After a long day at the beach, my friend and I stopped by for a seafood dinner. We chose a corner table on the deck and enjoyed the fresh air. We had the drunken steamers, shrimp cocktail and crab bites for apps. They were all good. And then we shared the Captain's Combo which included flounder, shrimp, scallops and a crab cake. We ordered take-out, and while the meal was okay, we probably won't be ordering from Obadiah's again. Two lobster rolls: minuscule portions of lobster, shredded, and obscured by shredded lettuce. One comment: "Well, I guess this is okay, if it's lobster." One order of broiled flounder: Not sure that fish was a keeper! Judging by the size of the filet, it should've been thrown back to spend another year or two growing. It was passably cooked (should've been pulled off the broiler a bit sooner), and the kicker, it did not come with the promised slaw (broiled platters are supposed to come with "one side and slaw"). We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at captain O s. We noticed they stopped full service. You now have to order at the front counter.... Wasn't always like this. I also felt the portions were super small for the prices. I got 2 little shrimp tacos lol. Pretty absurd. But the seafood was fresh and tasted very good. I've had better bisques so those were 6/10. I typically don't leave reviews, but after getting fleeced for $70 for the most sub-par sea food meal I've had on the Jersey shore, I had to warn others. My girlfriend's lobster roll was decent at best, will give them a thumbs up for the fries. However, I got the broiled ahi tuna, and I just about laughed when it came out. It was the most minuscule of cuts, and completely overcooked with zero seasoning when I ordered medium rare. Speaking of seasoning, I was told the potatoes would have their 'speciality in house seasoning' which prompted me to select them, and when it came out, there were 4, unseasoned, barely boiled red potatoes. Not too sure how this place has stayed in business for so long. Love supporting local business but you must do better!! I'm not the type to send something back, and I didn't, but if I wasn't so hungry I would've asked for a refund. Very disappointed. read more

I went to Obadiah and ordered a Shrimp boy sandwich consist of two small pieces of shrimp on it. Talking about cutting food costs. What a disappointment. The lobster roll was garbage, they should be ashamed of themselves. An experienced operator does not do that and stay open long, but it's a summer operation and they own a few more places so that's how they stay open. Service was very good & friendly.When ordering our food the two severs took the time to explain how things worked with ordering from the form that comes with your menu. Giving 1 star for service only. Came down to the area to relax for the week, nothing fancy. Went out a little later, had to unpack. We stopped by Obadiah's figured on some seafood at the shore. Arrived around 6:45 pm. They close at 8pm. People were inside in line and some more were coming in behind us. No sooner did we get in the door, either an employee or the manager yells out," It's gonna be a looong wait for orders and we're closing soon." I guess that was my clue that maybe they made enough money for the day and we should go somewhere else . I didn't even taste the food, the service left such a bad taste in my mouth I won't go back, so we went right down the street to the Tuckahoe Inn, glad I did. It's like a full gaslighting to make you think it's better and worth paying more for: "Cajun battered" flounder is exactly the same as a regular fried flounder. Shrimp po boy is literally a bunch of fried shrimp WITH TAILS ON STILL on a sesame (!!) semolina hoagie roll with a small stripe of "creole remoulade." Not worth it! What a shame. read more

