    Family Platter (Small)

We had an awesome visit to Kenny J's BBQ! We shared the smaller family platter and added the turkey breast as our extra meat, which was incredibly tender and flavorful. For our sides, we chose the mac and cheese and the potato salad, and both were classic, delicious comfort food that rounded out the meal perfectly. I'm kind of picky with potato salad but really enjoyed Kenny J's version. We really enjoyed the whole experience and are already planning our next trip back--I've got my eye on the fries and that Texas sheet cake for round two! And don't skimp out on the BBQ and hot sauces.

This was our first time visiting this restaurant...but I'm always on the lookout for some good bbq! This place did not disappoint. We got the family meal with pulled pork, brisket, and the hatch chilies sausage along with funeral potatoes and potato salad. I have to say the meat was very tender, juicy and flavorful! I really liked all of the meat we got. The sides were good too. The potato salad was my favorite side that i tried...lots of dill flavor! The service was very fast and friendly and the interior has a really cool vibe. You can even see the outside area where they smoke all their meats! I would definitely recommend this place and will be back!

Wow - this was one of the best bbq spots I have gone to. Even though the line is long, it moved fairly quickly. You ask them for any of the meats for any weight and you watch them bring a whole slab of meats to the cutting board and slice them to the desired quantity. Some of the meats that we got that were delicious were the pork ribs, the burnt ends, and the brisket. There was also bbq and spicy bbq sauce that you can douse the meats with. Don't forget the sides - the fries were one of the best I've ever had and I'm obsessed with fries. It may have been top 3 fries of my life. The fry it in beef tallow which is probably the right move. And other delicious sides we got were the beans, Cole slaw, corn bread, and funeral potatoes whose recipe is by Kenny's mother. The staff was incredibly friendly as well - Kenny's wife checked in on us often to make sure we were well taken care of and even offered to show us the smokers in the back - though if we weren't running late we definitely would have taken up on the offer. Wonderful establishment and highly recommend to anyone visiting Salt Lake City

First time here and we were greeted at the door with an explanation of what to expect and how ordering works. Amazing! The line was short but they move people through very quickly. The food was SO GOOD!! The smell hit you on the way in and the taste does not disappoint!! Absolutely recommend and we will definitely be back! The family platter was a great deal!

Every thing was amazing food was fire. Remember food don't slap. Food hit. Staff and owners are amazing. Best bbq in Utah. Hands down

We really enjoyed Kenny Js. Always on the look out for a good BBQ spot and this place did not disappoint. Our only critique is that the baked beans were not quite soft enough and I only mention that because my wife love to order baked beans. Kenny and his wife showed us the BBQ pit and smokers and were extremely kind. We will definitely be going back!

Every once in a while we get a craving for some bbq. I'd never even heard of Kenny J's until finding it last week and I'm glad we did. Staff and service is great. They are fast and friendly. I love how they use tallow too! It's a large space with plenty of seating to help yourself, plenty of high chairs for baby (wall of photos w babies and the rib bones lol), and they encourage you to check out their smokers out back. By the drink station there are regular and spicy bbq sauces as well as some slices of white bread. Everything was tasty to me but the ribs... I WANT MORE ASAP. My husband said when we got the food that we'd probably have leftovers. I said I THINK NOT. Everything was eaten. I hope we go back real soon. And next time I just want a bunch of ribs.

My son and I were craving some BBQ and remembered that there was a new place that opened over at The District. We weren't sure what to expect, but found ourselves in line during a lunch rush and learned that you order your side(s) first, followed by the slab of meat. You pay by the pound, and it's a little tricky to know just how much to order. So we ended up with more than we could eat, but it heated up nicely later for leftovers. The flavor was good-I especially liked the house BBQ sauce. Not too spicey and just the right amount of flavor. After we were done, I noticed that there was complimentary bread, which might be a nice side to the heavy food. Next time.

