I came here with some coworkers and had a great experience overall. We arrived right at opening, and the restaurant filled up quickly, which says a lot about how popular it is. The staff was friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was excellent--the beans and rice that came with the dishes were well-seasoned with a nice bit of spice. The grilled chicken was cooked perfectly and had amazing flavor. I also tried the taquitos, which are listed as an appetizer, but the portion was large enough to be a full meal. Super overpriced for the flavor and portion sizes. The food was really dry, and they don't offer complimentary guac or salsa. If you do order them, you have to pay separately for the salsa, and the guac itself was unsalted and bland. Our server also couldn't give us a straight answer about the most popular menu items. Wow - Fraud! Went in for quick dinner for two. When the bill came, the server handed me a handheld CC machine to pay. The tip options were 3%, 5% and 8%. Baffled by this, I asked the server why it was so low. She answered "oh it's probably because you weren't in here very long. Me: "well I can't leave an 8% tip, so I clicked custom tip and put in an amount greater than 20%. Thinking this was all odd, I kept the receipt, and when I got to the car I looked and saw that they had already added a 20% tip before handing me the bill. So I paid about a 50% tip. While the total tip I paid is irrelevant to me (I typically tip over $50-100 for two at a nice restaurant), I'm just dumbfounded that a restaurant would engage in such deceptive behavior. read more

Amazing Mexican restaurant located in the heart of Holladay. Parking can be a little tricky however we discovered there's a parking garage behind this plaza. Taqueria 27 has a full liquor menu so there are many adult libations to choose from. They just started offering a Margarita Flight which is so cool. It's a mix of 4 different Margarita flavors to choose from. Our server tonight was on her third day but she was friendly and helpful and accommodating for our large group. We selected the carne asada and the fried chicken tacos. Delicious! Served with a side of rice & beans or street corn. Such an amazing meal full of flavor. Then to cap off our evening we shared a slice of the mango cake which was fresh and flavorful. Lots of new items on the menu. We started with the guacamole sample and salsas. The only bad part about the chips, guacamole and salsa is that it's so good. You gotta not eat too much so that you can still eat your fabulous meal. We then had the Poblano chicken platter. The chicken was very moist and the sauce was fabulous. The sautéed onions and peppers were a perfect addition. It also came with rice beans, pico de gallo and fresh corn tortillas. The tortillas are nice thickness and do not break when you turn it into a taco. We enjoyed the first warm day out on the patio with excellent service by Megan. These aren't your average "street" tacos and are more the designer / boujie type fare. Take note. Started with the G.O.D. which was a pineapple / cucumber guac and it was stellar. Portions were really small for the $11 price tag but for $8 I wouldn't say a word. But again, this is a hipster taco place. The tacos were excellent. ~$4 a piece and they come two to an order. Pretty good bargain for what you are getting. The Carne Asada were my favorite. The sauce, the well-charged meat, and the fries inside made a great combo. The Pork Belly were good, a little too "smooth" in flavor. The cherry tomatoes set a little acidity which was nice but that PB is so fatty it really needs a flavor to offset it a little stronger. Next time I'll throw more hot sauce on it. The wife ordered the T.O.D. which happened to be halibut. She chose grilled instead of fried and these were fantastic. Fresh fish tacos are a category of their own. Her other selection was the Citrus Pork and while good, were not something she would opt for again. Yum yum yum! We had a large group of us here last Friday night, and everything was delicious. We got here around 6pm and there was about a 30-minute wait to be seated, which was understandable because we were a large party and it was a weekend night. There was plenty of comfortable space for us to sit while we were waiting for our table. We all ordered drinks - the margarita special was a blackberry margarita and they were able to make it without alcohol for some of the people in our group. The drinks arrived quickly, and were very tasty. Always get a margarita when you come here! Their drinks are delicious. We were pretty hungry and ordered a few appetizers - their regular guac, guac of the day (which I'm forgetting now, but it had a little kick to it), and their queso. Their queso is a MUST! It's SO delicious - we should've ordered two. We were all scraping the bowl as we got towards the end of it. They have the option to order their tacos as a taco, bowl, or salad. I ordered the veggie taco bowl, which came with veggies, rice, and a tortilla in a bowl. I've been to this location a few times now, and love being able to visit when the patio area is open. Try a local take on specialty tacos with unique combinations of ingredients and guacamole combinations. Be careful about the flavor combinations, as strong flavors concede to nuanced layers instead. If you want great service with a smile, Gerri is the server to ask for. Pouring rain and empty stomachs drive us to T27 tonight. We started with appetizers: queso fundido (w/turkey chorizo) and