I've gotten the salmon, crab meat, medium shrimp and scallops - all were the best I've found in the area. We sat down for some prepared foods - fish & chips, tuna steak and mussels. The fish & chips were good but that is about it. Small kitchen with limited space so assuming there is just a deep fryer and a microwave? Food came out room temp and dry. We absolutely LOVE Obadiah's. The food is amazing! The people are wonderful, and the view is the best! It's casual, just the way we like it. We travel 2 1/2 hours from Pennsylvania. We randomly chose to eat here and we're not disappointed. We were a little concerned with how empty it was, but tried it out anyway because we were hungry. After a week of hitting up all of our regular places (Preps, Smitty's, Mack and Mancos, Hula Grille, etc), my picky 9 year old declared Obidiah's the best of the week. What a pleasant surprise! In all my years of coming to Ocean City, today was my first time to stop at Obadiah's. I needed a quick dinner before going grocery shopping (don't want to shop while you're hungry!) and thought I would try out Obadiah's. Although they appear to be short staffed --and seriously, who isn't at the shore this summer?--the people who helped me were so polite and informative. I wasn't sure where to order and if it mattered if I sat outside (on the super casual deck) and the worker behind the counter explained everything to me. There is a great seafood menu as well as beer (cans & draft) and some mixed drinks. I had the fish and chips but decided to switch the chips for cole slaw and that wasn't a problem at all. The fish came with lemon, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. The batter was crispy and the fish was tender. My visit was on a Tuesday night so it wasn't very crowded. I am so glad I decided to come here. I will definitely be coming back with family and friends...and if they are busier than tonight I will be patient and just enjoy my time outside on the deck bc the food and the atmosphere were that nice. read more

I want to say that no matter how great a business is and how remarkable the food is it does not give the right for the owner or any worker of a business to react in a way that humiliates or upsets customers. My wife and I, our friends and all of our children had the pleasure of eating food here but the service at this business was less than satisfactory!! You must understand that accidents can happen and you should have some humility and consideration when it pertains to the feelings of your guests. We have stopped a couple of times on the way home from the beach. Comfortable shack with big outdoor tables. Your order is pretty efficiently run out to you. Raw oysters and clams were excellent and perfectly chilled. Fried flounder and scallops were a hit. Scallops were wet-pack but still sweet and scallopy. My crabcake was a bit dry. The low level of binders was good but a bit of moisture was needed. I loved one Chesapeake-area approach using a little mild mustard. Or puree some of those scallops and shrimp into a mousse; makes a light, airy but effective binder. Anyway, we would come back if we visit Ocean City again. A pleasant and relaxing end to the day. Oh yeah, they had good sized cooked male hardshell crabs in a case, but they were unseasoned, and I really prefer blue crabs steamed with the seasoning on rather than applied after. If they prepared some both ways I would have picked up a couple of dozen. I did not ask so maybe there were more in the kitchen. read more

We just attempted to have dinner at this restaurant. We ordered a pound of king crab legs, they were $52 a pound. When they brought us the king crab legs they were so small, and when we open the shells there was only half the meat and it wasn't very good. It was obviously frozen, and we brought it to the attention of someone who seem to be in charge. He was very rude, told us even though we tried to return the rat legs and asked him for some kind of exchange, he told us that the market is very expensive now and this is what we get. He said it is what it is. I did not want to pay $52 for crab legs I did not eat. He told me he would call the police and so I just paid. So for $52 they lost customers, my bill was actually $110 for the oysters and the other drinks we had. The manager was rude, and the food is not impressive for a sure restaurant. My family has been coming down to OC since the early '80s. I have passed by this place too many times to count. I promised my wife seafood and she suggested this place. OMG I wish I stopped here sooner. The menu is a little limited but the food really good. The portions are big. The prices are good. My wife loved her oysters and shrimp. The shrimp are HUGE!!! Far bigger than any other place I have been to down the shore. If you want seafood you should check this place out. It is now on our list of places to eat. read more

Obadiah's, while not directly on the bay, was your classic seaside, low-cost, no-frills, beer-and-seafood restaurant. It is, first and foremost, a fish market and happens to have some tables outside on a deck for anyone who wants to eat there. I believe that they are only open until around 7pm. You basically go inside and order and then go out to the deck and your food is brought to you. We took advantage of the midday special (2pm-5pm) - $7 bucket of beer (5 beers) and $7/lb snow crab legs. They also had $2.50 blue claw crabs and .35 clams. All of the food was very good. My wife decided to try the wings and they were great - crispy with the sauce on the side. We sat at a picnic table on a deck with a bucket for shells inserted into a hole in the table. It almost felt like we were at home or at a friend's house, just relaxing on a nice day. The service was super friendly and we had a great time. We will definitely go back. read more

