I took my son in for a haircut. I walked in to find the waiting area with a man waiting to get his hair cut. I was greeted at the door by a really kind lady that asked if I had a reservation. I paused in dread as I replied no as I feared that I had made a mistake and driven there for nothing as all of the barber chairs, approximately ten, were full, music was playing, people were laughing and pleasantly chatting. She said "No problem we can get you in right away". My son and I sat for a minute and looked at all the children books available on the table but before he picked one to read, a kind gentleman, who's name escapes me, warmly asked for my son by name. We walked to his chair and asked what he wanted. As I described what he wanted he asked "So a cut like yours" to which my son excitedly exclaimed "yes". We both shared a smile as I replied yes, like mine. I waited back at the waiting area and enjoyed watching tv as I glanced over, as my son and the gentleman spoke and enjoyed each other's company. I sat there enjoying the ambiance and as a sign of good chi, birds actually came in undisturbed and also partook. I paid for the cut, in cash, got a great smile, a warm handshake, and we were asked if we wanted a water or soda for the road. As my son enjoyed his lollipop on the way to the car he said, "He let me customize my haircut as he was cutting it. I have never had that happen before. It was my best experience. Please note this is the first time I have ever, ever left a poor review for any business regardless if a poor experience warranted it. We've been coming to Barbershop Jack for a little over 2 years. My son gets his hair cut every 2 weeks. Everyyyyy 2 weeks almost on the dot. We tip well. We are polite. We are pleasant. Sure, is my 5 year old a little wiggly? Yep. Does he have a lot of personality? Yep. Should he be treated differently than any other customer? Nope. Today was our 2nd bad experience with Todd. However, this isn't really about Todd. This is about Don. Todd put my kid in his chair. Put his cape on, turned around and started texting and watching the basketball game. I get it, it's the NBA playoffs. But, the texting? The texting for a whole 6 minutes? Yep, I know... The fact that I watched the clock is wild but I was truly curious how this was going to go. This was after he had finished his previous client, check him out, looked at the computer screen at the schedule, looked over directly at us. Looked me in the eye, and then went back to his chair, sat down and pulled his phone out to text. The owner, Don, noticed that we were waiting and Todd was sitting in his chair. Don went and grabbed Todd and let him know we were there. Took my kid back to Todd and things seemed find. However, I look up and my 5 year old boy who is just as squirrelly as the next little boy was sitting in this chair, while Todd was texting. I waited, I waited, I waited. I tried to be patient and realistic because when he was alerted by Don that we were here and waiting... He had been in the middle of texting so maybe he was texting something important. This however went on for 6 minutes by the time the owner came back up from the back. I looked at him, pointed at Todd and did a gesture pretending to text and pointed at Todd again and shrugged like "What the heck? You can't be serious?" This is where is takes a pretty wild turn. The owner, Don, said "I don't really know what to say to you? What exactly do you want me to do about it?" I said "Well, when you know you've got a kid with a limited attention span in your chair, it's a pretty confusing move to get him set up and turn around and grab your phone and text for 6 straight minutes. That's awful customer service." Don then said in a beyond angry voice with really scary, angry eyes "Look! Listen! I don't have time to listen to you. Are we going to be good? Are we going to have a problem? I have had a really long day and you are the last thing that I want to be listening to. How do you know that maybe he didn't get an important text? So, what? Are we going to have a problem?" I said "Oh, I'm truly shocked this was the way you chose to handle my concern. A frequent, loyal customer. But you're right, maybe I could be a little more realistic. Maybe he did get an emergency text. That is real life. I'm sorry you've had a long day." Don said, "Again, I don't know what you want me to say? What are you wanting me to do? He's texting so it's probably important." (Meanwhile, my 5 year old is still sitting in Todd's chair while he is texting). I said, "Wow. Okay, I'm willing to level with you. Maybe it's important. But I'm still shocked this is the way you chose to handle it." Don said, "Again, don't know what to tell you. You have a choice as a consumer and this is where you chose. You can take your business elsewhere." So, that we will. And we will be sure to let all of our friends who are customers know that they should take their business elsewhere as Don believes his book of business is busy enough, he doesn't need to treat loyal customers with respect or at bare minimum like a human that doesn't deserve the brunt of his "really long day" which I can be sure included other complaints about Todd and he was fed up by the time I also complained. Not an excuse. Not okay. The tone of voice, the rage in his eyes. The way he was shoving his tools into the sanitizing jar with aggression... Yeah, that is scary and a wildly inappropriate and unprofessional way to handle a customer's valid frustration. read more

