I rarely write reviews but I was so disappointed with my experience at Barbatella, I felt the need to share. For starters, our server rushed us to put in our appetizer and entrees at the same time upon arrival. And then she didn't check on us until we got our entrees. The only reason we were able to get a second drink was because the hostess came by and asked. We ordered calamari which consisted of a handful of sad pieces thrown on a plate, best part of the calamari was the fried artichoke. I ordered chicken parmesan which was a large piece of thickly breaded chicken, topped with pasta and chewy mozzarella cheese. Extremely bland. The only redeeming quality in terms of service was that our waitress offered me a different entree - I ordered the salmon. Also very bland. My friend ordered the linguine vongole. She said it was okay but he believes it made him sick since she didn't feel well that night and the next day. Anyway, we expected better food and service from a restaurant on 3rd. Won't be returning. I think we would have had a better experience at carrabbas lol read more

THE PICKY EATER FROM BOSTON Review: Barbatella 1290 3rd Street So. Naples Holiday visitors coming to town? I highly recommend an evening full of Christmas spirit on 3rd Street South with a fabulous dinner at Barbatella! With Christmas on the horizon and nary a snowflake in sight, we were feeling a bit nostalgic for that winter wonderland memory of a New England White Christmas. With that in mind we decided to get fancy, head into town and join in the Christmas Stroll on 3rd Street. And what a fun evening it was! I just love the setting of Barbatella. Nestled in the heart of Old Naples, we chose to sit in the lushly landscaped courtyard with twinkling lights, a gorgeous fountain and planters overflowing with bougainvillea. It feels like you've found a special little hideaway in Tuscany. We started with drinks and I ordered my go-to cocktail, a Belvedere Martini, up with olives with the hot rocks on the side. This time on the advice of a friend who is a Martini aficionado, I ordered it "bone dry" meaning little to no Vermouth...and it was excellent!! I think my complaint about my Martinis being harsh is totally relative to the amount of Vermouth. So it's "Bone dry" for me, from now on. My husband had the specialty drink called Naughty & Nice. A luscious concoction with Vodka, Bitters, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, fresh lime and Prosecco, decadently delicious!! Our server Michael was excellent; super attentive and so cheerful, eager to make sure everything was just right. This time I remembered to take a quick look at the ladies room, it was in ship shape! The bread basket arrived fresh out of the oven, crunchy on the outside, soft and warm inside. We whipped up a dipping sauce and dove in. Next we shared our favorite appetizer, the Arancini. ($19) Hidden inside the perfectly crispy crust is a creamy flavorful wild mushroom risotto, all swimming in a bath of delicious Black Truffle aioli. If we weren't in public I would've licked the plate! After that, we ordered a Regina Margherita Pizza cooked in a wood fired oven. It was just the way we like it; bubbly and ever so slightly burnt crust, sweet tomato sauce, gooey mozzarella and a dusting of Basil chiffonade. ($22) Next up was the Lasagna. ($29) I love Lasagna and this one was a standout. Layers of tender noodles baked with a delicious beef Bolognese, béchamel sauce with fresh green peas, lots of melty mozzarella and topped with shaved Parmesan. So delicious and plenty to share. We went full-on Italian but the menu is really quite varied with offerings such as Faroe Island Salmon ($42) or a 12oz. Black Angus NY Strip Steak ($65) We finished our dinner just in time to join the fun out on the street. At 7:00pm our winter wonderland fantasy came true with a real live snowfall softly wafting out of the streetlights! It's was such fun, Christmas music filled the air, people were bustling about, admiring all the gorgeous window displays, peaking at Santa sleeping in the crescent Moon and taking selfies with the kids in the snow! That very rare New England night when the winter Moon is full and the snow starts to fall, the trees are dusted in a blanket of white and all is calm...that's something very special. But strolling down 3rd Street in shorts and sandals in the middle of December with bedazzled Palm trees swaying gently in the breeze...even Santa would agree, that's pretty hard to beat. We have been to Barbatella's about five times now and each time has been consistently good, until last night when everything was great except my son's steak which was ordered medium and arrived well done. Good selection of appetizers, mains and desserts. Their Amarena Margarita is tasty but very sweet. read more

This was our first time eating here and we had a table of 12. Everyone was happy with the pasta dishes - just outstanding! We sat in the garden and it was beautiful and after our meal, the waiter brought desserts from the ice cream shop. The kids were impressed! read more

