we tried Jimbos after seeing it for years but never going in. it's small, divided into a small dining area separated from the larger bar area that has TVs for watching sports and drinking, as well as eating. the staff is friendly and service is fast. it's clean and you can hear each other talk, which is a big plus for us. I hate eating in restaurants where the music drowns out the conversation. the food we've tried in our two visits has been delicious. I ordered the filet mignon sandwich both times, with a side salad. it's their most popular sandwich. the salad was simple and so crisp and tasty. my husband got the steak and cheeses and enjoyed it. the next time he ordered the filet mignon because I raved about it. It was served with fries that were a bit bland and soggy to our liking. But the sandwich was perfect even though I always want more protein on the sandwich. It was still made well and not lacking protein. The sandwich was served with an au jus that complimented the sandwich a bit. The fries took away from the sandwich as the sandwich was great and deserved to have a better side than what it was served with. We also ordered wings (bone in). We had an order of grilled mango habanero and jumbo fried Thai chili. My husband who does not even care of bone in wings loved these wings. These wings were a great size, flavorful, tender, and overall 10/10 if not more for how the wings were prepared and cooked. Probably the best quality wings I have ever had and for the price it was well worth it. I cannot wait to go back and have it again and try other options for the wings. Service, it seemed the establishment was understaffed and the two that were there were working very hard to accommodate everyone as best as they can. If the public cannot understand how businesses suffer in todays economy with lazy people, then do not come here if you cannot be understanding and patient. The two servers observed n a Thursday afternoon appeared over worked but doing their best to maintain good customer service. The ambiance is a neat environment. I've heard many good things about Jimbo's over the past several years and finally got to try it for lunch with the family on a weekday. Getting there soon after they opened, they weren't busy, but by the time we left, they were moderately busy. The menu is loaded with good eats and according to the server, nearly everything is made fresh, in-house. The server also said they won an award for their wings, so we tried a batch - Half were spicy dry rub and the other half were Thai chili. Both were very tasty! The actual wings in the wet sauce, the Thai chili sauce were double the size though, which was odd. The server did an amazing job describing their Filet Mignon sandwich which is done on focaccia. She said the focaccia is a homemade rosemary style and this sandwich was amazing! The tenderloin inside was so very tender and perfectly cooked to a medium! The hand cut fries that came with it were great too. Service was great! The place is basically a sports bar. I had the Chicken Oranganato with stringbeans and homemade potato chips. It was a half chicken cooked with Mediterranean flavoring, which was very good. The homemade chips were good, and both were hot when brought out. The stringbeans just okY ND did have a garlic taste that over shadowed the stringbeans, but it was a large helping of beans, which was good. This was a good meal for the price. I could name five other casual eating spots within a few miles that offer solid fries. my burger looked nothing like the one pictured a poster posted earlier; perhaps they've changed. it came with no onion, the cheese had not even melted, the tomato was a "zero" slice and the lettuce was flacid and old. I removed both of those and just ate my $20 lunch (tax and tip) and vowed not to return. for the same price, Brass Cannon restaurant inside stonewall golf club has killer fries, a superior burger. It's been a long time since I've been in to visit Jimbo's. Stopped in this morning to try out some of their breakfast options - until a few days ago - I was unaware there is a breakfast menu. I ordered one of the breakfast specials - Sausage Gravy & Biscuits with two eggs. I also ordered a side of Hash Browns - not knowing the breakfast special comes with a side of their breakfast potatoes - and my server did not mention this. I wish she had - I would not have ordered the Hash Browns - or I would have inquired as to whether I could substitute them for the Home Fries. The breakfast was tasty - although I felt like they were skimping a bit on the Sausage Gravy - it definitely could've used some more gravy. The flavor was good, and the biscuits had a nice texture to them. I ordered the eggs over easy - and they were cooked properly. The Hash Browns are the frozen patty variety - toss them in a deep fryer and serve. I asked for hot sauce - your options are basic - Tabasco or Cholulu. I went with Cholulu.. The coffee was average. It's so good in fact that me and my girlfriend have almost turned it into a game of getting different things from there every time we eat there just trying to find something that isn't absolutely delicious. We have been several times in the past and always appreciated the yummy food and that they have gluten free buns and are knowledgeable about gluten free dining. Today my Celiac son's burger came out with a strange looking bun. I asked the waitress if she was sure it was gluten free. She said yes. My son said the bread tasted funny. I looked closer and then called over the host and asked for further confirmation since it looked like a whole wheat bun. He went and got the waitress. The waitress then eventually came out and said, "They are working on a new bun." No manager came over. Mistakes happen. Yes, they comped the meal that we could not eat without are asking. Although they did not remove the up charge for the gluten free bun. But the utter callous disregard and lack of concern about food allergy is why we will never be back and they get 1 star. The waitress should have taken my request to double check at the beginning of the meal before we ate seriously. Then when realizing the food on our plate was harmful, instead of having the kitchen start a new bun, she should have rushed out to let us know not to eat anymore. Lack of staff training and management presence makes this restaurant too risky to eat at again. read more

Since the stay at orders started due to Covid-19, we have been trying to support small restaurant owners in our county on Friday and Saturday nights. Tonight's supporting local we did carryout from Jimbo's Grill in Gainesville... Their menu is all american fare so we tried their wings and their reuben sandwich since these were popular menu items. The wings were average (America's best is still better) and not spicy at all...at least not to us. The Reuben was on point though. Good size sandwich with perfect portion of pastrami to sauerkraut to russian dressing. read more

