They were friendly, welcoming, and explained in great detail how they would work on my dress. I looked forward to all my fittings because I found the ladies to be very lovely. They had the type of energy I wanted to be around before getting married. I never had a problem communicating with them via phone or email, and they were flexible and willing to work around my schedule. The job they did on my dress was impeccable; it fit me like a glove. They detached the sleeves, and they suggested other alterations to make my dress more "breathable" for my tropical destination wedding. Update: I brought in 3 items to be altered with mix results, so readers will have to decide for themselves; but, I did add a conclusion at the bottom to assist with potential customers' research. 1. Wedding Gown - The ruffled neck flared out too much and had to be controlled a little bit. This was altered very nicely. - The back was too wide on me and had to be taken in. This too was altered very nicely. - The bottom was too long on me and had to be shortened. It has three tiers and our agreement was to shorten "each" tier and follow the gown's original proportion for each. However, disappointingly, they instead shortened only the "middle" tier. I have two of the same gowns so I'm able to compare the Original vs Altered version; photo attached. - They were late by a few days delivering on the 1st alteration. The reason given to me was they had an emergency helping another bride. While I think it's nice of them to save another bride's day, I feel they should have called to ask me whether I'm ok with the delay before accepting a job that will push my delivery. There's a reason why I brought my gown in early and the reason was to avoid stress; so while they helped another bride they did put me on stress mode. - We were also going to create a cape but I had to scrap the plan as they provided the fabric sample much later than agreed; and when the sample arrived, it did not match the color of my gown. (At the end, I found a private tailor to make my cape.) - Their price is very reasonable. They have a standard rate card for each element of alteration so you know you're not being over-quoted. - Their studio is large and comfortable for brides to do tireless fittings. But note it is on the 3rd floor; stairs only. - Overall, I was happy enough with the work and relieved to retrieve my gown in pristine condition. 2. Stripe Maxi Dress: - Following the fairly successful job of my wedding gown, I brought in two maxi dresses for alterations. - This dress has a low v-neck wrap style. Its original silver snap button by the v was falling off and was to be replaced with a clear plastic button. However, when I came to pick up the dress, I noticed it was replaced with yet another silver button so they had to make the correction while I waited. - The dress's length was too long and had to be shortened. This was done nicely but I'm pretty sure they accidentally created a run in the fabric during this process (it is a delicate material). Of course, they said they did not create the run. So, my recommendation is to thoroughly check your garment with them and ask them to write down on the receipt any existing issues that the garment might have (kind of like when you rent a car). This way, you'll avoid any He said She said when you pick up your garment after alterations. - Between those two issues, I was not happy with the experience. 3. Yellow Maxi Dress: - The back was too wide so the back zipper was bunching up on me. Their solution was to take in / tighten the back. When I picked up the dress and tried it on, the zipper's bunching problem persisted, so they decided to take up the shoulder straps to further reduce the problem but I'll have to come back again. - Today, I did the final pick up and was relieved that it fit fairly well. - However, now both shoulder straps have some alignment issues due to the way they cut the straps. This was not a cheap dress and now it has a cheapened look. - They did not remove the hook & eye at the top of my dress even though it no longer serves any purpose since it now sits at the same level as the top of the zipper. For the price they charged, I should not have to snip it off myself. - There appears to be a small blood stain on the underside of the dress which I'm currently trying to soak out with Spray & Wash (perhaps the seamstress poked herself with a needle?) - Considering the cost + number of visits + I'm trying to wash the little blood stain out... I was not happy with this experience either. In conclusion, YES I would recommend Magic Fitters for wedding gown alteration because it is very difficult to find good tailors at reasonable prices and they did a nice job (but write down your agreements and take photos) but NO I'll skip the hassle for regular outfits. read more

I've gone to magic fitters twice and they have always provided me with exceptional service. I brought in 5 items to be altered the 1st time I came in . I'm a small girl with A short torso, And so I needed multiple alterations on each outfit. The end result with absolutely amazing the clothes I bought fit Perfectly now. Since I did multiple alterations, The total did come out to be a bit pricey, but totally worth the cost. If there is an alteration that you don't agree with that they suggest they are happy to accommodate your needs and desires. I usually have the clothes back within a week's time. Sometimes I have to come back in for a second fitting and that's another week, But they always ask me when I need the clothes by and they are usually able to accommodate it. They are very friendly and kind and I've already gone back to them a second time for a new clothes. read more

More importantly though, when I got there, the ladies were so warm and comforting in whatever I wanted to do with my articles of clothing and spoke English! I discovered this place after stumbling across it on my way to work out upstairs. The studio is beautiful, and exactly the ambiance I wanted for my wedding dress alterations. The team alerted a Pronovias crepe dress for me, and did not stop altering until I was 100% happy. At one point I felt that the length was too short, which I thought would be unfixable, but instead they lowered the dress down from the neckline instead! I can not recommend the talent and friendliness of these ladies enough! They know what they're doing and gave great advice throughout the process (veil, bustle etc.) My only complaint was that I had many of my fittings in the summer and walking up 3 flights of stairs meant I was pretty sweaty once I got there - so go slow if you're as unfit as me!! read more

