The time to get any type of service was slow, and the hostess decided to go get us some water. The waitress was nice and trying to accommodate us, but I believe the kitchen was backed up. After we decided to not go with the Prix Fixe, we ordered drinks and an appetizer. We both ordered the sandwich with the chop salad and pay a little extra for chop salad. My burger was not cooked to order. Those still juicy was overcooked. The salads weren't chopped they were regular salad. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich, which has not sat well with her since she started to eat half of it. The other half is now being thrown out . What we realized is this is just a bar with food not a restaurant that serves drinks. Really sorry to give unflattering review, but I can't point anything other than a friendly waitress and receptionist as positive for our visit. read more

I came here with friends for the first time. We got a bunch of the appetizers and they were great! We got the nachos, fried mozzarella, butter flight, and burrata. All were great! The drinks were also good. Our server was nice. My only complaint is that the wings are super tiny. I asked the server if they are always that small and she said "yes, they're flats". The wings are indeed all flats and I knew that when ordering but did not expect them to be that small. The sauce on them was good though and they did put a lot of them on the plate. I'm confused as how to rate this place--TERRIFIC experience during two visits late in 2022 (they'd only been open since mid-year) then suddenly they closed in January for "rebranding," which in this case sounds like "turning it into TGI Fridays." I was told they're putting up scads of big screen TV inside so you can always find your game which, great, I guess? But why sacrifice a place with unique personality, menu and bar -- which seemed to always be busy -- to create a suburban sports bar? Ah well, easy come, easy go. Lovely location, delicious food, and the friendliest wait staff! This is a must try for anyone in the Richmond area. My husband and I snuck over here the first Friday of opening week and we were not disappointed! We are so glad we were able to snag the reservation when we did. I had the cocoloco to drink (yum!) and if you enjoy coconut and rum I'd recommend this. We shared the Sweet Potato Tamale as an appetizer - very good flavor and texture. The broth was tangy and really complimented the dish We couldn't decide on which taco to try so we did the FCT and the shrimp tacos. Both were very good. Don't let the two tacos fool you. They are larger and fuller than a street taco. We also got a side of broccolini and the crispy potatoes. Both were great sides to compliment the meal and perfect for sharing. The queso was sharp, the salsas spicy. The crispy potatoes were a work of ART in that sauce . My salmon was cooked to perfection in a cool coconut broth and herby veggie salad. Partner's steak was cooked perfectly and coated in a delicious chimichurri sauce. We also ordered the bread pudding for dessert and it was top notch . Cool, new spot for us near-westenders... the four stars does directly to their house-made ranch dressing, which is insanely delicious I get it every time. Side of fries + ranch. Side of cucumbers + ranch. Wings + ranch, but I don't eat meat so I just eat the ranch. Also, their salmon dish is amazing. And their pimento cheese appy is my favorite... with the pickles and the bread. Perfect bites. Staff is great as well! My wife and I came in last night at 7:50, waited a few minutes to meet the hostess which wasn't a big deal. We were seated at a high top right across from the kitchen and bar, a great location. Then the wait began......Plenty of staff both on the front side of the house and the back but still we waited. 10 minutes went by, my wife got up and asked the bartender if someone was going to see us. Meanwhile three waiters were hanging out at the point of sale and talking but not engaging any customers. The Bartender, that my wife spoke to goes and tells the manager behind the bar, we both see this now and so we're expecting some service, nope just stared at us.... Service till midnight huh??? Finally we got up walked and left, my wife told the hostess on the way out nobody ever came to wait on us, she just shrugged her shoulders. Been there maybe a dozen times and always loved the Nachos and wings. I went recently and it seems like they swapped out the amazing wings they used to carry which were so petite and delicious. Now they serve larger wings just like everyone else and the flavor is not there. Please Please go back to the wings you used to serve it really made for a unique experience. read more

My husband and I went to bar west for a late lunch/brunch. We both had the brunch special which was pork shoulder with polenta and eggs. We were so surprised on how delicious everything on the plate was. The service was great and the atmosphere was fun. We will definitely be back to try more of the delicious dishes. They also have two outdoor areas one in the front with a fireplace and one in the back which was a little bit more private. Looks like a great spot to enjoy on warmer days as well. read more

Draft margaritas were a little lacking in flavor, but decent. Tuna dish was very tasty, queso was nice, chimchurri potatoes were very good (especially dipped in the queso), lamb ribs had a nice flavor to them, lobster enchilada could have done with a little more lobster/seafood, but tasty nonetheless. Started out with an espresso martini, while it was different and tasty, I tasted no alcohol so tried a mojito and it was better but severed in a Manhattan glass, Now the food which took forever....the fried cheese was good but a bit greasy. I had the breakfast sandwich, it had an odd sour taste but was plated nice. The service wasn't great either only saw her 3 times. First off, the place is new and mad busy so reservations highly suggested . Second off, the place is more lively than romantic, the porch seating is a nice option. The service was fine, especially considering they were newly opened. The waiter comes and takes your order then food runners bring it and you don't see them again, but it ran smoothly. The raw tuna was the highlight. Everything else was really just slightly above average Latin food with a much better presentation. Having the sauce drizzled in a picturesque way in a nice setting is cool, but it's not worth 4× what you'd pay at about half the Bodega in town. Beautiful place,good service, slightly above average pedestrian food. Perhaps all rhe well off west enders in there are just terrified to go into a Bodega so they think it's groundbreaking cuisine? read more

This restaurant delivers! We had something's in the water which is the perfect level of spice in a margarita. We got three appetizers: broccolini, brisket pupusa, and the carrots. Each was amazing a delicious with unique flavors, definitely recommend the broccolini. The lobster enchiladas are perfect for a summer dish and the catch of the day was flavorful and well prepared. And last but not least, the desserts! You may not finish them but you will take them home for a snack because they are too delicious to leave! Amazing Chef's Table experience! If you are looking for a special dining experience, I'd highly recommend it. Brandon (chef) put together 4 courses that were each 5*. We started with an amuse bouche (a wonderful ceviche). Next was a jumbo lump crab salad. Then came my favorite dish - cast iron seared scallops with spiced butternut squash, brussel sprouts and smoked sausage - an unbelievable explosion of flavor. The main course was duck frites - I don't usually enjoy duck, but this dish was delicious. Finally, we had a brown sugar caramel tart for dessert. Wow. To make it even better, the ambiance was terrific - we had our own little nook in the restaurant with a fireplace on the TV. And Austin (our host server) provided exceptional service and paired each course with wine. Many of the varietals we do not trypically drink, but the pairings were perfect. A lot of things about our experience here were excellent. I absolutely loved the mezcal jalapeno pineapple drink! The yellowfin tuna with jicama and plantains and my husband's carnitas entree were both tasty too, and the service was great. Unfortunately my ny strip was tough and not at all delicious. I'm a big chimichurri fan too but this chimichurri was just lacking compared to others I've had. It was a bummer bc with a $30 entree you would expect it to be at least decent. I still ate it because I was super hungry and didn't want to stick around any longer with 2 small children in tow, but definitely would steer clear of steak here again and it's a bummer to have wasted that much money on a sad dish! Otherwise though it was a decent experience -- not exactly sure it's worth the $$$ but maybe with some fine tuning. read more
