BLUF: good American style food in a comfy atmosphere Four of us went for dinner on a weekday evening. The service was friendly and responsive. Try to get there during happy hour deals for appetizers because it cuts the price substantially. Had the burger slider and avocado egg roll appetizers. The burgers were very good, and when I asked for some mayo to go with the burgers the server brought it promptly. They don't give you quite enough dipping sauce for the avocado rolls, so go ahead and ask for them to give you two containers of dip right from the start. The french fries were tasty but a little bit overdone. Also got the cheeseburger which was very tasty came on a nice brioche bun. The only complaint was that I think the food took a little too long to come out. Nothing terrible but probably about 5 minutes longer than I think it should have for relatively simple bar food. My family and I have always enjoyed dining at BJ's Brewhouse. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff is friendly, and the service has consistently been excellent. Because we visit regularly, I wanted to share some constructive feedback about our recent experiences. While the food has often been very good, lately it seems that consistency has become an issue. During our most recent visit, I ordered the Chicken Alfredo. When it arrived, the sauce had an orange tint rather than the usual creamy Alfredo appearance. After taking a few bites, it tasted much more like macaroni and cheese than Alfredo. I mentioned this to our server, who was kind and professional, but he assured me that it was the Alfredo sauce and explained that the mac and cheese sauce is packaged separately. As someone who frequently orders both Alfredo and mac and cheese, I felt confident that what I received did not taste like a traditional Alfredo sauce. While this experience was disappointing, I want to emphasize that our server handled the situation courteously, and we still left a good tip because the service was not the issue. I am sharing this feedback because my family enjoys coming to BJ's and would like to see the food quality and consistency match the high standard of service that keeps us returning. BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse in Gainesville has always been one of my favorite restaurants. Their food has always been delicious, flavorful, and served as soon as it was ready. Service has always been excellent, except for drinks served to my table from the bar, but I don't want to mention that now. I love their hamburgers and fries, and their fried chicken with mashed potatoes with white gravy. Their Pizookie is a must try and when you do, the next time you eat at BJ's you will always need a Pizookie for dessert. They do have Brewhouse in their name for a reason. You must try a few drinks from their bar. Remember to order drinks early and prepare for a wait. Their wait staff has always been attentive to their customers. I also love their atmosphere. I hope you will give BJ's in Gainesville a try and remember to order their Pizookie. read more

Came last night and with a few friends, our server was Layla, she was rude but we didn't have a problem with it that much. came today with one more friend and she saw us and shook her head with a disgusted look. we were going to get sat in her section and was told "no, not with me" by layla. We ate here on a Sunday night for dinner. We called ahead and got our name on the list so once we arrived we were seated right away. When we first arrived the music and TVs were very loud. We asked our server to turn them down and he got the TV muted and the music turned down. Very glad about that. We appreciated that they did that for us. Service was a little slow today but it appeared like they weren't expecting to be that busy on a Sunday night. Our server was nice though. The food was great. When I travel for work and I choose places to eat, I try to avoid chains. BJ's is one of those exceptions. They're usually pretty consistent and the food is pretty decent and I know I can count on them. But at this location, the service was horrendous. I'm not sure if this server was training or just too busy chitchatting with colleagues behind the bar, which is where I sat. I sat for 10 minutes before she came up and took the receipt and empty drink away that was left over from the previous customer and said thank you as she walked away. And then informed her that those were not mine and she seemed shocked. I placed my drink order and a soup and salad order and waited patiently. They all came fairly quickly. But to get a refill on a drink or to get any sort of attention from the server was an effort in vain. I had to ask other bartenders to help out. After she took my plate and drink and didn't ask me if I wanted another drink, I sat and waited for another 15 minutes before I had to flagger down to get my check. Gina helped us and she was incredible! Talk about attentive, charismatic, and well prepared- she anticipated our needs before we even stated them and made our time here a blast. I've been to this restaurant several times as it's right across from the hotel I stay at for business. I usually hit the bar when I'm solo but have sat in the dinning area as well. This is a chain so I'm using my "Chain Restaurant Scale" The staff has always been way beyond exceptional every time I've been here. I mean bend over backwards and super friendly. I ordered sliders and I think it was the cook that brought them to and made sure I had what I needed. I think she was genuinely interested and not just acting. Their house beers a very good with a good selection and they have gobs of the beers. Talk about a well stocked bar! Here's the kicker--prices here are way below the backwater town where I live and this the DC metro area The decor, background music and general background din of conversation is just right for this old curmudgeon. The wait here was incredibly long, I don't understand why the staff bothers to give you an estimate or number of parties ahead you when it's not even remotely accurate. We put our names on the waitlist around 6pm and were not seated till WELL after 7pm (we were told there were only 5 ahead of us. Meanwhile there were customers who walked in and took seats not at the booth or bar but what appeared to be regular seating. The food is fine but simply not worth the wait here on nights that are even remotely busy. Furthermore there were people with reservations we witnessed wait 20-30mins past their reservation time based on the complaints we heard, several others waiting were getting understandably frustrated. We've lived in the area for 8 years and have seen the management here just deteriorate over time, it's a shame cause we bring our child here since it's loud enough and family friendly but we will take out business elsewhere. read more