Just ok. If it weren't the only place open w reservations on Valentines Day, I'd never go there. The bar area is dirty. The service (someone named Slav) was awful. The food was okay, but it took forever to order. Not good enough for 3rd Ave in Naples. Barbatella does it right. Holly had sea scallops, I had everything else. We had a blast. The food! The drink! The bar is gorgeous. A classic standard in Old Naples. Down 3rd Street South. Maybe you've never been. Maybe it's been a while since your last meal there. Idk, The point is, Barbatella is always a great choice. We were taken care of by Gabriela and she was lovely. Unbelievable disappointment after the incredible experience we had at Sea Salt the week prior. Indoors vibe was very loud and "mall-like fast food" vibe. Waiter hovered, despite them not being busy was in a hurry to move us to the next course. I had the veal parmesan, which is a stacked hot, tough, fry mess. Mu husband's first impression was that I ordered an enchilada stack. TOUGH (crunchy & woody) large asparagus, topped with two large, made the prior day-tasting breaded veal chops, a thin slice of grilled eggplant, and a glop of lumpy tomato paste-taste red sauce and crowned with a glop of melted cheese. Put together like a Lego project. My husband's filet was tasty, but the plating with a side of flat mashed potatoes and three asparagus looked like it was assembled thru a cafeteria line. The Caesar salad was tasty, but was topped with a literal thick pile of shaved parm. 3 glasses of wime and $200 later, we will not be back. read more

Not a big deal but for a place like this we expected better. Reason for an extra star is the small addition next door. Thought it was only gelato, wished we went there first. They have nice seating by full glass walls. Brick floors go well with the pizza offered. A small area for retail products showed gluten free pasta mix, yet they don't offer it as a dish in the restaurant? The mango sorbet was the best ever. Can't believe it was so creamy yet vegan. $4.50 a scoop was well worth it. I'm returning just for this. Smoothies and other desserts were tempting but all dairy. Barbatella is a restaurant situated in the historic section of Naples serving up Italian fare and wood fire pizzas. I've been to Barbatella once before for drinks but wanted to try the food this go around. I love the atmosphere of this place but it varies on which side of the alley you're on. I prefer the side with the bar because it's more vibrant. If you are in the dining portion it's a little more traditional. The service here was on par for what you expect for a nice restaurant in downtown naples. The food however was forgettable at best. Nothing was terrible that I had but nothing was great either. For my main I ordered the Short Rib Ravioli "Boscaiola" that comes with black truffle cream & porcini mushroom. While the dish was solid, there was nothing about it that wowed me. The flavor was present but it wasn't popping like you want in a dish. I also tried my wife's branzino and it was bland so at least mine had some flavor. At least I was able to end on a high note as they make a good espresso martini. read more

7 lovely ladies dining on the patio of Barbatella to listen to Laz Arbos chat and enjoy dinner & drinks. It was quite busy not unexpected had a reservation for 7 promptly seated by the gracious host Mario. And a lovely evening commenced. Server Randy was prompt & attentive. Food was delicious many had the chef menu baked swordfish perfect polenta out of this world creamy cheesy & the broccoli rabe tender yet crisp. Others had salmon the pasta & sausage not an unhappy camper in the group. Bread was warm & crusty- delicious. Finally dessert which I rarely get my favorite crème brûlée just perfect crisp on top smooth & flavorful inside. The pistachio cheesecake was also delicious. Been here a number of times for couple times for coffee next door and decided to try for lunch. I had the Lentil, Feta and Tomato salad and he caprese panini. Both came out and looked very appealing... unfortunately my camera fell victim to a car running over my phone; so no pics possible. The salad was different from any I've had before and very nicely done... loaded with lentils and various types of tomatoes with a limited amount of baby arugula and just enough cucumbers to remind you they were in it, without overwhelming the salad. The panini was again a bit different from what I expected but in a good way. 1st off, the bread was not the typical huge sourdough panini bread but rather this much thinner fresh made grilled dough... more resembling pizza crust... crunchy on outside and soft in middle. Even more impressive about this bread was its ability to withstand getting soggy even with me spending more time writing this review while consuming... than actually consuming. Stuffing into this fabulous bread-crust concoction are 2 red and 2 yellow tomatoes along with a generous portion of buffalo-mozzarella, finished off with a dose of pesto and micro greens. The sandwich was accompanied with a small portion of homemade celery & pepper relish. The potions were significant, so much that I should have skipped the salad... and with that, would still not likely been able to finish the panini. Finally, servers here are great, something which in Naples you may find difficult to locate. This place is definitely one of the best kept secrets in Naples and worth a trying. read more

