Here are a few things that make this spot great. 1. The dine-in menu is good and the specials are good too. Our favorite was the Southside Omelet because the ham looked to be real slices of VA ham and not packaged meat. 2. The coffee is good; they said it is a special blend of Blanchard's Coffee for this location. I always like supporting local coffee over Starbucks. 3. The pizza. My family orders the pizza from here and it is always good. 4. The market. You may find items here that you can't find in the grocery store. Some are speciality and some promote healthy eating. Lastly, don't let the exterior discourage you. Relics from the previous establishment may be confusing but it a Kitsch aesthetic that brings in a little history and quirkiness to what would otherwise be a straight forward diner. Love it for what it is.

Currently the best pizza in Richmond. Giustino killed it with his dough recipe. Always good, a little difficult to get to from city though.

I was surprised to find this ABC store wasn't on Yelp yet because it's been here for years and is…read morecentrally located. It was pristinely stocked, had a plentiful selection, and the staff was "Absolut"ly friendly and helpful! We were planning a party for a friend. We went in to purchase those tiny little bottles of booze to fill up a piñata (see? even grownups can play this game lol!) so we had to stick with the plastic bottles. The salesclerk came over and assisted us with our selections. The manager told us about the sales, he gave us some recipe ideas and we all had a nice chat while shopping. Check out was a breeze, maybe I should say a "sea breeze". Pop in here for your next hooch hookup...

When I walked in after their remodel, angels sang, a bright light came on and I spun around in circles smiling with happiness as I couldn't believe my eyes. Okay, that's a little dramatic but that's what happened in my head as I've never laid eyes on such a beautiful ABC store! I'm used to the boring aisles with bottles lined up, uncomfortable mirrors so the clerks make sure no one is stealing and pretty much no décor other than some random cardboard advertisements for liquor but NOT THIS PLACE! They had a beautiful set up of seasonal liquor displayed at the entrance. A tasting bar built in. A beautiful display of airplane bottles on one wall and actual décor on the walls that made me want to say "I'LL TAKE ONE OF EVERYTHING!". If that wasn't enough, a salesman asked if I needed help and when they couldn't locate a bottle of pumpkin liqueur that I needed, he called a location down the street and had them hold it for me. Way to go ABC store, now if you renovate all locations like this, I'll be speechless!

Had a lovely experience at J Emerson at their most recent Sweet Wine Tasting Event. I was able to…read moreindulge in tasting 15 different sweet wines from Vermouth to Eiswein for a very reasonable ticket price. In addition to the wine tasting, each tasting station was paired with a curated dessert as well created by Chef Eva Letteron, creating a very well rounded event. Walking in, I was immediately overwhelmed by the selection. The store reads like a treasure trove for both the novices and the wine experts, with every inch filled with impressive bottles. They even have a rare finds section for those seeking more elusive bottles. The owners and workers were all very kind with some appearing more knowledgeable about the products than others. They offered great insight in helping navigate all of the options. As a person who is new to the wine world, I greatly appreciated how accessible the tasting event was and how the information provided about the available wines was simple enough for even a wine newbie like me to appreciate. One thing to consider is that while the building is fairly sized, the walkways can feel a bit tight due to the numerous shelves and wine containers. Which may make it slightly challenging to navigate when the store is crowded, especially for those who may need more space. They did offer a discount for the tasting event which was a nice touch. I left with a bottle of Foi et Li, a delicious botanical forward vermouth that has only had 9000 bottles made. I'd definitely reccomend J Emerson if you're looking for a sweet wine or a rarer bottle to impress those at the next gathering!

The staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful and want to please. In addition to wine, they sell cheese of hard-to-find varieties, like a hard Honey Goat Gouda that is wonderful! The shop is situated on a street with cute cafes. Free parking is provided in a lot in the back, as well as on the street. The shop also issues a monthly informative newsletter offers a wine club as well. We're so happy to have discovered J. Emerson!