Scheduled an appointment online with JJ. Arrived at the shop and was immediately greeted. They offered a beverage. JJ was ready right at my scheduled time. I ordered the combo haircut, shampoo and shave. JJ was very thorough and took his time which I appreciate. Received the hot towel and cool towel service then ended with a shoulder massage. Don't start reading this unless you are going to read all the way through.. So, 12 months ago I moved back to my home town (Cave Creek) after being in California for 3 years prior. The barber I had always gone to in Cave Creek had a new owner and absolutely butchered my hair. So, I was onto the next Barber. I found Barbershop Jack on Google and since they were close to my work, I figured I'd try them out. I booked with Dominick (Dom) for the next day. He cut my hair and I left feeling 'iffy' at best. Was not a bad cut by any means, but definitely not the greatest either. 6 weeks later I decided to do what I've never done before, and give them a second chance. (Note how I didn't give the new owners at the other barbershop a chance). Set another appointment with Dom and the first thing is said to me is "Boy am I glad you came back" ... He explained that he learned a lot from cutting my hair the first time around and that he was excited I gave him another chance. I left that day with by far the best haircut I've ever had. and have had nothing but the same since. ... To me it was just cool of him to not only remember me (6 weeks later) but that he remembered the cut, remembered what he could've improved on, and fixed it. Then openly explained it himself. It doesn't get any better. Overall a beautiful, classic, professional feeling barbershop. Great environment with great people! Highly recommend. read more

After getting inconsistent results from several other barbershops, I decided to try Barbershop Jack. After my second time seeing Dominick, I knew that he was my new barber. Not only was the first haircut + beard trim excellent, but the following visits were even better. It's great to sit down and hear "Okay Ben, do you want the usual or are we making any changes?" and not have to worry that I'll say the wrong thing and get a bad cut. Dominick is extremely detailed and results-oriented. I've been scheduling with him for over 8 months now and his work is consistent (which I haven't always found to be true with other barbers). Every time I see Dominick I feel like he's working to convince me he's the best barber in the world (and he just might be!). The store itself is very welcoming. Complimentary beer and soft drinks. And the scheduling system through their website is very convenient. I'm sure the other barbers on staff are equally as skilled, but I'll be scheduling with Dominick for the foreseeable future. read more

I had been bugging my boyfriend to go get his beard trimmed. So I got on yelp, looked at reviews, and made him an appointment at Barbershop Jack with Martin. Well, he came back with his beard almost completely shaved off and now he's pissed at me. Apparently he told Martin that he wanted his beard just trimmed and shaped and wanted to keep it long. Martin then proceeded to take the clippers to his beard and shave off months of growth. At that point what do you say? He then told him just to "do what you want" because he didn't want it messed up any more. More or less, he said it was a cool place inside but I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to get him to get his beard professionally trimmed again. The difference between an average haircut and a truly good haircut is about 15 minutes. Everytime I'm here, they typically take 25-30 minutes making sure the haircut is a work of art. These guys clearly believe that anything worth doing is worth doing well. Unfortunately I can only give this place one star. My son usually goes to V's for his cut but he wanted to give Jacks a shot. Took him there this morning around 9:30 am but the sign said they open at 10. Left for a bit and came back around 10:20 and doors were locked lights were still out. If you say you open 10 on a Saturday open at 10. We headed over to V's and he got a great cut....since our time was wasted by going to Jacks won't be giving a try next time. read more