the G.O.D. (guacamole of the day -- today was mixed berries, Gorgonzola, habañero and a balsamic reduction). The queso could have been hotter in temperature and the turkey chorizo lacked spice, something I was hoping would carry over from its Mexican cousin. It was not, resulting in a bland mixture that wasn't overly bad as much as simply just forgettable. The guacamole, according to my compatriots who actually like and ate it, was extremely flavorful and a burst of complimentary flavors that was well worth finishing. I had the turkey chorizo with chipotle sauce tacos and a second order of the T.O.D. (taco of the day): BBQ beef with mashed potatoes. As I had ordered the tacos prior to the queso, I had a sinking feeling that I knew how the turkey would turn out and I was right -- bland. I highly recommend that T27 spice the turkey up a bit and not rely on table sauces for that. Nevertheless, I ate them. What? I was hungry... The beef tasted a bit better but I did add some chipotle table sauce just in case it was as nondescript as the turkey. I didn't eat my last taco. This led me to save my stomach space for dessert. The tres leches cake had almonds on top and cream. It is enough for two or possibly three if being thrifty with the spoonfuls. I didn't like much the way it was served, which is likely due to my having this dessert every so often from Argentine and Central American restaurants. The churros with ice cream was the winner in this space. I've been here before and recalled liking it, but this recent experience disappointed me. I'm sure that many of you will enjoy it as is and that's okay, but for me I was looking for stronger flavors and a little more congruency. One of the more crazier experiences I've had at a restaurant. My three-year-old was, frankly, being a three-year-old. He was climbing over a bench that was a few spots down from another couple. A man was furiously outraged, and began to yell at my breast-feeding wife to control our kids. This ensued yelling from his part, defense from our part, and the man then proceeded to get in the face of my wife, who had just put our two month old baby into her car seat. Along with me and other staff members getting in the way of this crazy person, the staff reluctantly moved him a few tables away. So, you might be asking, what does this have to do with the restaurant? Well, as we were watching the man and his daughter finish up their meal, the manager came over and talked to him with a very hush voice. He never brought them the check. The two left without paying, and the restaurant had comped their meal! Absolutely unreal. Do you think they comped our meal? Nope. They comped the meal of the person who incited violence... Crazy. Nobody expected them to take a side. It was an argument between customers that had nothing to do with the restaurant. But the fact that they took the side of the person with the smaller bill, and the one who caused the whole event to occur, is absolutely ridiculous. I didn't expect them to comp our meal, but so hilarious they paid for theirs. read more

Then also got the Angus carna sada tacos the steak was well picked out perfect slice for this taco, it had French fries in as well so it was like steak and fries I thought it was genius and well thought out the chimichurri was so good. This location is located in a newer strip mall with plenty of parking and the same delicious tacos as the downtown and foothill restaurants. The seating here is plentiful and there wasn't a wait for a table. I noticed there was also a large room in the back that would be great for a private party since the doors can be closed. McKay was our server and he was excellent, so if your service was bad, you probably didn't have him. I was here with a group of friends so we got some guacamole to share. The Roasted version was a little too sweet for my taste since its made with sweet chilies and had balsamic, but it's pretty unique. For tacos, my go to is the duck confit and it was as flavorful as always and topped with crispy leeks that are so yummy! I also got the roasted mushroom taco and OMG - this is probably my new favorite! It's vegetarian and has an assortment of mushrooms, gorgonzola cheese and some chimichurri which is an awesome combination. Definitely give it a try if you haven't! Their tacos go amazingly well with the jalapeño cream ale if you're a beer drinker, but the margaritas are also top notch. End the night with some churros and you'll be in foodie heaven! read more

My scoring system: Quality, price, ambience, service, je ne sais qui (5 total stars possible) We came in for a quick bite having already come for lunch a few weeks prior. The place was packed and service was friendly and attentive from the start. We ordered the house margaritas which are uniquely made with blood orange. They were a nice change up from the regular style, but I would advise upgrading from the well tequila (your head will thank you tomorrow morning). Unfortunately, the chips and salsa with guacamole and queso were a disappointment. The chips were stale. The guac was meh. The queso was a melted block of oily cheese. Do NOT recommend. We should've sent the chips back at least. The tacos made up for it! We had the steak tacos and TOD which were shrimp with a nice slaw, micro greens and Sriracha sauce. We paid around $60 with tip. I think that's good value for the quality of entrees, high level of service and two adult beverages. Overall this is a good spot that has good/really good tacos. This was my first