First of all, if you go here, you have to know that it's amazing. It could be a little bit of a wait just to get the food with the line but I advise everyone to take the suggestions of everyone working there on what to get. I mix all the sauces together to get the nachos. Even the new enchilada burritos are amazing, with the red sauce and of course, we didn't take photos because we ate it all before I did take a photos. We have been here multiple times and usually get it to go but I have seen people eating there and they are just enjoying their food. So the ambiance is just like a normal, fast food restaurant type, but the food is not fast food style. Please note the spice level is not ghost pepper spicy it is more flavorful with a kick. I would recommend trying the soup and adding everything to it as well as the green and red sauce, also adding the cilantro lime sauce because it's just delicious. When arriving at Barbacoa, I got a bowl with no beans and was charged extra for having enchilada sauce on the bowl. The total price of the bowl was $12 for this price at chipotle I get double the amount that I got at Barbacoa. As you can see in my photo me amount of food you get for the price is very minimal. Service was good and the restaurant was clean, but if you want a bang for your buck and want to be full with many more portions go to chipotle or cafe Rio. read more

I was hesitant to give this place another shot, since me first experience wasn't the best (food poisoning). This place is great! I had the steak burrito salad with all the fixings. I was surprised it was $11, that seems a bit expensive. Maybe the guacamole was like $2 for the two scoops. Not sure. But the place was quick, clean, the food was fresh and the service was great. There are plenty of fresh mex restaurants where you select your fare however for me, Barbacoa has the perfect blend of flavors and the icing on the burrito is fresh limes. I work across the street, so we end up eating here fairly often. They are a fairly new place, however the customer service never seems to improve. It's always an awkward experience in line as they serve your food, as well as with the check out. They seem to not have a good system in place, and half the time there is some error in the receipt. As for the food, it's prety medicore, particularly their vegetarian options. Instead of meat, they offer cold vegetables as a substitute, which are never chopped enough. The people I'm eating with usually get the meat options, with some pretty gnarly results. The portions are also off as well. You usually get about three tablespoons of the good stuff, and a cup or two of rice. To be brutally honest, each time we eat there, my office-mates and I swear it's the last time. Why I Went I go to Barbacoa frequently only because it's walking distance from school. What I Like about Barbacoa vs. Chipotle Whole wheat Tortilla Option: Not offered at chipotle and I always order it. Burrito Mixed Option: After your order is made the burrito engineer neatly mixes the ingredients together so the flavors and textures get a chance to homogenize. This makes each bite better and more evenly distributed. I think you could get this at Chipotle on request but this is standard operating procedure at Barbacoa. Wrapped Taco option: Honestly I have now started ordering this more than the burrito. This is like the old school Taco Bell Cheesy Gordita Crunch on crack. For an extra 99 cents per taco they melt cheese on soft taco shells and wrap them around crunchy taco shells. The texture contrast and flavor is indescribable you have to try this next time you go it is DEFINITELY worth the extra 99 cents. More Meat Options: Chipotle only has chicken steak carnitas barbacoa a new sofrito option. Barbacoa has two types of pork (Barbacoa Pork/Sweet Pork(Myfavorite)) Two Types of Chicken (Shredded Mango Chicken/Grilled Chicken) Barbacoa beef and steak. Better Portions: Chipotle is usually pretty stingy especially with meat but Barbacoa usually gives you more meat and just more generous with portions overall. I'm always full when I leave. It seems like all the Barbacoa locations I eat at are getting worse and worse. A couple weeks ago I picked up dinner for the family. My wife and I both commented that our burritos were not good. The food seemed old, the lettuce was extremely bitter, and the taste was off. We went back the next week thinking it was just a fluke. This time the rice was either undercooked or overcooked. It was crunchy and gross. They get 1 extra star because this location gives a free quesadilla with each burrito for the kids. Thankfully cheese and a tortilla are easy to get right. read more

I used to love this place. It was a staple during my pregnancy. However, it has gone downhill. I went today for lunch and was horrified to find a cockroach running around under my table (after finishing my food. Yuck). I peeked at the kitchen floor on my way out and thought I saw a dead one on the ground near the drive through window. Makes me sick. Anyway, the customer service is also sorely lacking. Their credit card machine stopped functioning and they told me I could wait for 10 minutes to reboot or pay cash. I only had $6 but they said they wouldn't take that although if I'd paid nothing they would have had to throw it out anyway. I waited the ten minutes and the machine still wouldn't work- they swipe my card at least ten times. I hope I don't have multiple charges on my card. I've reported to the health department and will not be returning. Explains why I am always the only customer there when I have gone in the past.
