After writing a glowing review of this place last season, I have a new take on this place this season. Let me say, I have visited this restaurant 3 times this season and at least 5 times last season. Last season was great...this season not so much. I think the main complaint this year is the lack of consistency in the food. When you find something you like but it is different each time...it is disappointing. This season we also found the staff to be somewhat less friendly and accommodating. The Hostess is consistently unfriendly and the manager uninvolved with the customers. This year prices are higher. A dinner for 2 cost us $160 all in...for 2 cocktails, salad, a scallop entree and a pasta entree. We had reservations already booked for another night but cancelled after this last experience. We are hoping to return to the old, friendly, consistent Barbatella next year. I hope some changes are made. Love their sister restaurant Grappino! read more

Went twice in the last week. We are traveling with an active 9 month old baby (and have been here too with our teens). Barbatella's ambiance is perfect because it's upscale but also family friendly. Staff members were very accommodating, and food is delicious!especially love the mussels, risotto balls, fresh salads and several of the pizzas. read more

Popped by Barbatella on a Saturday night at around 7:40 and was immediately seated (hard to find a place in Naples "in season" where that happens). We enjoyed the outdoor ambiance with live music. Very fun and lively. Our server was attentive but a little short and disappointed we were only there for a few drinks and appetizer prior to our dinner reservation at another restaurant. The drinks were lovely (tasty and strong) and the calamari (a little under fried and chewy) had a great aioli sauce. We ordered a round of shots as well but the bartender was unaware how to make the ones we ordered and had to be described the alcohols/how to make - a little disappointing as well. My group of friends were in the mood for Italian so we gave this place a try. Although it was pretty busy we didn't have to wait for a table. I ordered the Bolognese which quite frankly was very disappointing. I make a better Bolognese at home. Asked the waiter for cheese and it took a good five minutes or so for him to come back with the cheese. All our meals we're OK but I felt it was more like a chain restaurant than an upscale Italian. Barbatella review I posted We were a party of seven people that came with a reservation to this "restaurant " based on my experiences in this restaurant in the past.. They seated us  right next to the kitchen,  and when I asked to be moved away from the boisterous noise, coming from the waiters, laughing and carrying on by the kitchen, I was told that they had reservations for all the other tables, which remained empty during our entire 2 hour ordeal. Food portions were ridiculously small and my wife ordered the salmon which was described as it's the whole salmon. It was a 3 to 4 ounce piece of salmon with a dollop of mashed potatoes and two spears of asparagus for $42. What a bargain! Two others ordered the Dover sole special. The waiter had no idea to debone the fish. He piled the cut up fish like somebody had chewed by on the plate and served it. They were picking bones out of it the entire time they tried to eat it. This was a terrible experience not to mention the prices $16 martinis Vic Rye ginger $15 THis place has gone 100% downhill and we will never be back there. We are permanent residence down here in Florida and we deal with snowbirds asking us all the time for restaurant recommendations We will never recommend this total disaster of a "restaurant"! We enjoyed Barbatella. They have nice outdoor seating, providing the ambience you look for at dinner time. The menu was varied and reasonably priced. Our waiter started out a little dippy, but eventually came around and provided great service. I had the Italian sausage on polenta and mozzarella cheese. I little different that the 'typical' Italian restaurant, and quite nice. Good service, great food, wonderful atmosphere, fair prices - what more do you want? read more

We saw how general manager Mario( I believe was he's name) was screaming on our server! He made her cry... this is absolutely not right, not ok! This is not how you treat employees! what has happened to Barbatella? It used to be a favorite. Ordered the bucatini, ugh. The pancetta was raw, no taste of Parmesan in the thin sauce that the bucatini was swimming in. And where in France was that Rose from? it tasted like it was made from the dregs of the grapes. The service was good and the outside table pleasant. Fun, lively atmosphere. Wide variety of dishes. Portions are reasonably large. Friendly service. We made reservations and got a nice table out front close to the fountain. It filled up quickly and seems to be a popular spot. A nice place to dine al fresco (it was well shaded and they had heat lamps). We tried Ligurian seafood platters - it was delicious and they gave us a good amount of seafood (octopus, calamari, mussels, clams and shrimps). They offer gluten free pasta instead of spaghetti. The kid's menu offers a good variety of "real" dishes (steak, salmon, chicken fingers and Mac and cheese). My kids enjoyed their food. No complaints! Will come back again in the future! read more