Based on the menu and decor, you would expect to be in for fine dining, but experience is much more like being at a fast food restaurant, with a bar. The raucous crowd at the bar and the screaming child two booths away were so loud, that the children had had to turn up the volume on their video games. The food was excellent, and the service attentive. They were very accommodating for an off the menu request, though it was hardly what my dinner partner and I expected for the prices. It did seem to calm down around pm when the only disturbance was one of the remaining children was kicking the seat. It seems like the perfect place for people who want a delicious food but aren't worried about how their children behave or how much noise they make. read more

We arrived on time for our reservation of 6, 4 adults 2 kids. The bar was super fast! The kitchen was super slow. 45 minutes to get a salad and another 45 minutes to get food. Two tables with 6 guests were seated after us and received their food well before ours, we even ordered most of the same for. We asked for the manager, he cared less that we had been waiting for over an hour for food. He scuffed at us and walked away, he stated, "your food is here now so you are good." Stopped in the other night and the food was great!! I had calamari and fried risotto balls to start off with the appetizers and they were both delicious. Indoor/ Outdoor seating, good for groups or a romantic dinner, family and pet friendly, they even own their own gelato confections shop, I reccomend the Rocky Road but the fudge mocha was a ball of ice! The Food- we had the grilled octopus as an antipasto- I have had better octopus before, this one tasted a bit fishy, so it wasn't very fresh, the pizza's are 10 inches round, good for 1 to 2 people, depending on how much you eat, they have a fat crust but the rest of the pie is thin. Some pizzas come with no sauce and others do, so make sure you read the ingrediants well! I believe with their location and ambiance, if they spruce up their food and provide fresher ingrediants, this place would be booked for weeks! Usually I am a bit apprehensive of visiting restaurants with recent reviews that aren't the greatest, but on this occasion, I came with my husband while visiting Naples and the service was great, as well as the food! The server Gabriela was really attentive to us, and my service dog Bruiser. She brought out water for him, the waiters were constantly refilling up our water cups, and everyone was attentive and kind. The food we ordered was wonderful as well. My linguine vongole had a lot of flavor, and the broth was deliciously salted to perfection. My husband's Margherita pizza was wonderful and you could tell it was not like your typical American pizza. Definitely reminded us of the pizzas we enjoyed while visiting Florence and Rome last year. We ordered Aperol Spritz, a calamari app, and tiramisu for dessert. The calamari was less/smaller than expected, but still tasty. The tiramisu was equally great. We arrived two hours early for our outdoor seating reservation hoping they had an open table. The hostess was able to accommodate us to an open window seating which was perfect. We had the charcuterie board with a glass of rosé which was a delicious combo for 2. The charcuterie board had plenty of cheeses, meats, olives including red olives. We split a salami pizza after seeing so many pizzas pass our table. We had a great server who did not rush us but when we said we wanted to go see the sunset, he brought the check quickly so we did not need to rush to the pier. Great food. Good wine. Wonderful service. Restaurant is close enough to walk to/from the pier. Go enjoy watching the dolphins playing in the water from the pier in the afternoon. read more

We visited for lunch and had a great experience. Service was friendly and efficient. We had a toddler with us and were very appreciative that they brought her kids pizza first. The kids pizza was $10 which seemed steep. As the small lunch pizzas the adults ate were also $10. But, she enjoyed it and ate the entire pizza, as well as the rest of us. I enjoyed the Capriciossa pizza with mushrooms, ham, and artichokes. I skipped the olives, but my brother in law got the pizza as it was listed on the menu. He wished he had also requested it without, as the olives were vinegary. My husband enjoyed the Barbatella pizza. They were all cooked perfectly, with thin and crispy crusts. My mom ordered the Neapolitan grilled cheese and it was so good! One of the best grilled cheeses I've tried. I'm surprised the lunch sandwiches didn't come with sides, but we left full anyway. I had a mojito, which cost $14...more than my pizza! We ended lunch with gelato. I had a sundae with two flavors and it was $9. But it was delicious. The prices are a little high overall, but it's worth a try, at least once. read more

We booked a reservation at Barbatella's at 5:45 tonight to celebrate my birthday. We arrived a few minutes early. We prefer 4-top tables so that we can hear each other better. The tall bearded gentleman standing at the hostess station assigned us to a 2 person table. We requested a 4-top table since there were 4 or 5 available. We were told that all of the 4-top tables were reserved. We sat at the assigned table, ordered our food, ate and paid the bill. When we left there were still 4 or 5 4-top tables unoccupied. As we left, I thanked the tall bearded gentleman for ruining my birthday dinner. He complained. read more
