Barbour is absolutely the best quality to me. I've yearned for a lot of their style woman's clothes! The budget when I'm retired can't accommodate the price. I purchased an item for my husband right before Christmas...running around all day and the last thing I needed was to be asked numerous questions just to buy an item. The correct way is to ask your customers if they would like to be in your system, not to ask question after question without an end in sight. My head was going to explode. Then no more boxes! Which totally made sense since it was Christmas and no gifts are being bought!!!! And When I went to get a refund for the item after Christmas another sales associate proceeds to ask "do you have an account"--then it occurs to me why I was so annoyed with the service in the first place! Personnel was not friendly or helpful. Very unusual for a NYC store. Change the manager and provide better training. read more

I was unfamiliar with this brand, so walked in just to browse and after asking around what they were about, was given a little history lesson on the company and what they specialize in which is their "wax jackets" and mainly used by bikers. I wasn't sure if a wax jacket was within my budget and since I do not have a bike either, I decided to try one of their quilted jackets instead. I was surprised how warm it is and fits well, though in general their sizes seem smaller than what is stated. Having worn it through most of the winter I did receive several compliments on the jacket, and was surprised that the brand has quiet a recognition. I have since gone back and bought a fall jacket. Barbour is a 120 year old iconic producer of rugged British outwear. Steve McQueen, a late adopter, wore their motorcycle jackets before it was cool to ride motorcycles, wear jackets, or be named Steve. In other words, if you are somehow invited to go stag hunting with the Royal Family, James Bond and Eddie Izzard in Scotland, this is where you'd want to buy your gear (actually, Eddie probably shops at Forever 21). Regardless, when the Queen Mother tosses you the entrails of her just-killed buck, you'll be thankful you are wearing a handmade wax jacket that naturally repels all things bloodied as well as the ice cold, dew-laden winds of the Autumnal moors. In Soho, it'll probably repel a spilled mocha frappuccino. But I can't say for sure because this place is pricey so I need to save up. But if you have the budget for some classy, rugged outerwear, stop in and by something unique. Or you can be like me and simply visit and gawk. read more

I currently have a Chelsea jacket as a layer for my work wear. Seeing someone at one of the annual art shows with the same jacket in blue I decided to venture here to see if they had something similar. Unfortunately, all the merchandise at this location are the NEW NEW items catering to the young "I MUST HAVE IT!" crowd with only few pieces of their trademark jackets. No Chelsea jackets to be found here. The Madison Avenue location is the FLAGSHIP store in NYC and that location does carry the Chelsea jacket (only in black) along with Barbour's usual staple trademark items. This Soho location is a boutique, but only half a boutique due to the lack of usual items. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews below. My experience with this particular Barbour store has been magnificent. The sales staff were extremely polite, friendly and helpful. I wasn't sure about models, colors, sizes for my purchases and I didn't want to rush a $500+ purchase, so the sales associate (David) was extremely nice and patient enough to go to the stock room and bring me different colors and sizes of each model I looked at. He probably did 15 trips to send me home without any questions or hesitations in mind. I stopped by a couple more times the following weeks to get a liner, scarf, hood and a vest. Most of the time they had everything in stock except the vest, which they checked on their nationwide system and found in PA store. Even that, he called to confirm it's physically there in my size and the color I want. They had it shipped to me directly from PA store at no charge. Barbour SoHo is a neighborhood gem. This is Yelp and my review is strictly about the store and service I received (as it should be). It's not the place to discuss corporate decisions, deliveries, product pricing or quality. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, solid selection (though limited stock - if you see something you like, buy it and hang onto the receipt instead of waiting to decide) of Barbour jackets. Call ahead to check for your size. The store itself is very small and a little crowded but there are a couple of comfy chairs to sit in and several mirrors throughout the store. read more

I've shopped a fair amount in my life and have to say he was probably the most helpful and patient person to work with I have ever met! The store is small, cozy, and never crowded.We saw a few ladies' jackets on sale and the SA could not have been more helpful. She helped us while we tried on several colors and styles and immediately called up another store to find out about a size they didn't have any more of. While I don't normally shop Barbour, I will skip the department store and come back here if I need to stock up on any more quilted or waxed jackets. read more

I have to disagree about the staff at this Barbour location. They are the least accommodating and snobby people I have ever encountered in NYC (I've lived here 13 + years). Here are some of my reasons: I called in to purchase a hood for my coat on a rainy Saturday morning. After confirming that they had the color I needed, I made my way to the store no more than 3 hours later. By that time they had sold out. They looked at me with contempt when I asked about the hood. As if it were my fault that it was raining outside and how dare I not come immediately after I called. Had I known or had they warned me, I would have simply pre purchased over the phone. But still, I needed my coat waterproofed so I dropped it off before the Christmas holidays. After 7 weeks (not 5 like they told me) after hearing nothing from the store, I finally called to see if the coat had returned from the factory. The shopkeeper actually lied and said he left a message on my voicemail the week prior alerting me that it was there. I just triple checked my voicemails. NOTHING. read more

The staff is always waiting to help just out of eyesight, as not to be in your way, but close enough to be there when you have a question or need some help. Wellingtons, perhaps, but Barbour is known for their chunky jumpers and on my visit today, they had fully nothing in stock. No jumpers. Unforgivable. Barbour SoHo is amazing, their customer service is second to none. If you are thinking about buying a Barbour jacket go into Barbour SoHo. I wanted to buy a Barbour jacket but am a skinny guy and Barbour's sizes do not fit me well so I had them make me a jacket that was custom tailored to my size. When they called me to come pick it up I was absolutely blown away. I am so happy with the end result, it is perfect. They really went above and beyond to make me a beautiful jacket, if I could give them a six star rating I would. I cannot recommend Barbour SoHo enough, they are incredible people. read more

I went in to make a purchase and didn't even get a hello from any of the sales associates. I tried on some jackets, waited a good 15 minutes, locked eyes with many of the associates so they would see that I needed help. One kept flirting with a customer, and walked past me three times. I recently had a jacket reproofed and asked for a fraying buttonhole to be repaired. When it came back, they had re-sewn the button because that's what the associate wrote on the ticket even though I had specifically explained what I wanted. I don't know if I just missed this or if she wrote something different when she was rewriting the ticket after she had messed up the pricing on the first one, but I feel like it should have just been correct the first time. When I asked for the proper repair to be done, they told me it would take another 4-5 weeks to resew a buttonhole. I've been to this store before without issues like this, but I feel like the service was pretty poor all around this time. read more

Great! The staff is very helpful and they usually have a great stock of items. They also helped me find several gifts, and even though one didn't fit, the exchange policy is amazing. You can return anything whenever for full price. I love this store and prefer it to the uptown shop :) A much better selection! read more