We ate here June 13 inside in the bar area. Biggest mistake ever given all the great restaurants in Naples. It's one thing if the food is bad but the service is good, but when they are both bad, well all you can do is tell everyone so they don't make the same mistake. It looks inviting with the quaint outdoor patio but the food is salty and greasy, aka gut bomb. And the service was absolutely awful. Don't do it, keep walking. So many other good restaurants to dine at in Naples. Responding to business owner: Yes we did let them know, but the waiter was so rude. The right thing to do would be to refund our money and fix the problem so future diners don't have to eat your salty food and experience your horrible service read more

We had a reservation for 7:30 we were greeted warmly and seated immediately. We were greeted by our server and he said he would be back in a few minutes. We'll he took longer than a few because he was busy socializing with a table that knew him. We ordered off the sizzle menu, baratta salad, calamari, gnocchi with shrimp, veal scalopinni, we both wanted the lemoncello cake but were told they were out when we ordered. The calamari and shrimp were over cooked, the veal was tough and full of grizzle. We were very disappointed and won't be back. Less than seller service and the meal was not good. read more

Food was a 10/10! Their calamari was incredibly flakey and cooked beautifully! They also have 2-for-1 pizzas on Monday night, so we went with a big party and ordered every pizza on the menu (of course). Their dough was perfect. The good kind of thin and chewy, but still had a fluffy crust... perfect to dip in oil after. Staff was 10/10 also. Randy was our bartender! He as so nice and friendly! The food was not very good. Calamari was average, Caesars salad was bad and the pasta sauce has no flavor. Plus the service was poor. Has to ask for sweetener twice, asked for onion on my salad and I did not get it. And it was noisey, go somewhere else. read more

Delightful and delicious pizza. About the best crust anywhere. But it's not just for pizza. Had an artichoke Caesar salad, which although a bit heavy on parmigiana and lite on artichoke, was still tasty. Wednesday special is half price bottles of wine. Definitely worth a lunch or dinner. read more

Friendly service. Excellent expresso coffee, that was the best part of the meal. Salmon with burrata ($30) Nona spaghetti that's what we ordered. The demanding table beside us was offered Parmesan for their spaghetti, the waiter skipped us. High prices for mediocre food. We ate lunch inside as it was hot. We were one of two tables in the whole place at 12 noon - no wonder Campielo across the street has better food, better value. read more

I went to Barbatella on the suggestion of many friends, but found the food to be very bland and the service was dismal. It was a letdown for my dining partner's last night in Naples. Service: We were promptly seated, and received water quickly. The waiter must have had other things on his mind as he was nowhere to be seen for most of the meal. We waited to order, didn't get bread till the meal came out, and were stuck with our plates long after we had finished eating. He didn't really build much rapport and wasn't very helpful selecting dishes. My girlfriend asked some questions about the wine, which he just generally pointed her to the Pinot Noir section of the menu. While I generally appreciate an unbiased opinion, I was surprised that he told us not to order the mushroom ravioli, saying it was 'not good', but not offering a reason or another dish. Food: Bread + Olive Oil + Balsamic: Delicious. The Balsamic is tangy and so good. Late delivery though, it arrived seconds before our entrees arrived. =( Barbatella Pizza: The pizza was cooked perfectly, but the toppings were bland and flavorless. The sausage was good, but the eggplant, tomato, and buffalo mozzarella just didn't add anything. I ended up dipping it into the balsamic vinegar. The dough was perfect, a mix of crusty and chewy, but the toppings simply fell flat. Rigatoni Bolognese: Ordering a Bolognese, you'd expect a lot of flavor. But the sauce was seriously lacking. It needed a lot of salt and just didn't taste that good. The Rigatoni had a nice texture, but it didn't make up for the lack of flavor. Wine: The wine was decent and priced slightly lower than other restaurants in the area. Ambience: Overall the layout and decor is nice. Overall: This meal didn't stack up to the reputation I had heard from others. read more