Took seats at the bar while waiting for a table to open up. Bella the bartender was fantastic! Service was quick and friendly. Actually the highlight of the evening. Once seated the wheels just fell off. While the waiter had a good personality, he was largely inattentive. When the meals did come out, both were cold. We don't really like sending food back, but it was just way to cold to eat. The second round of entrees were better. One was hot, one was lukewarm. Making matters worse the meals were pretty bland. This restaurant has gone down hill. I say this as a former employee. I actually opened this location. Service is terrible. Management doesn't care. Food quality has gone to the gutter. When I opened this place, the training was extensive. There was steps of service required to be taken to ensure a smooth experience. It's obvious they have let that go. The booth we were sat at was filthy. The host had to wipe my seat down bc it had food all over it. Took us 10 minutes to be greeted. The server did not even apologize for the long wait for us to be greeted. We were fully ready to order when he arrived. He was not helpful when we asked questions and seemed annoyed that I asked for a recommendation. It took 6 minutes for me to get my root beer , that was served with no ice. I ordered the salad and pizza combo. The first cesar salad came on a dirty plate. With sticky sauce on the outer edges so I had to request a new salad. The pizza taste like it was microwaved. No crunch to it. It's soft and soggy. Also / when guests order pizza it used to be a step of service to automatically drop parm and pepper to avoid the guest having a hot pizza waiting on topping. I of course had to request these toppings. salad was underwhelming, didn't taste like a cesar and was over dressed. I'm severely under impressed and disappointed Also, I made eye contact multiple times with the manger visibly unhappy shaking my head and he's too busy goofing off with staff. I just had to comment here. I was getting ready to go check out this restaurant, but after reading these reviews I'm not in any hurry. I think the most awful thing is that every single response from the restaurant not only comes from a generic business address instead of a person, the restaurant's responses to the various comments and complaints from customers are so canned and formulaic, it's ridiculous! If it were me and I got a response like that, it would make me 10 times more mad and guarantee I would never go to this restaurant. My favorite is where repeatedly they would say "please send us an email and tell us what problems you have had" when the customer just told them exactly what was wrong!! WTH?! Yeah, they really need to get their customer service act together, because at least from what I've read here, it's terrible. read more

Stopped into today for Lupper (Lunch and Supper, could be Linner but you get it...). We were seated fairly quickly but waited a few minutes before a server came to us, seemed to be some confusion over whose table we were. The food was delivered in a decent timeframe and was hot with decent portion sizes. The deep fish ziti hit the spot. Cheesy and with just the right amount of Italian meats. The garlic bread was tasty too. The blacked salmon was very good, seasoned well and cooked well. The rice and broccoli accompaniment left us with no complaints. We didn't order any appetizers or desserts this trip. The restaurant was not overly busy and appeared clean and orderly. We have no complaints... Go grab a bite!! read more

We decided on ordering a Pizookie Trio; you get an option to get 3 mini pizookies with a scoop of ice cream each. We came in on 1/20 to celebrate my birthday. it was about 16 of us. I already had a bad feeling for the server (he had a man bun & shaved sides) cannot remember his name because I don't even think he gave us one. To start off he seemed annoyed that he had us as a table. He was inattentive to us only checked on us about 3 times during our 3 1/2 hour experience. He was irritated about the check splitting & we were trying to make it easier on him but he disregarded all of that. It took 20mins to bring our drinks, his excuse was "I'm waiting on the bar" - no one order bar drinks only soda and sweat tea and lemonade. We asked if he could bring out the kids items first once we ordered (an hour & half in mind you) because the kids were starving he said that was impossible. he catered to the other tables he had more & he even split their checks (6 of them) without compliant! he made us write on a paper what we ordered so then he could go separate (our check was only split 5 ways). He dropped a glass of lemons to which the glass broke on the floor (it was not cleaned up) that was a concern as there was a lot of children. the manager was seen checking on all other tables and walked right passed ours without even a greeting. I hate to make it about race but it felt like we were discriminated against during this whole encounter as other tables with the opposite skin as ours received outstanding service. The ribeye was paper thin and over cooked, we sent it back, the broccoli cheese soup bread bowl was cold, and the cheese not even melted. The leadership of managers are talking to customers and making sure everything is ok. The servers are knowledgeable and helpful. Food is hot and taste-full. We walked in on Saturday as a party of 2. The ambiance was fairly casual. We were greeted and seated promptly. We ordered a flat bread, Asian salad, and the prime steak weekend special that comes with a salad, pazookie and 2 sides. We got the caesar salad and for sides we got the veggies and upgraded one of our sides to sweet potatoe fries for an upcharge. Our steak and fries came out cold. The side veggies,Asian salad, and chocolate chip pazookie were good, the rest I'd probably never order again. Came here last month before a Sammy Hagar concert in Bristol, VA. While the restaurant was beautiful and very clean, the food was nothing to right home about at all. My wife and I shared a pasta dish and wings. Literally, the food was tasteless. I really wish the management paid attention more to the quality of food they serve. My family and I were on the way back from a nearby Regal cinema and wanted some food and drinks. I've never personally have had a good experience at a BJ's Brewhouse, but today was surprisingly pleasant. There was no line whatsoever and our waiter, David, was absolutely amazing. He put a lot of effort into making sure our experience dining here was the best. He made great suggestions on food and drink choices, I ordered the baby back ribs with a wedge salad, and steak fries. The ambiance was also very nice with some colorful music in the background, not too loud, not too quiet. This whole bill was definitely worth $2.75.
