When I chose Baraka Gemstones & Jewelry, due both to its intriguing name ("baraka" means blessings) and great reviews, I didn't really expect a fast repair, but that is what I got. The owner, Jamie, was so pleasant about the small job I had that I went home and brought him two more rings. He did them all, quickly and well, and for a very reasonable price. My fiancée and I went to Jamie to have my engagement ring resized (as it belonged to my man's mother who's practically bird size)...while we were at it, we had him resize a ring to fit my partner as well...a super bling diamond ditty, with a band of intricately fused white gold wires, a ring that belonged to my grandfather who wore this thing on his pinky as far back as I could recall (he was quite a baller!) I was in desperate need of help to get my wedding ring cut off. I hated to do it but after 23 years I had developed some sort of allergy to gold and my finger had turned red and started oozing beneath the gold ring. I had tried everything from ice to strings to epsom salts and had finally given up and wanted to cut it off before I lost a finger. I reached out to several jewelers in the area and only Barkakaś owner, Jamie, got back to me right away and offerred me an appointment the very next day. His shop was beautiful and he and his staff were so kind to me. He explained the process completely before he started working on my finger and was so gentle throughout the process. He was able to cut it off with ease and took the time to talk to me about allergies to metals and which tend to be the culprits, as well as advice about how long to let my finger heal before considering replacing my wedding ring. He provided his services and expertise completely free of charge. I was so grateful! I will be heading back when I replace my wedding ring! He was understanding as we went back & forth on fine details of the rings, updating designs several times until we were happy. Jamie has beautiful, high quality gemstones and jewelry. A few tips for doing business with him: Don't take very long to choose something. He hates to waste his time. Don't change tour mind. That drives him crazy. Don't try and order custom settings for his stone. I tried three times to order a setting for a gemstone I bought for him and waited for months for a quote. Never got it. Finally went elsewhere. Don't try and sell jewelry to ho him. Be bought a heavy gold necklace from me for melt price, then turned around and sold it in his shop for 7 times what he paid for it. Even if you have lots of money to spend, dress up when you go to see him if you want to be treated with respect. Be prepared to wait. I waited 5 weeks to be able to pick up a gem I agreed to buy before he could fit me into his busy schedule. I paid $4800 for it, so it wasn't a cheap purchase. He is not very patient. I took my ring into Baraka Gems when two of the prongs of my engagement ring had shifted and loosened around the stone. Both Taylor and Jamie were incredibly kind and helpful and gave me multiple options to how we could address the problem and how to avoid something like this happening in the future. I came in to make a current ring with a stone into a band and was not sure what to do with the diamond or if it could be reset so it did not protrude out. With Jamie's expert knowledge, he guided me into a great decision to place the diamond back into the original family heirloom ring I had. I was given a ballpark quote that was competitive and brought the piece(s) in the next day. Although turn around time was not especially quick (about 10 days), I was pleased with the workmanship for setting the stone and thought that the appraisal seemed true to the piece's value. Exactly how it's supposed to work. We went to Baraka several times while shopping for our wedding rings. They have a great selection of estate (pre-owned) rings that were very beautiful and greatly priced. They also have a good inventory of new rings and can order others. We bought our rings over several visits, and Jamie was very helpful and made us comfortable with the buying experience. He ordered several rings in different sizes for us to try, and unlike different jewelers we met with, he applied absolutely no pressure. He also gave good consultation on other rings we were considering, and offered to resize anything we needed. We eventually purchased two simple gold bands that fit great. My fiancé and I went to Baraka for repair on our engagement ring because the metal holding the diamond was weakened in the resizing process at another jeweler. It was a complicated fix and needed a partial rebuild, and Jamie, Shane, and their goldsmith Julian spent a lot of time with us discussing our possibilities and making sure we were getting what we wanted. We just picked up the ring, and we couldn't be happier! Julian did exceptional work! He maintained the ring's original design and the diamond on top is much better secured. All of this was for a reasonable price that didn't change throughout the process. We can't recommend Baraka highly enough. In 2018, we lost my grandmother at the age of 101 years old, and she left to her grandkid(s) her engagement ring and the wedding band that she wore for 74 years. As you can imagine, it was a bit dingy after 74 years of wear. We took it to Baraka Gemstones and Jewelry to have it restored, clean and resized. They did a magnificent job and it looks brand new. Now this is where our story gets funny. The restoration was done by my brother when he planned to give the ring to his soon-to-wife. Well, that didn't go exactly as planned, and months later, I was the one bringing the ring back to Baraka to be resized (again), to have the wedding band and engagement ring separated (again), and to have engravings removed rather than added. Jamie and team took it all in stride and laughed along with us, and gave to me the rings that fit me and are still equally as beautiful.