Came for dinner on a busy weeknight. No reservation. All good. Seated within 5 minutes. We were seated outside on a gorgeous night. The place is really nice, has a great feel, and a wonderful view of Old Naples. Our waiter was quite nice and recommended an excellent wine to go with my meal. We ordered pizza and lasagna. The brick oven pizza was simply the best! So thin and delicious. I could have eaten the whole thing by myself but didn't. So the pasta dishes come in adult or child size, how cool is that? My crew ordered lasagna and approved it. We finished our meal with Creme brûlée and for some reason it was just okay. All in all, a great experience. I've always had a great experience here since this establishment opened. They've always seated us in a prompt time frame and accommodated parties ranging from 2 to 10 people. As someone who cannot eat gluten, this is the ONLY establishment that makes the best gluten-free pizza that tastes like the real thing (I was born and raised in New York and have tried many gluten-free pizzas across the country). We made on-line reservations and when we showed up early, we were swiftly taken to a table that was cozy with a fine view of the patio area. Very decent wine list. Very robust menu. All of us had unique items with no issue or complaints as to taste, temperature or presentation. Great bread. We asked for butter as some of us are not olive oil and vinegar dip fans. We had a wonderful time. Sat outside under the fan, it was raining. And peaceful. Our server was Angel. And he was very friendly and sweet. Had a great personality. The calimari was delicious. Our entrees were the red snapper and veal parmigiana. Delicious! We have a severely disabled son, so this was the first date out for us in all the years we have come with our family to Naples. (We have a nurse with our son now). Never take for granted the ability to enjoy good food, relax, and smell fresh rain to the sound of gentle jazz music. The cashier double charged our credit card for our gelato and kept us waiting while our gelato melted to mush as he called over two other employees to help him figure out how to fix it. Ultimately none of them were able to reverse the charge and ended up giving us the difference in cash (read: inconvenient coins). None of the three employees were wearing proper masks (all had extremely loose masks that barely covered their mouths and left their noses completely exposed). I can't really comment on the quality of the gelato since we were left with gelato soup by the time we walked out. We met up with four neighbors for dinner as on Mondays in the Summer the pizza is two for the price of one. Our fantastic waitress, Elizabeth was so attentive from the start to the finish! We all had drinks, pizzas ( Capricciosa & Barbatella ), and a decadent chocolate gelato dessert. The atmosphere was interesting and it was quiet enough so that we could all talk and have fun. My new favorite place to eat on Third. The owners of Sea Salt down the block took over two corner buildings plus a patio to bring an artistic, modern venue for Italian lunches and dinners. Also, there is a gelato counter for take away, and two tables with lemon yellow garden chairs if you can't bear to be far from the rainbow of gelato colors. Outside, the three-tiered fountain remains from when a garden shop was on the corner. It has renewed and a better life next to Barbatella's patio tables with big umbrellas. There's a long bar in one building, and b&w Italian movie star pics in another wing. Booths have raised texture coverings and a wall that lets in the fabulous Florida winter freshness, a la Tommy Bahama's. The menu is standard fare of Italian pasta and sandwiches and salads. Desserts include home made cupcakes with pretty names like "Turtle" and "Princess" Just to please everyone, there are marvelous pizzas for eating in or take-out. read more

Service was great! We stopped in for gelato and it was delicious! I'm an indecisive person when it comes to picking a flavor and it was no different with this experience! All the flavors I tested were great. I pended up picking the strawberry gelato and it did not disappoint, but if I could go back I'd probably get a scoop of strawberry and a scoop of the coconut. I wish I had gotten the name of the employee because he was absolutely welcoming, and might I add very patient! Attended the Gaja wine dinner last weekend. What a treat! The ravioli d'uovo were a show stopper! We live in St. Pete, but drove south for the dinner and stayed overnight downtown and we were not disappointed! We had friends from Ft. Lauderdale join us and we had a great time. All the food was wonderful and our waiter, Randy, was great fun! We even went back the next day for a pizza lunch...Randy was still there! Umm, wait. Um or YUM!! Yes sir re bob, this place is YUM!! You'll love this gem on 3rd. Not 5th ave y'all, this place is behind 5th ave and of you haven't ventured beyond 5th you are missing out! We had a fantastic appetizer of cheeses, eggplant, and mozzarella. There were other items on the platter, but I don't think I paid too much attention as we ate and talked with good friends. This place has incredible atmosphere and incredible food. Cindy ordered the eggplant parm. It must have been fantastic b/c she didn't share. Can you believe that y'all? . I had the veal parm and it was tender as all heck. There was one piece that had some toughness but it was just that one piece. The majority of the veal was amazing. This place is great. Great location and the outdoor seating is so great at night. The only issue with Barbatella is that the competition is so stiff for Italian in Naples! Food here is good. We come here a few times during season to mix it up and it's well worth the visit. Branzino is good. Pasta dishes are good. read more