time here and omg it was delicious. I no longer live in Utah and i am here visiting so my mom treated me to lunch. The weather was great for patio seating. We were greeted by our server Sandy and she was so sweet. Had a smile on her face the whole time. We started with the classic guacamole which was flavorful and chips were great! My mom order the fish of the day tacos which was mahi mahi and she said it was delicious. I'm pretty plain so I ordered the Brent tacos with a side of pinto beans and they come almost deconstructed which I loved. Overall it was a great lunch with my mom! Great food and service. But the guac didn't taste like it had lime or salt in it, very bland with literal grape tomato halves which seemed like a cheap filler to not give as much avocado. We had a party of 12 including a 3 and 5 year old. We came here for dinner Following a wedding, it was supposed to be a special morning, The waitress sat another couple on the other side of our lg party/bench (with multiple other open tables available). Out 3 yr old was up and down moving around on the bench, like a normal child. So disappointed- have been going to Taqueria 27 since they opened their first location but the last 2 experiences make me question if they still have "it". Went for lunch a couple weeks ago and tried a couple different tacos that were all sub-par and looked like they were thrown together with the leftovers. Then tonight I called in a to go order after hearing mahi mahi was the FOD- I got a "full" salad and less than 2 oz of fish on top. The pears and lettuce we browned before I even dig in and some of the lettuce was actually slimy like it had gone bad. I spent $35 (after tipping the hostess and with chips and salsa) and I am so disappointed. Maybe it's just this location? Maybe it's because I ordered it to go (it was ready in 15 and I was there in 15)? Whatever it happened I guess I'll try somewhere else next time -and will stop recommending when friends ask for a quality restaurant. So bummed! This is one of my go to places for tacos! A group of 7 of us showed up during a busy Friday night. They don't take reservations but we only waited about 10 minutes or so for our table. The server was great. He was very knowledgeable about the food and drink menus as well as the specials. We ordered some margaritas and chips with guacamole and queso. Their queso is absolutely incredible! The margaritas were delicious. They even have non alcoholic versions. We all ordered an array of tacos. They never disappoint! I love that this place is open on Sunday! Not super busy but busy enough that I knew our food was fresh. If you want chips and salsa you have to pay/order them. The chips were hot and crispy, the salsa was good, I prefer the chunkier variety. Both salsas were smooth. I had the Buffalo fried chicken tacos (which were the daily specials) and the duck confit tacos. Both were delicious! My husband got the cheese queso fundido. It came with chips and tortillas. The food is horrible and bland and the cook was not wearing gloves and I witnessed him wiping his nose multiple times during the plating of my food. The manager must have been AWOL last night because everything was a mess including the chips and guacamole that had no seasonings at all. We have been there 20 or more times and last night sealed the deal! No more of this place where the mahi-mahi was burnt and put on top of my tacos with about 3 strands of slimy slaw. Just two people having two tacos and a margarita with chips and guacamole totaled $77.62 after the minimum tip was added. I also witness the hostess squeezing a zit on her cheek as she walked past our table, Come on man this ain't the place for that crap. I am never disappointed when I come to Taqueria 27! This Holladay location is a favorite because if you visit the downtown salt lake or the Lehi locations you will usually have to wait a while, but we got here on a Friday night and they were able to get a large group of 8 of us in. Workers were super friendly and patient with us as we trickled in and everyone was surprised by the prices because they thought it could be more. My favorite things to get here are the salads! Both are great. If your looking for a little more food, the Mexican Cobb is awesome, but the butter leaf pear is way good too. I also highly recommend the taco of the day. This place really is awesome. It's a great take on fusion tacos that are non traditional, but still so yummy. Our favorites are the PBLTA tacos. Last time we went we also got the Brent tacos which were yummy, but kind of charred, which gave them an overpowering taste. Luckily we mentioned this to the manager and she was insistent on making it right for us. So that was cool. They have some sauces that they bring out in little bottles, and the mild, green one was soooooo good. A little goes a long way. Their chips and salsa is yummy too, but I'd avoid the T27 spicy salsa unless you like straight heat style salsa, lol. It wasn't a fire alarm or anything, but in my opinion the heat to flavor ratio was just a little lacking. The pick style salsa is SO GOOD. We'll be back. read more

One bite and I am a convert to the interesting taco combo, and my new foodie goal is to sample them all. The rest of the my party reported their more traditional dishes were also great, and the watermelon-jalapeno margarita was so refreshing my husband ordered a second. What solidified the five stars for me was the friendly, attentive service and the adherence to current safety protocols.