Located a few minutes outside of OCNJ is the Obadiah's "compound". Apparently, Obadiah owns several eateries all lined up next to each other right off of Exit 25 on the Garden State Parkway. Don't get confused.....you don't want to wind up at the high end restaurant (Yesterday's-located across the street) in your bathing suit, covered in sand, and looking for $10.00 buckets of beer. Anyway...back to Obadiah's Seafood Market (the building that looks like a shack). It provides copious amounts of fresh seafood that can be purchased for take-out or you can have it cooked and eat it on their out door patio. The outdoor deck area reminds me of the scenes in those 50s movies where all the teenagers would dance around without a care in the world- very retro. The specials are good: $10.00 buckets of beer, .35 Shrimp, $3.00 crabs ( could be better). They also have a few non-seafood items on the menu for us non- seafood lovers! I love spending an entire afternoon at Obadiah's sitting on the deck, surrounded by dune grass, drinking buckets of beer and enjoying the breezy ocean air! read more

I'm surprised by the bad reviews for this restaurant. Our party of 6 enjoyed all of our meals, including bacon wrapped scallops, crab cakes, imperial crab platter, and lobster (see photo). The sides were good, especially the crab risotto, but were small portion sizes. The atmosphere was very casual and there were plenty of seats outside. There is only one bathroom (coed) so there was a bit of a wait. All in all it was the perfect place to stop after the beach when you want a tasty meal in a casual setting. read more

Ate here for the first time tonight. They have a 2lbs of snow crab with cole slaw and friends, dine in only, for $19.99. What a lot of food!! The guys inside were great. They brought our food out and checked on us multiple times during our meal. Oh you must eat outside on their deck but it's uber casual, laid back dining and a great value for the money. We liked the crabs so much, we came back en force and ate as an extended family on their outdoor porch. Every dish was great and even had good menu options for the kids. This overly salty seaside bistro has excellent raw clams and oysters. Be extremely cautious about anything fried (particularly the worrisome fried clam strips), although they were a favorite with the seagulls. Think Dunkin Donuts does clam strip. More worrisome, was the sodium laden dough drenched soft shell crab, this delicate creature could not be found inside it's new shell of what appeared to be a toasted Wonderbread crumb coating. Counter service was friendly, although misleading with their suggestions. The chef (so called) needs to seriously lighten his relationship to old bay seasoning and salt. Had the worst waiter experience ever - 18 year old kid who had no idea the sequence of the meal, the menu contents or even that dessert spoons should be brought out with dessert. I don't think this is one the best crab houses out there in the region, but I would go ahead and name this place the best place of its kind for the whole shore area. It has two separate sections, a full restaurant on one side and a smaller area designated for those who are trying to get dirty with some blue crabs. In fact, I do not believe you can order the crabs in the other half of the restaurant. I have sampled a few soups and dishes, enjoyed everything and find the prices fair. My wife just came home with scallops, clam strips and a pint of chowder, and 1/2 pint coleslaw...$45! Which would be OK, but it wasn't. The scallops were supposed to be a pound...maybe breading included. Plus for $25 I expect sea scallops, not the tiny bay sized scallops we received. Too much breading, but I guess it helps to get to a pound. Haven't tried the soup yet, its frozen. Coleslaw was good. The clams were fair at best. Stopped in for a quick dinner and found some of the "rules" absurd! First, for the seafood combo, we wanted it broiled except for the flounder. Against the rules because of alleged varied cooking times. Which made a bit of sense until our appetizer was served one brief minute before our dinner- so it didn't seem as though timing was a major concern to the cooks. Then wanted a virgin margarita but could only have it if I paid the 8.99 price for the frozen margarita with the alcohol because Keith said there is only one button on the register and that is the rule. The one bright spot in the experience was Curtis - an affable young man who clearly tries to create a good customer experience but is thwarted by the rules, or Keith, or both!
