Many choices of fried or sauteed seafood with veggies and slaw, with counter service takeout or eat in at stools in the small lobby. If the weather is better, a pocket park offers outside tables steps from the door. An outgoing young man was our cashier, and then busied himself preparing for closing when we came in late on a Saturday. I ordered a sauteed flounder fish platter which came with simple mixed vegetables and coleslaw. The fish was so moist and tender and swimming in a mildly seasoned lovely broth. The veggies were seasoned and buttery, simple and delicious . The cole slaw was homemade but unremarkable. $8.99 for this healthy meal. Sign me up! Spouse ordered the soft flour shell, fried shrimp tacos and boy were they huge! Came here to get some fried seafood while on a staycation to AC. Barbera Seafood Market has been around for close to 100 years. We have been to it plenty of times in our over 30 years of visiting AC and we have never been disappointed. The ambiance is cosy with nautical themed items decorating the walls. They have limited seating in the small establishment, with the best option being sitting at the counter at the window to people watch while enjoying your seafood items. We are always greeted by pleasant staff. They have daily specials and feature a seafood case filled with a variety of fresh seafood items that you can literally pick and they will prepare in store or you can choose to purchase to go. Our go to is the flounder and fish platter, which comes with house made slaw and fries, and either a side of fried clams or oysters. The platter also comes with a canned soda, which you get to pick the flavor choice from the beverage case. We always enjoy our food in store and are always luck enough to grab a few seats. The flounder and shrimp platter was fresh and crispy, with a light coating that did not take away from the delicate taste of the fish and shrimp. The slaw was fresh and an ok side. The fries were crispy and nothing was greasy. The oysters were fried well and when bitten, popped with a nice, fresh taste. And don't worry my MD folks, they have Old Bay to dust your food (which I really appreciate!). We suggest coming as soon as they open or call your order in ahead of time to avoid the long line that forms. All in all, our go to seafood spot when visiting AC. read more

This place was excellent! Pleasant neighborhood seafood market. We sat right at the high tops and ate our food! We had fried shrimp, old bay fries, hush puppies, fried whole belly clams, fired sea bass sandwiches, soft shell crab sandwiches, sauteed scallops, coke slaw. There was not a single bad bite. We annihilated our first order of all I listed, & then went back to the register to order more things! EVERYTHING WAS REASONABLY PRICED!!! This is why we had no guilt about continuously ordering because we didn't feel like we were being raked over the coals, like other places who inflate prices just because. We always say, that when you keep prices reasonable, you'll always be in business! Everything at this market was fresh, & cooked to perfection. Been going here for years and they never disappoint. When you first walk in, you get the feel of an old school fish market, but then you see the chairs and the menu. My favorite is the shrimp and fish, you can really order any fish but I like the whiting . Everything is seasoned to perfection, but you have to eat it right away to have it fresh and crispy. Everyone behind the counter is always so helpful and will give good input if you are overwhelmed or just don't know what to get (for the first timers). I usually take my food to go but they do have counter space with chairs inside and they also have outside seating for those that like to sit outside. My only disappointment were my fries. I waited to long to eat them, they became soggy. Other than that, this is one of my go to spots for good eats in AC. 5/24/24 Hole in the wall seafood market that serves cooked meals. Just a couple of high table and a counter at the window looking out. I've heard good things about them so we came on our trip. Sadly we came just before soft shell crab season. We opted for the Seafood Platter and Fried Smelt Platter with a side of Scallops. Seafood Platter was good, had nice seasoning and plenty of seafood. Came with Coleslaw and Veggies. Coleslaw was good. Veggie taste like frozen veggie steamed, meh. Fried Smelt Platter was delicious! I like the small crispy bite size fish didn't even need the tartar sauce. The fries were crispy and seasoned. Side of Scallops was tender and fresh but not very seasoned. I needed a bit of salt. It was good seafood. We went back to AC in July but so many places to visit so we didn't get to stop by for the soft shelled crab sandwich which people told me I should get hehehe. This spot was such a hidden gem in Atlantic City. Has been open since 1919 and the taste was so fresh and flavorful. The family still owns the location and the service is top-tier. There's limited seating if you want to eat there but the locals definitely keep it busy it seems like a mostly take out. This place is a staple in Atlantic City and for good reason. They're doing seafood right and at prices that are unheard of there days. On a recent trip in I had the fried smelt platter and flounder sandwich. You can tell they've been doing this for a minute because my smelt were cooked perfect. The ability to cook such a small fish without overcooking is a skill mastered by few. I wasn't sure what to expect from a $5 flounder sandwich but any expectation I had was exceeded by far. The fish was fried and seasoned perfectly with a healthy portion. I really liked the buns they use too, soft but held up well with the warm fish. I tried calling ahead but I was unable to get thru so I went in to order. Total time between ordering and getting my food was about 12 mins and this was with a lunch crowd so pretty efficient for freshly made food. The tacos are just as reasonable. The fish is light, crispy, and golden brown. The bread is always fresh. You can order and sit inside if you'd like. There are high top tables and chairs inside. If you are like me, you want to eat fish while it's hot, so take a seat inside or run back to your car and put the seat back and eat up. Stopped by for a quick lunch and boy did we get a delicious lunch and treat. We were here for a conference at the Atlantic City Convention Center and needed to grab lunch nearby. Three saw the seafood combo platter and immediately went for it at $14.99. I didn't want so much so I got a flounder fish sandwich for $4.99. Food came out fast and hot! Easy to find with ample street parking. The gentleman was welcoming and very patient with me. The place was clean with its three high tops and six counter chairs. The prices were comparable. I opted for the fried flounder and shrimp platter with hush puppies instead of French fries. The fish was PERFECTLY cooked. Crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. The shrimp were good too. Both a little on the salty side so the Kelchner tartar sauce helped. The cole slaw was yummy. Crunchy and seasoned correctly. I did not see it until after I placed my order but there are a few items that was not on the posted menu (on top of the counter) such as the calamari platter. We ordered the 5 shrimp and 5 scallop platter for $13.99 and a seafood platter (1 flounder, 2 shrimps, 2 scallops and 1 crab cake) for $14.99. Each platter comes with fries and coleslaw. I replaced one of the fries for hush puppies which came in 4 pieces. The seafood was super fresh. However, the crab cake had a lot of fillers. The batter is light and well seasoned. The guy who took our order was so nice and friendly. He helped us choose a meal based on his recommendation and the founder fish was so good. Instead it seemed to be a takeout place (with a few high tables/ stools). The prices here are very reasonable, especially given the location. Ordered a soft shell crab sandwich. Crab was tasty, although a little bit too salty. I don't believe that there were many (or any) toppings. I would order this again, but probably also get something on the side as the sandwich by itself may not be enough if hungry. read more

I came here on the Jitney from the Ocean Resort, the stop is on Georgia and Pacific but then you gotta walk a couple blocks over to Arctic and Mississippi, Barbera is right on the corner with a red awning. We were looking for a lunch spot and found this on Yelp. It's a fish market but also serves cooked food and I am so glad we decided to go here! I love seafood and of course if it is fried, even better! We shared the seafood platter and for $15, it is a steal. The fried scallop was my favorite, so soft in the inside. For $15 I am not expecting a lot of crab in the crab cake but it was like a crab croquette which I loved! The fish was so flaky and we knew we would have to get that fish sandwich later which we did the next day to eat on our way home! The fish sandwich was a steal at $5! It's a good amount of fried fish and just so flaky. The bun is a potato bun which makes always the perfect sandwiches.