I really like this place. Unfortunately I had a very bad experience yesterday. I was sitting at the bar eating when the person next to me started to use their vape. Apparently this isn't an issue in this establishment because several people who work there saw her. She was kinda drunk so she was hitting it hard. I rate it 5 stars for what it is! Jimbo's is a local owned dive bar that is run by good people and serves fantastic American fare. Good burgers, nice breakfast options on weekends, a fantastic bacon chicken Sammy, great wings, and some other treasures on the menu like gourmet hot dogs. The ambiance inside is a local dive hang out and the decor is not going to win any awards, but it feels like it has a good local vibe. I would love to see this place get a makeover on an HGTV show as I believe it will be in business for many years to come. The staff are genuinely good folks and treat all the customers really well. We have been going here for years and often do takeout as well. My daughter's (a connoisseur of tenders and pasta haha) favorite spot for chicken tenders (hand breaded in house) and creamy homemade macaroni and cheese. read more

This was my second visit to Jimbo's, whose motto is "the Cheers of Gainesville." On our first visit, I had a pulled pork sandwich, and my husband had a bacon cheddar burger. The pulled pork was fine but the burger looked amazing. So this time I had the bacon cheddar burger and he had the filet mignon sandwich. They were both crazy good. The burgers are half pound and incredibly juicy--a hazard for me, since I rarely escape that situation without spilling on my clothes, and this time was no exception. The first time we sat indoors which is very "pub-like"--clean but nothing fancy--televisions, booths, tables. Probably a nice place to watch your favorite sporting events. The second time we sat outdoors because, although it's August, it was breezy and nice. Nobody else was on the patio. The patio is pet friendly as well, but we didn't bring our dogs. We agree that these are the best burgers we've had in this area, which is saying a lot with the density of northern Virginia and the number of restaurants. My husband says he can vouch for the wings as well, and all three visits he's had have been excellent. read more

Small ish place in a strip mall. Good beer selection. Very attentive and nice waitress!!! Pretty good looking menu, but you only get one shot. I'm getting 2 dawgs for 12 today, with onion rings (Chicago, and Cincinnati). Boy getting chicken, bacon and Swiss sandwich, other boy getting the salmon with mash and rice. My baby girl is getting a cheeseburger with tots Gotta say, not a huge fan of places in strip malls, but what's left. The food was all solid, and although if you compare the Chicago dawg to actual Chicago, you'd give it a 2 for appearance. We have been going to Jimbo's for the past five years or so since moving here. They have a great selection from burgers and sandwiches to salads and entrées. It seems to me that it may be a Greek American menu. Mostly everything we have ever gotten. There is delicious. They also have excellent tater tots that can be purchased instead of french fries. Also, they are homemade blue cheese is not to be missed. Prices are not terrible either. The place itself is like a bar and grill inside. I had a $10 gift card that I had gotten back in like 2014, but it was like when would I ever be in Gainesville? I do travel for work around MD & NoVA, but it was a matter of how much time I had to spare, if I had already eaten, etc. On Monday, I had work travel to Warrenton and was coming south from US 15. I remembered this gift card, parked at the BB&T on Heathcote Blvd, looked in my car, & then looked up the address. I realized Jimbo's was down the road; I had assumed it would be off US 29 since practically everything in Gainesville was off 29. I had plenty of time before my meeting in Warrenton; so I decided to drive over there. When I walked in, the sign told me to seat myself, which saved the time of waiting for a hostess to seat me. This place is more of a dinner spot with a bar & several TV's with mostly sports. I picked a seat in the smaller dining section. I looked up their Monday special on Yelp, and there were many positive reviews on their hot dogs, and the pictures on Yelp looked appetizing. Their Monday special is $7 for one & $12 for two. I went with the $12 option since I had the $10 card I wanted to use, and I just wanted water. I knew from the pictures that the hot dogs were pretty substantial. I asked the server if I can have a side salad instead of fries (since 2 hot dogs was already a lot; fries would've been overdoing it). He said that was fine. He was efficient bringing my salad first. As for the hot dogs, they were amazing. I got one that was Cincinnati and the other was the Dewey. Cincinnati comes with chili, cheddar cheese, and onion. I said no onions, but the server did not write down the order, and there were onions, which I picked off. This is why they are getting 4 instead of 5-stars. The Dewey dog comes with mac n' cheese & crushed BBQ chips. As great as the Cincinnati chili dog was, the Dewey was even more amazing. This meal was a real treat. The service was fast. I was in & out of there in about 30 minutes. I would highly recommend Jimbo's for the hot dogs. read more

We love Jimbos! Burgers tend to be our go-to. However, their hot dogs are amazing!! So amazing in fact my picky 10yo actually tried one and now often requests it for dinner. We had a Pittsburg hot dog which is a jumbo fried dog with baked beans on it. The beans were good but a little dry. The hand cut fries are good and not greasy but for me they were a little dry. The hot dog itself was great and very juicy. The mashed potatoes are just okay to me. The honey bbq wings were edible but they didn't taste like honey bbq sauce at all. I'm wondering if I got someone else's wings. All three people in our party tried them and they all said they didn't taste like honey bbq. They didn't smell like honey bbq either. Beacon blue cheeseburger is great, not sure if they make the patties, but they are tasty. Fries seemed to be double fried, almost too much, but again they were tasty. Great background music. I travel to Gainesville to visit my aunt. My first meal is always Jimbo's. Today I was heartbroken. It took 30 minutes to get waited on just for drinks. Then another 20 to get our meal ordered. After 25 minutes finally got our meal. The fries that are normally crisp and delicious were limp and greasy. I was extremely disappointed. There was only one person at the bar and one person serving/taking orders. I may give them one more chance because of past experiences. Just a sad poor experience. read more

It is sad that Jimbo's ownership would facilitated the alienation of a large segment of potential customers by injecting politics into the sports themed business model. When having a meal and beer, I don't want to hear alcohol fueled banter about Joe and/or Hunter Biden, and/or Donald Trump, January 6th or any other political topic for that matter.
