really added a lot of flavor. I got the hot honey chicken sandwich with fries. The hot honey chicken sandwich was dripping with honey, and could've been a little spicier but still enjoyed it. It did get soggy after a little bit. The fries, on the other hand, were too tough and chewy for my taste. Overall 4/5, good food available late at night! read more

We love having this Bar Louie location in Gainesville! The service has always been good and the staff are all friendly. We visited last night, within a week of this location reopening from COVID-19 restrictions, and the service was excellent. We sat on the patio outside, with chairs/tables 6 feet apart. Service was mainly the same and this experience brought back feelings of "normal". They also remained open until 10:00pm on a Sunday, which is impressive considering lots of other places close up early. The fish tacos and loaded tots were delicious. Great job, Bar Louie!