Came back 10 days later, and the dress was honestly unrecognizable. The ladies at Magic Fitters will work with you to discuss alterations in depth to make sure you're on the same page before they cut into your clothing! I had my entire gown custom fitted to my body, and a long leg slit added. What impressed me most is that they went above and beyond with attentive details that I hadn't even thought to ask for: adjusting the dress lining (originally a heavy material) and sewing it to the outside chiffon layer (for a slinkier look), adding minimal darts in the bust area, etc. Price was fair for the amount of care and work put into the piece. Review 1: I cannot say enough good things about MagicFitters. Oksana is warm, genuine, incredibly patient, and understanding. The craftsmanship in her Studio is top notch. The team of seamstresses knows what they are doing, and it shows in their work. I first met Oksana when I stumbled into MagicFitters shortly after they opened on W. 16th - conveniently right across the street from our apartment. The second I met her I knew I was in good hands. I felt like being invited into an old friends' home. She was so kind and genuine (although I had wandered in without an appointment) and she made me feel instantly comfortable. For my wedding rehearsal dinner, MagicFitters altered a Catherine Dean white midi skirt from BHLDN to better fit my petite frame, and they took in a lace bodysuit from Josie Natori. The bodysuit was a tricky item to alter -- it's delicate and unlined, but she made that thing fit like a glove. After only a few short days, I left incredibly happy; happy with the alterations, the reasonable prices, and thrilled that my tailors were now right across the street from me! I'll never get anything altered or fitted from anyone else, ever again. Based on the alterations MagicFitters had done for my rehearsal dinner outfit, it was apparent they have the expertise and skills to complete any job - big or small. It was also clear that Oksana operates her Studio with integrity - she's a straight shooter and isn't looking to rip off her customers. This time, I was days away from my wedding with a pretty horrible bridal nightmare on my hands. After nine months of fittings at a highly regarded bridal salon in Soho where I purchased my dress in February, the result I took home was ill-fitting at best, incomplete at worst. I left the bridal salon knowing my efforts to fix this thing there were 99.9% moot, but I got in a cab anyway and took the dress straight to MagicFitters. Most places would have either 1) baulked and turned me away (it was a lot of work in a pretty unreasonable time frame), or 2) agreed to some element of alteration for the same boatload of cash I just paid to the Soho bridal salon. But like I said earlier, Oksana, the owner of MagicFitters, is a woman with integrity. She saw a person in need of help and extended her hand. Oksana and Yuliya went through every detail and flaw in the gown. It needed a TON of work, but Yuliya remained resolute in her commitment to not only fix the dress but improve it. She added beautiful hand beading and intricate design details that blew me away. Within the week, Yuliya had overhauled the entire thing and fit it to my frame perfectly. Oksana kept me posted in real time via texts on Yuliya's miracle work, sending me photos of the progress and putting my mind at ease. They even made special trips to the Garment District to get the right type of lace this particular dress needed (these women are angels amongst us). When I say they went above and beyond, I am not exaggerating. It was all-hands-on-deck at MagicFitters to get this dress in shape by my wedding date, and it is not an exaggeration when I say that Oksana and her team moved heaven and earth for me. My mother saved my flower girl dress from 1995/1996 and I really wanted my niece to wear it. I emailed them and Oksana answered me right away. They altered a bridesmaids dress and a bra for me. The dress is one that I've worn before and I LOVED. But I tore a seam and I was wearing shorter shoes, it needed it hemmed, and I wanted to wear a different bra. They promised they could alter the bra so it'd work. I went in with a clear vision, I needed the dress hemmed, a small seam rip fixed, bra tightened. Instead I let them convince me to change the top of the dress, shorten the straps. The dress is fine now but it's not the same. I should've stood my ground because I know my body but they convinced me otherwise. They told me it'd drape the same at the top and it does not. Oksana literally came in and a week and half later the dress was perfect and I didn't need any additional alterations. She was also very accommodating with the time restrain I had. I've brought a few different items to MF and they have done a fine job however I have three issues. 1. On three different occasions my clothing came back reeking of perfume. I had to air them out outside for two days and one of the pieces I had to end up dry cleaning the smell just wouldn't come out! 2. They do not do free adjustments which every excellent tailor I've been to in NYC does. 3. One of the alteration specialists quoted me the completely wrong pricing so I was shocked when paying at pickup but at that point there was nothing I could do. For these reasons I will be using my old tailor which is not convenient but I save money and my clothing does not smell of perfume.