Food Quality: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Don't skip on: The Brisket and Pulled Pork First time trying Kenny J's and it was fantastic! This place reminded me instantly of Terry Blacks, one of my favorite Texas BBQ places. There was a good variety of sides and meats - we got the Mac and cheese, green beans, and funeral potatoes (a nod to Utah culture). Sides are sold as Single, Pints, or Quarts. For the meats we got the brisket (both lean and moist options were offered), pulled pork, and the signature sausage with hatch chile and cheese. Meats are priced on the board by the 1/2 lb. Somehow, the way this was priced gave me less of a sticker shock! Haha! Everything was delicious and smoked very well! I was most surprised by the brisket - this is one that a lot of places mess up and Kenny J knocked it out of the park. Same goes for the pulled pork- it's usually dry, but this wasn't. Each bit will filled with flavor that you don't need a sauce! In case you like a little more "umph" to your meats, their BBQ sauces were delicious. Both the regular house sauce and spicy sauces had great flavor and not too overpowering. Norma was our cashier tonight and she's just the sweetest girl. It was a great time talking with her and learning about the restaurant and finding out her parents owned the restaurant! How cool is that?? The restaurant was very well kept and had plenty of space for seating small and big groups. Can't wait to go back and try more!! P.S. - Kenny - I wouldn't be heartbroken if you added Beef Ribs to the menu ;) I'll be back for sure for that!

This is a really good bbq spot, a little pricey (what bbq place isn't) but at least you get your money's worth. I had the ribs and Mac and cheese, and there's a lot of meat on the ribs, much more than most other bbq places I've been to. Everything is sold by weight, so you can order 1 or 2 bones instead of a half rack. The Mac and cheese was good too. Service was quick, everyone was really friendly, and there was plenty of seating. I will definitely come back.

Julie and I took all four of our grandkids here and we loved it! And so did the grandkids! We had the platter which included pulled pork, brisket, and ribs and two sides and with drinks the whole thing was around $100. The food was wonderful. And it's a bright and clean and really nice place. We didn't get to meet Kenny, but we did meet his wife and she was delightful. This is a family owned restaurant. And there is no tipping by the way (they pay their employees well). Using the YELP5 star rating system we give this place a perfect five stars for the food, service and ambience. We will return.

This place is definitely my new go to BBQ spot. Utah doesnt have many bbq places but this place is definitely a top spot. This family restaurant had definitely worked hard to make themselves known for their first year open. To start, the workers are very nice and helped alot with trying to figure out what to order. They even offered up samples to try. As well as taking us in the back to show us their smokers. As for the food. I think any of their sides is a good choice. My go to being their mac and cheese and their coleslaw. Then the meat, again any is a great choice. Obviously go with what u think you would like, but I didn't have anything here that wasnt good. Easily a top spot in the growing south jordan area.

Head to The District and search out Kenny J's right next to the movie theater and west of Red Robin and Blue Fish. Actually, just follow your nose. The beat smells are coming from Kenny J's. The line is long, but it loves along at a clip. You'll choose your sides first, then head over to one of 3 stations to choose your meats and pay. Get the brisket. Get the smoked turkey. Get the Mac and cheese. Get the banana pudding. Everything is sooooo good, but if you much choose, start with those. There is plenty of seating and you may be at a family style table with strangers. Keep the conversation queued to the food and you'll find you have a lot in common. Seriously good bbq. Kenny does not mess around with mediocre. You'll want to come back again and again, until you've tasted the entire menu. Then you'll want to come back again and again to order your favorites. Bravo to the staff for quick service and a clean establishment. If Yelp allowed for more stars, Kenny J's would earn them all.

Finding the place was the hardest part as we drove around the building nearly twice before we realized the deli must be accessed from inside. Once inside, we loved the natural light pouring in and the cleanliness and openness of the deli. We took a few minutes to go through the menu as they have a lot to offer- many standard and specialty sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers and more. The lady helping us at the counter was patient and amazing, helping us to customize our order with a smile the entire time. We each ordered a different sandwich- an italian sub, a cheesesteak, a hot ham and swiss and an El Cubano. We ordered combos complete with deli chips (bagged but yummy) and a fountain drink (Coke products!) Everybody enjoyed their sandwiches. The only minor complaint during the meal is the Italian Sub had too much bread, or could have used more meat to complement the bread. If Knickerbockers ever wanted to place a location in the Phoenix Metro area we'd love to have them!

It has loads of pastrami, salami and pepper jack cheese with toppings really piled on. My friend ordered the "Mister Ed" sandwich, loaded with roast beef, grilled onions, portobello mushrooms, and provolone cheese. The sandwiches were incredibly generous. (see pictures below) and will definitely feed a large hungry person. Waste no time trying this delightful deli at your earliest. We give it to our highest rating.

The pizza is good, I don't know that I would rank it super high on my list of good pizza in Utah, but it's definitely decent. We got the garlic knots the first time we went and they were raw in the center. I'm sure they're good when fully cooked though. Inside is decorated all NY style with photos.
